"Kell..." Carrie mumbled a warning as she felt the other girl shifting against her, waking her up as her heart raced.
"Yea?"
"Stop moving."
"Sorry," she apologized. "I don't like sleeping on this side."
Carrie laughed softly, turning onto her back, pulling Kelly on top of her, "Better?"
"Yea," she nodded, snuggling into her. She smiled at the feeling of Carrie's stomach pushing into hers with every breath the taller girl took. "You're totally breathing from your stomach."
"Dork."
Kelly giggled as Carrie wrapped her arms around her tighter.
"What time is it?"
"Seven-thirty."
"Breakfast should be ready soon."
"I'm not getting up."
"Not hungry?"
"You feel too good."
"Feel?"
Kelly nodded, feeling her eyelids growing heavy again, "I like the way you feel. You're soft. And you smell really good, which doesn't hurt."
There was a knock on the door.
Kelly groaned, burying her face farther into Carrie's neck.
Carrie rubbed her back comfortingly, getting distracted as her hand followed the curve of the Texan's back. She could see the gooesbumps rising on Kelly's skin.
"Care..." she fussed, hugging her closer. "You're making me cold again."
"Sorry," Carrie apologized, pulling the blanket tighter around them.
There was another knock on the door, "Carrie?"
"Yea?" Carrie called back.
"Breakfast is ready, sweetie."
Carrie rolled her eyes at the nickname, "Be right down, Mom."
"Sweetie..." Kelly teased, laughing softly.
"Yea, yea," she smiled.
"Is it just me, or does it sound weird coming from your mom?"
"It's not just you."
Kelly wrapped her arms around her tighter at the change in the tone of her voice, "All-star sounds better to begin with."
"Definitely," Carrie nodded, resting her cheek against Kelly's forehead. "You realize neither of us is dressed, right?"
"I love being nekked."
Carrie choked, "Huh?"
"I do," she replied simply.
"You seemed pretty nervous last night."
"Last night was a little rough," Kelly admitted. "And I was kinda..."
"Vulnerable," Carrie finished for her.
"I hate that word."
"That's ok, I won't tell anyone," she squeezed her gently. "You hungry?"
"Yea."
"Ok, get dressed, and we'll go downstairs," Carrie said, covering her eyes to give her privacy so she could change before Kelly did the same for her.

Carrie felt Kelly pause as they walked down the stairs. She turned around to look at her curiously, "What's wrong?"
"Your mom doesn't know I'm here, does she?"
"I told her you'd be staying over. I'm not sure if she realized that you actually came though, because she didn't see you come in."
"You think she'll be upset?"
"Baby, it's fine," Carrie assured her, taking her hand and gently pulling her down the remaining stairs.
Kelly stayed right behind her, practically walking on the taller girl's heels.
"Smells good, Mom," Carrie commented as they walked into the kitchen.
"Kelly," Carole looked at the two of them, surprised. "I didn't know you were here."
"I told you, she'd be staying over."
"I know, dear, but I didn't see her come in last night. I was waiting in the living room to greet her."
Kelly was suddenly very happy that she climbed up to Carrie's window instead of using the front door.
"Oh, well, she ended up working last night, so she came in late. I made sure she was quiet so she wouldn't wake you guys. Where's Daddy?" Carrie asked, changing the subject.
"He's running an errand," Carole replied.
"He's not here?" Kelly whispered from behind Carrie.
Carrie gave her hand a gentle squeeze at the slightest hint of nerves in her voice.
"Well, sit down," Carole motioned to the island in the middle of the kitchen. "Don't want the food to get cold."
Carrie guided Kelly to one of the chairs and sat beside her.
"So, Kelly..." Carole forced a smile as she placed a plate in front of each girl. "How are things?"
"Things are going well," Kelly nodded.
"How's school? You're keeping your grades up?"
"Yes ma'am. I'm on the honor roll."
"That's nice," Carole replied. "And how about college? I'm sure you've already chosen what school you're going to attend."
"I'm not going to college, actually," Kelly said, not surprised at all that Carole didn't look surprised.
"Well...college can be tough...not everyone can make it. What about community college?"
"I was offered full paid scholarships to four different universities," Kelly replied. "I turned them down."
"You turned them down?" she looked at her, confused.
"College isn't the place for me. I already know what I want to do with my life, and going to college isn't going to help me get there."
"And what do you want to do, dear?"
Kelly felt her skin crawl at the term of endearment, "I'm going to sing."
"You want to sing..." Carole nodded.
"I'm going to sing," Kelly corrected.
"Well, it always helps to have a positive attitude."
"So, Mom," Carrie cut in, sensing Kelly's anger rising. "What errands did Dad go do?"
"Oh, he had to go pick up something at the store," she waved her off. "So, Kelly, about this singing thing..."
