“Pauli, you saw her right? Aki? She was the one who yelled at me to hold the lift doors when we first got here. I can’t quite figure her out. I mean, she knew who I was, but didn’t freak out like the usual girls. She said So? Like it didn’t matter.” Lauri told his friends the next afternoon. They were all in Eero’s room, and he was going on again about her.
“Lintu, man, can you just shut up already?! I think you’ve told us this three times. And that’s not counting how many times we heard it last night at the pub when you got drunk. Enough!” Aki said, throwing a pillow at him to emphasize his point. “Now, can we please get back to the important thing here? Which horror do we want to subject ourselves to today?” he asked, holding up four random movies.
As they all debated over which one to watch, Lauri couldn’t stop thinking about the strange girl from yesterday. She didn’t care who I was? Why does that bother me so much? I’ve always wished that the fans wouldn’t go crazy every time they saw me and know it’s bothering me. Why? These thoughts kept swirling around his head as the movie started. He barely noticed when Eero, taking a lead from Aki, threw a pillow at him.
“Lintu? Hello, earth to Lauri. What’s going on in that feathered head of yours? Still stuck on the fan girl?” Eero asked him with a serious look. Not wanting to get picked on again, he Lauri lied.
“No, I just have some lyrics I’ve been thinking about. I can’t seem to get them right and I’ve been stuck on it all day.” He said quickly and continued with a grin, “I’ve already seen this one guys. Mind if I leave you sissies to scream?”
“Going to find her then, huh?” Aki joked but quickly turned serious. “Fine. Just don’t be disappointed when she turns out to be like the rest of the fans, crazy and drooling.” Nodding Lauri left his friends to their movie.

I’ve been watching, I’ve been waiting, in the shadows… he walked through the park, humming his own song continuing the verse, singing under his breath. He’d been wandering around for an hour and the sun was going to be setting soon. He should really head back. The guys would be done with the movie and he wanted something to eat. Looking around at all of the trees and the few people on the back pathways, he thought about why he was here. He’d been caught just outside the hotel by some fans that did the usual screaming and had barely gotten away. So he’d come to the park hoping that he could get lost and not be found. Coming around the bend in the path, he saw a girl sitting alone under a tree, swearing to herself at a book in her hands. Then he looked closer. What was she doing here? Leaving the path, he walked up to her and looked over Ivy’s shoulder at the book she’d been swearing at. It was a thoroughly used journal with many lines crossed out darkly. Hmm, looks like mine.
“Can I see?” he asked and then chuckled as she jumped at the sound of his voice. Looking up at him, he noticed she had really blue eyes. She clutched the book to her chest with one hand, and then patted the ground beside her with the other.
“God, you scared me! No, you cannot see. No one can, not until I’m done. I wouldn’t want you trying to steal my lyrics now would I?” She asked smiling as he sat down beside her. “What are you doing here anyway?” she continued looking at him with a frown.
“Uh, just walking around. I’m not stalking you, really. The hotel was just boring and there was nothing else to do. The guys are watching a movie I’ve already seen and…” his words trailed off as he realized what she had said. “Lyrics? You’re a songwriter?” he asked.
“Well, I’m not as good as you. But I just do it for fun, especially since I can’t sing worth beans!” She laughed. Looking at him she made a pinched face. “Bored, huh? Fame not exciting enough for you?”
“It gets old. I can’t go anywhere because of being recognized and then swamped by fans or the press. It sucks. That’s why you surprised me. You didn’t care that I was Lauri Ylönen, sex god, or whatever it is that fans call me on the internet. It was… refreshing.” He smiled at Ivy, who was nearly dying with laughter at his description of himself.
“Sex god! Ha! Yeah I’ve seen that around. I guess if you go for the dark and mysterious type then yeah it would fit.” She laughed. Standing up she put her journal away and slung her bag over her shoulder. “Wanna walk and talk, Mr. Sex God, sir?” she smiled at him.
“Sure.” He replied, standing as well. Brushing the dirt from his backside, he asked “Hey, you probably already have plans, but you want to get some dinner with me. I’m hungry.”
“Ok. Where did you want to go?” Ivy said even while surprise showed on her face from his question. “I saw a nice little Mexican place just before the park. You up for tacos?” She giggled at his hunger stricken look as he moaned ‘tacos, tacos’ and grabbed his stomach. “I’ll take that as a yes!”

“Four tacos, a burrito, and half of my nachos. I guess you were starving! Don’t they feed you on tour?” Ivy laughed as he stole yet another of her nachos. He really should stop; he was getting a little sick from all the food. But he was nervous and had to do something. As soon as he got his nerves under control she would look at him with her blue eyes and he would just get nervous again. He just wanted to talk to somebody normally and now he’d found someone who was normal and treated him that way too. It wasn’t his fault she was beautiful. She was so nice to him too. “Lauri?”
“Huh, oh sorry, just thinking. Your eyes are really pretty.” Shit, why’d I say that?! “I mean, I don’t know, never mind…” he mumbled and then blushed ten shades of red. She just looked at him with mild surprise.
“Thanks, I think. It’s the contacts. Makes them look bluer than they really are.” She said.
“’Eyes are the window to the heart and soul.’ If you really want to know someone, look them in the eyes. Of course, it doesn’t work with some people. Aki has learned how to look me straight in the eye and lie through his teeth! I don’t know how he does it. Bastard, I can never tell when he’s joking or being serious…” he trailed off, not wanting to sound like a bumbling idiot. Ivy just smiled at him and nodded.
“I agree. A person’s emotions can all be read in their eyes. Take yours for example; they light up when you smile or laugh, it’s easy to see when you’re upset or sad, and there is a little flash of what I swear is fire when you’re being devilish. And I’ve only known you a day!” She blushed as she told him this. Crap, now he’s going to think I’ve done nothing but stare at his eyes all day. An awkward silence hung in the air while Lauri digested what she had just said. Before he could respond, the waiter brought the bill to the table and Ivy grabbed it and went to go pay. When she came back she grabbed her bag and said, “Look, I’m sorry but I have to get back to the hotel to work on these shots. I got some good ones earlier but most are going to need touch ups. Thanks for asking me to dinner. Meals are no fun alone. I’ll see you around ok? Bye!” She turned with a blush creeping up her face. Lauri just sat there stunned.
What happened? She practically ran away. I didn’t even get a chance to invite her to the bar. He watched her leave the restaurant and couldn’t think of a single thing that had gone wrong that would make her leave like that. Unfortunately, he couldn’t find her when he left the restaurant himself, so he headed to the bar alone.
