++++++++++
Kelly rubbed the back of her neck as she walked into her hotel room after having called the rest of her band to inform them that the tour was cancelled. She froze when she found Kate standing there in a bikini with a towel around her waist. "Is it Christmas already?"
"No, why?"
"So I don't get to unwrap?"
Kate laughed, tossing her swimsuit at her, "Get changed. We're going swimming."
"Where'd you find this?" Kelly asked curiously, picking up the top piece of her bikini she had dropped.
"Well, I checked your suitcase, but that was empty which I should've known because you hate suitcases, so I dug through the drawers."
"You dug through my drawers?" Kelly raised an eyebrow.
"Yea,"Kate shrugged.
"And you had no problem doing so?"
"I was looking for your swimsuit," Kate reminded.
"But..." Kelly looked down at the swimsuit in her hand, slightly confused. She looked back up at Kate. "I'm Kelly Clarkson."
"And I'm Kate Rapier," Kate nodded. "I believe we went through these introductions a long time ago."
Kelly smiled, shaking her head, "You know, I really like you."
"So you keep telling me." Kate fought back a smirk, "Your swimsuit was in your underwear drawer, by the way."
"I know," Kelly nodded. "I'm the one that put it there."
"So, then you put the sexy lingere in there too?"
Kelly felt her cheeks start to burn.
"I made you blush!" Kate squealed, bouncing excitedly.
"Shh..." Kelly laughed. "People are probably sleeping by now."
Kate grinned, her voice softening, "I made you blush."
"You made me blush," Kelly smiled. "So why are we going swimming?"
"I know today has been hard on you, and I know you're probably way too tense right now to try and sleep, so I figured you could use a little time to relax and have fun."
"But it's nearly midnight. I'm sure the pool is closed by now."
"It is. I called the front desk to see, and at first they were like the pool closes at ten, but I guess they have caller i.d. or something and saw the room number because all of a sudden they were like, 'Oh, Miss Clarkson, I'm sorry, we can open the pool for you, no problem. Feel free to swim however long you like. You know, we also have a round the clock masseuse we could call up if you would like...free of charge of course.' It made laugh."
"Yea, it's funny how people can be," Kelly agreed.
"I know, I mean, I sound nothing like you. How I could be confused for a short, fast-talking Texan is beyond me."
Kelly laughed to herself, "You are seriously unlike anyone I've ever met."
"Why?"
"What you found amusing is not what other people would've found amusing."
"No?"
"No, they would be more amused at the affect my name tends to have," Kelly frowned slightly.
"Oh, no, that amused me too."
"Actually, amused isn't the right word...more like enlightened."
"Enlightened?"
"Why did you find it amusing?" Kelly asked curiously.
"Because I thought it was silly how much a name can change things. Then I thought of all the damage I'm gonna do with my name once Jill and I are world-wide super stars," she grinned.
Kelly smiled again, "Why wait till then?"
"Because I'm not famous yet," Kate looked at her, confused.
"But I am."
"So?"
Kelly laughed.
Kate's eyes widened in realization, "Enlightened...you mean, they use your name to get stuff..."
"Yea," Kelly nodded.
"Oh...Kelly, I'm sorry, I swear I didn't mean to do that, I was just...I didn't even mention you, they just assumed..."
"No, no," Kelly stepped towards her, placing a hand on her arm. "It's ok, I know. Trust me, I am nowhere even close to being upset with you. I'm just...I love how you are constantly reminding me, without even realizing it, why I love having you around so much."
Kate smiled, "You love having me around."
"I do."
"And you're sure it's not just because I look good in a bikini?" she teased, playfully.
"I'm sure...although that is a definite perk," Kelly fought to keep her eyes on the taller girl's face.
Kate giggled, "Well, why don't you go change, then? Because while you definitely look better in a pair of jeans than anyone I've ever seen, we're not exactly even in the perk department."
Kelly rolled her eyes as she turned to walk towards the bathroom.
"Don't you roll your eyes at me. You look great half-naked, and you know it."
Kelly turned back to her with a raised eyebrow.
"I mean..." Kate blushed. "You know what meant, now go."
Kelly laughed as she walked into the bathroom to change.
++++++++++++
"So..." Kelly smiled as she treaded the water. "You're gonna be a full on diva when you become famous?"
