Kelly cursed at the feeling of someone jumping on her bed, "Go away."
"How was last night?" Ashley asked, climbing up the bed to sit by her.
"What are you talking about?" Kelly groaned, glancing at the clock. "What the hell? It's only seven-thirty, Ash. I have Leno later."
"So? How was last night?"
"Good," Kelly sighed, knowing the only way to get her to leave was to answer her questions.
"Just good?"
"Yea, I mean, we had dinner, and the food was good, so that means last night was good, right?" she yawned, pulling the blankets up to her chin.
Ashley frowned, "Y'all just has dinner?"
"I told you that last night."
"Well, tell me about dinner. What did y'all do?"
"We talked and ate. What else do you do at dinner?"
"You are no fun, do you know that?" Ashley hit her with a pillow before hopping off the bed.
"Can I go back to sleep now?"
"Yea, yea," Ashley waved her off as she walked back out of the room, closing the door behind her.

"Hey," Jill nodded as Ashley walked into the dressing room. "Where's Kelly?"
"Talking to Tim about something," Ashley replied, looking at Kate who was sitting on the small couch, flipping through a magazine, her eyes not really focused on what she was reading. "What's up with her?"
"She's been pouting all day," Jill shrugged. "What happened last night?"
"Nothing."
"Nothing?"
"Nothing," Ashley nodded. "Kelly still has no clue that it was supposed to be a date."
"Chicken," Jill shook her head, watching Kate.
"Aw, come on," Ashley laughed softly. "You can't tell me you weren't nervous as hell to admit to the first girl you liked that you liked her. She just needs a little boost."
Jill let Ashley pull her by the arm over to the sofa. She sat next to Kate as Ashley pulled up a chair.
"Hey," Ashley smiled at Kate.
"Hey," Kate replied, not looking up.
"Hey," Jill nudged her.
"Hey..." Kate glanced at her confusedly.
Ashley sighed, taking the magazine from her and hitting her on top of the head with it.
"What the hell?" Kate fussed, rubbing her head.
"You and Kelly...y'all are both retarded."
Kate's shoulders slumped.
"I'm sorry, that was harsh," Ashley let her voice turn gentle. "What happened, girlie? I thought you were going to tell her how you feel?"
"I chickened out," Kate shook her head.
"Why?"
"I don't know...during dinner, we just...it's easy to get caught up in conversation with her, you know?"
"What about after dinner?"
"I brought her home, and I walked her to the door."
"And?"
"She looked so beautiful last night," Kate blushed softly.
"She made you nervous?" Ashley smiled softly.
"You know how in cartoons when the character sees someone they like, their heart like beats two feet out of their chest? Yea, I swear it felt like mine was doing that."
Jill placed an arm around her, "What about her? Did she say anything?"
"She was so funny last night...I was such a dork," Kate rested her forehead in her hands.
"No," Jill chuckled. "I meant after when y'all were at the door."
"No, not really. I mean, I asked if we could do it again sometime, and she said sure like it was nothing, you know?"
"She didn't know it was a date," Ashley explained. "She can be kinda dense as it is, and right now she's really caught up in this mess with the album and finding a new manager and everything."
"I know, I kinda realized that she had no clue when she asked if I was staying over at y'all's to sleep."
Ashley laughed, "Asking for a sleepover on a first date? Girl is a whore and doesn't even know it."
Kate giggled softly as she sat back up.
"Did you have a good time, though?"
"Yea, I had a great time. I mean, I always do with her. And like I said, she was so funny last night, and she looked great, and it was just...it was so easy to just be with her when I stopped worrying about how to tell her."
"Yea, you are definitely madly in like," Ashley teased.
Kate felt herself blushing again.
"But what you have to remember is that Kelly is so far gone into you, so there is no reason for you to be nervous, ok?"
Kate nodded, "Did she, um...what did she say about last night?"
"At first, not much, but I think that's just because I woke her up so she was probably figuring out a way to kill me and get away with it, but on the ride here she wouldn't stop talking about it...that dress definitely left an impression, and she said that you were being insanely cute the entire time, and that she owes you big for making her take a break."
