Disclaimer: This story is a work of fiction. I do not profit monetarily from this work. I don't know Kelly Clarkson or Carrie Underwood. |
I'm glad you guys are enjoying the story and the Kelly and Carrie parts; there's going to be more of them soon. The stuff with Ashley will come out slowly. Hope you all still like Tommy after this chapter.
Ch 3
Tommy brushed his hand through his hair; and assured that his hair was perfect, he then shut the visor mirror and looked at Carrie. “I thought you said we were still a few blocks away?”
Carrie snickered as she pulled the keys from the ignition and pressed down the parking break. “Didn’t stop you from checking your hair for the twelfth time.” She unbuckled her seatbelt before she placed her keys in her purse. She was fairly certain they had finally arrived at Kelly’s address. “Don’t give me that look. It’s not my fault the girl doesn’t give good directions.”
Tommy hurriedly took off his seatbelt as Carrie got out of the car. He did not want to be left behind, though he knew Carrie wouldn’t do that to him. “Her directions were fine. We got here didn’t we?” Tommy walked around to the front of the car and looked around the neighborhood as Carrie locked the car. “There’s less cars than I thought there would be. Are you sure we’re at the right place?”
Carrie smiled to smother her giggles, and then she walked to Tommy and hooked her arm with his. “Well if it’s not, then we’re about to crash somebody’s party.” She softly pulled on Tommy’s arm and led them towards the right house as her friend’s laughter stopped because of his nerves. “Maybe it’s smaller-" Carrie stopped herself from staying that it might be a smaller party than they thought. Tommy would probably be even more nervous if she mentioned that possibility. “You’ll be fine. You already talked to her on the phone, right?”
Tommy sighed at the caring tone in his friend’s voice. He wasn’t doing as good of a job as he thought about hiding his nerves. “True, I did, but I also thought you were pulling a prank on me.” Tommy used Carrie’s hold on his arm to pull her closer when they reached the front door of the house. “I’m so ecstatic, just don’t let me do something stupid like tell her that she’s the only girl I would sleep with.” He looked expectantly at Carrie while she laughed because of his nerves. “Okay, don’t offer support if-"
Carrie quit messing around when she realized that Tommy was actually serious. “I knew you liked her like that Jack character loves Cher, but really?” She quickly finished her thoughts when Tommy’s frown deepened. “I won’t let that happen. You know I’ll stop you from embarrassing yourself, cuz’ you’ll do the same for me.” Carrie smiled when Tommy laughed before he nodded his agreement. “Good. Now, knock or ring the doorbell so we can find out if we’re crashing one of her neighbors’ parties.” She comfortingly patted Tommy’s free arm while he rang the doorbell.
Tommy tried not to think about how let down he would be if they were at the wrong place; instead, he turned and kissed Carrie’s cheek for her attempt to calm him down. “You are such a girl sometimes.” He smiled as Carrie smirked. “No smirking, missy. Kelly’s the only girl I’d even think of sleeping with, not you, remember.” Tommy giggled when Carrie playfully glared and called him a bitch. He froze when the door opened, although he grinned when he saw Kelly Clarkson.
Carrie didn’t even get a chance to say hello back to Kelly before Tommy had dropped her arm and hugged the pop singer. She didn’t know if she was amused at how silly her tall friend looked as he hugged Kelly, or if she should apologize. “Wow, I thought you told me not to let you-" Carrie laughed and took a step back as Tommy let go of Kelly and briefly glared at her. “I’m sorry, Kelly.”
Kelly wanted to laugh at how Carrie and the man at her front porch interacted; it was just like she had heard on the phone. “No need to apologize. I’m glad you made it.” She hugged the blonde before she turned to the guy that had hugged her. “You must be Tommy? Come on in, most everybody’s here.” Kelly laughed along with Carrie when Tommy grinned at her. She shook her head and walked further into the house so her guests would follow. “Did y’all find it all right?”
Tommy pulled Carrie inside so that Kelly could shut the front door, and then he promptly let go of his friend. “Yeah, your directions were great.” He pretended not to see Carrie’s look of disbelief. So he had been nervous and had asked Carrie a few times if she had wrote down the directions wrong… and then asked her if she had known where she was going… that hadn’t been Kelly’s fault. “Thanks for saying that I could come with Carrie. I’ve been so looking forward to it.”
Carrie stared at the ground so that she didn’t say anything about Tommy’s behavior. She had never seen her friend act so star struck, and yet, Tommy acted as if he was a friend of Kelly’s. When Tommy began to ask Kelly some questions about the party, she looked around at the rest of the party. She was surprised to see that there were more people at the party than the number of cars outside the residence had indicated. “Cool party, Kelly. We thought for a minute that we were at the wrong place because of the lack of cars out front.”
