Chapter Three: Crush
Amelie sighed as she arrived at work the next morning. She was still living with her uncle and Chris and using one their cars but she very much enjoyed their home and company. She was wearing light washed ripped straight leg jeans and a Beatles shirt that hang off one shoulder slightly. Her long wavy hair was down and she had aviators on covering her face, in her hands was her own coffee and Josh’s. They hadn’t really spoken since the day before, she felt like a stupid jealous little girl. Amelie walked into Josh’s “office”, basically just his space to think and write, without a word she set the coffee on his desk, he was on the phone. “No, I’m not doing that commercial.” “I don’t care if you’re my manager and think it’s a good idea.” “I’m a musician I’m not doing commercials.” “No! Never! Not for anything, unless it’s a charity or fundraiser” “Good tell them the answer is no! Goodbye.” Amelie was trying to sneak away while he was getting off the phone.
“Hey!” He said loudly as she reached for the door, “Stay in here.”
She sighed and walked over, sitting in the chair across from his desk. “That’s it he’s going to fire me! After only a month” She thought to herself. Before she could speak he spoke.
“I’m sorry I was an asshole yesterday.” Josh admitted, “And I’m sorry if I don’t appreciate what you do for me all the time. Quite frankly my life would fall apart without you.” If only he met that in the way she wished he did.
“And I’m sorry I called you an alcoholic asshole. You’re not an alcoholic.” She paused, “Or an asshole...”
“And I’m sorry I called you a self-righteous bitch.” Josh laughed slightly. There was a short silence then he smiled, “Well, I’m going to finish writing this. I’ll come to your desk in twenty minutes?” Amelie nodded and smiled, as she opened the door to leave he added, “And thank you for the coffee.”
“You’re welcome.” Amelie smiled. “You’re a good boss, Josh.”
“Now you’re making me blush but I’m not really your boss. I’m your friend, so stop forgetting that.” Amelie smiled slightly and nodded. “See you in twenty.”
She at her desk sketching and letting her mind wonder, she didn’t have any work to do none of Josh’s bills to pay or meetings to set up. Amelie began to listen to some of Josh’s music, she had taken a real liking to it. She thought he was incredibly talented. Her phone buzzed, it was a text from Chris. ‘Joshie boy talking to you yet?’ ‘Yep. You know us.’ Was her response. Chris wrote back ‘Know you guys? Well, I know you’re madly attracted to one another’. Amelie chose not to respond to that last message. Just as she closed her phone Josh walked in. Amelie looked annoyed and distressed, due to the text message.
“Well, aren’t you just a ray of sunshine this morning?” Josh teased as he sat down on her desk. “So Jamie called (the manager) he wants me to due a commercial…for running shoes are something. I told him to sod off.”
Amelie immediately started laughing. Josh had a very nice physique but most of it was natural, she didn’t picture him as an athlete. “That’s hilarious”
“What? Why?” Josh looked shocked.
“Joshua, you’re not exactly athletic.” She managed to get out in between laughs.
“Am too! Look at these muscles.” He laughed as he flexed.
“I just don’t see you as an athlete.” Amelie was still laughing a little.
“Yeah, well I could kick your ass in a game of one on one basketball.” His face was red with annoyance.
“No way. I grew up with three brothers. I’d kill you!” She exclaimed.
“Come on then!” He picked her up and threw her over his shoulder.
“PUT ME DOWN!” She gasped as she hit his back.
“No way. We’re going to the park across the street and I’m going to kick your ass in a game.” Josh laughed as he carried her out of the building, his hand slowly moving to and lingering on her behind.
“Watch the hands, Mister.” Amelie teased, making Josh turn beat red.
“Oh uh sorry.” Josh managed to mutter as they arrived and he placed her on the ground. “Ready to lose?” He asked confidently.
“You wish.” Amelie laughed, picking up a stray basketball.
They game began first Amelie was winning, then Josh, then Amelie again. It seemed as if every time she had the ball, while he was guarding her he took every chance he could to touch her body. “Chill out.” He thought to himself, “This is your assistant. She’s an employee and definitely thinks I’m a giant jerk with all the shit she has to put up with. Plus, she’s too young for you.” When the game was tied, Amelie tripped and fell.
“OUCH!” She winced, as she sat on the ground and held her cut knee.
“Aww. Let me look at it.” Josh went quickly over to her and crouched on the ground to see. “Lets get you inside so I can clean it up.” Before Amelie could protest that she was fine he scooped her up in his arms and started walking inside.
“Really. I’m okay.” She started to say.
“I know but that black top is dirty.” He cut in, “Hey you’re my assistant…aren’t you supposed to be carrying me.” Josh teased.
“As if, Mr. Groban handling the rest of your life is hard enough.” Amelie laughed as he set her down on a chair inside and grabbed a first aid kit.
He crouched down again to see her knee. “This will probably sting…” Josh said as he cleaned her cut. She winced slightly then sighed when he put a band-aid on it and patted in gently. For a moment their eyes met and stayed there. Feeling the intensity Josh muttered, “There you go. All cleaned up.”
“Thank you.” She replied softly as she sat up then looked at her watch, “Oh shit! We need to get you to that new recording studio.”
“Oh yeah right.” Josh said, as he rose. His phone buzzed. “Probably another little groupie…” Amelie thought to herself as she rolled her eyes. She was beginning to think all her little fantasies about Josh, would always remain just little fantasies. The only problem was she was beginning to develop real feelings for him, not just an attraction. While Josh ignored his phone Amelie bent over in front of him to pick some of the first aid supplies off the floor. The edge of the black thong she was wearing was visible. “God, damnit. I want her,” He thought to himself.
“Shall we go?” Amelie said, grabbing her blackberry and unfinished coffee.
“Uh yeah of course.” Josh grumbled as he grabbed some new music he was working on. On the car ride there he kept thinking about Amelie. She said she was an artist but he was yet to see her work. Did she have a boyfriend? How long will she put up with being my assistant? Where does she even live? Why does she drink that gross black coffee?
“Coming out of there, Joshie boy?!” There was a loud knock on his window and he jumped. They had arrived at the new studio and Ted; a member of the band was trying to get his attention.
“Of course, sorry man.” Josh said, exiting the car.
“Amelie tells me she beat you in basketball.” Ted laughed as they began walking inside.
“I believe it was a tie.” He responded, glaring at Amelie then chuckling slightly.
“Whateverrrr!” Amelie said, sipping her coffee.
“How do you drink that black? It’s so strong it’s disgusting!” Josh said.
“I’m a strong woman. I need strong coffee.” She laughed.
“That is true.” Ted said, as Amelie walked in front of them to greet the manager of the studio. He laughed to himself as he caught Josh staring, “Dude stop checking out her ass.” Ted whispered just to see Josh blush.
“I wasn’t.” Josh lied, turning red.
“Liar. Can’t blame you though. I’d tap that.” Ted laughed. Josh felt a spark of jealously. He had never thought of Amelie and other men, he didn’t like the idea. Which is why when he saw the manager of the studio flirting with her he interrupted immediately.
“Hello, I’m Josh.” He extended his hand to the man. He was maybe a year or two older than Josh, had an athletic build and shaggy blonde hair.
“Ryan.” The man responded, “Good to finally meet you.”
“Oh, my crush I’ve got a crush
I suppose that I could hold it in
but you excite my every cell
sources say that senses are your friends
my senses say that I should tell you
you that I’m not ashamed
you might feel the same…”
