Author's Note: Before anyone says anything, I am fully aware just how much the song sucks. Seriously. But One: I can't find the original version, and Two, I don't feel like redoing it again. So....
The crowd roared, chanting for more, as the five members of Dir en Grey reluctantly made their way off the stage. Both Toshiya and Die paused long enough to toss guitar pics unto the eager hands of the screaming f'ans surrounding the massive stage. Kaoru wondered, for a moment, if all those random objects rockstars so loved to toss into the crowds, actually ever made it home, or if the nightly cleaning crews ownde the largest concert memorabilia collections.
They all eventually made it backstage, drenched in sweat, hearts pumpming a mile a miute but all having enjoyed every minute of their time out there. Kyo found a couple of towels and tossed one to their leader, who accepted it gratefully, whiping his red, wet face. "Any idea whos up next?" he asked.
"I think I heard some of the stage crew calling for Miyavi-san," the shorter man said. "They were talking about him wanting to play a new song, something to calm the fans down a little."
"Yes, a brand new song," came a voice from right behind them. The tall man, now dressed in a black and white checkered tank top and paint splattered jeans, stepped around the two men blovking the runway to the stage and turned around. "So new, in fact, the inspiration came to me only a few hours ago." He turned his back to them and started towards the stage, black acoustic slung across his back. "I hope you enjoy it."
They stood there, listening to the crowds go wild as the easy-going performer whooped and hollared along with them.
"It doesn't sound like he's calming them down any." Kyo snorted. "That man is the most excitable, hyper-spastic, childish artist I've ever-" his voice trailed off as he realized that his companion has suddenly disapeared. "Kaoru?" He spotted the blonde guitarist speaking with a passing crew member a few feet away.
"- see the stage without the crowd seeing me?"
"Yeah, we've got a couple of VIP boxes not rented out yet." the technician pointed past them to a hallway. "Go all the way down to the last door on the left; thats the elevator. Ride it to the top and you'll step right into one of the VIP suites. It's close to the stage, but high up, so most of the crowd won't even notice that that anyone's there."
"Arigatou!" Kaoru called and spun on his heels toward his new destination.
"Oi, Kaoru, where are you going?" Kyo ran to catch up with the slightly taller man as he entered the elevator and pushed a button. He punched the guitarist's arm in frustration. "Hey, are you going to tell me what's going on, or what?"
"I just..." he paused. "I'd like to hear his new song, thats all."
Kyo's eyes narrowed. "We could have heard it just fine from where we were."
The elevator door opened and the two men stepped into the VIP room. The crewman had been right. As far as they could tell, no one but whoever was onstage could see them, quite clearly actually, because of the large windows facing the stage. But anyone else would either be too far away or too far below them to even tell anyone was inside the room. They walked up to the clear windows and peered down at hte stage 30 feet below. Kaoru reached for the speaker hanging on a pole and they could hear everything utside their plexi-glass walls. Miyavi sat on a stool, off to their right a bit, in the middle of the stage, idly strumming his guitar in a lazt, soothing manner as he addressed the now quiet crowd.
"I orginally had a very different song picked out to play for you guys tonight." he said. "But insperation is a fickle, dangerous thing, something you cannot ignore, and as soon as I began to write this song only a few short hours ago, I knew it was perfect for tonight. Perfect to set the mood." he pulled the microphone closer to his face and began to tap his foot softly, slowly. "So, to all of those who will hear this new song, I call it 'Strawberry'." He closed his eyes, fingers beginning to dance across his guitar.
I see you standing in the corner, lost, alone?
Vulnerable in this treacherous world.
You put on a brave face, always the picture of calm,
But is it only I that sees through that mask?
Kaoru stepped closer, his face just inches from the glass. One hand snaked to the speaker box and turned the volume up higher.
My heart skips a beat when your eyes meet mine.
Where have you been all my life?
Hair like gold-laced fire, wild strands flaming your face
Strong, passionate, my heart melts inside
Your eyes, so dark, so old, how many lives have you lived?
Come to me, a plump strawberry ripe for the picking,
Are you ready for me?
Allow me to be part of your life.
Miyavi's head tilted this way and that, finally settling on a point above him, slightly to his right. A smile crept onto his face. Kyo followed his gaze and could have sworn it ended at them. Even more perplexing, it seemed as if a trace of a blush could be seen on his neighbors face, even unde all the heavy stage make--up he still more.
You are like a strawberry, mine all alone,
Sweet, kind, innocent of so many things
I delight in the wonder filling your eyes
Give me just one chance to make everything better.
You wade through a sea of thorns
I can see the scars on your well worn soul.
This hold you have on my heart, my mind,
I think it scares me to my very bones.
But I would have it no other way.
Let me take you away, my little strawberry,
Come to me, beautiful.
Will you let me show you the way?
