OMG!!!!!! A SEQUEL!! ANOTHER ONE! COOL! Lol, this just hit me like, an hour and a half ago and I had to write it up. I’ve been dying to write another. It’s very sweet and sappy and really doesn’t have a point besides giving you a look into the future of Laura and Orlando, year 2012. I hope you all enjoy the second return of The Student
“Mum! Tommy hit me!”
“Ma, Lia won’t give me my ball back!”
“Shut up you stupid wanker! It’s my ball! You’re a guest here!”
I groaned and buried my head in my arms. Beside me, Kat chuckled and decided to take care of the situation. “Honestly. Michael, don’t hit Lia. She’s a girl, you don’t hit girls. Will you two knock it off and go bug your fathers or something?”
I raised my head, knowing I’d have to put in a word or two. “Lia, let him have the ball, you’ve got plenty in the shed.”
The two looked at us with frowns marring their young faces. Lia’s right eye was slowly starting to blacken and Michael’s cheek was already purple. The two hoodlums glared at each other before catching sight of Elijah and ran off.
“I swear, your daughter will be the death of my son.”
I couldn’t help but grin up at Kat. “Not unless he kills her first. You should have known better than suggest they play soccer.” Kat rolled her eyes. “You know, she’s really quite good.”
“So is he, but I didn’t think they’d take me seriously.” She groaned at the thought of soccer. “Honestly, I don’t understand you people’s obsessions with it. It is the most infuriating sport ever! Why couldn’t Sean be a hockey freak?”
“Because hockey is for ponces.” We both turned to look behind us at Sean, who’d managed to sneak by the trouble makers around the yard. He dropped a kiss on Kat’s head before sliding into the bench across the table from us.
I leaned forward, intent on asking something that’d been bugging me for a while. “So, were you planning on producing a son that would torment my daughter for her mortal life? Or was that an accident?”
Kat smacked me on the arm. “He’s my son too ya know.”
I rolled my eyes. “That explains it then. Where’s Dori? I haven’t seen her in a while.”
Kat made a non-commit mental sound and looked around the grassy expanse. An outsider might consider this disinterest in her daughter’s well being but I knew her too well. She knew exactly where Dori was. Right where she’d left her. That girl never went farther than ten steps away from where she decided to plot her butt down with a good book. I caught a glimpse of the infamous butt length straight black hair of my best friend’s child under our huge oak and breathed a little easier.
It was quickly replaced by humor as I noticed that Tobin seemed to have taken a certain interest in the book Dori was reading. He was perched precariously on a branch above her head.
Remembering something, Kat glanced at me sharply. “Did you teach Lia to say Wanker? Because, I swear, if I hear any of my children utter that word when we get home, I’m sending you a big package of dumb ass.”
I gave her an incredulous look. “Do I look like the type of woman who’d use ‘wanker’ in her daily vocabulary.”
“Yes, as a matter of fact, you do.”
“Fair enough. But it wasn’t me. It was probably Elijah, he’s over here long enough.”
Kat groaned. “Is he still trying to be English? How many times will we have to tell him that he’s just American, and nothing more. Eh?”
Sean and I both just shook our heads. From across the yard I caught the eye of my husband, who was talking with some business associates. He seemed to excuse himself from the throng and started to make his way over to us. As he walked, he was tacked from the side by our youngest, David. The two rolled the ground in a pile of gangly limbs and laughing smiles and I grinned watching them.
David had turned out much like his sister and at eight was almost the spitting image of Orlando as a boy. He didn’t have as many scars on his as his father had at that age though, thankfully. He seemed content to spend his time playing with his telescope and his ‘Jr. Scientist’ set. That bothered me none, as you can probably imagine.
A child that doesn’t make a mess, set fires, or get into screaming matches with her siblings. I gave myself a mental smack, remembering that I wasn’t supposed to favor any of my children. Kat gave me a poke. “What are you grinning about?”
“Just thinking about how much of a wild child my eldest is. Last week she attempted to follow in her father’s foot steps and jumped off the roof. She had a trash bag though. Thought it’d make a good parachute.”
“You know, I seem to remember a young lady, about thirteen as well, who attempted a stunt like that when she didn’t know any better.” I shot her an aggravated glare, hoping to just shut her up. Unfortunately, Sean now just had to know what his lovely wife was talking about.
“Well, it goes like this, one day Laura decided that she wanted to be a secret agent. And in order to be a secret agent, you had to be able to parachute. She’d always been afraid of heights and was convinced she needed to get over her fear. So, she fashioned a parachute out of a few trash bags and jumped off the roof. Thankfully it was only a ten foot drop of so. She broke her leg though.”
I frowned, and then smiled, thinking about the memory. “Yeah, my mom wasn’t happy about that one bit. Nearly kicked me out of the house before she broke down in tears and drove me to the hospital crying. My dad went apoplectic though.” We both chuckled at the look on my dad’s face.
From behind me, four arms snaked around me and I found myself in the middle of an Orlando/David mush fest. “Hey guys.” They both let go and David kissed me on the cheek. “Mum, is it all right if I go back inside? I have an experiment right now and I need to check on it.” I nodded and he ran off towards the back door while Orlando straddled the bench behind me. He pulled me back into his arms and nuzzled my cheek lightly.
