Chapter 3: Plans
"I'd rather raise our prices than sacrifice our quality." Andy said into her cell phone stepping out of the key place.
After her shower she told everyone she wanted to run some errands and she would be back in a couple of hours. They wanted to protest, but they understood all the same. Andy also wanted to get some supplies for dinner tonight. She asked Ethan to meet her at the grocery store and they would go from there.
She walked a few blocks and smiled when she came up to a building. She ended her phone call and walked up the steps. She opened the door and looked around. "This place hasn't changed." She said with a smile and went up the stairs. She came up to the door and heard muffled voices. She knocked and heard a hasty "Come in."
She opened the door and sure enough there was Kara pacing back and forth just like the first day she met her. Not looking up Kara just pointed at one of the seats. Andy didn't say anything and just sat down in one of the chairs. She looked over and saw the fireplace and smiled, reminiscing of the night she ran away from everyone. This was the spot where she fell in love with Lynn. She was brought out of her thoughts when she heard a squeal.
She looked back over to Kara who rushed around her desk. Andy stood up and they embraced in a tight hug. When they pulled away Kara touched Andy's cheek, "It's good to see you. I've missed you."
"I've missed you too. I'm sorry we didn't get a chance to talk at the wedding."
"Pfft, it's alright. You were busy. So are you back for good? What's going on?" Kara asked pointing at the chair. Andy sat back down and Kara sat in the other chair.
"I guess they didn't tell you."
Kara shook her head, "Tell me what?"
"My agent put me on paid vacation until further notice."
Kara's eyes widened and she smiled, "Are you serious?! So does that mean you're going to stay?"
"More than likely, but next week I'm flying my parents out to Georgia for their anniversary. I want to see my family all in one place. Plus there's some damages to the house from a storm and Brandon's not really sure what to do. Also since I'm an owner of three of my Uncle's restaurants I wanna check on those too. We're thinking about expanding out of Georgia."
"Always the worker bee, even when you have time off." Kara said with a chuckle and Andy nodded.
"I also have to fit in some physical therapy. I took a spill a couple months back and my knee popped. My doc thinks it's a mix of a bone bruise and MCL sprain. So she wants me to get range of motion back. Just haven't had the time. Might not until after my birthday. Enough about me. What happened with you and David?"
Kara sighed and she sat back in the chair, "I don't know. Things were going so well, then all of a sudden you left and it was like something just broke. I want to be with him, but things at work just kinda got a little crazy. We are representing a couple of new bands and one of them keeps trashing hotel rooms. So there's that, and David got promoted to senior editor at his job. Things were taking off, but we just got so busy with our work lives we forgot about each other."
"That's when he suggested we move in together, but I freaked out on him, and we got into this huge fight about how we each put our work first. Your name got brought up a couple of times."
Andy was taken aback for a moment, "Wait, why?"
Kara shrugged, "It was a long the lines of how can we be a workaholic like you and still maintain a relationship."
Andy chuckled and shook her head, "Well you just have to find that person that understands I guess. So what now? Are you two going to get back together?"
Kara shrugged, "I want to. I mean he's asked me out a few times, but I said no. I want him to prove to me that we can make this work."
"But don't forget you have to do the same."
Kara nodded, "I've missed you so. I'm so happy your back." She said touching her arm. Andy put her hand over hers and nodded.
"Now, you need to catch me up on your love life. You and Lynn, how's that going?"
Andy smiled, "Well, Melissa knows, so might as well tell you." Kara moved to the edge of her seat and started to listen to Andy's story.
**************************************************************************
"She said she got caught up, so you and I are doing the bitch work." Ethan said to Shey, putting a few items in the shopping cart.
"Did she say why she got caught up?" Shey asked and Ethan shrugged pushing the cart.
"She's been my best friend for almost nine years. I feel like she still doesn't tell me things. Like this whole thing with her and Lynn. I know something's going on but she won't tell me. It's driving me nuts."
Shey nodded, she knew, but she couldn't tell Ethan. She knew he would be so mad when he found out. But Andy accidentally mentioned it to her when she asked why she wasn't going out with the models. She knew Andy was under a lot of pressure and Andy just blurted out her reason. She remembered the panic look on Andy's face and she rushed up to her telling her she wouldn't tell anyone. That night they went out to dinner and Andy told Shey everything.
She was brought out of her thoughts when she heard her name being called, "Sorry, what?"
"I asked if that was everything on the list. Are you okay?" Ethan said looking at her with a concerned look.
Shey nodded, "Oh, yeah, sorry just started daydreaming a bit. I think that's everything. Oh wait we need to stock up on alcohol. Especially red wine for Angel." She chuckled reading the list. She showed Ethan and in parenthesis the words, 'Especially for Angel' were written next to red wine.
Ethan's phone started to ring and he took it out of his pocket and smiled when he saw Alex's face pop up, "Hey babe what's up?"
"Hey did you know Andy did an interview not too long ago. Like a live TV interview?"
"No, why?"
"We were channel surfing and we see Andy on TV. She got interviewed, we were able to start it from the beginning, but I think you and Shey should get back quick so we could all watch it together."
"Okay, we're almost done."
"See you soon. I love you."
"I love you, bye."
Ethan hung up his phone and looked at Shey, "Do you know anything about a TV interview Andy did not too long ago."
Shey nodded, "Yeah it was like an exclusive two hour interview or something. It was one of the those 'People to Watch' type of interviews."
Ethan nodded, "Alex said there's an interview with her on TV, that we should get back quick."
She nodded and they rushed to finish what they needed to get.
Back at the town house everyone was sitting in the living room waiting for Shey and Ethan to join them.
"It's a two hour interview. What do you think they asked her?" Wendy asked pacing back and forth.
"More than likely how she got started." Brian said.
"Does Melissa know about this?" Alex asked. Just as Lynn walked into the living room.
