Chapter Three- Bygones
He remembered as if it were yesterday. Even as he wandered the night unable to sleep from the memories that plagued him. He hated her, hated how his heart had been ripped out from his chest. His half demon eyes flared their usual red as he angrily plunged a fist into a nearby tree. Frank growled, realizing his own physical pain as his hand began to bleed. He cursed loudly and longed for sleep but knew it would never come.
“Wow, the economists would skin you alive if they ever saw that,” a familiar voice floated on the cold wind. “Frank.”
“Ella,” he hissed as he whirled around. HE closed in on her as she casually glided to him as if nothing had happened only months ago. “If you want your head attached, you’ll leave before I get angry.” And angry was an understatement.
She only smirked, a simple mockery in the moonlight. Her dark hair almost glowed in the small light they had but that familiar look of disregard haunted her features. “I don’t have time for our heart break, half breed. You were a doctor once. That’s all I care about right now. She was close to him now, her darkened wings outstretched this time.
“I remember a time when I would have called you noble. I don’t have time for your games.” He said as his reddened eyes narrowed, his bleeding hand flexing towards her neck. The demon in him longed for blood and the pain he could inflict easily. She was lucky he was even making an effort to hold himself back even at such an hour.
“Cut the shit, Frank. I’ve moved on and now I have a friend who I know is in danger. You want to kill her? You’re doing it right now.”
“Always the diva.” His nostrils were flaring as he moved his crusting hand through his own short, dark hair. The remaining blood stuck to his hair but he didn’t seem to care. Most of the time he didn’t. “What do you want? It’s always something.”
“My friend. She was shot and Bryar is with her. He came to me and she’s barely hanging on. They’re back at the apartment. Silver. The bitch shot her with silver and disappeared.”
“I’m surprised you care.” He shot back and quickly said, “I’ll help but only because of Bryar and Morana. It has nothing to do with you.”
“Good.” Ella said, poison in her voice. “We’re going and I don’t want to talk.”
“You never did.”

Poor little Ava. She had been released by the strange creature into the woods that she couldn’t survive without. He had never told her his name and had told her to promise that she would run away as far as she could. Strange. As if he were more than a prisoner there as she had been.
Now she was aching everywhere, cold and bruised even as she sat down by her favorite stream. She looked into the water and remembered when things were better before. When she knew where her friend was and they had been able to run in the woods before.
Ava found herself tired and remembered how late it was. She yawned and lay down by the stream, her little body seeming to melt into the ground. And then she began to dream.
She remembered when they found Aurora, smaller than she was even now. She had found her in a tree, hiding up in the leaves. She had thought her another nymph and was fascinated by her small wings.
“Hello? Who’s up there?” She asked as she peered through the branches up at the strange girl.
“Nobody.”
“Well, you can’t be nobody. I’m talking to you, aren’t I?” Ava asked almost becoming part of the tree as she glided to the top branch. “I’m Ava. And you would be?”
“Dangerous. Please, go away.”
Ava looked at the girl with the drooping blue wings and the worn in shirt and jeans. “Well, you don’t look very dangerous. You might even be my age.”
“I said go away. I only cause trouble,” she replied just as stubbornly as before. She glared and moved to another branch nearby and nearly tripped up on the way there. Frustrated, she huddled by the trunk of the tree and tried to ignore the nymph.
“you don’t look like you could cause anything at all.” Ava sighed, getting frustrated. “And what are you doing here if you’re trouble?”
“I’m running away.” She answered, a determined look on her face. “So no one gets killed because of me.”
Ava frowned as she was very unsure of this. Killed? She had heard a few incidents in the past day or so. A colony of fairies attacked near the woods by vampires. And here was an upset fairy saying that she had been the cause of it. Very strange indeed.
“I don’t think you’d get me in trouble just by talking to you.”
Aurora was confused by her persistence but shook her head just the same.
“Don’t be so sure.

“I hope you killed her. Should she survive the consequences for you would be… severe.” His eyes narrowed at the light haired creature before him. He was not in the best of moods, at least more so than usual.
“Oh, the wolf bitch should be on her way to judgment by now.” Jasmine smirked as a reassured glint flashed in brown eyes. “One less enemy for you to be worrying yourself over.” She slinked nearer to him, running a freshly manicured hand up his bare, muscular arm.
His deep, shadowed black eyes glared at her as he ignored her attempts of flirting. Jared was not in the mood but then again he never was anymore. He yawned though not at all tired, showing his fangs and severe cheek bones. “I had hoped you would find that stupid brat and my missing servant.” He said clearly, every word perfectly pronounced as though he believed she wouldn’t understand any other way. “That is what I sent you for.”
“Yes, my master, but I had to tell you the good news.” She said gently, leaning her head on his shoulder. “What good would I be if I told you nothing?” She asked just as sweetly, a dangerously silky tone in her voice as her other hand ran down his chest and squeezed his groin as if it were public access.
Power seemed to explode from his very finger tips as he threw her across the room. “You dare touch me, you whore! Get out of before I’m tempted to drain what pathetic life you have left. I wanted you to do one simple little thing and you could not even do that. One pathetic girl that is not even half your power and yet you fail. You FAIL.”
“Master, please, I meant nothing by it. I only thought you and I we could-“ Her body quaked as her hair fell over her eyes, watching his eyes change to their usual brilliant blue again. “Please, forgive me. I only serve you. I only serve you!”
“Get out!” He bellowed as she scrambled to the tall door in the great chamber overlooking the valley below. He went to the magnificent window that he stood over daily to collect himself. He had to find her at any cost. Nothing would stop him, not even himself.

