The girls were not happy. In fact each girl handled the situation differently. Jenni screamed, yelled how she wasn’t going to leave New York and locked herself in her room with her iPod blasting very loudly in her ears. First thing Alex did was cry, not wanting to leave her friends behind and the places she hung out in. Nikki just didn’t speak, shock wrapped around her and she just couldn’t get the words out of her mouth.
They were like that for the two weeks that followed and are still like that in the car ride to their new home in New Jersey. Bob drove the moving truck to the house, Nikki riding along with him cause she was always daddy’s little girl. Rach drove the car with Alex and Jenni in it, along with extra boxes and suitcases. Jenni occupied the front seat while Alex sulked in the back, slouched in her seat and light brown eyes scanning over the neighborhood they were driving in. Jenni’s iPod could be heard loud and clear, the music blasting from the headphones that Rach began to wonder if it were possible to be deaf from listening to music that loud.
She looked at the rear view mirror, watching as Alex looked out the window a sad expression clearly seen on her face. “Come on Alex, it isn’t that bad.”
Alex sighed, “I suppose not. I just… I grew up with Sarah and Lindsay.”
“I know, and you can still visit them or they can come visit. It’s not the end of the world,” Rach stated as she made a turn, the moving truck following them not too far behind. “Then there’s the phone, letters, internet – it’s honestly not that bad.”
“I know it’s just… going to be weird without them is all.”
“I know but you’ll love it here, you’ll get your own room and that means a lot more privacy than you had before,” Rach said with a smile, trying her best to at least lighten up one of her daughters. “You can hang up that one poster Nikki hated…”
“That’s right I can,” Alex said with a small smile and looked out the window of the somewhat perfect looking neighborhood.
Rach smiled to herself, feeling a little accomplished with her effort and parked the car in the driveway of their new home. She looked over at Jenni, yanking out the headphones from her ears and caused the raven-haired girl to yelp. “Mum!”
“Don’t you mum me, turn it off and take a look inside. Plus we need you to help move things in,” Rach said as she opened the door of the car and jumped out. Jenni rolled her eyes, stuffing the iPod into her bag and followed suit, Alex looking over the house as she stepped out of the car.
“Whoa,” was all Alex managed to say as she scanned over the house with her eyes. This was… big.
“It’s no big deal,” Jenni said as she shrugged her shoulders and swung her bag over her shoulder. She looked around, not going to admit that yes the house was big but it could be super small inside.
Rach sighed, giving for now and watched as the moving truck parked in front of the house. I smiled softly as her husband and youngest daughter jumped out, Nikki scanning over the house with her blue eyes and making no facial expression. It was hard getting a reaction from Nikki these days; she had turned her voice and emotions off since the news was told about moving.
Bob swung his arm around Nikki’s shoulder, bringing her close and walked towards the three other bodies occupying the driveway. “Well, what do you girls think?” Bob asked, looking over his three daughters.
“Looks big,” Alex replied meekly, looking over at her father.
“Could be crappy in on the inside,” Jenni retorted, making sure they knew that was not pleased with these new… circumstances.
“Looks ok,” Nikki said quietly, a little glimpse of hope sparking in her parents that the girls would come around and adjust to their new home.
“Come on, let’s take a look inside. You guys can pick out your rooms,” Rach said as she ushered her daughters into the house, watching as Bob walked back to the truck and opened the back to reveal all of their belongings.
Jenni walked in first not bothering to look around the living room or kitchen, but straight up the stairs to find the second biggest room and claim it for her own. Alex and Nikki stood together, the two looking around for a bit before they ran up the stairs to look for their own bedrooms. “Look our rooms are right across from one another,” Alex said to her little sister as Nikki looked around cautiously. “And Jenni’s is at the end of the hall. I bet mum and dad’s room are at the corner.”
“That doesn’t change anything,” Nikki mumbled and Alex sighed.
She placed her hands on the smaller girls shoulders and softly grinned. “It’s not that bad, sleeping alone. You won’t notice the dark when you’re asleep.”
“It’s not the same Alex and you know it,” Nikki squeaked looking back at her room, which a tad bigger than the room she shared with Alex back in Brooklyn. “I’ve never slept by myself before.”
“You’ll be fine, trust me.” Alex said as she patted Nikki’s shoulder and walked into her own room to explore.
Nikki frowned, walking into her room and looked around. Looked like a normal room, white bare walls and a window that gave her a view of the front. She walked over to the window, looking out of it and saw the huge moving truck, watching as Bob walked down the ramp with a box in his arms. Nikki tilted her head to the side, her eyes wandering over the window a little when she noticed something a little… off. The window in a area was slightly stained, scratched a little and it looked as though someone left mark on it. Nikki moved closer, her face inching closer to it to get a better look and noticed that there was instead a permanent mark on the window.
A permanent mark on glass?
Nikki scratched it slightly, the mark making a noise and it felt sand papery against the tip of her finger. Then she noticed the shape, how it was reached out into five slender lines and her own mind questioned that mark. Very slowly Nikki pressed her palm against the window, her fingers gently pressing against the mark and matching the slender lines perfectly. It was a hand!
“What are you doing?” A voice asked from behind, making Nikki squeak and look behind her.
Jenni raised a dark eyebrow at her younger sister as Nikki gulped and stood up straight. “There was something on the window,” she replied quietly and Jenni rolled her eyes.
“Stupid little sisters,” Jenni mumbled as she walked away from the room and down the flight of stairs to look for her own belongings.