"I just got off the phone with her. Melissa knows. She was sent the questions to make sure everything was okay. She contacted Andy and helped prepare her for this one. We are mentioned throughout the interview. Melissa watched it before it aired. She said Andy gave us all the credit for her success." She sat down on the couch just as the door opened.
Ethan and Shey rushed in with bags of groceries, "Is Andy here?" He called out and rushed to the kitchen. He and Shey started to quickly put away everything. When they were done they came into the living room and sat down.
"Andy's not here, but are we ready for this?" Brian asked and everyone nodded.
"Okay here goes nothing." He hit play on the remote and the intro music started.
Everyone's attention was on the TV. This would hold some clue to Andy's year long travels.
"Good evening everyone Maria here with Entertainment Music. Tonight we have an exclusive interview with Andrea aka Andy. She's an up and coming photographer, as well as a musician. Thank you for joining us tonight." The pretty blonde said with a white teeth smile.
"Thank you for having me." Andy smiled but everyone could tell she was nervous.
"You just recently came on the scene with your tour with Paramore. How did that journey begin?"
Andy cleared her throat, "Well it actually began with PVRIS. They spell their name with an upside down "A" so it looks like a "V." I was the photographer for them and then I get call from their PR rep saying that Paramore wanted me on tour with them."
"Damn straight." Alex said with a smile. Everyone chuckled and turned their attention back to the TV.
"Oh, interesting. So this band PVRIS is it?"
Andy smiled and nodded at the young blonde.
"They kind of paved the road for you then?"
Andy nodded, "Oh they definitely did. I haven't seen them in a while, but they are amazing, loving, caring, humble, and talented. Also they are the first female lead band that signed to their now record label."
"Nice!" Justin said smiling.
"You're originally from Virginia, but you split your time between there, Boston, and Georgia. Why is that?"
"Well my parents and some family are in Virginia, Boston is where PVRIS is based and we've become close friends, and Georgia is where most of my family is. Plus I also have family in Seattle. Along with family in the Philippines."
"Let's touch on that for a moment. Your mom is now correct me if I mispronounce this. Your mom is Filipina?"
Andy smiled, "Hey! You got it!"
"Oh good, I was worried," Maria said and they both chuckled.
"But yes my mom is from the Philippines. I'm half white and half Filipino and I have my mom's features but my dad's skin tone. Every time I got out with my sister and we say we're related they think we're either half siblings or step sisters. Only because she has my dad's features, but my mom's skin tone. We have the same smile and nose, but other than that we look nothing alike."
"Okay, let's get down to the serious stuff. A couple of years ago you were in a controversy. An article was released claiming you were getting back together with an ex-girlfriend of yours. That has been settled in court. What was going through your mind at the time?"
Andy sighed and shook her head, "All I could think about was how it just seemed I was moving on with my life and my past came back to haunt me. My ex was engaged and she was ready to start a whole new life. I haven't heard from her or anything. It was tough because she was trying to get my attention like before. It wasn't just her either another ex of mine was involved."
"Are you serious?"
Andy nodded, "We were able to get proof that the article was fake and that my exes were just trying to get their fifteen minutes of fame, because my name was slowly getting out there. I wanna say it was the classic you don't know what you have until it's gone, type thing."
"I can't look at Ireland the same." Ethan said and everyone nodded.
"You were also in a relationship at the time weren't you?"
Wendy took Lynn's hand into hers and Lynn squeezed her hand. Everyone was holding their breaths waiting for Andy's answer. Angel took Lynn's other hand in hers.
Andy smiled and started to blush.
"I got Andy to blush. Must have been a whirlwind of a romance." Maria said with a wink.
"She's a very special person in my life. I fell in love with her, and I continue to fall for her every day."
"Are we going to hear wedding bells soon?"
"No comment." Andy said with a small smirk.
Everyone turned their attention to Lynn. She just shrugged and shook her head. After another moment of looking at her they turned their attention back to the TV.
"What are your plans for the future?"
"Well two of my good friends are getting married next week. So I hope I can be there for that. I have a few more photo shoots, and I'm going to be releasing a single in the next couple of months. My birthday is around the corner and I might be on a plane like I was last year. I've always worked on my birthday. I even forget it sometimes." She finished with a laugh.
"I can imagine you forget. I heard you're quite the workaholic." Maria said
"You could say that. On my days off I'm always doing something. Either writing, running errands, making phone calls about future photo shoots, or conference calls with my Uncle's restaurants."
"If you could just picture your ideal day off what would it be?"
"My phone shut off, hanging out with my friends and family, being around those I care about. Having a good meal that isn't take out. Not having a care in the world. Not having to worry about my next deadline, or if I'm going to make my flight. Not worrying about which hotel has rooms, or is the tour bus going to break down. Just one day of me not worrying or stressing about anything. One day to shut off my mind and just relax and be able to enjoy my life."
Everyone looked at each other and they saw Wendy wipe a tear from her eye. Ethan stood up and walked over to her. He sat down next to her and put his arm around her.
"I knew she needed time off, but I didn't realize just how much she was working." Wendy said her voice breaking.
Even Maria had to fix her eye make up, "I'm sorry, but that just hit home. Not only for me but I'm sure a lot of our viewers."
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean-"
Maria smiled and waved her off, "No, it's okay. Wow. I thought I was the one that would get emotional." She chuckled and Andy gave her a small smile.
Maria cleared her throat, "Where do you see yourself five years from now?"
"With my wife and children splitting time between Boston, Virginia, and Georgia. Taking a couple of years off to experience the joys of being a parent."
"You talk as if you're already married. I did notice your ring. Come on Andy, you're holding out on us."
Andy shook her head and smiled, "No comment."
"Just when I thought I was able to get it out of you." Maria smiled. "Couple of things before we go, you plan on opening a gallery soon. Have you picked a location?"
"I'm thinking Seattle. Only because I fell in love with the culture there. Plus it'll be so different than having one in New York or L.A.. I'll be able to see some family there too."