"But she has no clue it was a date?"
Ashley shook her head, "Sorry."
"What do I do now?"
"Well, the problem is that she's used to this," Ashley pointed out. "She's used to hanging out just the two of y'all, and she's used to flirting with you, and she's used to touching you, like holding your hand or whatever, so that's why in her mind, last night was no different than any other time y'all have hung out."
"How do I make her see that it is different?"
"You could tell her," Jill offered.
"She wouldn't listen."
"Make her."
"I tried that when you told me to tell her that I think she's beautiful."
"I think the original word was 'hot'."
"It came out 'beautiful," Kate shrugged.
"And?"
"In one ear and out the other."
"Yea, she's been set in the fact that she doesn't have a real chance with you since the beginning," Ashley nodded.
"Why?"
"Her reasons? Because you're straight. Because you're gorgeous. Because she's your boss, so even if hell froze over and she did have a chance, she still wouldn't be able to let anything happen. She's just settled into this mindframe of how y'all are now, is all that you're going to be."
"But...what about that night at the club?"
"Gotta love tequila. She's always so good about keeping herself in check. It comes with the hiding it thing, you know? She has to hide from the entire world that she's gay. It's always amazed me how much self-control she has when it comes to that aspect of her life. So, she just kinda brings that mentality into y'alls relationship. Tequila, however, breaks right through that self-control."
"But she didn't kiss me."
"She was only drunk enough to break through the self-control she has when it comes to wanting you, but she wasn't drunk enough to break through it enough to forget the fact that she cares about you so much."
"But if she's so set in the fact that nothing's going to happen, then why..."
"Why what?"
"She...she doesn't push me, but...I don't know..."
"You're gonna have to give me a little more than that to work with," Ashley noted.
Kate blushed deeply.
"Kate, you probably don't remember, but I was the one on the phone with you when Kelly was going to town on your neck at that club so it's a little late for embarrassment now."
"It's just that there's been so many times where, if it were anybody else, I swear they would've kissed me. Like...she just gets so close, you know? But, I know she's not going to."
"Why?"
"Because for some reason, she says I have the control."
"Told you she wouldn't push you..." Jill smiled in satisfaction.
"Yea, but when we're like that, I...I get closer, you know? Like each time I just get closer to just doing it."
"Why haven't you?" Ashley asked curiously.
"Because I didn't, like, I didn't get it, you know? I didn't really understand that I wanted to kiss her, and that I wanted her to kiss me back."
Ashley raised an eyebrow.
"She was in serious hiding," Jill explained.
Ashley nodded.
"But why would she even give me the opportunity if she thinks she has no chance?" Kate questioned.
"I don't know, maybe she sees there could be something there, but is just too afraid to try something and end up being completely wrong."
"So what do I do?"
"You just have to make it obvious to her."
"How do I do that?"
"What's the chances of you just walking up to her and planting one on her?"
Kate bit her bottom lip, the nerves evident in her eyes.
"Yea, didn't think so," Ashley laughed softly as she patted her knee. "You just, you know, everything that y'all already do? Do it more. Flirt with her like crazy. Anytime she is anywhere near you, touch her. Hold her hand, hug her, hold her in arms, just make sure that she knows that you'd rather be touching her than not."
Kate smiled.
"Like that thought?" Ashley teased.
"Not allowed to take my hands off of her," Kate nodded, trying to surpress a grin. "Definitely not hating that thought..."
The three girls broke into giggles, quickly having to quiet down as the door to the dressing room opened and Kelly walked in.
"Hey..." Kelly eyed them carefully at the sudden silence. "Did I miss something?"
"Yea, but what else is new?" Ashley smiled as she got out of the chair and pushed it over to the counter, motiong for Kelly to sit.
"Ready to make me look beautiful?" Kelly asked playfully as she sat down.
"You already look beautiful," Kate replied.
Ashley's jaw twitched as she fought to keep from laughing while Jill started to giggle again.