"Nah," Kate shook her head, watching her, amused.
"Changed your mind?"
"Yea, I thought about it and realized that if I did, you'd either kick my ass or stop talking to me, and neither of those things appeal to me, so I nixed that idea real quick."
Kelly laughed, sputtering as she choked on the water.
Kate reached out, holding her up by her elbows.
Kelly's hands held onto the blonde's forearms as she looked at her confused.
"What?"
"Are you seriously standing flat footed?"
"Yea."
"How freaking tall are you?"
Kate laughed, "You're just really short."
"No, I'm pretty sure if I were of average height, you'd still be tall," Kelly nodded.
"Probably," she smiled.
"Did you play sports in high school?"
"I did basketball for a little bit, but I wasn't very good at it."
"No?"
"I wasn't aggressive enough."
Kelly smiled, "My gentle giant."
Kate laughed loudly, "Shut up. I'm just a giant to you because you're a midget."
Kelly giggled, "What else did you play?"
"I played tennis my senior year."
"Oh yea? Did you like that better?"
"Much more my speed," she nodded. "Non of that pushing and shoving mess. I actually find it very relaxing. Have you ever played?"
"I'm a midget, remember?"
"You don't have to be tall to play."
"No, but I'm sure it helps to be taller than the net."
"You're taller than the net," Kate laughed. "You should play with me sometime."
Kelly grinned.
"Tennis...you should play tennis with me sometime," Kate corrected.
"Sure...that's what you meant..."
"Shush," Kate blushed.
"You so wanna play with me," Kelly's eyes danced as she pushed herself up against Kate's arms, bringing them face to face.
"I will let you drown."
"But you're my gentle giant," Kelly reminded with a pout. "You'd never harm me."
"Technically, I wouldn't be the one harming you--the water would."
Kelly's pout deepened.
"Alright," she sighed. "I won't let the water harm you, either."
Kelly smiled, kissing her cheek.
Kate laughed softly.
"Am I getting heavy?"
"We're in the water, you weigh like two pounds," Kate replied, feeling Kelly's hands start to shake as they pressed against her arms. "Put your arms around my neck," she instructed.
Kelly did as she was told, taking in a surprised breath at the feeling of Kate's hands on the back of her thighs, picking her up. She wrapped her legs around the taller girl's waist, relaxing.
"I've always found it funny how it's so much easier to hold someone else up than it is to hold yourself up," Kate noted.
"Now that's some deep shit, right there."
Kate laughed, "No, I meant, literally. I guess it's because when you're holding someone else, you're using your entire body, but when you're holding yourself, you're using just your arms, maybe."
"Probably so," Kelly nodded, scanning her face slowly.
"What?"
"You are really pretty."
Kate felt herself blushing again, "I swear you say stuff like that just to make me blush."
"No, it just catches me off guard sometimes just how beautiful you are."
Kate smiled softly.
Kelly quickly looked away, feeling her face burning, "So, um...what else did you do in high school?"
Kate kissed her cheek lightly.
"What was that for?" Kelly asked, turning back to her.
"Just because," she shrugged.
Kelly felt her ears starting to burn as well as she looked down at the water.
"You know..." Kate said gently. "Of all the different sides of you that I've gotten to know, I think vulnerable you is the one I like the best."
"I don't like being vulnerable," Kelly admitted.
"I know."
"It's hard."
"I know," she nodded.
"But I...I trust you," Kelly looked back up at her.
"I know," Kate offered a smile.
Kelly nodded, letting out a deep breath.
Kate tilted her head up, kissing her forehead.
"Thank you for this," she whispered softly. "I really needed it."
"Well, I'm glad I could help," Kate rubbed her back. "Are you ready to call it a night?"
"I'd actually rather stay here and talk to you...that is, if you don't mind getting all pruny with me."
Kate shook her head, "I don't mind at all."
Kelly smiled, running her nails along the skin just below her neck, "Cool...so tell me more about my gentle giant and how she grew up to be a rock star."
Kate laughed, "Well..."
++++++++++++
Kelly yawned as she stretched, slowly waking up. Her toes brushed against something, and she wiggled under the covers a little more, using her foot to hook whatever it was. She smiled as she pulled out the pair of short shorts that Kate must've kicked off sometime during the night. She looked around the hotel room, pouting when she found it empty, realizing she missed watching the tall blonde get out of bed. She picked up the note that was left on Kate's pillow, laughing softly at the smiley face on it as she unfolded it.