"We'll be on the lookout. So the very last thing we do is to see if you want to do a quick shout out to anyone. If so go ahead."
Andy smiled, "Thank you. Um, mom, dad, Wendy, I love you guys I'll be home soon. My family in Georgia, and Seattle, I swear I will visit soon. My friends in Virginia, I miss you guys and I love you. Brian and Angel I can't wait to see you on our wedding day. Alex, and Justin, stay out of trouble. Shey, keep shooting. Ethan, be good and I miss you. To the girl of my dreams, I'll be home soon. I love you. To everyone that has helped me throughout this journey thank you so much. I couldn't have done ANY of this without your help. Thank you everyone I'll see you all soon."
"And there you have it! Andrea Hill on the rise. Be on the look out for her gallery and new single coming out soon. I'm Maria with Entertainment Music thank you for joining us, until next time good night."
The interview ended and Alex turned down the TV. They all sat around in silence trying to process what they just watched. They were brought out of their thoughts when they heard the door open. In walked Andy and Kara, both on their phones and both carrying bags of groceries.
"I've told you, it's going to work. It's working with at least six of the restaurants. Just trust me on this. Have you done the research?" Andy asked into her phone. She took off her shoes and went straight into the kitchen.
"Okay, okay, I'll take care of it. Melissa, I think it's time you strike fear into their hearts. This is getting really out of hand. I don't know how much more of this I can take." Kara also went into the kitchen. Both on their phones and both having two different conversations.
"Well what's the labor cost?" Andy asked pour some wine into a wine glass and gave it to Kara. She nodded at her and she gave her a thumbs up.
"Melissa, I don't think we can afford to pay for another trashed hotel room. They haven't even released an album yet."
Andy started to go through the kitchen so she could start making dinner for everyone. She was still on the phone and looked at Kara to ask if she was okay. Kara nodded and Andy walked out of the kitchen.
"But look at that location though. Everything happens around nine at night on the weekends. We stay open an extra hour we're able to make up the money we lost." She didn't even see everyone in the living room watching her as she went up the stairs.
"You can't be serious." Shey said under her breath. Ethan shook his head and sighed. They couldn't believe it. She was supposed to be on vacation, yet she was still working.
She came back down stairs, "Send me pictures of the new menus. I wanna give them a look over. No, my email, I'll be able to look at them in detail through my laptop. Send me the numbers too. Also, what are we looking at hiring wise? Oh, also, I plan on flying mom, dad, and Wendy down for mom and dad's anniversary. It would be awesome to celebrate with everyone." She walked back into the kitchen.
"Guys, let's wait until she's done. We leave tomorrow and won't be back for three weeks. I want to enjoy this time we have with her." Brian pointed out and everyone agreed.
"Why is Kara here?" David asked and everyone looked at him with concerned looks.
**********************************************************************
"Okay, just gotta let that simmer for a few and the sauce will be ready." Andy smiled and went over to the counter and began to cut up some vegetables.
"Andy my mouth is watering what are you making?" Kara asked.
"Do you remember the first time Ethan and I cooked for all of you? The seafood frutti di mare?"
"Yes, are you making that?"
Andy smiled and nodded, "Yeah, with some tweaks. I added a few more spices and used a bit of white wine to add some flavor." She sighed, "I miss cooking. Haven't been able to do it in a while."
"This may come off the wrong way, but you do look really comfortable in the kitchen. Like you know what you're doing."
"Believe or not I started as a busser."
"Seriously?"
Andy raised her eyebrows and nodded, "I literally started at the bottom. Busser, host, dishwasher, server, prep cook, then eventually line cook. Took me four years to get on the line. But I got there." She put the cut up vegetables in the hot pan and they sizzled just right. She smiled as she turned down the heat for the sauce.
"Okay! I can't take it anymore! Andy! It smells so good!" Alex said charging in. Andy laughed and started to push him out of the kitchen.
"You out! I'll call when it's ready."
"But.."
"OUT!" She got him out of the kitchen and closed the doors. She shook her head and Kara started to set up the table.
"Actually how about we use the fancy dining room instead. There's more room. Might as well break it in."
"Finally! I wanted to use that table forever ago!" Kara said and Andy laughed. Kara grabbed some plates and walked out of the kitchen. She smiled at everyone and went to the dining room table and started to set it up.
David wanted to stand up and help her but Alex grabbed his arm, "Wait, remember you told me about what Andy said to try and do?" David nodded.
"Okay, since this is for Brian and Angel, wait until tomorrow to give it a try."
Even though David wanted to try now he knew his friend was right. He sat back on the couch and looked at the TV. He wanted to work things out with Kara and he would fight for her no matter how long it took.
Wendy stood up and went into the kitchen. She closed her eyes when she smelled the flavors of dinner spilling out of the doorway. She walked to the counter bar and sat down. She watched her older sister flip the vegetables and smiled. She looked relaxed for the first time since she arrived in Boston. She waited until she put the pan down cleared her throat. Andy turned and smiled.
"Hey, hope you're not wanting a taste test. It's not ready yet." Andy said with a smile and stirred up the sauce.
Wendy smiled and shook her head, "No, I just overheard your conversation on the phone. You're flying us down to Georgia?"
Andy nodded and Wendy sighed, "Andy I can't keep taking days off like this. Clint's getting pissed I've been missing work." Kara walked and Andy smiled.
"Well, Kara here just happens to have a job opening if you're interested." She turned back to the stove and turned down the heat and then checked her timer for the garlic bread.
"What kind of job opening?"
"I'm able to take on an assistant. You'll be based here, but we also do some traveling here and there. Also there's benefits. Paid vacations, guaranteed days off. Once I have some trained up to be here, I'm going to be training with Erika. There's talk of me running a branch here in Boston. Training is going to take about six months. Things work out, I'll have you with me at the new branch." Kara explained and Andy turned and looked at her sister.
"So what do you think?"
"But what about mom and dad? What about Virginia?" Wendy asked. Andy looked at Kara who just nodded.
