CHAPTER 3

Several months passed and Evelyn and Mikey were closer than ever. Gerard’s bullying was becoming worse but Mikey had learnt how to evade him. New Year’s eve was just around the corner and, surprisingly, Gerard and Frank hadn’t organized a party of any kind. This came in handy to Mikey and Eve as they had no other place to go. They had been planning their own private celebration for days when Gerard told Mikey that he was going to be away for the end of the year. Mikey had it all planned: first they would share a romantic dinner and then they would enjoy watching the fireworks through the window cuddling in the sofa.
The day before the big night, Frank and Lauren decided to stay the night at the Way’s house. Mikey phoned Evelyn telling her it would be best not to enrage them. Evelyn agreed, knowing that they would be together soon. Mikey locked himself in his room oblivious to what was happening in the rest of the house. He ate some chicken wings he had been able to take from the fridge and went to sleep.
He was woken by screams. Mikey sat up on his bed, trying to focus his ears on the noise. Had he been dreaming? How long had he been asleep? A woman’s scream again. No, it wasn’t a dream. Screams were coming from somewhere inside the house. He grabbed her glasses from the night stand and made his way to the door. He opened it slowly and listened intently. The screams were softer now, but he was sure they were coming from Gerard’s room. Mikey doubted whether to go. Most probably it was nothing to worry about. But what if it was something serious? His heart was pounding loudly on his chest. He had to go and see what was happening.
The door to Gerard’s bedroom was ajar and Mieky saw a dim light coming out, flickering. He pressed his face to the side of the door and peered inside. The room was full of candles, surrounding a big bed. On it Frank sat holding Lauren, who was naked. Gerard was holding her legs and thrusting himself inside of her. The woman was crying now in pleasure as Frank caressed her breasts rhytmically with the other thrusts. Gerard’s orgasm hit him and he screamed before collapsing over her body. Now it was Frank’s turn to have her. Lauren turned around and placed herself on top of Frank. She started moving up and down while Gerard kissed and bit her neck, drawing moans of pleasure from her.
Mikey stared open-mouthed at the scene in front of him. He saw them change places, saw them make love to Lauren over and over again. He didn’t know why he was still there, watching. He was in a starnge trance, but he was taken from it when he saw the dagger. Gerard was playing with it, pressing the tip slowly on Lauren’s skin. What happened next stroke Mikey so much that he needed some time to take in what had happened. Gerard had grown sharp fangs and was drinking from Lauren, taking her life away from her with every drop he sipped. Frank was mesmerized by the scene, his fangs out, ready to strike as Gerard drew away. After both of them drank from her, they sat back on the bed, watching her life leaving her. She stirred violently and then laid still. Dead. Gerard and Frank were still savouring the blood dripping from their fangs when Lauren sat up drawing air to her lungs desperately. Her eyes glowed stragely in the dim lightning. They were lifeless, but yet they were bright.
Her eyes went from Frank to Gerard. A wicked smile formed on her lips, revealing fangs that fitted perfectly over her bottom lip. Mikey was horror-struck. He tried to get away from there but knocked over a lamp that was by the door. The eyes of the three vampires found him instantly. Their eyes glittering in the darkness approaching him was his last memory before everything turned black.
