When Night Falls(Pt3)
Crystal reluctantly let Joe drag her to meet his friends. ‘I'll meet them and then leave, that's it. Don't stay long enough to see the look of disgust in their eyes.' She kept repeating to herself. She felt Joe's arm go around her shoulder, stopping her at their table.
"Crystal this is Phil and his wife Gail." Joe made the introduction.
Phil stood up, a huge smile on his face and extended his hand. "Hi Crystal very nice to meet you."
Seeing the outstretched hand, Crystal glanced up to see the warmth in Phil's eyes, despite what she knew him to be. "Hi."
Gail clasped her hand with both of hers. "Hello."
"And Rick."
"Pleasure." He also took her hand, softly kissing the back.
"Would you like to join us for a drink?" Phil asked taking his seat.
"Um...no thank you. I just came by to gi..."
"Please Crystal." Joe gently squeezed her shoulder.
She looked around at them, wanting to join them, but didn't want to be something for them to stare at all night. "No, I'm sorry." Breaking free of Joe's arm, she spun around, darting into the crowd.
"Damn." Joe huffed and went after her. He caught up with her half-way down the block. "Crystal wait!"
She stopped, turning to face him.
"You don't have to run."
"I brought what you asked for. I want my money."
"I want to be your friend Crystal."
"I don't need friends." She spat, narrowing her deep brown eyes. "I know how your kind works. They make you believe you want to be friends, then when they gain your trust, you drain every drop of blood."
"Not all of us are like that. I have hundreds of mortal friends all over the world. I'm not going to ask how you know about vampires or why you think we are all the same." Joe dug in his pocket, pulling out a piece of paper. "I'm not giving you the money to take home to that asshole of a boyfriend you have."
"How dare...How did you know? Have you been following me?"
"A few times."
"You're unbelievable. He will kick my ass if I don't bring that money back."
"Then don't go, come back inside with me."
"I can't, he's waiting for me and if I don't go now, he'll come looking for me."
Joe reached up and tucked a wisp of dirty blond hair behind her ear. "Let him come looking for you. I won't let him harm you."
"You don't understand. He's all the family I have."
"Family members don't treat each other like that."
"How would you know? You don't even know me."
"I don't have to know you. I can see it in your eyes and what you sell on the street corner."
"Yeah something you're unwilling to pay for or give back."
Joe took in a deep breath, but wasn't going to give up. "Ok..." he dug in his pocket again and pulled out the money. "If you ever need anything, go to this address or call one of the numbers, they can..."
"I don't need or want your charity Joe."
"It's not charity, it's a way out."
"Give it to somebody that really needs it." She crumbled the paper and threw it back at him.
Bending over Joe picked it up and straightened it out, then folded it up with the crisp bills. Crystal held her hand out and Joe pressed the bills into her palm, but held onto her hand. He leaned over and lightly kissed her cheek.
"Keep it, just in case." He whispered before backing away from her.
Without another word Crystal turned around and ran down the sidewalk. Joe watched her until she turned the corner and was gone. "Good luck Crystal." Going back inside the club, Joe sat down beside Sav.
"What was that about?"
"Who Crystal?" Joe half shrugged his shoulder. "I though I could help her out of a bad situation."
"That's what the Foundation is for Joe." Gail told him.
"I gave her the number, but I don't know if she will take up my offer of help. Well, we'll just have to wait and see."
"How about another drink?" Sav took up the bottle and refilled Joe's glass. Under the table his hand landed on Joe's thigh, rubbing slowly up and down.
"Gail and I are going to hit the dance floor." Phil said as he stood up and took her hand.
"We'll be out there in a minute, have to shake things up a bit." Joe heatedly stared at Sav.
"One last hooray...eh."
"Of course." Joe leaned in and kissed him. "Dance."
Sav frowned at Joe's request, but followed him out on the floor anyway.
Several hours later Sav fell back in his seat, snatching a few napkins from the holder and wiping his brow free of sweat. Pouring the last of the blood wine in his glass, he quickly drank it. Smiling to him self thinking of how many times he had been approached tonight about following someone home later. Although he had partaken in sharing blood with a few of them, but there was only one person he was going home with tonight. Peering through the crowd to find Joe still talking with Nick.
They were laughing at something that Nick said when Sav caught the movement of someone sitting down beside him.