"I'll look for the serving plates." She walked out of the kitchen and Andy looked at Wendy.
"You know I love Virginia, we spent most of our lives there, but it's never felt like home. I haven't had a place that felt like home in a while. I thought Georgia was it, but it wasn't. I don't even think Boston is it, but I'm gonna give it a try. You've always wanted to explore. We grew up moving around all our lives. Sure we've settled down in Virginia, but you know that there's been something missing."
She went back to check on stove and Kara came back with the serving plates. The timer for the garlic bread went off and she turned off the oven.
Wendy watched as Kara started to help her sister with the garlic bread. She started to think about Kara's offer and what Andy had said. Normally Wendy would be the big sister even though she was the youngest. She always looked out for her. But for the first time in a while she knew Andy was right. It time for a change. Wendy stood up and walked over to her sister.
She rested her head on her shoulder, "I hate it when you're right." Andy laughed and put her arm around her. She kissed the top of her head.
"So I take it you'll be moving up here. You can move in with me, until you find a place."
"Well....." Wendy said slowly. Before Andy could ask her anything Kara came back and asked what was next. Wendy stood back and let Andy and Kara fix up the serving plates.
"Anything I can do?" Wendy asked.
"Uh, yeah, ask what everyone is drinking." Andy said carefully filling up one of the serving plates. Wendy nodded and walked out of the kitchen. She went to the living and asked what everyone wanted to drink. They all told what they wanted and she nodded. She went to the kitchen and started to get the glasses ready.
"Okay last thing," Andy said plating the main course on the plate and topped it with the sauce.
"Did you find serving utensils?" Andy asked and Kara nodded.
"Yup, silverware is all set too. Just need the drinks and we're all set to go."
"Okay, I'm gonna get ahead start on the kitchen. When everyone's ready let me know."
Kara nodded and took the last serving dish to the table. Andy started to do the dishes, and Wendy brought the last of the drinks to the table. Kara announced that the food was ready and Alex jumped up so fast and found his seat with his drink.
They all shook their heads at Alex and they found their drinks to their seats. Wendy did it that way so no one would be forcing Lynn and Andy to sit next to each other. Instead she was on one side of Andy and Ethan on the other. When everyone was seated and ready Kara went into the kitchen to get Andy.
They didn't come back for about five minutes. When they did Kara was practically dragging Andy to the table. She placed Andy at the head of the table and Kara took her seat next between Wendy and Brian.
"Andy at some point I want to see you on that couch staring mindlessly at the TV. You need to stop for a bit." Kara said and everyone agreed.
"I will, I promise. Now let's eat, Alex looks like he's lost his puppy." She said and everyone laughed. She watched as her friends started to chat about the food and how it was nice to have everyone together. It was as if everything was moving in slow motion for her. She was here, with everyone she held close. She watched them laugh, eat, and talk.
Sure she still had a lot going on, but that didn't mean she couldn't relax. She was brought out of her thoughts when Wendy called her name. She looked at her and nodded. Wendy was offering her some food. She placed some on her plate and smiled. She thanked her and she turned her attention back to everyone.
She and Lynn made eye contact and Andy discreetly winked at her. They had to talk. They really did. Andy wanted to make sure she was okay. Lynn wanted to do the same. But they had an agreement. They wouldn't bring up their status to anyone until Andy's birthday. They would explain everything on Andy's birthday.
*********************************************************************
"You've got to be fucking kidding me? There's no way it's going to cost that much." Andy said looking down at the estimate. Brandon sighed and shook his head.
"That's what they told me." He told her and shook her head.
"Let me call my Uncle. He uses a company for his house. They don't charge this much. Maybe we can get a better estimate on the roof. How long has it been like that?"
Brandon shrugged, "Since your friend's wedding. I patched it up as best as I could. But with work and everything else I just didn't have time."
Andy put a hand on his shoulder, "You did good. We'll fix it up."
"Okay thanks," Ethan said walking into the kitchen hanging up his phone.
"So the foundation people are coming today to take a look. They'll give us an idea of what's going on."
"I really don't want to ask my Uncle to use his house. Even though he'll say yes, I want to be able to use our place." Andy said.
"Hey, like you said we'll fix it up." Brandon smiled and pulled her in for a hug, "I'm glad you both are here. I've missed you guys. The house is so empty without you two."
Ethan smiled, "Group hug!" he said and joined the two of them. Andy was glad to be back in Georgia.
The day after Brian and Angel left for their honeymoon. Andy and Ethan caught a plane to Georgia. Wendy went back to Virginia to put in her two weeks and let their parents know that Andy had a surprise for them. They didn't have a choice since the tickets were already bought.
Andy got a hold of Tim and Cathy and told them the plans. They were excited and couldn't wait to meet the rest of Andy's family. Alex said he would join them soon. Justin, David and Lynn would follow right behind him. Alex flew in the day before the celebration whereas Lynn and Justin flew in the day of. They had four days to get the house ready to go. But with the damage from a severe storm Andy was worried it wasn't going to get done in time.
"Knock, knock!" They heard and broke apart. They walked out of the kitchen and Andy smiled seeing Kayla, Addy, Brittany, and Brittany's son Trevor who rushed up to Andy. She picked him and smiled. The three rushed up to her as well and each gave her a hug. They did the same with Ethan and Brittany went over to Brandon and kissed his cheek. He smiled and put his arm around her.
Andy noticed, "So how long has this been going on?" She asked with a smile. Brandon looked at Brittany and she smiled.
"About a year. I didn't tell you when you were here last time, only because it seemed you were going to be leaving soon. I thought Brandon was going to tell you when you two hung out, but he said you had to take off before he could." Brittany explained.
Andy walked up to them and Trevor made a motion for Brandon. Andy smiled and gave Trevor to Brandon, "I was not expecting this. But I couldn't ask for a better person for Brittany."
"Thanks Andy that really means a lot." Brandon said and Andy patted his shoulder. She turned to her other cousins and smiled.
