Chapter 33 : False Negative
A week after Wrestlemania, and my turning on Matt and Amy, Glenn and I headed home with everyone, for our last fitting. The boys were out already and I was waiting on the girls and Catherine. I was going through some of the pictures of his bachelor party a month before, smiling at the antics of my brothers and friends. Freaky little bastards!
As I sat there I felt like I was gonna be sick. Glenn and I had Chinese food the night before and I felt like I was gonna lose all of it. I barely made it to the bathroom in the hall before I did. I heard Jess and Amy come in with Catherine, all three of them yelling my name. I yelled at one of them to bring me a towel, leaning against the wall and sliding to sit next to a trash can. Catherine came in, seeing I was sick and screaming for one of the girls to call Glenn to get home.
“I’m fine. Just bad Chinese food. Can I get a glass of water?”
Jess brought in a glass for me, handing it to Catherine as I sat on the floor. I didn’t feel so sick anymore, and drank a whole glass to stop the burning in my mouth. I heard Sara come in the door, Marcus waddling behind her.
“How is everyone…” She stopped smelling the sour scent in the air and seeing me sitting on the floor. “Fay, are you alright?”
I nodded, as Catherine scowled at me. “Mom, Relax. Glenn and I ate at a Chinese place last night and it didn’t agree with us. He felt sick last night.”
She looked at me sideways. “Are you sure your not…”
“I doubt it severely.”
Jess and Amy looked at each other as they stood me up. Both spoke in unison, bluntly and authoritatively. “Get a Test.”
I promised I would after the fitting, knowing our appointment at with Leah would be quick. Since Jeff and Matt had taken their Kids, and all we had was Marcus, we piled into the SUV Sara was driving. We got there just in time for our appointment, little Marcus waddling behind Jess who has entertaining him with one of Jeremy’s squeaky blocks.
Leah got us right in and to our last fitting, saying our shoes would be ready tommorrow and our dresses in a week. She would sew the name inside each one of the brides maid’s dresses so it would be easier on the wedding day. Catherine said she would pick them up in a week as we left, our wedding excitement growing. I got dizzy as I walked to the truck, grabbing ahold of Amy to steady myself.
“Fay. You alright?”
“Yeah.”
“You need to get a test, girlfriend. I swear you got the symptoms. I bet he knocked you up already.”
I didn’t feel like fighting, just puking. I fought the urge as I spoke. “Alright. Fine. Drugstore.”
So we stopped at the drugstore. Jess made me get two pregancy tests. “One for now and one for in the morning.” We practiaclly sped home, Catherine making me march upstairs an take the test the minute we pulled in thr driveway. I did, not wanting to fight about it.
Fifteen minutes later I came down, shaking my head. “Negative.”
“What’s negative?”
I turned to see Glenn behind me. He picked me up, kissing me with complete exhuberance, Mark, Matt, Jeff, Shane, Curtis, Big Paul Wight, Brock Lesnar, John Layfield and Ron Simmons behind him. He asked me again what was negative as I stared behind him at the entrie row of guys clad in Penguin suits.
“Who died?”
John Layfield smirked. “Glenn, done died and gone to heaven. Didn’t ya ever notice the wedding march sounded a lot like the funeral march.”
The guys all Laughed and I stuck my tougue out at them. Glenn asked me again what was negative and I told him I would tell him later. “Why are they in their tuxes now? The Wedding isn’t for three weeks.”
“Making sure you liked them. Do they work?” I looked at them, all in dark Navy-checked vests. Even Big Paul looked pretty good in his, but rather uncomfortable.
“Yeah. Not bad. Go ahead and change guys, you can leave them here. Who’s playing ushers and whos playing security?”
Mark pointed to Brock and Paul as they headed upstairs to change. “Theyr’e ushers and John and Ron will be security. Did you send the reception Invitiations yet?”
I nodded. “Had to have Catherine go put ‘Please bring invitation for admittance’ on them before they were printed. There arent many people for the actual wedding but there are for the reception. Speaking of your Mother…”
“Kitchen.”
I left, Mark and the other guys walking upstairs to change as Glenn stopped me before I went into the kitchen.
“What’s Negative?”
“The pregnancy test I just took.” I told him very matter of factly, seeing his face fall. I rubbed his cheek, smiling. “Hey. We’ll get there. Takes time.”
“What if we can’t? What if I cant give us a baby.” He hugged me as I scolded him.
“Don’t think like that. We have time. All the time in the world.” I kissed him, hearing someone little walk up behind us as we did.
I looked down at me feet, seeing Jenneca and Jeremy at our knees. Jeremy pointed up, babbling at us. Jenneca looked up at Glenn and I smiling.
“Pretty!”
She held up a silver spoon from the kitchen, She took off into the kitchen, her younger brother behind her, where we heard the squabbling of our nieces and nephews.
“We will have a baby soon, Glenn. Time heals and gives good things.” We walked into the kitchen, both of us smiling, and me wondering how long it might be.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
For the next two, almost three weeks we were on the road, and at least every other day I was sick. I never got sick when Glenn was around, usually controlling my urge to retch until I was away from him for a bit. I was not pregnant. I had taken five damned tests and every single one came up Negative. Something else was wrong I knew. It had to be.