"Hey," she read outloud, smiling softly at Kate's neat script. "I know how much you hate hotels, so I figured you probably weren't on board the hotel food bandwagon either, so I went out on the hunt for a decent breakfast. I hope you slept well. Did you know you snore sometimes? Not loud or anything. It was really soft, and kind of cute, actually. Anyways, I'll be back soon. Try not to get into too much trouble without me. --Kate."
Kelly looked up as the door connecting their room to Ashley and Jill's opened.
"Hey," Ashley greeted.
"Hey," Kelly replied.
"Where's Kate?" Ashley glanced at the bed curiously.
"She went find something better than hotel food for us to eat," Kelly held up the note in her hand.
"Did she remember to put pants on before she left?" Ashley eyed the pair of shorts on the bed as she closed the door behind her.
Kelly quickly grabbed the shorts, tossing them towards Kate's suitcase, "It's not like that."
"I know."
"She just likes to make sure I'm taken care of."
"So I've noticed," Ashley hid her frown as she sat on the foot of the bed. "Since when do you let someone take care of you? You hate that."
"I don't hate being taken care of," Kelly shook her head. "I just hate when people assume that I can't take care of myself."
Ashley raised an eyebrow.
"If me eating a decent meal is what's going to make her happy, then why not do it? It definitely makes her one of the easiest people to please, ever."
"You're still cross with me," she noted.
"Of course I'm cross with you," Kelly laughed softly. "I just woke up. I'm cross with everybody right now."
"True."
"I am sorry that I snapped at you yesterday."
"I was out of line," Ashley shook her head.
"I'm still sorry, though."
"I was just caught off guard by your 'better than thou' moment, and was trying to make Jill feel better."
"Better than thou?"
"Your whole, 'I can't believe you cheated' thing."
"How is that better than thou? I was just saying that I couldn't believe it. I mean, I know how much she cares about Meghan, I've seen it with my own two eyes how much that girl means to her, so I was in serious shock that Jill would do something that would hurt her."
"People make mistakes."
"I know; that doesn't mean I can't be surprised, though. Jill knew what I meant by it. She knows I wasn't judging her or anything like that."
"I know...I'm sorry I was such a bitch."
Kelly nodded.
"So what all did you do yesterday that you managed to completely avoid me?" Ashley questioned teasingly.
"I cancelled the tour."
Ashley's eyes widened, "What?"
"I cancelled the tour," she repeated.
"What...but why...are you ok?" Ashley scooted closer to her.
"I'm fine," Kelly waved her off. "It's done; I've dealt with it; time to move on."
"How can you be fine? You just cancelled your tour."
"I cancelled it yesterday afternoon, and turns out Kate's really good at this taking care of me thing."
"Yea?"
"She got them to open the pool for me last night so we went for a swim and just relaxed and talked and enjoyed each other's company...then we came back here, and she let me cry my eyes out as she held me."
"I wish you would've told me about this yesterday while it was happening," Ashley sighed. "You normally talk to me even when I've pissed you off."
"That's because you're normally the only person around that I can talk to," Kelly pointed out.
"Yea...that's gonna take some getting used to."
"You ok?"
"Yea, I guess...it's just harder when it's a girl than a guy. A girl almost makes it feel like I'm being replaced."
"Aw, Ash..." Kelly held her arms open, pulling her best friend into a tight hug. "I could never replace you."
"Well, I know that...I'm just making sure that you know that," she smiled, pulling back.
Kelly laughed.
"And I am really glad that you have someone else that you feel like you can turn to," Ashley nodded. "I don't want you to think otherwise because it's always good to know you have people there for you, and the more the better."
They both turned at the sound of the hotel room door opening.
"Food's here," Kate announced walking in, smiling when she noticed Ashley. "Hey, plenty to go around. Why don't you go grab Jill and Jason and tell them?"
"Sure," Ashley agreed before getting up and walking out of the room.
"What have you got?" Kelly smiled as Kate placed the bags of food on the bed before climbing on beside her.
"A little of everything. I found this great little diner where everything is made from scratch. We've got eggs and bacon and biscuits and pancakes and pretty much everything under the sun," she grinned as she started pulling out food.