"Hi." Sav said loud enough for him to hear.
"Hi yourself." The guy smiled rather seductively. "I'm Andy."
"Rick."
"I know who you are. Very well known amongst us." He let it be known that he was interested as he roved his hazel eyes over Sav. "I've been watching you most of the night."
"If you have, then you know that I'm here with Joe and plan on leaving with him. So what do you want?"
"You always show up with him, but don't always leave with him."
"I will be tonight." Sav half smiled. "Nick is available, go bother him."
"That overbearing nymph...no thanks." Andy moved closer, trailing his hand over Sav's thigh, dangerously close to his crotch. "I like the pretty boy rock star type."
"Well I'm not either one." Sav smartly told him and shoved his hand away.
"The word going around is that you'll fuck any one that will spread their legs or bend over."
Sav leaned closer to him, barely touching his lips. "It won't be me spreading yours tonight Andy." The smile that touched Sav's lips spread to his eyes. Scooting from the booth he winked at Andy and went to join Joe and Nick off to the side of the club.
"Jerk." Andy growled and rose from the seat.
"I'm going home." Sav announced curtly when he joined them.
"Why are you leaving? It's still early."
"B-cause everybody in this club has hit on me tonight."
"Can't say that I blame them."
"I haven't." Nick replied eyeing him.
Sav smacked him in the chest with the back of his hand.
"May I ask what that was for?" Nick said rubbing the spot.
Sav sarcastically replied, "That's your idea for hitting on me."
"Perhaps its time for a harsh reminder of that."
"Whatever." Sav blew him off. "Are you coming Joe or staying here?"
"One more dance and a drink, then we'll go."
"Fine, one of each." Sav grabbed his hand and dragged him away.
"Wait...I forgot to tell Nick something." Joe quickly went back over to Nick while Sav stayed where they had stopped.
Returning to him, Joe wrapped his arms around his waist, from the front, pushing him backwards onto the dance floor.
"I can see where everyone would be hitting on you." Joe said moving them slowly around the floor to the music.
"Gee I wonder why." Sav smiled briefly then glanced away. "Oh look..." using his finger, he turned Joe's head. "...the pretty lady that has been flirting with you all night?"
"Yeah she has." Joe turned his attention back in front of him. "But she's not who I want tonight, but..."
"I thought one of the reasons for coming out tonight was to do that."
"It was. Her name is Nicole and she will be leaving with us."
"Oh...ok." Sav kissed him soundly on the lips. "Can we go then?"
"The song isn't over yet and we haven't had our drink."
"15 seconds left isn't going to make that big a difference."
"Eager to get home in bed?" Joe ground his hips against him.
"After I take a shower, need to rinse of the stench of perfume and cigarette smoke."
"Can I wash your back?"
"You can wash whatever you want."
"Ok, drink first, then home." Joe stepped away from him and headed for their table.
Nick was waiting for them, looking very relaxed from what Sav could tell as he sat down beside him. Joe ran off to find Phil and Gail to let them know that they were leaving and already had a ride to the house with Nicole.
Sav downed most of his drink, lowering the glass he frowned at the taste.
"Something wrong?"
"It tastes...old, bitter."
Nick picked up the bottle and sniffed it. "I just opened this one, smells fine."
"Then you taste it." Sav slid his glass over to him.
Sipping the red liquid, Nick frowned. "It does have somewhat of a bitter taste. I'll get another one."
"Don't bother, we're leaving anyway. I'll get some uncut at home."
"Very well." Nick replied.
Sav leaned back in his seat resting his head on the back. "What are you doing the rest of the night?"
"I believe I will follow you home." Nick stopped Sav from replying to his statement. "To entertain myself of course, with a new manuscript I purchased this evening."
"Sounds boring."
"It'll be far from boring." Nick said as Joe came back with Nicole in tow.
"Ready?"
"Yep...I'm ready." Sav rose from his seat.
"Did you take care of it Nick?"
"Yes Joseph, I did."
Sav looked back and forth between them. "Take care of what?"
"Crystal, to get the help she needs."
"She does need it from what I could tell." Sav mumbled and dropped his arm over Nicole's shoulder. "Ready for some fun tonight?"
"More than ready." Nicole licked her lips and ran her hand over his butt.
"Lead the way." Sav snagged Joe's arm, his eyes glittering with desire.