About a week beofre the wedding I gave up. We were home and I told Glenn I had some wedding errands to run, but I was really going to the doctor. My doctor was an old Italian man with a thick accent, Lucio Raphael. All of the people in his office and his patients Called him Lucky. He was my OB/GYN, that the company was paying for per my new contract. I was due to see him anyway so had just made an appointment.
When I got to see him and told me my symptoms he immeadiately sent me to his lab for tests. “We get you a blood test. Those Over the counters, never work I think.” He had his nurse order a full round of standard of tests for pregnancy and everything else. He told me to wait around, saying his own people would do them. “We get results today!”
About three hours later the nurse told me to call Glenn and get him there. I did, going outside and calling him. His dad answered his phone, all chipper as I spoke to him.
“David, is Glenn there?”
“He’s putting together the flower canopy for the wedding. What can I help you with?”
“I need to talk to him.”
He sounded a bit hurt but called Glenn over. I heard his voice and calmed down a bit. “Hello Sweet Sunshine. Where are you?”
“You need to come to my OB’s office now.”
“Why? I don’t need anything looked at…”
“They want you here in thirty minutes big boy. Something is wrong with me and If I caught something from that friend of yours…”
I heard him move away from his dad and whisper to me. “What the hell are you talking about? You didn’t catch anything, Mark’s clean. What’s wrong?”
“They ran a damned blood test and want you here now. That’s whats wrong. Get down here.”
I heard him walking into the house as he said he was on his way.

Less than a half an hour later, both Glenn and his mother were walking in to the room I was in. I was in nothing but a hospital gown, staring at my socks as they came in, saying David was parking the car. He walked in with Lucky who was smiling. Glenn held my hand, rubbing my back as the doctor came in, obviously not comforted by Lucky’s smile.
“Mr. Glenn, you and Miss Faith, married next week right?”
He nodded, asking what was wrong. “Why was I called. I don’t understand. Is she going to be alright?”
“I should think would be obvious. Come with me all four. You can see this too. You are mother and father of Mister Glenn. Yes, you should see too.”
He led us down a hall, covering my backside in the small robe. We were guided into a small room, Lucky asking Glenn to put me on the table. He covered my bottom half with a sheet, lifting my robe to just below my rib cage. He put a little bit of clear goop on my lower abdomen and smiled as the screen flipped on. “Miss Faith. When last time you have period?”
“About three weeks ago.”
“Real light, yes?”
“Yeah…?”
“You with Mister Glenn before that?”
I nodded, “A little over two or so weeks before. Last time before the wedding.”
The doctor pointed to the small screen, tapping it. Glenn smiled as the screen flickered and he saw a slightly moving mass. I have never seen anyone’s face light up like that.
“Oh My God. It’s a baby.”
“Yes, very smart Mister Glenn. You should be doctor. Miss Faith about five and a half weeks after conceive. It’s very early. She be about eight weeks pregnant on you wedding day. Congratulations.”
I swear David was even crying as Glenn hugged me, and no man could have been more happy than he was that day. Catherine came up to both of us, hugging me and her son at the same time. I just kinda sat there in light shock.
“Finally, a grandbaby.”
David looked to the doctor, asking if he knew what it would be yet. Lucky said no. “We wait a few months. Miss Faith, come back every three weeks, make sure baby alright, about five months from now we know what you having. Come back after you is married to Mister Glenn. I set up appointments and get more tests run. Good?”
We made plans to come back a week after the wedding. We were only going to hole up in our house for two weeks, and now we had to get ready for the baby.
Oh my god, I’m gonna be a mother.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
We went home after David and Catherine said they would take us to Tony’s again. I still had the slick lubricant Lucky had put on me, and wanted to get cleaned up. Glenn let me wear something that covered me up more, thinking the mother of his child did not need to be walking around in a slinky halter dress. I didn’t argue. I knew soon I wasn’t going to be wearing anything remotely close to that for a long time.
During dinner, Glenn and Catherine kept telling me I had to eat, I was eating for two, and that I would have to take better care of myself for the baby. I thought I was funny how much they were guarding me and hovering. David told them to cut it out, That I knew what I was doing.
“Catherine, let her and Glenn let her take care of that baby. She’s gotta bear it, he’s gonna provide for it.”
Catherine smiled. “I know, but… A grandbaby. I’m so excited.”
I smiled to David. “This is only going to get worse. I have almost seven more months.”
After a while we left, Glenn and I both tired and having to get ready for last minute stuff for the wedding. I still had to call Vince in the morning, to let him and Linda know we were expecting. Glenn would want to be on his cellphone all day tommorrow, letting everyone know the good news. I would convince him in the morning to not tell anyone until they were in town for the wedding. We would let the wedding party and our families know at the rehearsal dinner, and the rest of the people we knew we would tell at the Reception. With all this on top of everything else, I would be exhausted by the time we hit the altar. And I still had to write my vows to him. Glenn and I still had to get Dad down here with his tux tommorrow.
Good lord I’m gonna flip out!
