Hey guys, I know you
guys are desperately waiting for Childs Mind update but problem is I’ve written the chapter but I’m really not sure about it. I don’t know if what’s going on will complicate the plot too much and drag it away from the focus of the story, 8 year old Gee, so I might put it up as a kinda first draft but then delete it and rewrite, or keep it depending on what you guys think. I’ll see how I feel in a day or two. Anyway, I thought you guys might appreciate a lil something for this story instead...hope you like...
Gerard sat next to his friend, sighing as he watched him start to pick at the tape on his arm holding the chemotherapy drip in place. “Hey...stop it.” Gerard patted Frank’s hand lightly. Frank glanced up at him. “I’m sorry...it itches slightly is all.”
“They said it would do.” Gerard consoled him.
“When can I go home?” Frank asked, looking to his companion.
“I don’t know Frankie. Soon I hope.” There was a brief silence between the pair. “What are we gonna do now?” Frank asked, straying his eyes from Gerard’s.
“What do you mean?”
“With the fans. Do we tell them or not? Do you all continue with the tour?”
“Frank. The tour is 4 months away. You could be well enough to tour by then...”
“Gerard! We both know this is going to take longer than 4 months!”
“We don’t know what you’ll be like in 4 months; you could be in remission by then for all we know...” Gerard lifted Frank’s chin so he was looking him directly in the eye. “What’s brought all this on?”
“I’m being realistic! Stop living in a dream world Gerard! Me going on tour is not going to happen! By then I could be...” The tears were falling from Frank’s eyes. Gerard sighed deeply, pulling Frank into his arms, letting him sob into his shoulder. “We will beat this Frankie.” He whispered into his ear. “Together.”
After a few minutes Frank pulled away, drying his eyes. “I’m sorry...I...”
“What have you got to be sorry for?” Gerard asked. “It’s perfectly understandable with everything that’s been going on.”
Frank gave a faint, watery smile. “Yeah, I guess you’re right.” The smile faded a moment or two later. “I want to go home Gee...I want to get outta here.”
“I’ll talk to the doctor’s okay?”
***
“I really don’t think it’s safe for Mr. Iero to be home alone at the moment...” The doctor told Gerard, who took a deep breath, nodding his understanding. “What if one of us were to be staying with him? Would that make a difference?”
The doctor considered this for a moment. “Well perhaps that might work but I’m afraid w:st="on">Brandon has the last call on these things...?”
“ w:st="on">Brandon? His psychiatrist?”
“One in the same. His patients, his call. He may feel he is too vulnerable to be at home at the moment and would prefer him to be kept here for close observation...You’d have to talk to him about it...”
‘That’s just a nice way of saying he’s on ‘suicide watch’.” Gerard thought to himself as he thanked the doctor and walked back along the corridor, hands stuffed deep in his pockets.
When he reached Frank’s room, he found the bed empty. The sheets messed up and wires abandoned. He also noticed the clothes from earlier that had been in a small pile on the opposite side of the room were gone. He grabbed a nurse as she passed him. “Have you seen the patient that was in here?”
“I’m sorry I haven’t. I didn’t realise he was gone...” Gerard let her go about her job before walking back into the room and glancing around. He had to find him.
He took off at a run down the corridor, desperately searching for the dark haired boy. As he rounded the corner he bumped into Ray coming the other way. “Gerard? What the...? What’s wrong?”
“Frank. Gone.” Gerard gasped out, trying to regain his breath.
“What?! Where could he have gone?!” Ray took a steadying breath to calm himself and then immediately started to take control of the situation. “Okay, he might try to leave the hospital and discharge himself so I’ll check downstairs; you keep looking up here alright?”
Gerard nodded, watching as Ray hurried into the lift. He spun on his heel, looking desperately around for any clue as to where Frank would have gone. It was then he spotted the sign that guided visitors to the floors of the hospital. The top floor’s description caught his eye:
‘5th Floor: Restaurant
style='mso-spacerun:yes'> Shop
style='mso-spacerun:yes'> Roof Access.’
