A/N: I suppose I am eventually getting there- LOL. Row_Reiley, thanks for the reviews. :P
In early evening, an announcement went over the P.A. “Attention passengers, we will be landing at Las Vegas International in twenty minutes. The captain has turned on the fasten seatbelt sign. Make sure your seatbelts are fastened and that seats are in the upright position with all tray tables put away.” Catrianna's eyes fluttered open drowsily as she sat up, in a moderately foggy daze. In order to put one of her recent pain episodes at bay, she had taken some medication that caused her to go into deep sleeps. Fortunately, they were about to land, and all thoughts of being tired were cast aside. Soon, the plane began to make its descent, and they eventually landed. Once Cat stepped out of the terminal, she rolled her eyes up to the ceiling in thanks. “Land, hallelujah.”
A voice behind her had caused her to jump out of her skin. “Are you that glad to be on land?” She whirled around, and there, she found Ryan standing at the end of the terminal. She smiled and embraced her friend. “Ryan! How the bloody hell did you get past security to be up here?” Ryan shook his head, smiling a sneaky smile. “I have my ways, that's all I'm going to say.” When the two had reached the end of the terminal, getting to baggage claim, a petite blond waited, drumming perfectly polished fingernails, looking utterly bored. Though, a smile brightened as she spotted Ryan. She was immediately at his side and had brushed her lips over his own. Ryan stiffened and blushed a bit at the public display of affection. “Amber, not here,” he muttered, looking around suspiciously. The press had been trying to get a picture with him and her for quite some time. Though, Ryan wasn't one much for tabloid articles.
The girl named Amber rolled her eyes. “Ryan, you need to stop being shy and live a little on the wild side. I mean, have some fun and loosen up.” Ryan rubbed the back of his neck as he adverted his gaze for a moment before the blond took notice of Catrianna. “Oh, you must be Catrianna. Ryan's told me so much about you. Funny, he didn't mention that you were so pretty. I guess it slipped his mind.” Catrianna swallowed the lump in her throat. So, this had been the girl that he had started to date recently. Being a good friend, Catrianna stood aside and congratulated him. Though, part of her wished to melt into a puddle now, so to not feel awkward. Was she foolish to say that perhaps a crush had developed throughout the months? Instead, she flashed a tiny smile. “And you must be Amber. Funny, Ryan didn't mention that you were so beautiful either.” Sure, this was a bold move for Cat to make, but she wasn't the type to ignore a snipe attack. Amber raised an eyebrow. “And you have such a cute little British accent to boot!” Ryan coughed to disrupt this moment between the girls. “Okay, I think we should go and get Cat's bags by now.”
Cat nodded in agreement. “Right, I think it's over there.” She made her way to claim her own bag, and Ryan went to follow, but Amber stopped him. “Look Ry, I love you to pieces. This is why I'm being honest. I was never comfortable with you paying her way over here like that. Please understand my position here.” Ryan shook his head in disbelief. “You make it sound like she's taking advantage of me.” Amber cracked a flirtatious smile. “You are a smart one Ry. Look, you're rich and you're famous. Any average girl would jump at a chance with you. You just have to spend time with the right company.” Ryan stared coldly at Amber. What the hell had gotten into her. She was generally so bubbly and energetic and friendly. Now, she was sort of acting like a vindictive bitch. “She's from upper-crust British society if that says anything. Also, she could have paid her way here. I just felt like giving a friend a gift. There's no crime in that.” Amber shrugged indifferently. “No, no crime whatsoever.” With this, Ryan turned towards Cat who had been lugging her bag towards them. “Let me get that.” Cat smiled gratefully at Ryan, handing him her heavier suitcase as she maintained her small carry-on. “Thanks. It's good to have some sort of muscle to help me with my bag.” The two friends walked on chattering as Amber silently followed, positively seething. What the hell was the big idea of Ryan and this girl. This was not going to work at all.