"What?" Kate whispered, turning to Jill. "Y'all said--"
"No, it's ok, I'm sorry, you're just kinda...eager, but that's ok. It's how you need to be right now...that was perfect," Jill assured, patting her arm.
Kate nodded, taking a relieved breath as she turned back to look at Kelly, still whispering, "She really does already look beautiful..."
Jill wrapped her arm tighter around her, "You'll get her to listen one of these days, don't worry."

Kelly glanced up from her laptop as Kate walked into her room. She took out one of her earphones, smiling, "Hey, I didn't hear you come in. When did you get here?"
"Just now...Ashley let me in," Kate explained, studying her carefully when she turned back to her computer.
"Come see this," Kelly patted the bed next to her. "It's so freaking cool."
Kate walked over to the bed, fingering the magazine she was holding, "What's up?"
"It's my video I did with Reba," Kelly grinned. "It's the final edit. They're premiering it in a couple days."
Kate nodded, watching the music video on the lap top as she chewed on her bottom lip.
"So..." Kelly looked at her hopefully when it had ended. "What do you think?"
"I think it's great," she replied honestly. "Like really, you were amazing in it. Totally Oscar worthy."
"Ok, now you're just full of it," Kelly laughed softly.
"Well, at the very least it will show all the From Justin to Kelly critics how wrong they were," she gave a small smile.
"You really liked it?"
"Yea, it's...it's great. Not a big fan of the guy, though. I wouldn't mind thoroughly kicking his ass."
"He was just acting," Kelly patted her knee assuringly. "He was actually really sweet."
"Yea, well...I still wouldn't mind kicking his ass," she mumbled.
"Is everything ok?" Kelly turned to her curiously. "You seem...reserved..."
"I stopped at the store on my way here because I needed to pick up some stuff for taco night, right?"
"Yea, taco night," Kelly nodded. "Might be my favorite idea of yours since we've met...well, besides when you decided that you wanted to dance when we went out with Carrie that one time."
Kate smiled, blushing, "Yea, that was definitely one of my favorite ideas too."
"Glad we agree...so what happened at the store?" Kelly asked.
Kate glanced down at the magazine in her hands, her face paling slightly as she took a nervous breath.
"Is that it? Did something in there upset you? I'm sure I could get the editor's number and give them a piece of my mind for you."
Kate choked back a laugh, her eyes tearing up.
"Kate...Kate, what's wrong?" Kelly asked worrriedly as she reached up to brush the tears away. "You've gotta talk to me girlie...you crying is not allowed, ok? It makes my heart do this breaking thing, and I just can't take that."
"I'm sorry," Kate shook her head, sniffing. "I just..."
Kelly unfolded the magazine when Kate handed it to her, "The CosmoGirl article came out? Ok...well, that's not a bad thing. I even got them to go easy on the photoshop, and there's this picture in there where my butt is just like...bam...oh wait, is that what this is about? My butt totally scared you, didn't it?"
Kate bit her lip as more tears formed.
"Kate no..." Kelly moved onto her lap, holding her face in her hands. "I'm sorry. I was just joking. I wanted to make you smile. I don't do well with crying, especially when it's a pretty girl, and you are by far the prettiest girl I ever met, so you gotta help me out here, ok? You gotta tell me who or what upset you so I can kick their ass, ok?"
"I-it said..."
"It said?" Kelly questioned, flipping backwards through the magazine to find the article. "Something they wrote? Ok, well, I'm sure it's not that bad. I mean, I know the tabloids can be brutal sometimes, but I hear the interviews are usually pretty decent..."
Kate studied her face when her voice trailed off as she scanned over the article.
"Ah...I think I found the culprit," Kelly nodded, swallowing. "Are you upset I didn't tell you about it?" she looked up at Kate. "Because I mean...it was so long ago, and I...I didn't even tell the reporter--"
"No, no," Kate quickly replied, wiping her eyes. "No, it's ok. That's not it, I just...are you ok?"
"Aw, yea, hun, don't worry," Kelly assured, rubbing her arm. "Like I said, this was so long ago. I mean, I was in high school, you know?"
"I know, but..."
