“Yeah, he’ll be here” Chris smirked receiving his response.
“How do you even know he’s with Claire?” Mike inquired. “He could be with his girlfriend you know”
“Do you want to bet on it?” he asked simply
“No, I’m just saying…”
“Let’s bet on it” Chris smiled.
“Fine, 5 bucks.”
“20”
“Fuck you. No.”
“You’re a multi-platinum artist and you cant afford to bet 20 dollars?”
“Every penny counts” Mike stated as-a- matter-of-factly.
“Fine, 10.”
“Deal”
Before Mike could fully take it out, Chris quickly filched it away.
“I win”
“What?!”
“I...Win...”
“How do you know?”
“For 1, Marissa is out of town, so he cant possibly be with her, and I know he’s with Claire because he told me he was heading over there when I saw him this morning.”
“You cheating bastard, I want my money back”
“Sorry, every dollar counts” with that he put the money in his pocket and walked over to his turn tables.

Placing himself back beside her, Brandon carefully observed as each time she exhaled how a few strands of her chocolate brown hair would flutter in the air, then collapse back onto her face.
Soon he took it upon himself to brush it out of the way when noticing her wrinkle her nose in annoyance.
A small chuckle escaped his throat at how comical and cute she looked at the same time.
Claire had always been a fascination to him, he had never met anyone quite like her. So innocent yet sardonic, eccentric yet serene, feminine but could easily fit in with the opposite sex, and my god, was she stunning.
Claire had always been around from the beginning. She lived a couple blocks away from him, but had only met him after Chris began hanging out with him and some other friends during highschool. They’re mother had always made her tag along with Chris to make sure he wasn’t doing anything he shouldn’t have been and getting into the ‘wrong crowd’ .
It pretty much came down to, No Claire-No Chris. At first he couldn’t stand the idea, but after realizing the benefits of her being there which included a longer curfew, Chris didn’t mind it so much. They actually got along pretty well. Although Claire younger than him she wasn’t your average annoying little sister. Profoundly intelligent, Yes. But far from annoying-at least when she wanted to be.
Brandon discovered this throughout many of their conversations that lasted for hours on end. He didn’t fully understand why, but he could always say anything that was on his mind to her compared to the rest of his friends and knew that she would accept it, and sometimes even correlate. They simply shared a bond.
“Claire” he softly whispered.
She sighed at first, ignoring his call.
“I’m leaving, okay? I’ve got to catch up with the rest of the guys for a practice”
Her eyes opened slightly. “Hmm?”
“Go back to sleep, I just wanted to let you know, I’m going to leave. But we’re all going out to get some dinner later, so meet up with us then”
“K, gimme a hug” she mumbled.
He reached over doing just that, before he let go of her he was cut off by a male voice calling out from the hall.
“Honey, I’m home!”
Brandon furrowed his eyes brows in uncertainty, while Claire dozily asked “I thought I just heard Michael”
“Yeah, me too”
“Maybe, that’s because Michael’s home” He stood at they’re bedroom entrance.
Brandon sat up, now standing onto his feet.
Claire raised herself up, rubbing her eyes.
“Hi” she smiled “I thought you were coming home in two days?”
“I decided to surprise you” his expression looked the least bit impressed.
“Well I am surprised” she stood up smiling, trying to put a smile on his now wary face.
“Hey man” Brandon nodded
“Hey” Michael nodded back plainly, he knew Claire and Brandon were very close but that didn’t mean he had to like it.
“Alright, Claire I’m out. Later?”
“Yep, laterz”
“Bye man” Brandon walked past him as Claire proceeded to give her boyfriend a hug.
“I missed you” she smiled giving him a quick kiss.
“I missed you too.” he gave her a somewhat enforced smile.

Making his way down to his car, Brandon’s phone went off in his pocket.
“Chris, if it’s you again…”
To his surprise it was just the opposite.
“Hey” he answered, a smile present in his voice.
“Hi sweetheart, I called you’re place this morning but no one answered”
“Yeah, I just left Claire’s loft”
“Oh. You weren’t cheating on me were you?’ she laughed.
He ignored the comment, recently Marissa had been making more than enough comments about Brandon’s relationship with Claire.
She made it come off as joking, but there were only so many times he could laugh in response, now it was just becoming…well unbecoming.
“So, what are you doing?” he questioned.
“I just finished doing a shoot. Now I’m just getting all of this make-up off of my face. I miss you.” she said unexpectedly.
“Well, I miss you too. you'll be visiting me on tour, that isn’t too far from now”
“Seems like forever.”
“Well we’ve been a apart longer, so I’m sure you can hold out, and if not that’s what my phone is for.”
“I know. Tell me you love me.”
“Uh…I Love you?”
It wasn’t a matter of whether he meant it or not because he most certainly did. Marissa had been his girlfriend for over a year now. He met her through a mutual friend and they hit it off from there.
“Not like that, like you love me-love me”
“What? Mar, come on.” he chuckled not sure if she was being serious.
“I’m serious”
That answered his question.
“Fine. I…Love You” he said in an overly embellish tone.
“Good, I love you too, now I’ll call you later when I get back to my hotel. Bye!”
She hung up.
Shaking his head, he exhaled strongly.
“That girl…”