Kelly laughed softly.
Kate wrapped an arm around her, kissing the top of her head, "Slept good?"
"Yea, thanks for everything."
"No problem," she assured, patting her hip.
"Only, can you do me a favor?"
"Of course."
"That's the second time I woke up thinking you'd be there, and you weren't...can we not do that again?"
"Alright," Kate smiled, giving her a gentle squeeze. "Although yesterday wasn't my fault, and today I woke up to your stomach growling like crazy."
"Yea, I never really pegged you for the love 'em and leave 'em type, anyway."
"No, that's you. I'm much more the love 'em and propose to 'em type," she winked.
Kelly laughed, "Speaking of, I'm still waiting for my proposal. My poor grandma would roll over in her grave if she knew I was shacking up with someone without a ring on my finger."
"I didn't know your grandma was dead."
"She's not."
Kate laughed, nudging her with her shoulder.
Kelly giggled.
"Well, we can't have her turning over in her grave, so..." Kate pushed her straw out of its paper wrapping, pushing it into her juice before turning to Kelly and taking her hand. "This will have to do for now."
Kelly grinned as Kate tied the straw wrapper around her ring finger.
"There you go."
"It's beautiful," Kelly held her hand out in front of her in mock awe.
"I spent my entire life's savings on it," Kate nodded. "But nothing but the best for my girl."
"You know what this means, don't you?" Kelly looked at her.
"No, what?"
"That I can totally have my way with you, and dear old Granny will approve," she pushed her back on the bed.
"Well as long as we have Granny's approval," Kate giggled as Kelly hovered over her.
Kelly bit her bottom lip, her eyes slowly moving over the other girl's face.
"Didn't think this one through?" Kate smiled.
"I didn't think it'd take this long for Ashley to get them."
"You were looking for them to walk in on us?"
"I was looking for a reason not to kiss you."
"You would think that if you wanted to not kiss me so badly then you wouldn't put us in these predicaments in the first place."
"Are you teasing me?" Kelly raised an eyebrow at the playfulness in her voice.
Kate nodded.
"What am I gonna do with you?"
"I could think of a few things."
"You stole my line."
"You stole my second guessing," she countered.
"Or maybe this is just a part of my plan to get you to grow some confidence and make you stop second guessing..."
Kate cocked her head, considering the Texan's words.
Kelly smirked.
"Is that what you're doing?"
Kelly shrugged, lowering herself a little.
Kate swallowed hard, "They're taking a really long time."
"I'm losing you," Kelly smiled.
"I'm still here."
"You're second guessing," she rested on her elbows, their bodies barely touching.
"I'm still h-here."
Kelly tilted her head up, pressing her lips firmly against the blonde's forehead.
Kate took in a shaky breath, her hands holding onto the Texan's waist.
"You ok?"
She nodded.
Kelly left a light kiss against her skin before pulling back with a soft smile. She sat up at the sound of the door to the room opening, pulling Kate up with her before climbing off her lap and sitting beside her.
Kate smiled as Kelly handed her a fork, "Thanks."
"Yea, well, hopefully you'll return the favor one day," Kelly winked.
Kate blushed, ducking her head as Jason walked in, followed by Ashley and Jill.
"Food!" Jason cheered, jumping on the bed.
"Took you long enough," Kelly started to pass out the food.
"Didn't see the need to rush," Ashley smiled at Kate's pink cheeks, turning to Kelly, glancing at the straw wrapper on her finger
Kelly wiggled her eyebrows, grinning as she took a bite of eggs.
++++++++++
"So what are we doing?" Kate asked with a yawn as they walked across the parking lot.
"Rehearsing," Kelly reminded.
"In Nashville?"
"Yep."
"For?"
Kelly turned to her brother.
"In the immediate future? We have the Nissan thing in a couple days," he explained. "But there's some more promo coming up as we get closer to the release date."
"Why do we have to rehearse?" Kate rubbed her eyes.
"Because the string and horn section will be joining us," Kelly answered. "So we need to get all the arrangements and stuff together. Plus, I figure it'd be a good time to play a little with your harmonies since Angela's gone."
"She's gone?"
"She hasn't been here since before Idol."
"Really?"
"Did you not notice there was no one on the other side of you for that performance?"
