Kelly swallowed hard, "Ok, Teach...show me what you got."
Carrie couldn't help but laugh, "Nervous?"
"No."
"You're lying?"
"Yes."
"Baby..." Carrie practically cooed as she joined her on the bed.
Kelly felt her heart speed up.
"Just relax, ok? Seriously...this is so much more enjoyable when you're relaxed."
"I just don't want to make a fool out of myself."
"Who's here for you to make a fool of yourself in front of? It's just me. We've done this before, right?"
"Yea."
"Trust me, ok? The less you think about it, the better it is. Kissing isn't to try and impress somebody."
"It's not?" Kelly asked, confusedly.
"No," Carrie shook her head, placing a hand on the shorter girl's knee. "It's to connect with someone, you know? To feel closer with someone and show them how you feel. It's supposed to be enjoyable."
"Someone needs to tell Eric that," Kelly muttered, her hands wringing nervously.
Carrie smiled, giving her knee a gentle squeeze, "Hey...hey, look at me."
Kelly turned on the bed to face her.
"We don't have to do this if you don't want to."
"I want to," she replied softly.
"You sure?" Carrie asked gently as she reached out, brushing Kelly's bangs out of her eyes.
Kelly nodded.
"Um, before we start...you locked the door right? I mean, your mom is awesome, but I don't think this is something she'd enjoy walking in on."
"I locked it."
"Ok," Carrie took a deep breath. "So, so far, I've always been the one to make the first move, right?"
Kelly nodded.
"So, I thought maybe you should this time."
"How do I do that?"
"You just...I mean, you just...well, you kiss me."
"Yea, but how? And I mean, how do I know when it's ok to kiss someone."
"Well, you just...you feel it."
"What does it feel like?"
Carrie smiled softly. The girl was seriously too cute for words. "It feels like you have this invisible string just pulling you to the person, you know?"
Kelly shrugged.
"Ok. I'll make it obvious for you," Carrie pushed herself back on the bed, sitting against the wall. "Come see."
Kelly moved closer to her, allowing Carrie to pull her onto her lap.
Carrie studied her face carefully, her hands smoothing over Kelly's pajama clad thighs, "How do you feel right now?"
"I, uh...I..." she stammered.
"You feel that?" Carrie asked, keeping one hand on her thigh and bringing the other to the Texan's stomach. "Way in there...like when you're singing."
Kelly nodded.
Carrie leaned closer to her.
Kelly's breath caught in her throat.
"What do you want to do?"
"I want to k-kiss you."
"You know...you have my permission," Carrie whispered.
Kelly leaned forward, her lips grazing Carrie's ever so slightly before she pulled back.
Carrie looked at her, her lips parted slightly. She'd never had so small of a kiss make her feel so...much.
"Was that ok?" Kelly asked nervously.
"You...you're gonna drive some guy crazy one day."
Kelly frowned.
"No, that's not a bad thing. Trust me."
"Can I try again?"
Carrie's heart melted at the look in the other girl's eyes, "Of course."
Kelly took a deep breath before leaning forward, her head tilting slightly as she pressed her lips against Carrie's. Carrie's thumb rubbed back and forth over the Texan's legs, not furthering the kiss, willing to let Kelly take this as slow as she wanted. Kelly pulled back, chewing on her own bottom lip. "Was that ok?"
"You're going to ask that after every time?"
"Maybe?"
"It was perfect," Carrie assured her.
She let out a relieved breath.
"How about we call it a night, huh? We have school tomorrow, and I can't be late because I have a game."
Kelly nodded.
Carrie smiled, reaching up and kissing her forehead.
Kelly climbed off of her, crawling under the covers, raising her arm up, ready for Carrie to lay behind her. Carrie got up to turn off the lights, her smile growing as she got back in bad, realizing that Kelly was waiting on her. She slid right behind the shorter girl, wrapping an arm around her stomach, pulling her back into her.
"Comfortable?" she asked.
"Mmhmm," Kelly nodded, closing her eyes.

"Hey, Ash, what's up?" Kelly asked, joining the taller girl at her locker.
"Nothing," Ashley looked at her, confusedly.
"What?"
"Nothing," she shrugged. "Just not used to seeing you without Carrie. Trouble in paradise?"
"She had a dentist appointment this morning. She should be back soon."
"Ah, so you had no one to talk to. Nice to see where I stand."
Kelly frowned, "You're upset about something."
"Wow. Some detective skills you've got there."
"Dude, what is your problem?"
"Dude..." Ashley nodded, thinking of all the nicknames she had heard Carrie and Kelly use for each other.
"Ok, seriously, Ash. What is going on? I can't deal with this hot and cold bull shit."
"You can't--you can't deal?" Ashley's eyes narrowed at her. She looked over Kelly's shoulder to see Carrie walking down the hall to them. "Kelly, why don't you do everybody around you a huge favor and open your damn eyes."
Kelly opened her mouth to protest, but Ashley turned quickly walking away.