When they got to Ryan's Mercedes, Amber immediately took the front seat, giving Ryan a kiss on the lips as he got in himself. Cat stayed silent, and had gotten into the back seat. The entire trip, Amber had managed to talk about how she and Ryan had enjoyed this one weekend in Malibu. Catrianna had managed to drown her out as she stared at Las Vegas all around her. What wasn't known was that Ryan, too, had decided to drown the girl out. Part of him was irritated at how she had acted. She knew he didn't like PDA all that much. Then there was the way she spoke to Cat.... They pulled into Port of Subs to get sandwiches. Amber had gotten her typical six-inch grilled chicken sub. Ryan and Cat had surprised one another when they had gotten the exact same thing. Each had ordered foot-long turkey sandwiches. Amber raised an eyebrow as she noticed Cat's tray with the foot-long sandwich. “Are you going to eat that entire thing?” Cat took a sip of her unsweetened tea as she nodded. “Yes. The plane food was rather horrid.” Her cheeks had tinged a fair shade of pink as she said this though. Not many girls could understand Cat's appetite. How the hell could a girl eat like that and stay so thin? This was yet another self-conscious aspect of Cat's. “Wow, you eat as much as this man here,” Amber commented airily as she put her arm around Ryan, who seemed to stiffen up slightly. “That's not a bad thing. At least we know she's healthy.” Ryan's comment had startled both girls. In Cat's case, it had been in shock. Had he just defended her against his girlfriend? In Amber's case, she had been positively fuming within. This behavior would not do, not at all.
When the were exiting the sub shop, Amber cut in suddenly. “Ry, I think I am pretty tired. I might call it an early night. Mind dropping me at home?” Ryan shrugged. “Sure.” This being said, he changed lanes to turn towards the direction of her home, which happened to be massive in size itself. Catrianna stared at the house, deciding to stay in the car while Ryan walked Amber to the door. Of course, that explained her attitude. She was another rich little bitch. Though, for the sake of her best friend, Cat remained silent about the matter.
Meanwhile...
Amber hugged Ryan. “Sorry about today. I guess I must be PMSing or something. Really, she seems nice.” The nice approach always seemed to be fool-proof. Apparently, Ryan bought it. “It's okay. Just, try to be nicer alright? Cat's different than most people. The words echoed in Amber's mind. 'Cat's different than most people.' She sighed and then hugged Ryan, kissing him. Ryan reluctantly returned the kiss. “Anyways, I need to go. I'll call you later.” With this, she walked into her home, closing the door behind her. Ryan, not quite sure how to feel, turned on a heel and then walked back to his car. “Cat, you can sit in front you know. She's gone.” Cat raised an eyebrow at this comment. “Funny Ryan, that almost sounds like you're coming onto me.” Perhaps the way she said it sounded cold, though she was still visibly shaken from the wrath of Amber. “She's not always like that. You two just need to get to know another.” Cat shrugged as she gazed at the lit Vegas Strip as they made it to the boys' Vegas penthouse. “I guess Ryan knows best in this case.” Ryan sighed as he opened the door for her. At the door, stood Rebecca Wentz to greet the two. Though, Cat felt as if she were going to burst into tears at this point and had run past her. “Hello Cat, nice to see you too,” she muttered as she peered over at Ryan. “Where's the Wicked Witch of the West?” Ryan narrowed his eyes. “Not now Becca, please.” Comprehension soon dawned on Becca as she realized Cat's peculiar behavior. “Smooth Ry, very smooth,” she muttered, voice dripping with sarcasm as she turned on a heel, making her way into the flat. Hearing something in the bathroom, she sighed, knowing she'd have to comfort the girl's wounds.