"She was too distracted by that outfit you had on," Jill replied.
Kate blushed as she narrowed her eyes.
Kelly laughed, "One of the reasons why I hired the two of you was because Angela's contract was coming up, and I knew she wanted to go on to bigger and better things, so I'd need two new backupsingers and not just one. And now that she is gone, we get to play around with y'all, which is another reason why I hired y'all...y'alls harmonies are ridic."
Kate smiled tiredly, wrapping a loose arm around her.
"We need to get some caffiene in you."
"Well, if someone wouldn't want to go swimming at one in the morning..."
"That was totally your idea."
"Oh..."
"You know, if you can barely handle one late night, I don't think you're cut out for the rockstar life," Kelly teased.
"Since when does playing scrabble every night constitute as the rockstar life?" Ashley questioned.
Kate laughed.
"Be quiet, or I'll give you all the high parts of the harmony."
"I can handle that."
"Now maybe...but what about when we go on tour and you're singing it every night, night after night for weeks..."
"You wouldn't..."
"I would."
"You can't."
"I'm the boss."
"Yea right, in your dreams."
Kelly stopped, raising an eyebrow at her.
"Ok, so maybe you are the boss...please don't make me sing all the high parts."
Kelly laughed, wrapping an arm around her and pulling her down so she could kiss her cheek.
Kate giggled.
"Well, now we all know what you got to do to get the part you want," Jill teased. "I mean, if I had known it was as easy as sleeping with the boss..."
Kate turned at the feeling of Kelly stiffening in her arms. "Please, don't let it bother you..." she whispered, her lips brushing her temple. "It's just a joke."
Jill held her hands up in innocense as Kate glared at her, "What?"
"I'll be right there," Kelly paused as they reached the front door of the rehearsal space.
Jason nodded, holding the door open for Ashley and Jill. He looked at Kate who shook her head. He shrugged, following the other two inside, letting the door close behind him.
"You're letting it bother you," Kate turned to face Kelly.
"I'm trying not to."
"Anything I can do?"
"Do you think we should tone it down in there?"
"Tone what down?"
"The flirting."
"What flirting?"
"Kate."
"Well, it's not like I do it on purpose. I just am how I am with you, if that's flirting then, well...I don't know, we can just not talk and try and keep a good twenty feet away from each other."
Kelly smirked, "You'd still undress me with your eyes like you always do."
Kate's eye widened, "Do not!"
Kelly laughed, "Wow, I was just joking, but that was a pretty quick protest, girl...is there something you want to tell me?"
"Yes."
"Yes?"
"I so prefer nonbusiness mode Kelly to business mode Kelly."
Kelly smiled, stepping to her as Kate pulled her into a light hug, "Me too...but once rehearsals start, I gotta get back into business mode."
"I know, at least you're still kinda cool in business mode. I mean, your business mode is probably most boss's relaxed mode."
Kelly laughed softly.
"I guess I'm just spoiled to your relaxed mode," Kate noted thoughtfully as Kelly rested her head just under her chin. "And why can't we be like this in there?" she asked, her eyes closing as she wrapped her arms around her a little tighter.
"Because we're adding the horn and string section which means there will be people that we don't know and that don't know us and that don't know..."
"About you," Kate finished for her.
"Yea."
"Remind me why they're still here if the tour was cancelled?"
"Because I was still going to pay them for the summer since it's probably too late for them to get another gig, definitely too late to get one like we offered, so I figured why not have them come play with us for promo, since I'm paying them anyway."
"Why'd you ask them out on tour to begin with?"
"What do you mean?" Kelly asked, pulling back just enough so that she could look up at her.
"Well, they don't know you...that would've meant a whole summer of you trying to hide it from the people that you are surrounded by, which is pretty much what you did last summer, and I don't remember that one ending too well."
"Yes, and if you remember the horn and string section weren't my idea."
"Jeff..." Kate nodded. "So it wasn't just the fact that you didn't want some big production for the show..."
"I just wanted to be able to go out with my band, and be myself, and get to relax and have fun."
"Well, at least you'll get to do that for the rescheduled tour."
"Yea, but until then..." she looked at her regretfully.
Kate pulled her into another hug.
"Kate..."
"Unless they're all superman, they can't see through the walls, so shush."
Kelly laughed softly.