"But what?" she stroked her cheek gently.
"One of my friends was bulimic in high school..."
"Yea?" Kelly soothed her thumb back and forth across her jawline.
"And I just...she had a really hard time with it, you know? I don't really talk to her as much now. We grew apart when we went to college, and now she's married and has a kid, but she still struggles with it...they say that once you have an eating disorder, it's always there, like you always have to deal with it."
"Kate, I promise you I am fine, ok?" Kelly assured. "It was six months, and I was just young and stupid, and when I realized how stupid I was being, I stopped."
"I didn't think it was something you could just...stop."
"I always was a strange one," Kelly shrugged.
"You sure?"
"I promise you," Kelly repeated, taking her face in her hands once more, making her look her in the eye. "Look at me, ok? You can read right through me, you know that. You know that I can't be anything but honest with you. So let me look you in the eye and tell you that I promise you that I am ok. I promise that I have never even thought about going back to that, not for a second, ok?"
Kate let out a deep breath.
"Feeling better now?"
"Yea," she nodded. "And slightly silly."
"No, don't, it's ok. I'm sorry that the article worried you, and I'm sorry that it brought back memories of your friend, that must've been hard."
"It's ok. I'm just happy that you're ok and happy and happy with yourself and with your butt."
"Yea?" Kelly laughed softly.
She nodded again, "Yea...it's nice..."
"Nice?"
"Really nice," she blushed, glancing down at the picture of Kelly in a short white dress.
Kelly giggled as she wrapped her arms around the blonde's neck, hugging her tightly.
"I'm really sorry I freaked out so bad."
"It's ok," Kelly ran a hand over her hair. "Just no more crying, ok? Because that seriously killed me."
"Deal," she smiled as Kelly pulled back, kissing her cheek. "Hey, um...what were you about to say?"
"When?"
"Before I cut you off."
"I'm gonna need more than that."
"You were saying something about not even telling the reporter," she reminded, her hands finding Kelly's hips, resting lightly against them.
"Oh...yea..." Kelly sighed. "I almost forgot about that."
"You didn't tell her?"
"No," she shook her head.
"Then how'd she find out?"
"I don't know. They have this like self-esteem camp thing every year for the girl scouts, I think it is, and I've donated to it every year, and they've been trying to get me to go speak to them, but I can never fit it in my schedule. It always falls at the worst time, so this year I decided to write them a letter. For the girls, you know? I just wanted to let them know that everybody doubts themselves sometimes, but it's important to not let that get them down because they are so amazing, you know?"
Kate nodded.
"I guess the magazine got a hold of the letter somehow."
"So they decided to print it without your permission? And claim that it was part of the interview?"
"They do that all the time. They take stuff from other interviews or just stuff I've said randomly and use it as their own."
"How do you deal with that?"
"I never read them. It's just easier that way," she shrugged.
"But this...this is a big thing for them to use without your permission."
"Yea."
"Are you mad?"
"Frustrated a little, but it's not like there's anything I can do about it now. I mean, it could be worse; they could've just made up their own story and printed that as fact--they do that all the time too."
"Man..." Kate shook her head, sighing.
"Don't let it upset you. It's not even close to being worth it."
"I hate reporters."
"Aw, come on, don't say that. They're just doing their jobs."
"Yea, well if they have to steal stories or make up facts because they can't sell a magazine with honesty then they aren't very good at their jobs and maybe they should start rethinking their career choice."
Kelly grinned.
"What?"
"Nothing, I just...you're really cute when you get mad."
"Yea?"
Kelly nodded, "And this whole role reversal thing where you're the one defending me...it's pretty hot..."
Kate blushed.
Kelly laughed lightly as she reached up to kiss her forehead, "How about we go make those tacos, ok?"
"I think you're hot too," Kate blurted out.
Kelly froze, raising an eyebrow as she climbed off the bed, "Oh?"
She nodded, afraid to open her mouth again.
Kelly smiled, "Good to know..."
Kate groaned inwardly, resisting the urge to hit her forehead as she got up to follow the short Texan out of the room.