"What's going on with you two? Addy did you quit smoking yet?" They all settled down in the living room and got comfortable.
"Sadly no, it's hard." The young man whined and sat back on the couch.
Andy chuckled and looked at Kayla, "How are you and Zack?"
"Oh wow didn't think you would remember his name. Seeing as you're a famous photographer and all." Kayla joked and Andy threw a small pillow at her and they all laughed.
"All seriousness, we're good. We found an apartment and move next week."
"That's great! I'm so happy for you!" Andy smiled and they all looked at her with looks.
"What?"
"Oh come on Andy we saw the interview. What's with you and Lynn?" Brittany asked. Trevor walked over to Andy and started to talk up a storm. Andy looked up at Brittany and gave her a small smile. She looked over at Ethan. He threw up his hands.
"Hey I'm just as in the dark as you."
There was a knock on the door and Ethan got up to answer it. He opened the door and there stood Shey with a big smile, "HEY! You made it!" He said inviting her in and taking her bag.
"Yeah, I thought I was going to get delayed. Hey everyone I'm Shey!" She said with a bright smile. Andy stood up and introduced her to everyone. She took the bag from Ethan and said she would show Shey to her room.
Kayla stood up and punched Ethan's arm, "Who the fuck is that?! And why are just now meeting her?!"
"Whoa, first ow! Second, they've been best friends long before me. There's nothing going on between them. She's Andy's assistant and she's here to take pictures for everyone. Andy's going to be taking pictures too." He explained.
"The fuck she is! After what you told me on the phone you better hide her fucking camera!" Addy said standing up.
"Guys, guys, calm down. Look, Andy's been stressed enough we just need to help her with this party okay. She's back with us, let's make it count."
"You make sound as if she's dying or something. Is she dying? Is it her heart?!"
"Fuck sake Kayla calm down. I'm sure her heart's fine." He said as Andy came down the stairs on her phone.
"Well I just got in a few hours ago. But my roommate said there was damage right after the storm. I just haven't been able to get up there." They heard her say as she walked outside.
"You know she dresses better. Nice button shirts, nice pants. But she's in Georgia, please tell me she brought shorts." Kayla said watching her cousin outside.
"I'm sure she has, but let's get back to planning this party. By the way Andy wants your mom there." Ethan said looking at Kayla and Addy. They both looked at Brittany and she nodded.
"The only thing is trying to get it by Veronica and dad." Addy said.
"I've got that covered. Andy just mentioned how her mom misses your mom. You know they were close once and of course Andy and Wendy grew up with your mom. No offense Brittany."
Brittany shrugged and waved him off, "None taken, I completely understand. It took all of us a while to warm up to each other."
"ANDY!" They heard and Trevor started running outside. Andy saw him and rushed over to him. She picked him up just as he was about to fall hard onto the concrete.
"Hey buddy what are you doing?" She asked in a calm voice.
"I miss you. Don't leave." He said and Andy told the person on the phone she would have to call him back. Andy held Trevor close and closed her eyes. He wouldn't let go of her and everyone in the house couldn't help but take pictures of the two of them.
"She's gonna make a great mom one day." They heard and saw Shey standing there with a smile. Kayla walked up to her and smiled.
"I understand your my cousin's best friend, but understand that Andy is super in love with Lynn."
Shey looked confused, but nodded, "I understand."
"Just so we're clear." Kayla squinted her eyes at Shey and Ethan came up to them.
"Okay, okay, come on we have to get to the store and get the party stuff. Plus we have to book a few things."
They all gathered their things and walked out of the house. Brittany walked up to Andy, "Hey bud wanna come to mama?"
"No!" Trevor said turning his head away from Brittany. Andy gave her step cousin a small smile and Brittany just smiled and put her arm around her.
"He really missed you last year. After we hung up after our video chats he would cry for hours. I don't think he's gonna let you go all weekend."
Andy smiled, "I missed my buddy. I'll make sure to spend extra time with him. I don't plan on leaving for a few weeks."
"What do you mean?" She asked as they got into the van.
"Okay buddy I gotta put you in your car seat." Andy told Trevor.
"Will you sit next to me?" He asked and Andy smiled getting him settled.
"Sure buddy, I'll sit right next to ya."
Once he was buckled in she got in and sat next to him. Andy was able to rent a mini van for the next couple of weeks. Ethan rented a truck. The van for everyone and the truck for any heavy lifting they had to do before the party.
Brandon got in the driver's seat and Ethan was in the passenger seat. Andy and Brittany were on either side of Trevor, while Addy, Kayla, and Shey were in the back.
"Andy what did you mean you wouldn't be leaving for the next few weeks?" Brittany asked again.
Andy smiled and looked up at her, she turned her body slightly so she could look at her three cousins, "Well let's just say I'm on vacation until further notice."
Kayla sat up, "Wait so you're not gonna dip out on us like the last couple of times?"
"Hold on!" Brandon put the van back in park and turned his seat, "You're gonna stay for a while?"
"So we can have one of our video game nights?!" Addy asked.
Brittany sniffled, "Are you serious?"
Andy nodded, "My agent told me to take off as much time as I wanted. I just have to go to this award thing in London in a few months. Other than that, my only worries are the restaurants, and this gallery I'm gonna open."
Brandon took off his seat belt and got out of the van. He opened Andy's door and grabbed her pulling her into a tight hug, "You have no idea how much this means right now!" Andy laughed and hugged her friend back. He let her go and closed the door. He got back into the driver's seat and put on his seat belt.
Brittany let out a small sob. "Don't cry mama." Trevor said and put his hand on her hers. She smiled and kissed his forehead.
"Oh baby, I'm happy. Aunt Andy staying for a while." Brittany took Andy's hand in hers and smiled through her tears. "This means so much."