"I'm sorry about earlier, the whole you aren't the boss thing. I was kinda out of line."
"It's ok."
"I guess because I'm around you all the time, work time and play time just sort of blend together."
"Play time? I like that..."
Kate laughed, "You know what I meant."
"I know what my mind went to when you said that."
"I meant it's easy to forget that when we're here that means this is a job, and you are the boss, and I do have to listen to you."
"I wish it were easier to forget," Kelly admitted.
Kate sighed, "So for me play time spills into work time, but for you work time spills into play time. We need to fix that."
"I need to fix that, you...I like you the way you are. There's nothing wrong with having fun, as long as you're getting stuff done, just...no shushing me during work time, ok? That's the one thing I ask."
"Alright," she smiled.
"Cause I've learned, if one person doesn't respect me, then it's like a domino effect after that."
"Hey," Kate pulled back, holding onto her waist firmly. "I respect you."
"Yea, I know--"
"No, I mean it. Like, you have no idea how much I respect you and how much in awe I am of you when we're practicing or performing or whatever. Honestly, when you talk or give advice...I take notes."
"You do not."
"No, I do, what do you think is on that music stand in front of me?"
"I don't know, I always thought you were doing crossword puzzles or something."
"I'm not as big of a dork as you."
Kelly laughed.
"Watch, come on," Kate took her hand, leading her inside. "Jill has my stuff."
Kelly followed her up to the small stage and over to her mic stand where Jill had placed all of her sheet music for her, along with a notebook and a pencil.
"See," Kate motioned to the papers.
Kelly glanced over the sheet music, skimming over all the notes in the margin, recognizing them all as things she had said or advice she had given of what they could do with their parts. She opened the notebook as Kate handed it to her, reading over the notes Kate had taken, ranging from posture and breathing techniques to things you could eat and drink before a performance that would help soothe your throat if you were sick. "Wow..."
"I told you so."
"You did," Kelly nodded, placing the notebook back on the music stand.
"Just because I don't bow down and kiss your feet, doesn't mean I don't respect you," Kate smiled.
"So you don't have a foot fetish...good to know."
Kate laughed pushing her playfully.
Kelly giggled, tapping the music stand, "Thanks for showing me that."
"I figured it was something you needed to see," she shrugged, smiling softly when Kelly looked her in the eye.
"You know, you are not making this easy..."
"What? Oh, the boss thing..." she grinned.
"Twenty feet away and no talking is starting to seem like a good idea."
"You so want to kiss me right now."
"When don't I want to kiss you?"
Kate blushed.
Kelly smiled, "Did you just think about me kissing you?"
"What?" her cheeks turned a darker red. "No...I..."
"Well, why you figure that one out, I'm gonna get the crew rounded up so we can start rehearsals...try not to undress me with your eyes while I'm walking away, ok?"
"I don't like you."
"Alright, I'll remember that tonight when you take your pajamas off because it's hot, yet you want to cuddle because you're 'cold'."
"I really don't like you."
"I really don't like you too," Kelly winked before turning away, laughing at Kate's soft growl.
+++++++++++++
Ashley rolled her eyes as Kelly ran and jumped on Kate's back after most of the crew had left, leaving them with just a couple other band members, "When's the wedding?"
Kelly stuck her tongue out as she wrapped her legs around Kate's waist, resting her chin on her shoulder.
"Middle of October... you coming?" Kate smiled.
"You seriously couldn't even wait until we got in the car to touch her?" Ashley laughed softly.
"She can't help it, really," Kate explained. "It's like...she's a leech, you know? Just sucking the life from me."
"Hey," Kelly protested. "You can't use my own lyrics to make fun of me."
Kate laughed as she turned, brushing her lips against the Texan's cheek.
"So...middle of October, huh?" Kelly questioned as Kate started to walk out of the rehearsal studio.
"I like the fall," Kate nodded.
"I thought you didn't like me. In fact, I thought you really didn't like me."
"I don't," she shrugged. "Which means we'll be an average married couple."
Kelly giggled, "So you don't like me."
"Nope."
"But you love me."
"You'd be hard pressed to find anybody around you that doesn't love you. You're an extremely lovable person...kinda like a puppy."
"Are you calling me a dog?"
"No, a puppy, there's a difference. Puppies are cute and lovable, and you just want to take them home and love them."
