Back in the 'waiting room', Aoi, Uruha and Reita were very much enjoying their coffee - in fact, the three of them had gone back to get seconds already. And while they did that Ruki had his first coffee can. Aoi and Uruha sat opposite each other while Reita and Ruki were the same, just relaxing and quietly chatting. The building didn't seem very bustling but then it was only early - seeing Live Cast really only start in the evening until very late, Kai was one of the early time slots. The bulk of the people who were to be on later hadn't even arrived yet. The guys couldn't actually hear what Kai was talking about because of course he was locked away in a booth but they knew he was having fun ... he always did. Aoi slouched in his chair, crossed his legs and balanced the empty coffee can on his knee while cradling the other one to his mouth.
"I was just thinking ... you have to wonder if the girls would be listening to Kai and then as soon as he finishes, they'll be out of the house and on the road before he can even say 'Goodnight'."
Reita and Uruha snickered quietly to themselves as Aoi bit his lip-ring thoughtfully. Ruki gave a small laugh too before quickly composing himself and clearing his throat.
"Don't be rude, at least they're all nice. If they were hyperactive and impulsive then we wouldn't have agreed to meet them again. Plus you stuck now seeing Mika and I are together ... so you might as well get used to it and get to know Ai-chan".
"Yeah Aoi, she seems just like a female version of you from what I've seen at the after party and during the practice ..."
Reita started. Aoi gave him a death glare, which made Reita pull the collar of his jacket up to hide his face.
"Excuse me? Quit trying to play matchmaker, you were doing enough of that in the car on our way home from the after party. Of course you probably don't remember because you were drunk and half asleep anyway. But as I recall, you suggested that we all 'loosen up and develop relationships with the girls' ... how about letting things occur naturally, hm?"
"That sounds like a better idea. And I actually like Kikyo; she's fun. We both like playing guitar so that's a start ... getting to know them is all part of the plan of finding out if there's anything there anyway".
Uruha said wisely, before finishing his second can of coffee and balancing that can on top of the other one on the little table between him and Aoi. He wasn't going to say anything at that moment but for the first time in a long time, he was actually interested in a girl like Kikyo. He wasn't concerned about the others liking the girls because they showed it ... but he noticed Aoi was being particularly stubborn. It was an age thing - meaning Aoi was on the verge of turning thirty, so chances are he was probably getting 'the talk' from his parents. The 'find a wife and settle down' talk - however Aoi had no desire to rush into any kind of relationship just because his parents want him too. It was the kind of thing he wanted to happen naturally.
"Alright I'll stop playing bloody matchmaker, geez ... but you'll be sorry. You'll fall flat on your face the moment you stumble over your words to say how much you love her-"
Reita flinched when he felt a backhand across his chest, courtesy of Aoi. Uruha and Ruki laughed to themselves when Reita did the same thing back. Aoi would have kept it going but his chest hurt ... Reita's fist wasn't soft. Ruki now looked at his watch as he took another mouthful of coffee - it showed just on twenty minutes past nine. Kai was almost finished and the time had flown. He could imagine Mika started to inch closer and closer to the front door, waiting to leave the moment Kai said goodnight - he thought this because Mika had joked about it earlier that day.
* * *
"Eto ... Ah, I can't believe I forgot. I'll give you a guess as to whose birthday it'll be during our 'Decomp' Tour. In fact there's two of them ... that's right, on the Twentieth of January our guitarist Aoi turns twenty-eight~! I can't believe it! And then shortly after on the First of February Ruki will be twenty-five. It's overwhelming how fast the years are going, and on top of that our band will be five years old this coming March ... geez now I feel old".
The girls giggled when Kai expressed his dislike of saying he felt old. Neither he nor the band were old, it probably just hit home how long they've been around. Maybe Aoi would think he felt old because he was already about twenty-two when the band started but that wasn't the point. Suddenly Ai and Mika gasped and looked to each other slightly panicked. Mika grimaced.
"Oh no, we're going to miss their birthdays~!"
"I know! What are we going to do? Should we sing Happy Birthday at the café?"
Ai suggested, bitting her bottom lip until Megumi giggled and waved a hand at them.
"Don't worry, I don't think they'd be upset if we miss their birthdays. After all, a Tour can't wait for things like that. And I'm sure they understand that too".