She bounded up the stairs to the bathroom and knocked, relieved that the boys were downstairs. “Cat? It's me, Becca. Just me.” Cat stared at the door for a moment, then she opened, revealing tear streaked cheeks. “It was horrid. She was horrid. I didn't do a bloody thing.” Becca made a clicking sound with her tongue but she slipped into the bathroom and locked the door so that both could have a bit of privacy. “Look, I can understand where you're coming from. I have never, nor will I ever, like that bimbo that Ryan has been parading around. She's trying to change him into something he's not. He's going to fall hard, you know?” Her commenting paused as Catrianna suddenly had choked back a sob. Realization dawned again. “Catrianna Sinclair! I knew it. You like him don't you?” Cat revealed her face, though eyes continued to fill with tears. “It doesn't make a difference how I feel Becca. He has Amber. I cannot barge in and take something like true love away from him. It's not in my nature to do so.”
“True love?” Becca scoffed, brushing a magenta-colored streak away from the crying girl's face. “True lust is more like it. She is like this damned piranha, always hungry for more of what she has. Look, not many believe me. Only Spencer believes me on the dislike of this girl, but I have never trusted her. People say that I have good intuition. If my intuition is right, this is not going to last much longer. And when it ends, sadly Ryan will come down very hard. It happened with Jac, and it will most certainly happen this time around. Oh Cat...” She embraced her friend until the crying subsided. After a while, Cat scoffed. “Look at me, I've made a mess of myself.” Becca rolled her eyes at this remark. “You're fine. Come, we ought to get you to the guest room. You and I are roomies for the week it seems.” Cat smiled faintly at the notion, and the two made way to the bedroom. When arriving there, Cat noticed that her suitcase had lay on a side of the queen-sized bed. Ryan must have taken the suitcase there. Cat shook her head, sitting on the bed. “I need to apologize to him.” Rebbecca scowled at the notion and then crossed her arms. “You will do no such thing. Stay here and rest. I am thinking you should be jet-lagged from today's trip.”
The British girl raised an eyebrow at her retreating friend, though collapsed on the bed, letting out an exasperated sigh. It had been quite the trip. Perhaps a shower would do her well. She decided to then take her toiletries with her to shower in the guest bathroom, as it was readily available. The moment the warm jet hit her tired muscles, she breathed out, knowing that there had been quite a lot of tension in her body at this point. She could only hope that the muscle relaxants she had been taking would work, as she wanted no embarrassing situations during the course of this trip.
Meanwhile...
Ryan had been laying on his bed, listening to his iPOD when Becca had come into the room. She reached over and thwapped him on the head. “You're an idiot Ryan Ross, you know that?” Ryan sighed, turning off his iPOD. “Look, Amber-” “I don't give a rat's ass about your damned blond bimbo. We're here to talk about Cat.” “I didn't do anything to Cat. I'm just letting her cool off from the stinging, that's all.”
Again, Becca thwapped him. “And you stood there and let it happen, right? For the love of God!! She flew from LONDON to see you, and the first impression she gets is your bimbo girlfriend being such a snooty bit-” “Damnit Becca, give it a rest!” Ryan bit his lower lip as he realized he had raised his voice, something he seldom did. “Becca, I'm sorry.” The other girl stared at him, unable to mask her disappointed expression. “She's changing you. I don't think I can stand this new you right now.” With this, Becca got up and then shut the door behind her, stifling the urge to cry out in frustration. Taking a few deep breaths, she returned to the room, only to find Cat gone. Where had she gone now?
Meanwhile...
Ryan stared glumly at his iPOD, not sure what to do at this point. Though in it all, he had realized something. He had let Amber run her down without putting that much of a fight. He must have looked to be such the bastard. Sighing, he got to his feet and made his way to the guest room. Though, as he was walking, he ran into Cat, who had been clad in nothing but a towel. “Cat! Um ah,” he shifted to the side. Right as he had done so, so had she. It almost looked as the two were dancing. “You move left, I move right,” she told him as she stepped to the right. Though, she could only stare at Ryan, clutching her towel around her. “Can I help you?” she asked suddenly as she realized that neither had moved. “Look Cat, I'm sorr-” “It's okay Ryan, really. Just give me a night. It's been a really rough day.” With this, she turned and stepped into the guest room, where she had found Becca. “Sorry, I had to take a shower. I'm thinking I'm about ready to crash by now.”