Kelly was thrown by the random comment, because Tommy had been in the middle of a sentence, so she smiled slyly at Tommy and stepped closer to the man whom was obviously a little crushed out on her. “Score! My party is cool enough to get people to comment about it’s awesomeness while others are talking!” Kelly held her hand up to Tommy so he would high-five her, but when she noticed the look on Carrie’s face, she quit with her joke. “Don’t blush, I’m glad you like the party.”
Carrie managed to hold in her relieved sigh. She would have been embarrassed if she had said the wrong thing again. “I do.” She smiled to prove her point and looked around at the people that were around them. It was like all of Tommy’s nerves had all been transferred over to her now that they were at the party. “Where can I get a drink? I need it after the week that I’ve had.” Carrie momentarily looked away from Kelly when Tommy grabbed her hand again.
“I’ll get you guys some drinks, just go on and have fun while I check on a few things.” Kelly waited until Tommy and Carrie told her what they wanted, and then with a final smile at both, she left them and headed to the kitchen. She needed to talk with Ashley, and she really did need to see if everything was all right with the party. Kelly was so into her thoughts about how to tell Ashley that Carrie had shown up, that she almost missed it when two of her friends called out her name and waved her over. She smiled and changed her path so that she could get to the couple.
Tommy kept his grip on Carrie’s hand and dragged her away from the door. He couldn’t wait to talk to the rest of the people, especially now that Carrie had basically admitted that she wanted to have a night out. They hadn’t partied in forever because of what could happen if the news got out to the media. “Let’s get away from the music. I want to be able to hear you.”
Carrie followed until they had reached a point in between the living room and the hallways that probably led back to the rest of the house. She stood next to the wall that formed one side of a staircase and looked around. Kelly had said no one would care about her presence at the party, and that seemed to be the case. The knowledge let her relax completely. “I’m proud that you managed not to maul her.” Carrie laughed when Tommy playfully rolled his eyes.
“Isn’t she nice though? I can’t believe I hugged her. I don’t know what I was thinking. She is so sweet, and that adorable little accent.” Tommy didn’t care that he was most likely about to give Carrie information that she could use to tease him for months. He just wanted her to know that he appreciated that she had brought him.
"Yeah, yeah. I made it so that you could meet and hug your gay idol. Thank me later.” Carrie snickered because of the smile on Tommy’s face.
"You’re just mad you can’t meet George Michael like this.”
"I already met him, thank you very much.” Carrie shook her head at the familiar exchange. She had started saying ‘gay idol’ whenever she referred to Tommy’s favorite singers, usually Kelly, because of the way Tommy had teased her the first time he had explained the concept to her. “I’m gonna have to keep you from feeling her up when she comes back with the drinks, aren’t I?”
“Bitch.” Tommy laughed when Carrie nodded to pretend that the remark was truthful.

Ashley laughed under her breath when she found Kelly with a couple. She snuck up quietly and threw her arms around Kelly’s shoulders as she leaned in and spoke so the people around couldn’t hear her. “Are you talking to only couples in case Jason comes home early?” Ashley openly laughed when Kelly swatted her hand. “Hey guys, I need to steal her for a minute. We’ve got to talk about party stuff.”
Kelly excused Ashley and herself, and then she quickly grabbed her best friend and took them back to the kitchen. She made sure to block the exit with her body so that Ashley couldn’t leave. “Jason’s not coming home early right? I mean I thought he was going out on a date.” It wasn’t that she didn’t want Jason at her party, he had come to some, but after his threat about scaring off anyone that talked to her, she wanted to be sure.
“Relax, Kel. He’s not coming back tonight with the way I dressed him.” Ashley smirked because of the grossed out look on Kelly’s face. “You pictured it didn’t you?”
"I hate you sometimes.” Kelly was glad that she hadn’t met her brother’s date. She did not need a mental image to go along with Ashley’s statement. “Are you sure you don’t have a crush on him? I mean you keep bringing up-"
"Stop before you gross us both out.” Ashley walked around the kitchen and checked on the food that hadn’t been brought out yet. “You need to get some more ice, and in like five minutes the trays need to be pulled from the oven.” Ashley peeked at the oven window to make sure that the food hadn’t started to burn, and then stood up and grabbed a tray of food that she needed to bring out. “Can you manage without burning yourself?”
Kelly looked from the tray to Ashley, and then she looked at the doorway. “No, I can’t manage. You should stay in here and take care of all that.” She smiled brightly and hoped that Ashley wouldn’t question her. “It’s your job as my best friend."
Ashley set the tray down and walked over to Kelly. She was intrigued by Kelly’s answer. There had been no retort about her own culinary skills or defense of Kelly’s own. “Did you meet someone? I’ll need your help with the ice, but I can get the rest of this.” She leaned around Kelly and tried to see if anyone nearby looked like they were waiting for Kelly. “Who? Details, now.”