Ai and Mika signed, a little disheartened, as they kept listening to Kai.
"In other news, we've had word from the manager of our record label that a new band will be joining our Indie sector some time early next year. I myself can't tell you who they are because I don't know, and even if I did, I wouldn't tell you. They don't call them surprises for nothing, ne? With ScReW only being around for about five seconds so far, I'd say Indie PSC is getting off to a good start".
The girls looked curiously at each other - another new band? They certainly were setting off quickly. Well Kai did it now, the girls were eager to find out ... they just wished Kai knew something. Or maybe he was just hiding that fact? They made a mental note to frisk him about it later.
"Hmm ... there was one last thing I had to mention before my time was up, now where did I put my note ... ah ... Oh, here it is, gommenne!"
A sheepish laugh came from Kira's laptop again.
"I was told during the week that at every venue we stop at during our Tour, the merchandise tables will be set-up outside but I'm sure you already knew that. What I had to inform you about was that the areas where there is snowfall, the tables will be set-up in-doors. So on the day you're attending one of our stops, keep an eye out for where the tables will be. It's just a precaution in case of hazard, you get the idea ..."
"Awww ... merchandise~! Now how can you NOT want to go just to buy some of their stuff?!"
Kira said to Kikyo, gesturing at her laptop. Kikyo pushed Kira's hand down, much as to say 'we'll discuss it later' before Kai went to say his goodbyes.
"Well, I think I'm just about to be kicked off because those on after me are impatiently waiting in the next room ... yeah, I can see you guys waving ... well, I have no idea when I'll next be on Live Cast with the Tour going on. But as usual, just keep watching the timetable. Ja ... Kai deshita!"
With that, there was about a one second silent delay before the next band came on to take up their half hour. The girls just stared at Kira's laptop for a second before they realised it was over. Kira blinked before closing the Live Cast web page and then closing the lid of her laptop. The second she looked up, Mika was hurriedly doing up her coat before standing up and power walking to the front door. Megumi and Kikyo giggled as they too stood up to fetch their shoes. Ai and Kira just shook their heads to each other before following the others. When they got there, Mika was already in her converses and jumping from one foot to the other. Megumi was pulling on her black boots while Kikyo was adjusting her black snow boots.
"Come on, Ai put your shoes on~! Hurry up Kira, your driving remember!"
Mika frisked her friends, clapping her hands at the same time. Ai waved a hand at Mika before bending down to put her own boots on and Kira put on hers. Megumi and Kikyo moved to stand with Mika huddled in the doorway while Ai and Kira just finished. No sooner had Kira pulled her keys from her pocket, but Mika almost ran into the door as she fumbled to turn the handle. While Mika, Megumi, Kikyo and Ai quickly headed for Kira's car, the driver rolled her eyes and made sure the front door was locked.
"Well ... they don't look the least bit excited to be going to see the guys, do they?"
Kira said to herself sarcastically, and she trudged through the thin layer of snow beside her car. Yes she was excited to be seeing Reita again but she wasn't about to show it directly. Again her car was facing to the street so it made for an easy take-off. And with the way the roads were now, with possible rain and ice patches, she was glad her car was a four-wheel drive. Thick tyres meant better grip, but she was going to travel slowly and carefully anyway. Kira slowly pulled out of the driveway and left towards the main road like when they went to the Dome practice. She was going to have to get onto the Highway again. Kikyo leaned forward from the middle backseat to speak with Kira and Mika.
"Say, how long will it take to get to the Suginami area? Mika, Ruki-san said the café was close to their main building, ne?"
Mika turned and nodded before looking back out onto the road. It was certainly very dark now, and the snow-filled clouds made it look even darker. Seeing Kira was concentrating on getting safely onto the Highway she hadn't answered Kikyo yet. But shortly she made her way through the On-ramp and merged onto the almost deserted Highway. Seemed most of the people had the right idea and were staying home. As Kira got up a bit of momentum, she got herself settled into the seat and glanced at Kikyo in the rear-vision mirror.
"Well from here ... I really have no idea, but I'd say roughly between half an hour and forty-five minutes. Luckily being on the Highway, we don't have to worry much about traffic lights".
