AN: I’m Yours is my current favorite song. I’ve been driving my house nuts, keeping it on repeat at full volume.
Criss woke up with Cassandra curled close to him. He lay in the stillness of the early morning, listening to the sound of her breathing. What the hell was he going to do? She stirred and he cupped the back of her head, his fingers massaging her scalp in an attempt to soothe her.
It didn’t work. She woke, her eyes blurry and her tongue thick. Criss locked eyes with her, and they spent a few seconds just looking at one another.
“So what do we do now?” she asked softly. Criss could only shake his head and shrug. He gathered her closer.
He didn’t want to think about that question. He didn’t want to think that there could be an answer other than they stayed just the way they were forever. Cassandra pressed into him, obviously happy to be there in his arms.
“I wish that I could protect you.”
“From what?” she lifted her head. Criss smoothed her sleep tousled hair before he continued talking.
“From everything that’s going to happen. I’m famous, Cass. We can’t outrun that.”
“But… You love me. You said you did.” Her lower lip trembled, and he pressed a finger against it.
“And I do. I just want you to know that this is going to be a long and hard battle. I just want you to be sure that I’m worth it. That’s all.”
“You’re worth it.” Cass laid her head back down over his heartbeat. “Criss, you’re the only person who’s seen me for me. You’re the only one who hasn’t tried to live my life for me. You’re the only one--.” She stopped short and shook her head.
“None of that matters. All that matters is that I’m here with you, okay?”
**
Criss slipped his hand into her’s as they once again mounted the steps to his mother’s porch. Cassandra nervously bit at her lower lip.
“Now she won’t like me.”
“Why not? She liked you before. Hell, she LOVED you before.” Criss rolled his eyes as they waited for Dimitra to come in from the kitchen.
“But mother’s never like the girls that date their sons. Never.” She bit down hard on her lip.
“Stop that,” Criss tapped her mouth. “And you know my mother isn’t like other mothers. Give her a chance, Cass. You have to be fair.”
“But what if--,”
“Hush,” Criss said as the door opened. “Hi, Mom!” he didn’t bother to drop her hand.
Of course, the first thing that she noticed was the way her son was holding onto the girl. She glanced at Cassandra’s face, at the pinkness in her cheeks, at the smile and sparkle in her son’s eyes…
And burst into a huge grin.
“Thank God!” she threw her arms first around Criss and then Cass. She hugged Cass extra hard.
“What?” the girl blinked when she was released. She threw her employer a look. He could only shrug as they were ushered in. They sat on the couch as Dimitra bustled around happily.
“I knew it from the first second I saw you two in the same room together! I just knew it. And then it was taking you two so long, so I didn’t think that it would happen, but I just kept hoping. You two are perfect for each other.” She set down cups of coffee.
“What?” Cassandra repeated stupidly.
“Told you,” Criss mumbled to her as she presented them with a plate of cookies and happily sat across from them on the armchair.

The camera crews were setting up. Cass sat stiffly on a chair, petting Hammie. Criss patted her on top of the head as he walked by.
“No need to be nervous. You do just fine on stage.”
“That’s not what the problem is.” She didn’t meet him in the eye. Criss stopped and looked at her, concerned.
“What is it?”
“Just… Don’t worry about it. Let’s just get through this.” She put the cat on the floor and walked into the bathroom to get do her hair, trying not to taste the bile rising up in the back of her throat.
This was so not going to end well.