"Yes?" Kelly fought back the urge to sigh.
"Is your mom ok with you not going to college, being a teacher herself and all?"
"Um, she would prefer it if I did go to college, yes, but she knows how important this is to me, so she supports me completely."
"See, when I was younger, if your parent wanted you to go to college, then you went."
Kelly nodded, "Thankfully my mom doesn't believe in making my life miserable for the sake of her own happiness."
Carrie choked on her milk, and Kelly rubbed her back soothingly as Carole narrowed her eyes at her.
"Good for you," she replied, stiffly. "But what about after you're through all this singing, nonsense. What then?"
"What do you mean?" Kelly asked curiously.
"Well, you can't expect to sing forever, and the odds of you making enough money to be able support yourself by singing, are, well..." Carole couldn't hide her smile.
"Odds are just a bunch of numbers that have no direct impact on an individual scenario."
Carole raised an eyebrow, surprised, "So, you mean to tell me that you have no problem throwing away all the money and effort your mother has put into getting you a good education on some silly dream that will most likely never come true."
Kelly stood up quickly at the sound of Carole bringing her mother into it like that, "Listen--"
Carrie jumped up as well, placing and arm around her stomach, holding her there, "Kell..."
Kelly was shaking with anger in her arms.
"Please..." Carrie whispered.
Kelly turned to her, noticing the worried look in her eyes. "Fuck it," she cursed, turning out of her grip and hurrying up the stairs.
Carrie turned to her mother, "You just can't stop, can you?"
"Now, Carrie..."
"No," Carrie shook her head, turning to go after Kelly.

Carrie closed the door and found herself forced to take a step back as a pair of warm lips pressed against her own, firmly. She took Kelly's face in her hands and pulled her away, causing her to break the kiss. "Kell..." she caught her breath.
Kelly's eyes closed, taking Carrie's hands off of her, "Sorry."
Carrie's shoulders slumped as the shorter girl walked over to the sofa, curling up on the corner of it. "Kell..."
"I said I was sorry," Kelly replied. "I don't know why I came up here. I should've just left."
"I'm sorry about my mom," Carrie apologized, joining her on the sofa.
"I don't even care anymore."
"I didn't push you away because I didn't want to kiss you," she tried to explain.
"I said I was sorry, ok? Can we just drop it?"
"No, we can't. I pushed you away because you shouldn't be kissing me just to piss off my mom."
"That's not why I did it," she mumbled.
"No?"
Kelly shook her head.
"Then why did you?"
She shrugged.
"Kell, please..." Carrie turned her so that they were facing each other. "Talk to me?"
"You're mom's such a bitch," Kelly laughed softly. "You know I love you and all, but she is, I'm sorry. She's rude and inconsiderate, and she just has this way of making me feel ten inches tall, and I hate that feeling. I hate that feeling of not being good enough, and I just...I didn't want to feel like that anymore. I wanted to feel something else, so I kissed you."
"What do you feel when you kiss me?" Carrie asked curiously.
"Happy," Kelly looked at her shyly.
Carrie smiled, "I'm sorry for pushing you away."
"It's ok. I shouldn't have done it. I don't know what I was thinking."
"By George, I think she's got it!" Carrie teased.
Kelly looked at her as if she were crazy.
"You weren't thinking," Carrie replied with a grin. "Finally...you weren't thinking, and you just did it. How many times have I said that kissing isn't about thinking? And finally...finally, you've got it."
Kelly laughed, blushing slightly.
"It was a good kiss, by the way."
"Yea?"
"Scared the hell out of me, but it was good."
Kelly smiled smally.
"Still feeling ten inches tall?"
She nodded with a sigh.
"Maybe...maybe I can help?" Carrie offered nervously.
Kelly looked back up at her.
Carrie gave her a reassuring smile as she reached out, cradling her cheek carefully before leaning forward and pressing their lips together gently. She could feel Kelly relaxing under her touch, her lips parting just enough so that she could kiss her better.
Kelly's kisses were slow and delicate, and Carrie could feel the arm that she was leaning forward on shake slightly with the effort to follow the Texan's pace and let her go as slow as she needed. She felt Kelly place a hand lightly on her thigh, causing her heart to race, and she had to fight harder with herself to not reach out and pull the shorter girl to her. She didn't understand how the other girl had so much self-control. She kissed her so softly and so innocently, and Carrie trembled slightly wanting to lean forward, laying her down so she could deepen the kiss. Kelly slowly pulled back, her eyes opening gradually.
Carrie locked eyes with her, offering a gentle smile as her thumb stroked her cheek. "Happy?"
Kelly nodded, her eyes closing agains as Carrie reached up, kissing her forehead.
"Good," Carrie's smile grew.