Kayla too was wiping away happy tears. Addy had the biggest smile on his face. He was already planning out a video game night with his cousin. He started to talk about snacks, energy drinks, and video games they could play. Andy laughed and told him that she hasn't had an energy drink in about three years. He looked at her as if she went crazy. Andy smiled and shrugged as her phone started to ring.
She reached into her pocket and answered her phone, "Hello? Oh hey! Yeah, we're about to run errands for everything. Send me the list and I'll let you know. No, don't worry about it, I've got it covered. Mom and Dad are gonna be here the day after tomorrow. I think they're leaving two days after the party. They took leave for it. Okay, yeah." She checked her watch.
"I'm hoping to have everything fixed before then, yeah well that estimate was outrageous. I'm gonna call your guys. Okay, okay, will do. Yeah I'll stop in tonight if I have the time. Okay, talk to you soon. Love you too." She hung up her phone and smiled.
"Your dad seems to be worried about this party more than me." She said with a small laugh talking to Kayla and Addy.
"Have you told him or anyone about your time off?" Shey asked and Andy shook her head.
"I figured I would put in a speech and have it as a present for them. After here, I'm gonna to up to Virginia spend my birthday there. See my old coworkers. Plus, I got Michael an autographed picture of Paramore. Also I kind of mentioned to Hayley that Michael plays a mean guitar so if she ever needed him to give me a call and I'll set it up."
"You realize if that happens he's gonna pass out." Brandon said turning into the store's parking lot.
"I plan to try and get that on camera." Andy said with a smile. They all got out of the van when Brandon parked. Trevor took Andy's hand and held on tight. She smiled down at him as they all walked into the store.
"So what's the plan? Where's everyone staying?" Kayla asked.
Andy picked up Trevor and put in shopping cart making sure he was buckled in. Then she started to push the cart, "Well, Ethan, Alex, Justin, Shey, Lynn, and I are gonna be staying at the house along with Brandon. Mom, dad, and Wendy are gonna be staying with your dad. But I think Wendy maybe crashing with us. Cathy, Tim, and David are gonna be staying in the hotel. I bought the rooms, but again, I think David is gonna crash with us."
"It's gonna be tight, but we can move stuff around the living room and we'll have the room for it. I'm still trying to see if we can convert the attic to a bedroom and make the basement a lounge place." Brandon said and Andy nodded.
"What are the room assignments?" Addy asked.
Andy shrugged, "Well I'm giving up my room so I'll be sleeping downstairs. Brandon has the Master. Ethan and Alex will be sharing a room. Justin and Lynn might take the spare room, and Shey and Wendy can take my room."
"Actually I'm gonna be staying with Brittany during the whole thing." Brandon said with a sheepish smile. Andy looked at him and smiled.
"Are you sure?" She asked and he nodded.
"Yeah, so there's an extra room. I knew you were gonna give up your room, cause well it's you. I already packed my bag." He told her with a smile. Andy patted him on the back.
"You're amazing. Thank you." She said with a smile, "By the way, how did you and my step cousin happen?"
They walked down the aisle and he took in a breath and let it out, "To be honest I don't know. She came over one day because I couldn't get a hold of you or Ethan for some bills and I didn't know how to organize things. I mean you know me, sometimes I get overwhelmed with stuff like that. Anyway, she came over and helped me out. She started coming over once a week to go over everything. Then, twice a week because to be honest, I wasn't keeping up with the house work.
Since we opened I've been super busy. So she would come over and we would clean the house and just feelings started happening. I jokingly asked her to dinner as a thank you for everything. After that dinner, I asked her out for real, and the past year she's been amazing."
Andy smiled, "I'm glad to see you both happy. You both deserve it."
He looked at her and put his arm around her, "It's good to have you back."
"Likewise."
They all continued to shop and when the cart was full of what they needed they headed to the checkout line. Ethan came up to her and whispered in her ear. She looked around and when she saw the person she turned back to Ethan and her eyes went wide.
"I thought she was back in Michigan!" She whispered.
"Just keep your head down and hopefully she won't see you! Guys huddle around Andy!" Ethan said and they all got close to Andy. Ethan watched as the person ended up behind them in the checkout line.
"Andy give me your card, you and Brittany head out now with Trevor." He whispered to her and she nodded. She took out her wallet and gave him her credit card. She unbuckled Trevor and picked him up.
"Don't look back whatever you do, don't look back!" He whispered he told Brittany what was going on and told Brandon to give them the keys to the van. Brandon nodded not asking any questions. Brittany took the keys and they excused themselves. Brittany hooked her arm through Andy's and they walked out of the store.
Shey also kept her head down, "Ethan she knows me." She whispered he nodded and told her to go as well. Without question she followed Andy and Brittany out.
"Ethan what's going on?" Kayla asked.
"I'll tell you when we get back to the van."
Kayla nodded and they started to empty out the cart. Ethan wanted to hurry and get out of the store. They filled the cart bag up with their groceries and rushed out of the store. Andy had the back of the van open to help. She saw the others rush out. They made quick work of putting the groceries into the van. On instinct she started to take the cart were all the carts were. That was a mistake because she heard her name and she knew the voice. She pretended she didn't hear anything. She pulled out her phone to pretend to be on a call. She got into the van and told Brandon to go.
When they pulled out of the parking lot Brandon finally asked, "What was that about?"
"Remember me telling you about how I followed an ex to Michigan because I thought I was in love with her?"
"Yeah."
"Well.. that was here behind us in line."
"Wait you mean Ashley?" Addy asked.
Andy turned in her seat and nodded, "Yeah, why?"
Kayla, Addy, and Brittany all exchanged looks.
"What?!"
Brittany cleared her throat and looked at Andy, "Andy I need you to stay calm for what I'm about to tell you."
"Brittany what is it?"
"As of three days ago Ashley became our district manger for Chris. He needed a little help and you weren't around. So he found her resume and he interviewed her. She got the job on the spot. We had no idea. She didn't mention you once. She moved down her a few weeks ago and was trying to find a job." Brittany said.
"But wait, dad has the picture of all us hanging in his restaurant for all the world to see. She would have said something." Kayla said.