"So you want to take me home and love me?" Kelly brought her lips close to her ear.
Kate faltered.
"Whoa, careful now, don't drop me," Kelly wrapped her arms tighter around her as Kate steadied herself.
"Well, don't say stuff like that...like that."
Kelly grinned, "Did I get to you?"
"Shush."
"Hey, you can't shush me, remember?"
"Yes, I can, work time's over, so shush."
Kelly giggled, "You so want to take me home."
"If I scratch your belly, will your leg twitch?"
"I don't know about my belly...maybe a little lower..."
Kate's face flushed.
"Ok, come on, you had to know that was coming," Kelly laughed. "You totally set yourself up for that one."
"I didn't think you'd actually go there."
"Do you know me at all?"
Kate's laugh turned into a giggle at the feeling of Kelly nibbling playfully on her ear, "What are you doing?"
"Puppies nibble all the time," Kelly pointed out.
"Not quite like that."
"I had a dog when I was little that loved nibbling on people's ears."
"I'm pretty sure it felt different when he was doing it."
"How so?" her breath unintentionally tickling Kate's skin.
Kate took a deep breath.
"Oh...you really want to take me home right now, huh?"
"Kell..."
"I'm just teasing," Kelly assured with a loud kiss on her cheek, squeezing her gently in a hug.
"Seriously...I don't know what to do with you."
"I'm sure there are books for that--there's how-to books for everything nowadays."
Kate laughed softly, shaking her head.
Kelly smiled at the sound of her laughter, "Let's go on a picnic."
"You want to go on a picnic?" Kate questioned, trying to keep up with the Texan's train of thought.
"I've never been on one before."
"You haven't?"
"Not like a real one, no."
"And you want to go on one with me?"
"Yea, I think it'd be fun."
"Alright, then, sure, I'd love to go on a picnic with you. When do you want to go?"
"Tomorrow for lunch?"
"Sounds good to me," Kate nodded.
"Cool," Kelly replied, hopping off her back as they reached the car. "Thanks for the ride," she winked.
Kate bit her tongue, trying but failing to fight down the blush she felt rising, "You suck."
"There are lots of other things I do too, but we'll save that lesson for later," Kelly's eyes danced in amusement as Kate grew increasingly flustered. "Make sure to bring your notebook for that."
"I think I hate you," Kate nodded as Kelly climbed into the back of the car.
"Well, while you think about that, why don't you come sit next to me and hold my hand?"
Kate couldn't help but smile as she slid in next to the short Texan, closing the car door. She bit her lip to keep her smile from growing too wide as Kelly slid their hands together.
"You're so cute," Kelly grinned, giving her hand a gentle squeeze as she rested her head on her shoulder.
Kate laughed, turning to find Kelly's eyes slowly closing, "Long day?"
She nodded, smiling softly at the feeling of Kate kissing her forehead.
"Come on," Kate nudged her gently, patting her lap.
Kelly curled up on the seat, resting her head on the blonde's lap, yawning as Kate ran her fingers through her hair.
Jill opened the door to the other side, laughing softly at the two of them. She lifted Kelly's legs, giving herself room to sit before placing her feet down on her lap.
"So Jill's the one with the foot fetish..." Kelly mumbled.
"What?" Jill's eyebrows raised.
Kate laughed, stroking Kelly's cheek softly, "Shh...it's a good hour ride back to the hotel. Try taking a nap."
Kelly nodded, curling up into a tighter ball.
Jill watched curiously as Kelly's breathing immediately started to even out, "You're good with her."
Kate shook her head, "She had a long day yesterday and a late night last night, so it's no wonder she's exhausted after bouncing around on a stage for several hours."
"Yea, but something tells me she's not the type of person that takes a nap just because she's exhausted and definitely not because someone told her to."
Kate shrugged, "Maybe they just don't know how to ask."
Jill nodded, reaching over and squeezing her shoulder as Ashley and Jason got into the car.
"We're missing one," Jason noted, doing a silent head count in the rearview mirror.
"She's sleeping," Kate replied.
Jason turned around to find Kelly curled up in the backseat, passed out. "I guess that rules out stopping for pizza on the way back."
"We can order delivery from the hotel," Ashley offered.
"It's just not the same," Jason shook his head as he backed the car out of the parking space.