Kelly pulled Ashley back as she tried not to frown. “I didn’t meet anyone. I’ve been talking to everybody.” She wanted to curse that her tactic to keep Ashley in the kitchen had backfired. “Look, there’s no one hitting on me, I just… wanted to keep you in the kitchen?”
Ashley didn’t try to hide her confusion. “What are you talking about? We always do the hostess thing together. Why would you dump it all on me now?” She stared at Kelly when the shorter girl didn’t reply immediately. “Did somebody do something to you?”
If she wasn’t so unsure of how Ashley would react, she would have teased the girl for the overprotective comment. “Stop being Jason. Carrie’s here. I just wanted to keep the two of you apart since you think she’s such a bitch. Which she’s not.” Kelly folded her arms over her chest and stared at Ashley. She was not going to let Ashley say anything similar around Carrie.
Ashley was surprised by Kelly’s news, though she decided not to make a big deal out of Carrie’s arrival. She didn’t want a fight. “Did she bring anyone?” Ashley didn’t want to know if Carrie had brought a date, she just wanted to show Kelly that her friend was more important than being mean to Carrie. She went back to the counter and grabbed the tray of food she needed to bring when Kelly stopped with the arms crossed thing.
“She brought her friend Tommy.” Kelly smiled because she liked the guy enough, but really, she was happy that Ashley was going to be nice.
Ashley walked past Kelly with the tray of food; she knew Kelly would follow. “Did she ask if she could?” She reached the dining room and pretended not to hear Kelly’s sigh.
“I told her she could. What’s wrong with her bringing a friend? How could that possibly be mean of her?” Kelly watched as Ashley slowly replenished the various empty dishes on the table.
Ashley didn’t attempt to answer until she had finished, although she knew the next words out of her mouth wouldn’t be the ones Kelly wanted to hear, so she walked over to the bar and poured them a drink. “It’s not?” It could be bad of Carrie to bring a friend. If a fight happened, or maybe if Carrie’s friend decided to tell people about something that had happened at the party. Ashley didn’t voice her thoughts though, she just handed Kelly a drink. “Don’t worry, I’ll be nice.”
Kelly drank some of her drink when Ashley did the same. She studied Ashley’s expression for a minute, but it seemed like the other girl meant the words. “Cool. I’ll help you with the ice after I get Carrie and Tommy their drinks, okay?” Kelly hugged Ashley when her friend laughed and told her to hurry.

Tommy and Carrie had been talking about the music and the people around them as they waited for Kelly to bring their drinks to them. Tommy had been surprised at some of the people that were at the party, but he had only been surprised for a second. He had also spotted a hot guy; that had helped him forget about the other people at the party. Tommy didn’t want to gush or embarrass Carrie, but she couldn’t have planned a better night out for them if she had tried.
Carrie smirked when she saw that a guy had caught Tommy’s eye. “Go over and see if he’s interested. I’ll be fine.” She would be happy if Tommy found a nice guy. Her stylist didn’t have the best taste in men, but that didn’t hold Tommy back. Carrie loved that Tommy didn’t let himself wallow after his relationships ended. He just put himself back out into the dating scene. She sometimes wished that she could do that, but she couldn’t because of the media.
Tommy faced Carrie and looked at her for a few moments as he determined the truthfulness of her statement. He didn’t want to leave if Carrie would be uncomfortable on her own. He grinned when he realized that she was just happy for him, he didn’t see any nervousness in Carrie’s features. “You’re the best, Care.”
"You know it.” Carrie laughed and lightly pushed Tommy’s shoulder so that he would leave and stop with the sentimental stuff. “You better go before someone else gets there first.”
Tommy hugged Carrie despite her protests. He hesitated for a second, but then he smiled. He didn’t want the cute guy to think that he was with Carrie, so he quickly spoke. “You can totally veto any outfits you don't like for the next year since you brought me to a gay party. Have fun!”
Carrie stared after Tommy as he turned back and mouthed for her to wish him luck. She automatically did as Tommy asked, even though she wasn’t thinking about her friend. She snickered at Tommy’s gay comment; sure that it was a joke. Tommy just wanted to tease her one last time. Carrie bit her lip as she leaned against the wall they had stood next to, and then she glanced at the other partygoers again. She had been surprised at some of the semi-famous people, but she had let the thought go because of course Kelly would invite all her friends. As she looked at the people closely this time, she noticed that most people were paired up, and that it wasn’t guy and girl couples. Carrie swallowed a few times as the truth slowly sunk in to her surprised mind, and then she winced and almost cursed when she realized that it meant Kelly was probably gay too; it was the brunette’s party after all.
