"So, do you wanna talk about it?" Carrie asked as they lay stretched out on her bed, Kelly's head using Carrie's stomach as a pillow.
Kelly sighed, "I don't know what her problem is."
"Well, what happened?"
Kelly's eyes closed at the feeling of Carrie's fingers running through her hair, "We were talking. She likes someone."
"No harm there. Who's the lucky guy? Or is that confidential?"
"I don't know," she shrugged. "That's exactly what I asked her, that's when she kinda got upset."
"Who's the lucky guy?" Carrie questioned.
"Yea."
"What did she say?"
"That I was completely clueless."
"Ah."
"And she was being all vague and stuff about the guy, and I asked what the big deal was."
"And she got more upset," Carrie nodded.
"Yep. And said she didn't want to hang out anymore."
"So you called me."
"Yep."
"And upset her even more."
"How'd you know?"
"Lucky guess."
"She said she doesn't want to be friends anymore."
"In those exact words?" Carrie asked curiously.
"Yea, well, no, I mean...I said that there was no need for her to be jealous---"
"You called her jealous?"
"Well yea, she was acting like a little kid."
Carrie nodded with a slight smile as everything clicked, "She didn't like that, huh?"
"No, but I told her there was no need to be jealous because she was still my best friend, and she said that's just it--I don't want to be your friend."
"I don't think she meant it like you took it, Kell."
"That's what she said," Kelly frowned. "Why can't she just say whatever the hell she means, then?"
"I don't know."
"I'm sorry she was rude to you."
"Don't even worry about it. I get it now."
"Get what?"
"Um, nothing."
"What am I supposed to do? My best friend doesn't even want to be my friend anymore."
"Kelly, I'm serious when I say I don't think that she meant for you to take it that way."
"Then how was I supposed to take it?" Kelly asked, turning her head to look at her.
Carrie smiled, cradling her face gently with one hand, "Just don't worry about it."
"How can I not?" she frowned, but felt herself calming as Carrie's thumb stroked her cheek slowly.
"Can I ask you a personal question?"
"Of course."
"What do you feel for Ashley?"
Kelly looked at her curiously, "That's not a personal question. She's my friend."
Carrie nodded, "Yea, thought so."
Kelly smiled, "Wow. You thought Ashley and I were friends? You must be pretty damn intuitive to have seen that."
"Dork," Carrie laughed softly, pushing her face playfully before pulling her hand away.
"So what am I supposed to do?"
"I don't know. I definitely think you need to talk to her. You need to get her to be honest with you about what's going on, otherwise it's not gonna get better."
"Yea."
Carrie smiled at her, "You're a huge cuddler, right?"
"You haven't figured that out yet?"
Carrie laughed sitting up, "Come here."
Kelly crawled up the bed to where she was sitting in between the Oklahoma native's legs.
Carrie wrapped her arms around the shorter girl's stomach. "I'm sorry you had a rough day," she said, resting her chin on Kelly's shoulder.
"Now see, I don't get it. How can she not like you? It's like your mom not liking me. It doesn't make sense. You didn't do anything wrong."
Carrie smiled as she felt Kelly playing with her hands, "I sure as hell don't get why my mom doesn't like you, but I do understand why Ashley may not like me."
"If this is you being self-conscious again, you have to know by now that I'm not gonna stand for that."
"No, it's not that," Carrie shook her head. "This is really something you should talk to her about."
"But if you know why she's so upset, why won't you tell me? It'll make my life a whole lot easier."
Carrie sighed, "It's just not my place. Plus, I could be totally wrong."
"Do you think you're wrong?"
Carrie shook her head.
"You know what I think?"
"Hm?"
"I think you just like keeping secrets from me."
"Sure..." she nodded, noticing the Texan leaning more into her. "Tired?"
"You know whenever I'm comfortable I go to sleep."
"Alright, lay down."
"You're comfortable."
"We'll still cuddle," Carrie laughed.
Kelly laid down on her side, yawning as she felt Carrie lying right behind her.
"Comfortable?" Carrie asked, wrapping an arm around her stomach, pulling her back against her.
Kelly nodded.
"How about I give you a hint?" Carrie offered feeling one of Kelly's hands linking with her own that was lightly pressing against the Texan's stomach.
"Ok."
"This right here, would make Ashley even more jealous."
"But she's not a cuddler," Kelly replied.
"That's not the point, though."
Kelly frowned, "You're starting to be cryptic like her."
"Sorry," Carrie apologized.
Kelly nodded, "This feels really good."
"Yea?"
"We should sleep like this more often."
Carrie laughed softly, "You really do say whatever's on your mind, huh?"
"It just makes life a whole lot simpler."
"You want to make life simpler?"
"Yea."
"Don't tell Ashley that this feels good."
"Ok."
Carrie smiled, "Now, get some sleep. We have rehearsals all day tomorrow."