After playing for a while and going over some tracks, the boys finally called it wrap for the evening, and decided to get something to eat at the nearest Hard Rock Café.
Retrieving Claire’s number from speed dial, he waiting for her to pick up.
After the first 4 rings it went directly to her answering machine. So he tried to house phone in which Michael picked up.
“Yeah?”
“Hey man, is Claire around?”
“She left a bit earlier to run a few errands then meet up with you guys? Try her cell?”
“I did, she didn’t pick up”
“Well I don’t know what to tell you accept she said she’d be coming by the studio to head out with you guys.”
“Alright, later” Brandon was well aware that Michael was only civil with him because of his girlfriend.
But really, he didn’t care. He was friends with Claire, not Michael, so his opinion really did not matter to Brandon.
*
Back at her place, she sat on the edge of they’re bed as Michael hung up the phone.
“Well they’re leaving now, so I guess you should head over”
She nodded her head without so much as a word.
“Have a good time sweetie, and remember our little talk. I’ll wait up for you”
“Mhm” She muttered just above a whisper.
*
“Did you get a hold of Cee?” Chris asked.
“No, I’m calling again though”
“Tell her to hurry her ass up” Ben
commented “I’m hungry”
“Shh” Brandon ordered when he heard silence on the other line. “C?”
She didn’t answer so he asked
again
“Claire?”
“I’m here, I’m here” The first time she said it was as though she had to clear her voice.
“We’re heading over to the Rock Café, Michael said you were running some errands first?”
“Yeah” she softly responded.
“Are you tired or something?”
“No, I’m fine” she tried to sound more upbeat. “Okay, I’m just checking out a book from the library. I’ll be there in 10 minutes, K? and tell Ben I said to ‘eat dirt’ if he’s hungry .”
“Will do” He hung up passing the message along.

Everyone was seated, and looking over they’re menu.
Everyone but Claire.
“What’s taking her long.” Chris said to no one in particular.
“Dude, she’s 24 now. She can hold her own.” Mike chimed in.
Brandon found himself slightly anxious as well, wondering where Claire was, but didn’t overly think anything of it.
“Traffic.” he mumbled to the rest, still looking over the list of options.
Ben couldn’t help but ask “Can we start ordering now, I’m really hungry”
“No one’s stopping you” Jose told
him. “We’re still looking”
Moments later, Jose spoke up again “Isnt that her over there?” he pointed to a female wearing a pair of hip hugger jeans and an oversized black hoodie covering her head.
Although they couldn’t see her face, Brandon was sure it was her before they all could turn to see. He could tell her hair was pulled to the side by the way the curly tresses prodded through one side of the hood masking her face.
“Yep, that’s her” Chris commented “Claire! Over here!” he called.
“How does she do that? Ben said to no one in partiular “She could be wearing a paper bag and still look fucking hot”
Chris rolled his eyes ignoring him while Brandon remained examining her walk over.
She hadn’t so much of even looked up when her brother called her over. Instead she ambled over with her head down.
She slid into the booth beside her brother, sitting directly in front of Brandon.
“What took you so long?” Chris placed an arm around her shoulder.
“Traffic”
“Yeah. Brandon thought so.” he answered back.
Strangely enough she still wouldn’t look up-at anyone.
“Claire” Brandon precariously said.
“Brandy” she plainly mimicked
“What’s up?” there was an aura at the booth that told him something wasn’t right.
She sighed “Not much from when I saw you this morning-still hittin' them books”
“Look at me?”
The rest of the guys continued to chat among themselves.
“Brandy, I know you’re infatuated with me but I’m a taken woman” she joked
“OoOo” Mike overheard.
He didn’t answer, instead he put his hand forward, attempting to tilt her chin.
She jerked her head away.
“Don’t.”
Little did she realize, the quick movement she made caused her hoodie to shift to the top of her head, revealing her face.
A very bruised face at that.