The other girl smiled half-heartedly, turning her head slightly away so that Cat could have some sort of privacy in changing into her PJs. “It's okay. Though, it's a bit too early for me to fall asleep now, think you can fall asleep without me?” Catrianna gave Becca a faint smile. “Believe me, I can.” True, the instant she had crawled into the bed, she had fallen fast asleep.
Becca sighed, as she covered Cat with a blanket. Poor girl seemed to have such a rough night. It so seemed that everyone was having their rough time tonight. She changed into her own PJs and then to the living room where she found Ryan sitting alone, playing some sad Spanish tune. She couldn't help but to watch silently until the music ended. When it did, she walked up to him. “Ry?”
Ryan had just finished playing the guitar, something that greatly helped him when he was troubled, when Becca had come to him. “Mmm?” The girl sat on the couch next to Ryan with a sad smile. “I'm sorry, maybe I was a little too harsh there.” Ryan raised an eyebrow with the faintest smile. “A little? I think I might still be bleeding.” He shook his head as he held a hand up. “I should be apologizing. Sorry, really I am..” He put an arm around her in that brotherly/sisterly manner. “So, are you still mad at me?” Becca remained silent, but then she reached over and tickled him on the sides of the ribs, making him nearly jump out of his skin. “No, not mad.” “Oh, now it's on,” he muttered, tickling her back. The two ended up in an all-out tickle battle before both were exhausted. Pretty soon, both said their good nights and headed to their own respectable bedrooms.
The next day... concert day! It was hectic from the instant that four different alarm clocks had rang. Cat opened an eye only to groan as she was still feeling jet-lagged. She shoved a pillow against her face. “Guys, please turn those off,” she muttered, tossing around. Becca had been an early riser that morning, which explained why she had been fully-clothed and sipping from her orange juice when she heard a scream from the guest room. Becca rushed to the guest room to find a very soaking and shivering Cat cornering both Spencer and Jon. “What did you boys do now?” Spencer blinked innocently. “It was his idea, ask him,” he stated as-a-matter-of-factly, pointing at Jon, who gave Becca an innocent smile. “She needed a wake-up call. I did her a favor.” “What!? A favor?? You bloody dumped ice water on me!!” Clearly, Cat wasn't in a pretty mood first thing in the morning. She looked as if she could tear him limb to limb, but she stalked out of the room. She came back with a pitcher of cold water, and had dumped it all over Jon. “There, we're even.” With this, she whistled to herself, going on with getting dressed. Becca giggled at the dripping Jon. “Shoo, get changed before you catch cold!” By now, Spencer had been doubled over in laughter. Jon narrowed his eyes at this, reaching for what was left of the jug of water. “Think that's funny huh?” He then proceeded to soak Spencer as well, causing him to stop laughing. Grumbling to himself, Spencer went to his room to get changed. Jon soon followed suit.
Meanwhile, Becca had gone down to find that Ryan and Brendon had been calmly eating. Brendon looked up from the magazine he had been reading. “So, what the hell was that about?” Becca laughed, snatching the magazine out of his hand to get a closer look at her brother in the magazine. Clearly, they hadn't gotten his good side. “Oh, Mama will love to frame this!” she stated, tearing the picture out, putting it in her purse for safe-keeping. Smiling ruefully, she had no need to answer. “They dumped cold water on me, nothing out of the ordinary.” A fully-dressed Cat had finally made it down to the kitchen where she reached into the cupboard, so to get a glass of juice. “Hello Ryan, Brendon.” Both looked back at her. “Hello,” Ryan had responded. “Ello,” Brendon had responded, putting in a fake Brit accent before smirking. Cat stuck her tongue out at him childishly though quickly went back to sipping from her juice. Soon enough, Jon and Spence had gone down. Next, the doorbell had rang. To Cat's, Becca's, and Spencer's horror, it had been Amber.