Kelly grumbled, pulling Carrie's arm tighter around her.

"Hey, where are you going?" Kelly asked as she and Carrie walked out of the choir room, and the taller girl went in the opposite direction of her.
"I have softball practice," Carrie reminded.
"But we have play rehearsals."
"I know. I've been excused. We have a game tomorrow."
"And the play starts this weekend."
"Baby, I'm just a background character. I don't need much rehearsals for that."
"Yea, well...you're a kick ass background character."
Carrie smiled, "Thanks. So, I'll see you after practice."
"I'll walk with you," Kelly shrugged.
"Actually, I think someone wants to talk to you," Carrie nodded over the Texan's shoulder.
Kelly turned to find Ashley waiting for her. She looked back at Carrie with a frown, "Still don't want to tell me why she's been acting crazy lately?"
Carrie laughed, reaching out to pull her into a hug, but froze as she caught Ashley's eye.
"What's wrong?" Kelly asked, confused.
"Nothing," Carrie settled for merely giving her arm a gentle squeeze. "See you after practice?"
"Yea," she smiled.
++++++++
"Hi," Kelly greeted cautiously as she walked up to Ashley.
"Hey," Ashley nodded, her eyes following Carrie as she walked away. "She calls you baby?"
"It's a joke," Kelly laughed softly. "She's just being a nerd."
"Can we talk?"
"Yea."
"I am really sorry about last weekend," Ashley apologized as they slowly walked out of the building.
"You've been saying sorry a lot lately," Kelly noted carefully.
"I know."
"You want to tell me what's been going on?"
"Not really," she admitted softly.
"Ash...come on, it's me. You know you can tell me anything."
"I know it's you; that's what makes this so hard."
Kelly's eyebrows scrunched in confusion.
"I'm sorry I was rude to Carrie."
"She wasn't upset about it," Kelly shrugged. "I think you just surprised her."
"Yea, but from the look on your face, you were pretty upset about it."
"I just don't understand why you don't like her. She's an amazing person, and I think if you gave her the chance, you'd see that."
"I guess you were right."
"About?"
"I was jealous."
Kelly sighed, "I told you there's no need for you to be jealous. You'll always be my best friend...no one's gonna change that."
"Yea..."
"So, what's with the jealousy all of a sudden?"
"I, um, I just...well, I mean, you know, school's almost over, and you'll be moving out to L.A. I'm just gonna miss you and stuff, and then when the new girl showed up--"
"Carrie," Kelly corrected gently.
"When Carrie showed up, you started spending all your time with her, and I just started to miss you sooner than I thought I would have to."
"Aw, Ash...why didn't you tell me? I'm sorry we haven't been hanging out as much. You know how scattered I get. Sometimes you just gotta grab me and be like, 'Come on, we're going to the mall' or something."
"Yea," Ashley nodded.
"So...we're ok now? Everything's good?"
"Everything's good."
"Good," Kelly smiled. "So, I've got to get to play rehearsals, but I'll see you tomorrow at school, alright?"
"Alright."
+++++++++
Kelly smiled as she walked up to Carrie who was sitting in the bleachers, "Good practice?"
"Yep," Carrie smiled back as Kelly sat next to her. "So...how was the talk?"
"It was good."
"Really?"
"Yea."
"Can I ask what y'all talked about?"
"Not much. She said she was sorry for being rude to you, and she admitted to being jealous."
"Of?"
"Of the amount of time I've been hanging out with you. I mean, I see where she's coming from. This is our senior year, and I plan on moving as soon as I have the money. She just wants to hang out while we can."
"Ah," Carrie nodded.
"That's what you thought it was?"
"Yea," Carrie lied, smiling as she wrapped an arm around her, pulling her closer.
"Well, you were right," Kelly smiled.
"Looks like it," Carrie agreed.
"Oh," Kelly's eyes lit up as a guy a few guys entered the gym. "Hey Matt!"
Carrie looked up to see a guy walking towards them with a smile, "Is that the one from the party? The cheerleader?"
"Yea," Kelly nodded as he walked up to them.
"Hey KC," Matt grinned. "How's rehearsals coming?"
"They're going great. You're coming to a show, right?"
"Well, of course. Like I would miss it. This your friend?"
"Yea, Matt...this is Carrie. Carrie...Matt."
"Hey," Carrie smiled, reaching out the hand that wasn't wrapped around the short Texan.
"Hey," he smiled back. "How are you doing? Jeff hasn't been giving you a hard time, has he?"
"I haven't heard from him since the party," she shook her head.
"Good," he nodded. "So, I've heard you've never met a straight cheerleader before."
Kelly laughed.
Carrie pinched her side, "Yea, um, no, actually."
Matt nodded, watching the way they interacted with a slight smile, "Well, I'm glad I could be your first."
"And how many times have you said that line?" Kelly teased.