I sighed and gave into the joy of cuddling with my husband. Kat stayed quiet before giving a disgusted cry as he started to, well sort of suckle. “Get a room you two. Better yet, buy a hotel and reserve it for gross-fests.”
Orlando looked up at her and cocked an eye brow. “Gross fest? Isn’t that what I walked in on yesterday between you and Sean last night?”
Kat turned a very pretty shade of red. Sean merely sputtered. They gave each other a look and walked away. Our laughter followed them and I turned my head to kiss Orlando on the lips. “Mmm, you taste like iced tea.”
He licked his lips. “So I do.”
We stayed like that, watching the commotion going on in the back yard. Lia and Tommy were still chasing each other around. It was actually pretty amusing. They’d kick the ball between the two of them once or twice, playing very civilized, before it’d result in a shoving match. They’d tussle, end up on the ground, freeze and realize where exactly they were, and would spring apart, only to repeat. They were both so close to puberty; we’d have to keep them locked up soon.
“You know, when those two hit puberty, we’re going to have to worry about things like kissing and hand holding.”
I gave him a conspiratorial wink. “You read my mind. Well, at least it’s Sean’s son. You know he’ll be a gentleman around the ladies. Besides, it could be much worse. It could be Dom and Joey’s hellion or something.”
Orlando groaned at the mental image of little Sam trying to kiss his eldest. “Let’s never bring up that possibility again.”
I chuckled and replied, “Deal.”
My gaze started to wander again, settling on the pair over by the tree. Dori and Tobin were an adorable pair. They’d just started to notice each other as potential friends rather than attention stealers. Both were close in age, Tobin only a year and some months older. “You know, if you really think about it, we’re going to have to start watching all the kids in a few years here. I think those two will hit it off as well as teens.” I gestured to the trees and Orlando murmured his agreement in my ear.
It was such a common thing, but it sent a shiver up my spine. He kissed the back of my neck, brushing my hair away from my skin with a careless hand. I shivered slightly, thinking about the night we had ahead of us. While it was sometimes a pain to have extra bodies around, it was also a blessing to live four blocks away from Kat and Sean. They were always more than willing to watch the kids when we needed a night to ourselves.
As he sent another shiver down my spine with those delicious lips, I remembered where we were. “Orlando, not right now. We’re in the middle of the lawn.” He immediately protested, but I silenced him. “Save it for tonight lover boy.”
I moved to rise, but he grabbed my forearms. “Give me a second love, I’m not in the best condition to be talking to other people at the moment, unless it’s you.” He pulled me back against his body and I started laughing immediately as I felt his ‘condition’ against my back. Twining and arm around his neck, I leaned back and claimed his lips. “You’re not helping.”
I grinned wickedly. “I know honey. Oh, I know.”
“Tease.”

“And here’s to Orlando, finally, the man of the hour. The prissiest of the elves. The fairest of the men. And the luckiest bastard known to all. Happy Birthday you wanker!”
There was much clapping as Elijah downed his drink. He hopped off the table and joined the crush around my husband, giving him well wishes and slaps on the back. He took it all like a champ, only giving me a pitiful look once, seemingly begging for my help.
As the mass around him dissipated, either refilling drinks or returning to the rousing game of limbo. I snuck my way up behind him and hugged him tight around the stomach. “Happy Birthday sweetheart.”
He turned in my arms and pulled me close. “Why, thank you darling. It’s kinda scary to be so old, but thank you.”
I scoffed at him. “Thirty five isn’t old honey. It’s a prime age, you’ll see.”
“What would you know? You’re still a young-un.” He brushed his nose against mine and pressed a kiss to my waiting lips. “Are the kids over at Sean and Kat’s?”
I moaned a yes. “Kat took them over about an hour ago.”
He looked around the party then, taking stock of his drunken comrades, business associates, and friends. “Do you think anyone would notice if we slipped out?”
I looked around as well. Most people seemed so happy buzzed and amused that they might not notice a zombie invasion until one of them bit off their arm. I nodded, an old mischievous twinkle in my eye. He grabbed my hand and dragged me out to the front, where a car was already waiting for us.
“Where are we going?”
As we climbed into the backseat, Orlando grinned. “Well, I figured it was high time we had our own little cuddle place. A place we could always escape to and forget about our worries and just enjoy ourselves.”
“And?”
He said nothing, leaning back and nodding to the driver. We drove through downtown Los Angeles and stopped in front of a small, yet swank hotel. He led me to the front doors, laughing at my wide eyes. The door man bowed and ushered us inside. Handing Orlando the key, the door man then made his exit, locking up behind him.
”Orlando, why did he leave?”
“Because, he’s not needed.”
“I know you’re a big Hollywood star honey, but do we really need to reserve a hotel for ourselves?”
“I didn’t reserve it.” He walked over to the elevators and pushed up the up button.
“I don’t understand.”
He winked and entered the car as the doors sprang open. “I bought it.”
I was about to let my jaw drop and start screaming when the doors closed behind him. I could hear the car rambling up and just stood there shocked. A few minutes later, the car was back and opened to reveal my husband, rolling on the floor with laughter. “What do you mean you bought it?!”
Orlando pulled me inside before the doors could close again and plastered me against the wall. “I bought it. Consider it a late ten year anniversary present.” As the doors dinged shut, he kissed me again and whispered, “I’m taking the advice of an old friend. I got a room or two, bought a hotel, and now I intend to have a whole night filled with gross fests.”