"What happened?" Carrie asked as she walked to the side of her, placing a hand on her lower back.
"I don't know," Kelly motioned frustratedly in the direction Ashley had just stormed off. "She just went off on me again, for no reason. I just...damn it!"
"You just have choir left...you want to skip?"
"You? Skip?"
"I haven't checked back in. I'll just say my appointment ran late."
Kelly frowned, looking down the hall to where Ashley was walking away, "Yea, thanks. You want to go now?"
"Um, yea..." Carrie nodded, digging in her book sack and pulling out her keys. "Look, why don't you go the car. I just have to do something real quick. I'll meet you there in a sec, ok?"
"Ok," she agreed, taking her keys and walking past her.
Carrie sighed, hurrying in the opposite direction of her, towards where Ashley had headed off to. She caught up with her as the other girl exited the main building. "Hey," Carrie called out, getting her to turn around.
"What do you want?" Ashley shook her head.
"Look, I know you're going through some stuff right now, but just because you're too scared to tell Kelly how you feel about her, doesn't mean you get to treat her like crap, got it? She doesn't deserve that."
"So what...you're not only her new best friend, but you're her body guard now?"
"Oh, get over yourself. I mean it, either tell her, or suck it up, or leave her the hell alone."
"I don't know what you're talking about."
"You know exactly what I'm talking about."
"Are you threatening me?" Ashley raised an eyebrow.
"Yes," Carrie nodded. "I am. I hate seeing her like this, and I'm not going to stand by and watch you treat her like crap."
"Whatever you say, Barbie."
"You think I'm joking?" Carrie asked. "Who's side do you think she would take in this?"
Ashley narrowed her eyes.
"Think about it. You're the one that constantly bites her head off...I'm the one that consoles her...comforts her...talks to her...cuddles with her," Carrie smiled, seeing the fire in Ashley's eyes, glad that she hit a nerve. "And wow...look at the time. I've got to get going. Kelly's waiting for me at my car. You see, you hurt her, so now, I get to take her home and comfort her."
"You are such a..." Ashley stepped towards her.
"Such a what?" Carrie asked, for once not shying away. "Bitch? I'm not the one treating my best friend like some verbal punching bag because I'm afraid. On the other hand, I am the one that's not going to just stand around and watch the most amazing person I've ever met go through that. So...either tell her, or get over it, or leave her alone."

"Everything ok?" Kelly asked as Carrie got into the car.
"Yea," Carrie nodded, watching as Kelly fiddled with her hands. "Where do you want to go?"
"I think I just want to lay down."
"Your place?"
Kelly frowned slightly.
"My bed's more comfortable, huh?" Carrie ran a hand through the Texan's hair.
"Completely," she let out a soft laugh.
Carrie smiled, "My place it is, then."
++++++++
"I thought you said you were tired," Carrie commented, wrapping her arm loosely around the shorter girl as she turned into her.
"I think I said lay down," Kelly replied, resting against her shoulder.
"True. You ok?"
"Yea," she sighed. "Just kinda in this funky mood."
"Funky like how?"
"Just funky, and completely aggravated, and just everything makes me go...ugh, you know?"
"Is this because of Ashley?"
"A little bit, yea. I mean, I wish she'd just come out with it already. How bad could it be?"
"I don't know."
"And the fact that she doesn't trust me enough to tell me? I'm her best friend...or at least I was. I don't even know anymore."
Carrie kissed the top of her head, and Kelly snuggled further into her.
"Distract me?"
"Sure. How?"
"Talk to me."
"About what?"
"I don't know. Anything. How was the dentist?"
"Now, that's some exciting conversation right there," Carrie teased, wrapping her arm around her tighter. "It was good. No cavities, so woo for that."
"You do have a pretty smile," Kelly nodded.
"Thanks," Carrie laughed softly.
"Where'd you go when I was waiting in the car?"
Carrie sighed.
"Big sigh," she noted.
"Yea, I, um, I went see Ashley."
"Why?"
"To tell her off."
Kelly looked up at her, "What? You told someone off? And Ashley of all people? Wow."
"You're not mad?" Carrie asked, nervously.
Kelly shrugged, "I'm assuming you did it to stand up for me."
Carrie nodded.
"Can't be mad at you for being a good friend. Lord knows you've been a way better friend lately than Ashley has."
"Ashley's struggling right now," Carrie said softly. "I know that's no excuse, but this isn't easy for her."
"Says the girl that just told her off?"
"She needed to hear what I had to say."
"Well, aren't you becoming quite the assertive one."
"Probably from all the laughing gas in the dentist's office. Give it a few hours. It'll wear off."
Kelly smiled at her.
"You have a really pretty smile too," Carrie said, her thumb grazing across Kelly's cheek.
Kelly wrapped her arm around the other blonde's stomach at the feeling of her lips pressing against her forehead.
"Want to rest for a bit?"
She nodded.
"Ok," Carrie kissed her forehead again.