Matt grinned, teasingly, "Ah, you know the only I want to use it on is you."
"Shut up," Kelly pushed him, playfully. "You're such a butthead."
"You know I'm just messing with you."
"Yea, you're lucky I think you're manwhoreness is funny."
"She never takes me seriously," Matt looked at Carrie, shaking his head.
Carrie laughed, "I've yet to find anything she takes seriously."
"I take music seriously," Kelly turned to her.
Carrie smiled softly, noticing the couple of light freckles on her nose, "That's true. You do. But anything besides that..."
"Nope," Matt agreed, smiling as they turned back to him. "So, I've got to go. I'm going work out with a couple guys. See y'all later."
"Bye Matt," Kelly smiled, waving as he turned, walking back down the bleachers.
"I like him. He's nice," Carrie nodded. "There should be more guys like him..."
"And less like Jeff," Kelly finished her thought for her.
"Yea," Carrie replied, patting the shorter girl's hip with her hand that was resting there. "So, rehearsals are finished for the day?"
"Yep."
"Need a ride to work?"
"Duh," Kelly laughed.
+++++++++
Ashley and Mary laughed as Kelly paced the make-up area nervously.
"It's not funny," Kelly frowned.
Carrie smiled, "It kinda is."
"I think it's hilarious," Mary smiled.
"We told you, you shouldn't have waited so long," Ashley pointed out.
"I can't kiss him," Kelly squeaked.
"It's just a kiss," Mary teased.
"What if I suck at it? What if he just stops and starts laughing at me in the middle of the play?"
"This is why most people tend to have their first kiss before their senior year in high school," Ashley commented.
"Guys!" Kelly exclaimed nervously.
"Kelly..." Carrie said, getting her attention.
The short Texan looked at her hopelessly.
"You're not gonna suck," Carrie looked her in the eye.
"Promise."
"I promise," she nodded.
Kelly bit her bottom before shaking her head, "I can't do this."
"Ugh," Carrie groaned, sitting in the chair.
"Well, you're going to have to," Mary replied. "And you need to get changed. So go," she said, handing her the dress.
Kelly continued to chew on her bottom lip before turning back to Carrie, "Help me?"
"What?" her eyes grew wide.
"Um, the corset thingy, I have trouble with it. Come help me?" she looked at her pleadingly.
"Oh, um, ok," Carrie nodded, following her into the small dressing room, ignoring the way Ashley's gaze was following the pair of them.
"Care, I can't do this," Kelly fussed in a whisper as Carrie turned to give her privacy so she could change.
"Yes, you can," Carrie assured her. "It is just a kiss. You can do this. Don't make a big deal out of it."
"But it is a big deal."
Carrie turned around at the feeling of Kelly's hand on her shoulder, "Need help?"
Kelly nodded, turning, allowing the other blonde to lace up the back of her dress for her.
"You look great. There's nothing for you to worry about."
"It's not how I look that I'm worried about."
"Kelly..."
"Kiss me," Kelly turned around to face her.
"Huh? Now?" Carrie asked, confused.
"Please, just...kiss me. Remind me there's nothing to be worried about?" Kelly looked at her hopefully.
Carrie took a nervous breath before stepping forward, taking the shorter girl's face in her hands and kissing her. She felt Kelly's hands fall to her waist as she began to kiss her back. Her head spun as she slowly pulled back, "See...nothing to worry about."
Kelly's eyes were glued to the other girl's lips.
Carrie tilted Kelly's head up, forcing her to look her in the eye. She could see a long list of questions running through them, and realized that maybe she had over done it--the kisses in the play weren't supposed to be more than a light peck. She stroked Kelly's cheek softly with her thumb as she leaned closer again, slower this time. Carrie pressed their lips together gently, barely capturing the Texan's bottom lip in between her own before pulling away.
Kelly's eyes opened slowly to look at the hazel ones that were studying her face.
"There's nothing for you to worry about," Carrie said, honestly, the feel of her lips against her own, very much lingering.
Kelly nodded, still feeling slightly dizzy.
"Good," Carrie gave a soft smile, her hands letting go of the shorter blonde. "Now, come on. They're gonna have to touch up your hair a bit. The dress messed it up a little in the back."
Kelly nodded again, allowing Carrie to take her by the hand, guiding her out of the small dressing room.
++++++++
Carrie bit her lip nervously as she watched from the side of the stage as Kelly acted out her part of the scene perfectly. The male lead reached out, taking Kelly's waist in his hands and leaned forward, pressing their lips together firmly. She noticed the Texan stiffen, and Carrie waited for her to relax like she did when she was kissing her, but she didn't until after the boy had pulled away with a huge smile on his face, continuing the scene. Well, at least she didn't turn her head like she'd been doing in rehearsals, Carrie thought to herself watching as Kelly finished the scene without any problems.