“Good morning!” she sang out cheerily, greeting each girl with a kiss on either cheek before greeting Ryan with a kiss on the lips. Ryan blinked at her as if she had been on some drug or something, though he said nothing of it. What he didn't know was that Amber was putting up quite the act so that there would be no more tension between her and Ryan. From there, they headed to the concert-hall, for the concert was that very day. Brendon and Spencer were dealing with family that had decided to see the hometown concert. Ryan and Jon were busy working with the technical things. This left Becca, Cat, and Amber together. Amber stared at the two coldly before tossing her perfect locks of hair. This was so not worth her time. She stalked across the changing room and flopped in a chair to read her VOGUE magazine. “Overly pompous bitch,” Becca muttered, causing Cat to giggle. The two of them made their own fun, trying to see how long it would take to see Amber tick. Then again, Amber was putting up an annoyingly good fight.
Soon, it was concert time. The crowd was wild with excitement, and all was well underway. Throughout the whole concert, Becca and Cat cheered and laughed merrily as Amber stood her status, keeping her composure as if this was something she saw day-to-day. After all, this was the life of a musician's girl was it not? Though, soon the concert ended, and all went their merry ways back to the penthouse, and thankfully, Amber went back to her home. “She's going back to the circle of hell that she came from, thank the heavens!” Becca had mouthed to Cat, who shook her head, unable to contain her laughter. True, this moment, and that week, would forever be in the memories of all.
A couple weeks later, it had been New Year's Eve. Catrianna had been back in England, and had been now forced to attend a New Year's Gala. She sighed, resigned at the monarchy of her mother, and went along with it. Though, thankfully in the midsts of the benefit, she had been able to slip away, so to call Ryan, who had been performing at Times Square that evening with his band mates. “Cheers! Send everyone my love!! Happy New Year!” she had said. She then called Becca, who could only gripe about the Wicked Bitch of the West (as they recently had decided to call her)'s presence at Times Square. “Trust me, it's disgusting...” The two chatted for a while, but then Cat was forced to rejoin the party with the rest of the stuck up high-society snobs.
The next day, Rebbecca Wentz woke up to go online to check on the current happenings. Right there, she saw a picture plastered of Ryan kissing Amber. That hussy had stolen the moment for a New Year's kiss, and the news had now leaked. Her first impulse was to call Cat. “Come on Cat, answer..” she silently pleaded. Fortunately, after about the fourth ring, a shaken-sounding Cat answered the phone. “She's all over the Internet! That snog! Oh Becca, I can't do this to myself anymore.” The girl's voice was at the brinks of cracking, and Becca could only sit and listen, feeling helpless. Though thankfully, she was able to calm her down to the point where it didn't seem like the British girl was likely to do anything rash.
A couple weeks later, Ryan stared at the computer screen in confusion. The instant that he had signed on, Cat had signed off. This had been happening since New Year's Eve. He had no earthly clue what had been going on here. Fortunately, there was Becca to make sense of things. “Becca, is something bothering Cat?” he asked suddenly, finally admitting that he had been suspecting something. Becca looked up from the book she had been reading. “Finally catching on are you?” she asked, her voice ever curt at this point. Ryan sighed as he rubbed his temples wearily. “Really, what the hell is the matter with you two?” Becca put down her book and rose an eyebrow at Ryan. “You have no idea do you?” Ryan stared ahead. “Get to the point Rebbecca.” At the sternness of his voice, Becca had probably lost her temper just a smidgen. “George Ryan Ross!!! You are such a fucking idiot you know that!?” Becca put a hand to her mouth as she had actually thrown in a curse there. He really had her annoyed though. How was typically intellectual Ryan being so insanely stupid? Ryan flinched at his full name and glared. “Really, that was uncalled for,” he stated, the edge of anger evident in his voice. “So, are you going to tell me or not?” Becca got up and then said three words that finally connected all the pieces together. “Cat loves you.”
A/N: And there we go- another chapter... goodness... don't worry, anger feelings are gone by next chapter's beginning. Hope you enjoy :)