Bob was holding her hand as gently as possible, feeling It shake in his own. He had never been so worried about her. Morana was barely breathing even though the bullet had hit her shoulder when she dived in front of him. He wished she would let him protect her for once instead of the other way around. Gently, he kissed her hand and looked up when he heard someone nearby.
“Who’s there?”
“It’s only me,” a voice he knew answered and he sighed in relief. He really didn’t feel like killing anyone anyway.
“It’s about time. She’s barely alive. I don’t know what’s keeping her here but it’s not me.”
“Keep your pants on, Bryar. I was getting help. Come on, Frank. He’s not going to eat you.”
“I wouldn’t bet on it.” Bob said, not a hint of teasing in his voice. He had never liked Frank but knew he had no other choice in it. Morana’s very life depended on a half demon of all things. He thought of the creature even touching her made him sick. But right now he didn’t have the time to hate him.
“Frank, it’s her shoulder. All we need is toget that bullet out. Quickly. We don’t have much time.”
Frank merely muttered and began to unpack his bag, anesthesia in hand and tweezers and scissors in the other. This wasn’t going to be easy and it had been quite some time since he had done any of the sort.
It seemed hours to Bob but he knew it couldn’t have been much shorter than that. He made himself watch every second of it and finally relaxed when the last stitch was in place. He watched Frank lean back in exhaustion and saw the anger and obsession in his eyes for the first time. He had never liked that expression and especially in a dangerous half breed like Iero.
“She’ll wake up on her own time and not until then. I should be going,” Frank said with a dramatic yawn and stood up, shooting a detested glare at Ella for good measure.
“It’s late,” Bob said as he checked his watch and caught distant light in the horizon. Morning was coming fast and he knew all of them had been up all night: creatures as they were. “We have an extra room. If you behave yourself, you can rest here for now.”
There was a long awkward silence. Ella was staring at Bob in frustrated shock. Frank, however, was grinning slyly at this suggestion. “Oh, well, thank you, Bryar. Since I did save her life I’m glad you thought to repay me. Don’t worry I won’t be staying long. Just long enough to create some well deserved… tension.”
And with that he showed himself to the other room with ease, still grinning at that. Ella was glaring the perfection of death at Bryar and she folded her arms in equal annoyance. “Remind me to kill you later when I have more time.”
“I’ll make sure to forget,” Bob teased and settled down below her bed. He had slept in worse than the floor before anyway.

Mikey was having his old nightmare again, in pain even in his sleep. He called the familiar dream Ella and what had once been. He saw it even then as real and just as haunting as before. He had to remind himself it was only a dream and nothing more.
He had been in love. Things were so much easier as an innocent novice, just barely getting along in his new life. So much ahead of him. She was a full angel then, deceivingly in love with him just as much. Then it happened. He had been blind to its lies, the devils in the shadows.
Frank Iero. He had wanted to blame it all on the half breed. But he knew that was not true. Temptation. Her temptation. It had been hard enough to see that she was falling because of Iero, the half demon who had sworn to him he knew nothing about the “other man”.
He remembered everything still so clearly. Perhaps he imagined it now a little worse than it had been but he doubted that. He twitched in his sleep, his side bleeding again as his bandage broke up.
Night. He went to see her, to surprise her with flowers and nice date out. But it turned out to be another nightmare that he would always remember. Yes, she was there in her bed, but with someone else. Someone else he knew and all too well. He stood there in shock as they climaxed without a care. It seemed forever until he actually said something as it came out in a strangled cry.
“What are you doing?! Get out! Get out!” And then he realized it wasn’t his home and he rushed out, slamming the door behind him. It fell hard and he saw the door creak back open.
Ella looked up in a shock, grabbing sheets around her as she pulled out in a tangle of linen. “Wait! Mikey, I can explain!”
But she never did and he never wanted to know. And now he was waking up.
He cringed as he woke up in a shock. It took him some time to remember what was going on as he was in a horrible daze and pain still shot through his side. He held onto his neck and the numbness from the sharp teeth marks that still panged into his skin.
Gerard. Where was he? Had he been abandoned again? He tried to say something when he felt his neck cringe him into silence. His breath was harsh as she sat up, biting his lip when he felt the bandage around his side loosen again and the blood began to spill openly onto the couch, his pants still the same from the day before.
“Sit back down. We don’t have much time.” Came a familiar voice “and sorry about that mess there. See, I had to make it look realistic. If he’s still going to trust me, I’ll need him to think you’re dead for some time.”
“Dead?” He rasped. “Aurora’s in trouble. “I can’t be here.”
“No, you stay here. You need to rest. She’s in good hands.”
“But it’s my duty to-“
“Yes, I know. Just wait.”