Walking up the ramp of the moving truck Jenni specifically only looked for the boxes that she marked with her name, finding one she grabbed it and made haste to the ramp so she can leave the box in her room. While walking off she could hear a loud squeal, looking over Jenni spotted four bodies and watched with curiosity.
“You can’t do it silly boy!” The girl squeaked, her arms wrapped around an older boys neck and legs wrapped around his waist.
He growled loudly, twisting and turning his body to throw off the smaller girl off his back. “Bess! Get the fuck off of me!”
“Never!” She giggled, squealing as he turned his body violently to the right and failed to throw her off.
“Stop giggling Frank! Get your sister off of me!”
“I would but your new neighbors are enjoying this,” Frank said as he nodded his head in Jenni’s direction and the two wrestling buddies looked over at Jenni.
Jenni gripped the box, walking down the ramp and towards the house to leave the box in her room. She passed by her sisters and mother, who were dragging in the couch by their selves while Bob was bringing in as many boxes as he could.
“Ow! It’s on my foot! Mum! Lift! Lift!”
“Nikki! I didn’t say put it down now!” Rach yelped as she lifted the couch up and watched Alex move her foot from under it.
“Ow,” Alex winced as she hopped on her good foot and held the foot that was squashed under the couch.
“It slipped I swear!” Nikki said in her defense, Bob walking in with a box and setting it down in the corner of the room.
“What happened?” Bob asked, watching as Alex bounced around until she leaned against the wall and rubbed her now aching foot.
“Nikki let go of the couch a little too soon, landed on Alex’s foot.” Rach explained as Nikki pouted, giving the couch an evil glare. “Go and get some more boxes with your father.”
Bob nodded his head towards the door, Nikki following behind as they walked out of the house and towards the moving van. Four bodies now occupied the lawn; Bob and Nikki look at them with curious eyes.
“Hello?” Bob said as he approached them, Nikki standing by him and studying each figure one by one.
“Hi!” The girl squeaked. “Erm, we’re you’re neighbors! My name is Bess Iero and that little shrimp there is my brother Frank. We live a few houses down.”
Nikki looked over at Bob, watching as he nodded his head and looked over the two other boys. “And you are?”
“Gerard Way,” the older one said. “This is my brother Mikey, we live right across the street.”
“Dad I have all my stuff in my room, I just need my bed.” Jenni stated as she approached Bob and looked over the four other bodies.
“That’s the one!” Frank said as he pointed at Jenni, Bess smacking his hand and glaring over at him.
“No pointing!”
“You know them?” Bob asked as he looked at Jenni, who shook her head no. “Well, I’m Bob Bryar these are my daughters Jenni and Nico-”
“Nikki,” Nikki interjected before Bob could finish. “I’ll move more boxes in.”
Nikki jumped on the ramp, walking up it and grabbed the first box she laid her eyes on and was back in the house within minutes.
“I’ll let you tend for your friends while I get your bed in,” Bob said to Jenni as he walked up the ramp himself and started to grab random pieces of furniture.
“You were watching us,” Bess pointed out. “I’m Bess, the shithead I was messing with is Gerard.”
“This shithead is older than you!”
“By two years!” Bess piped, than looked back over at Jenni. “Jenni, right?”
“Yeah,” Jenni replied slowly as she looked over at Frank and Mikey, slowing raising an eyebrow and waited for them to introduce themselves.
“Frank!” Frank squeaked, looking behind her and over the house.
“Mikey,” Mikey mumbled kicking at the ground.
“Nice to meet you-”
“I was wondering, since you’ll like go to our school and stuff, that maybe you wanted to hang out with us? You can bring your sister and everything,” Bess said with a small smile.
“…Yeah, I’ll bring my sisters.”
“You mean, you have more than one?!”
“Frank, will you please shut the hell up.” Gerard snapped, glaring at the little boy who simply stuck his tongue out.
Jenni laughed softly, “Look I really have to finish moving things in and stuff. I’ll see you around later?”
“Yes, I live a few houses down but I’m usually at shitheads house.” Bess replied as Gerard rolled her eyes.
Jenni laughed again, maybe moving to Jersey isn’t too bad…

Dinner consisted of Ravioli from a can and bottles of cokes from the cooler that was kept in the car while moving everything in. Everyone sat on the floor, eating their dinner silently and enjoyed their first dinner together in their new home – sort of. The five bodies were tired, sore, and sweaty from the days events so sitting down and eating seemed a lot more pleasurable than it usually was.
“It’s not that bad,” Jenni spoke while stuffing a piece of pasta in her mouth. “The house… I like my room.”
“Me too,” Alex added in sipping her coke and Rach smiled softly.
“And you kiddo?” Bob asked, nudging Nikki slightly on the arm with his elbow.
She shrugged, “It’s ok-”
“She doesn’t like the idea of sleeping alone.”
“Alex! Shut up!”
“Hey,” Bob cooed as he threw his arm around Nikki’s shoulder and pulled her closer. “It’s not that bad sleeping alone, it’ll be weird the first few nights since you’re so used to sharing a room.”
“It’ll be fine,” Rach said with a smile and Nikki leaned her head onto Bob’s shoulder. “This a lot more different than Brooklyn.”
“I know, it’s so quiet.” Jenni said, finishing her dinner and set the plate on the floor.
“I know, but we’ll adjust.” Bob stated, rubbing Nikki’s arm who snuggled more into her father.
The family chit chatted away until it grew late, and they all rushed to bed. Since the beds weren’t assembled just yet, Alex let Nikki sleep in her room; the two mattresses set on the floor and near one another. The house grew quiet and slowly everyone drifted off to sleep.
But the house itself was still wide awake.