"Yeah about that. He had it moved my location. He's been having it rotated every few months or so, because people have been talking about it."
"Um, she's coming to the party to get to know dad's family." Addy said and Andy turned and looked at him as if she wanted to kill him.

"Okay great thank you." Andy said shaking the hand of the nice man that looked at their foundation. She walked into the house and smiled, "Good news, minor damage and he's able to fix it up first thing tomorrow morning. The roof guys will be here tomorrow morning as well. So we're gonna be in for a rude awakening."
Brandon let out a sigh of relief, "I'll take care of everything."
Andy waved him off, "No, I got it. Consider it a thank you for keeping the house in shape."
"Are you sure? I don't mind pitching in."
"Brandon, we practically left you with a house all by yourself. This is the least I could do."
He smiled and gave her a pat on her shoulder, "You're amazing."
She shrugged, "I try." Everyone laughed and there was a knock at the door. They all looked confused and Andy went to the door and looked through the peephole. She quickly opened the door, "Holy shit!" she exclaimed as Alex, Justin, and Lynn walked in.
"What the fuck?!" Ethan said rushing up to Alex giving him a kiss and a hug, "I thought you guys weren't gonna be here for another few days."
Lynn shrugged and smiled, "Well we decided to fly in early and help out where we could." Kayla rushed up to Lynn and gave her a hug.
"It's so good to see you again!" She said pulling away.
"Come on! I wanna hear all about the wedding!" She grabbed Lynn's bag and rushed up the stairs, "Brittany are you coming?!" Brittany shook her head and smiled She went up to Brandon and gave him a small kiss.
"Am I too late?" There was a voice at the door and everyone turned and saw Wendy.
"What are you doing here?!" Andy asked giving her sister a hug.
"Caught an early flight out of Virginia. Wanted to come down early." She gave everyone hugs and Andy told her all the girls were upstairs. She pushed her way through and rushed up the stairs with her bag and Shey behind her. The ones left downstairs all heard screams and Trevor started to cry.
Andy smiled and walked over to him and picked him up, "It's okay buddy, Aunt Kayla, mama, and Aunt Wendy just got excited."
"Aunt Wendy's here?!" He asked looking at her with big eyes.
"Yeah buddy wanna go and see her?"
"YEAH!" He yelled in her ear and started to scramble out of her hold. She laughed and followed him to help him up the stairs.
"Make yourselves at home. I'll be right back!" She called to the guys. Ethan led them to the kitchen and went to the fridge.
"Well let's have some drinks and how about we head out to the deck and talk about the next few days." He said and they all agreed.
Andy was able to pick up Trevor again and she heard laughing coming from her room. She opened knocked on the door and opened it, "Someone wanted to say Hi to Aunt Wendy!"
"Aunt Wendy!" Trevor said going into Wendy's arms.
"Hey buddy I've missed you!"
"You wanna stay up here?" Andy asked touching his cheek and he nodded. She smiled, "Okay, ladies have a good time catching up." She heard laughter outside, "I'll be on the deck with the guys. There's alcohol downstairs in the kitchen enjoy yourselves." Andy smiled and closed the door behind her.
"I really need to know what's going on with you and my cousin." Kayla said looking at Lynn with pleading eyes.
"What's going on with you and Zack?" Lynn asked with a chuckle. Kayla looked at her with wide eyes, "Andy filled me in a while back."
"We're good, we're actually moving in together."
"That's so exciting! I was wondering if you two were gonna do it. I know you were on the fence since your last boyfriend." Wendy said still holding Trevor.
"Yeah but Brittany here has been dating Brandon for a year." Kayla said and Wendy looked at her with wide eyes.
"Excuse me what?" She looked at Brittany and they all started to talk at once.
Meanwhile on the deck the guys and Andy were sitting in the deck chairs enjoying the night air.
"We're just missing David and Brian." Andy said with a sigh and they all nodded.
"So what's going on in the next few days?" Alex asked.
"Well, the repairs on the house start tomorrow, also the guys for the pool are coming to make sure it's cleaned out and ready to go. I gotta pick up the grill and book the bounce houses for the kids. I was able to get one for the adults too."
"Hey, hey!"
"Fuck yes!"
"I will not leave that thing."
"Oh to be young again."
"Get ready for some bouncing!"
She heard all at once. Her phone started to ring and when she looked at the number she got confused.
"Hey, is everything okay? Wait what? I thought you weren't supposed to come in for a couple more days. Yeah, okay, I'll leave right now." She hung up her phone and put her drink down.
"What's up?"
"Well, looks like EVERYONE came in early. Tim, Cathy, David, mom, and dad are all here. They didn't tell me. Addy can you call your dad and let him know mom and dad came in early."
"Yeah sure."
"Want me to come with you?" Ethan asked and Andy nodded, "Okay, let's go." They walked back inside and made sure they had everything. As they rushed out they didn't see the girls coming down the stairs to get some drinks.
They gave each other confused looks and went out onto the deck and saw the rest of the guys, "What's going on?" Brittany asked.
"Well her parents came in early too. Along with your family." Justin said gesturing to Lynn.
"Why is everyone coming in early?" Kayla asked and everyone shrugged.
"Ethan and Andy just left to go and pick them up." Alex said.
"I hate to be the party pooper but I need to get Trevor to bed. I'll be back over tomorrow to help with decorations and stuff." Brittany said. Everyone said their byes to her and Brandon walked her and Trevor out. He told her he would stay the night here since he would be drinking. She understood and gave him a small kiss goodnight. Then he kissed Trevor and walked them to her car. He watched as she drove away and went back inside.
When he came back to the deck the girls were gone and it was just the guys, "So this party is gonna be interesting."
"Why do you say that?" Justin asked.
"So it turns out Andy's ex is gonna be there."
Alex choked on his drink and Justin almost spit his out.
"Which one?" Alex asked after he calmed down.
"The one from Michigan."