Mika reached into her coat pocket to squeeze her cell-phone and make sure it was there - just in case the girls thought they might be a bit late. They had no idea where Kai did his radio show so for all they knew, the guys were probably only five minutes away from the café. But there wasn't much could be done about it so Mika cuddled herself and warmed her feet under the heating vents while Kira focused on the road. Ai, Kikyo and Megumi in the back all snuggled down into the new thick woolly seat covers that Kira had bought for her car during the week. The best place to be on an ice-cold night was Kira's SUV. During the trip, the girls chatted quietly while the Gazette's album 'NIL' was playing in the background - and while they talked, each of the girls was thinking about their one favourite band member.
* * *
"Oyasumi Nasai~! Oyasumi nasai~!"
Kai said repeatedly on his way out of the broadcasting booth he was in. And he said it was such a big grin on his face that people would think he'd just won the lottery. All the way back to where his band were sitting, he kept saying goodnight to people. When he finally made it to the waiting area, he found Ruki leaning on his knees and staring at the floor, Uruha and Aoi were conversing softly and Reita slouched in his chair with his head drooped to one side and trying to doze off. Aoi, Uruha and Ruki noticed Kai but Reita hadn't yet. So Kai briskly walked around behind Reita's chair and clapped his heads over Reita's face.
"AHH~! I'm awake, I'm awake~!"
Reita yelled as he sat up quickly, dropping the two empty coffee cans he was holding. He rubbed his eyes firmly and turned around to look dejected at Kai, not really wanting to argue. The other guys laughed as they stood to make themselves ready.
"Come on Reita, I think you need another coffee. Let's head over to the tea-house".
Uruha suggested as he, Aoi and Ruki through their cans into a trash-bin beside the drink machines. Reita yawned widely before picking up his cans, heaving himself out of his chair and throwing them in the bin too. As he trudged along behind the others out to Ruki's car, Reita made a gruff noise in response to needing another coffee.
"I think I'll need that and a smoke while I'm at it ..."
Ruki went straight for the driver's side while Kai once again took up the front passenger. Aoi, Uruha and Reita were once again confined to the back seat. The first thing that Ruki turned on after the ignition was the heating - and on full! Only the short walk from the building to his car sent multiple chills up each of the guy's spines. Though with still at least a good half hour before the girls got to the café, there wasn't much rush for the guys to leave straight away. While Ruki stared at his dashboard and waited for the car to fully heat, Reita leaned forward from the left side of the backseat and cleared his throat.
"So Ruki ... when are you going to invite Mika-chan over to your place?"
"Excuse me?" Ruki said, glancing back at the bassist.
"Oops ... this isn't going to end well", Aoi mumbled as he leaned back against Uruha just in case Ruki threw a fist in Reita's direction.
"Whoa whoa, I didn't mean in that way! I meant so you can just talk alone, you know ... without us around".
Ruki just stared at Reita for a moment, hoping that was all he was suggesting before turning back to the dashboard and turning the heating down. The car seemed to feel like a boiler room at that moment. Kai looked at Ruki and noticed the little blush the singer had just then was starting to fade - Ruki must have thought Reita meant to invite Mika over for some serious alone time. Ruki cleared his throat.
"Well ... I can't until after the Tour because we're already being held prisoner on the one apartment. All I can do for her is talk on the phone, then when we come back I'll see if she wants to ..."
Aoi and Uruha smiled to each other - he was embarrassed. It was probably the last thing he'd wanted his band mates to bring up. To save any more embarrassment, Ruki shifted the gear-stick and pulled out from the curb. Maybe going straight into the Tea House wasn't such a bad idea - then the elderly owner could distract him and the others until the girls arrived. At least the café wasn't far so Ruki would be out the front of the shop in no more than five minutes ... and with hardly any traffic, all the more quicker to get there. During the ride, the guys didn't talk much among themselves because most of the talking that night will be in the Tea House. Even Reita closed his eyes for a bit, even if it would be only a few minutes - he was dying for that coffee and cigarette. Each of the guys really were looking forward to seeing the girls every chance they could now ... Reita especially, even if he was trying to sleep on the way. It was just that comforting feeling that getting to know them would result in possible future relationships - Ruki already started it, so there was no harm in the others trying too. After all, signs of affection were already showing between the two groups ...

NOTES:
1) Second Indie PSC band: I'm sure we all know who they are by now :-)
2) Tea-House after LiveCast: Unlikely the whole band would go and have coffee after Kai's radio, but the occasion calls for it