“The roof...” Gerard whispered to himself. Frank would want to get away where no-one else would be. Where no-one would be likely to find him. That had to be it; he jumped into the lift, pressing the button for the 5th floor.
***
Frank took a deep breath of fresh air. His shoes crackling on the gravel slightly. It felt nice to be out of that hospital gown finally and feel more like himself again. His T-shirt flapped around his waist in the wind and he slowly walked to the edge of the roof, staring out over the city. He jumped on to the wall and spun round so his legs were dangling off the side and took a couple of deep breaths. The wind caught a hold of his hair, blowing it away from his face. He sighed in contentment.
He then reached into his pocket and pulled out a newly bought packet of cigarettes and lighter. He unwrapped the pack and brought one to his lips, before sparking up the lighter and letting it burn the end, feeling the smoke slowly filter into his mouth and lungs. He felt the stress in his muscles begin to dissipate as the nicotine flowed into his veins.
*BANG* The door on the roof was slammed open but Frank didn’t even flinch. “Frank!!”
“I knew you’d find me...” Frank spoke without even turning round to look at the speaker. “It was just a matter of time.” He let the out his breath, watching it filter from his lips in puffs of wispy smoke, before bringing the cigarette to his lips once again and taking another drag.
Gerard slowly walked towards his friend and took up the seat beside him. He stared at him for a moment as he smoked, waiting to see if Frank would say something. “I’m sorry. I need to get away for a bit.”
“It’s cool. I get it.” Gerard told him before slipping a cig from the pack and picking up the lighter. “May I?”
“Be my guest.” Frank said still not looking at him, but knowing what he meant.
“You know the doctors are going to want you to stop smoking...and I think you should. It’s really bad for you.” He brought his lit cigarette to his lips taking a puff. Frank snapped his head round to look at him. “Hypocrite much?”
“I’m not sick Frank.” Gerard told him bluntly.
“Yeah but I...”
“I know it sucks Frank but we need to get you better and this isn’t going to help. And you know it.” Frank huffed and swung his legs back over the side, stubbing his cigarette butt out under his foot before beginning to walk away. Gerard turned as well. “Frank! Wait!”
“Just leave me alone Gerard! I need time to clear my head!”
“I’m just trying to help Frank...” Gerard told him, beginning to walk towards the angry boy.
“Yeah? Well stop trying...I need...I...” Frank took a shuddering breath, closing his eyes a second, feeling his knees almost buckle beneath him. “Woah...”
Gerard rushed to his side, clutching him by the arm to steady him. “Frank? Talk to me. What’s wrong?”
“I don’t know...I feel really...” Frank rocked slightly, unsteady on his feet and Gerard gripped harder to try and keep him upright. “Frank...come on we need to get back downstairs...”
“No I’m fine...” Frank protested. “It’ll pass...”
“Please Frankie...” Frank managed to look up into Gerard face, he looked so pleading.
“Fine...” Gerard sighed in relief before slowly manoeuvring him back down the stairs and into the lift, holding him tightly the whole way in case he collapsed.
*** Ray sighed and smiled slightly when he saw Gerard walk back into the room, Frank beside him. “Thank god, you found him. Are you okay?”
“Yeah he’s fine.” Gerard told him. “Just needs some rest I think.” Ray nodded in understanding as Gerard got Frank back into the bed. “Makes sense.”
“Where’s Bob and Mikey?”
“Gone to Frank’s to get him some clothes and essentials.” Gerard nodded before going to the door and calling a nurse in so she could put all the wires back on Frank correctly. Frank sunk down in the bed, he could hear Gerard talking to the nurse, but his brain wasn’t really processing it properly. He let his eyes slide close, letting the darkness envelop him and slipped off into sleep.
Okay, that’s it for this chappy. I hope you like it enough to tell me what you think. I have not really decided which path to go down with this yet, Frank dying or not being the two options here...I love Frankie too much to kill him off I think, however it just depends on which kind of route makes sense...I don’t know what you guys think would be the best way for this story to go but if you have any suggestions for anything to do with any of my stories I’d love to know. Thanks to my amazing reviewers thus far. Slayya