"How did this happen?"
"She's our new district manager. We had no idea until today. Since Andy owns three restaurants she has to deal with Ashley every now and then."
"You do realize this is the ex that made her work three jobs." Alex said and Brandon shook his head.
"Well now I do."
"What do you fucking mean Ashley is going to be at the party?!" Wendy asked.
"Wait who's Ashley?" Lynn asked.
"Ashley is the bitch that stole me sister away to Michigan and made her work three jobs!"
"Oh, that ex. I remember now." She said taking a sip of her drink.
"Lynn, I don't care what's going on between you and my sister right now, but you two need to act like a couple for the party. If you thought Vicki and Nicole were bad, Ashley is just as bad. She lead Andy on so bad that Andy spent nearly two years wanting her back until she gave up." Wendy said.
"She doesn't like Shey either." Wendy added.
"Why?" Kayla asked.
Shey shrugged, "Well when Andy moved to Michigan, Ashley overheard a phone conversation her and I had. At the end of it we told each other that we missed each other and we loved each other. Andy later told me that Ashley didn't like it. So one day I was on speaker phone and I heard Ashley's voice. So I just started to say I love you over and over again until Andy told me she left the room."
"But you two were never together." Lynn said and Shey nodded.
"Exactly! We weren't together and she got jealous of the fact that Andy was saying I love you to another girl that wasn't her family."
"This is gonna be some party." Lynn said.
"Girl, who you telling?" Wendy asked and they all laughed.
**********************************************************************
"Jeez mom what did you pack?" Andy asked trying put lift her mom's suitcase.
"You know I had to make sure I had everything." She heard her mom say.
"Don't worry my mom's is the same weight." David said coming over to help her out. When they got all the suitcases into the van they all piled in.
"I can't believe you put this together babe." Andy heard her mom say.
"The least I could do since I've been out of touch for a while."
"Have you been eating? You look skinnier than usual. Ethan is she eating?"
"Mom!"
"Susan, I wasn't with her for a while. You would have to talk to Serenity about that." Ethan said from the backseat putting on his seatbelt.
"Susan it's so good to see you again!" Cathy said with a smile and took hold of Susan's hand.
"It's good to see you too! I'm so happy Andrea included you both! I think this once a year thing isn't going to work. I was thinking about you all coming to Virginia for Thanksgiving this year."
"Oh, that would be lovely! Wouldn't it be honey?" Cathy asked Tim and he smiled.
"Looks like we know what we're doing for Thanksgiving huh Kevin."
Andy's dad chuckled from the front seat, "That we do. So Andrea what's the plan?"
"Well I'm gonna take you and mom to Uncle Chris's place. Then take Cathy, Tim, and David to the hotel. Unless David wants to crash with the rest of us."
"I think I'll crash with you guys. I'm sure you could use some help with the set up." David said with a smile.
"You don't know the half of it. Got a lot of things going on tomorrow. Foundation is getting some minor work done, the roof has to get fixed, and the pool guys are coming to clean out the pool. While all that's going on, I gotta pick up the grill and put it together, then marinate the steaks, ribs, make sure we have enough for everyone. Do you guys want a DJ or a band?"
"What about the band that Chris likes?" Kevin asked.
"Yeah, they're booked already." Andy said taking the exit that would take her to here Uncle's house.
"Is your Aunt Leslie going to be there?" Susan asked.
"I'm not sure mom. I'm gonna try and see her tomorrow. I just have to get it past Uncle Chris and Veronica."
"I hope she comes. I haven't seen her in so long. Cathy you would love her."
Andy smiled at her mom. It's been a while since she's seen her this happy. They continued to have a light conversation until Andy pulled into her Uncle's driveway. She saw him walk out of the garage with a big smile. Andy put the van in park and turned off. Everyone got out of the car. Andy and Ethan opened the back and helped each other take out her parents suitcases. Once they got them out Chris came over and helped them.
He said that tomorrow night for everyone to come over and they'll have a bonfire. Kind of like a pre party type thing. Andy said bye to her parents and they walked into her Uncle's house. When everyone was settled into the van Andy started it up and drove away.
"I can't wait to meet the rest of your family Andy." Tim said with a smile.
"I notice your parents don't call you by your nickname." Cathy said.
"Sometimes they do, but they like Andrea more. My dad says I was kind of named after his oldest brother. He passed away when I was a year old. We're kind of a traditional Southern family. We try to keep family names in our family. Like my dad and my Uncle, their middle names have been in our family for years. My cousin Crystal is named after my dad's mom."
"Interesting." Cathy said.
"Hey is Lynn here?" David asked.
"Yup, so is Alex and Justin. It seemed that everyone just decided to come four days early." Ethan said with a smile.
"Do you need any help for tomorrow?" Cathy asked.
"I could use all the help I could get at this point." Andy said with a sigh.
"Well what time would you like us to be ready?" Tim asked.
"I'm not sure. The workers said they would be coming around seven. It's gonna be chaos tomorrow." Andy said.
"Okay so we'll be ready by eight." Cathy said matter of factly. Andy pulled up to the hotel and parked by the entrance.
She started to get out of the car but Cathy and Tim put a hand on her arm, "It's okay sweetheart, we got this. We'll call you tomorrow when we're ready." Cathy said with a smile. She got out of the van, with David and Ethan.
Tim looked at Andy, "Cathy also wants to be there for your birthday. We want to be there for you and Lynn." He smiled and she nodded.
"Tim, thank you for keeping this under wraps. I really appreciate it."
"Anytime." He smiled and gave her arm gentle squeeze and then got out of the van. David and Ethan got back in the van. Andy made sure the two made in the hotel safe.
"Okay, let's get this party started." David said. The two best friends laughed as Andy started to drive away from the hotel.
The next few days would be hectic but at least she would be with her family and friends. With just one more month to go Andy and Lynn would be able to tell everyone everything. Just one more month and they wouldn't have to keep these secrets anymore.
