Winds of Destiny (Pt34)
After an uneventful stay in Lagos, Nigeria, the family once again boarded the planes for the next leg of their homeward journey, stopping at a small private landed strip on the out skirts of Tangier, Morocco for refueling. The air was still and quiet for early morning, but the lights of Tangier shown in the distance.
Crystal bounced down the stairs, full of energy after sleeping most of the way on the plane. Taking a deep breath of the air she glanced around as Sean, Amber's 20 year old grandson stopped beside her.
“Hi.”
“Hi Sean.” Crystal greeted him with a smile. “How was your flight?”
“Fine I guess. I slept most of the way.”
“So did I.” She giggled and pointed to the sign hanging above a smaller hanger. “Want to do that with me?”
“um…it’s 4 o’clock in the morning, I don’t think they are open for business.”
“Pay anybody the right amount of money and they will open.”
“Who are you going to ask for money?”
“Joe.”
“He’s not going to give you money for that.”
“Sure he will, if not, then I’ll ask Nick.”
“Right.” Sean laughed.
“So…are you going to do it with me?”
“Sure…” Sean shrugged his shoulder. “..but they aren’t going to give you the money.”
“Yes they will.” Crystal grabbed his hand and dragged him over to where Joe was talking to Kelsey and waited for him to finish talking to notice she was stand there.
“Hi sweetheart.” Joe smiled down and her.
“Can I have some money?”
“Don’t you have any left from the last time I gave you some?”
“Yes, but not enough.”
“Enough for what?” Joe frowned, then glanced around to what she could possibly want to spend it on.
“Sean and I want to do that.”
Joe followed her pointing finger as did Kelsey.
“um…isn’t that dangerous?” Kelsey asked.
“No, it’s safe.” Crystal replied. “Probably safer then the storm we went through out at sea.”
“Why would you want to do something like that? I take you flying all the time.”
“It’s different, yours is sorta controlled, not that high. That is free falling...fast. It will be fun too…please.” Crystal pleaded.
“I’ll go with her. I’ve done it a few times.” Sean put in, shoving his hands in his pocket.
“You got that adventurous side from you mother Sean.”
“I know. That’s what dad tells me all the time. I’m surprised he let me do the things I did growing up.”
“Alex is just protective of you.” Joe reminded him.
Sean nodded. “I know and I love him for it.”
“So can we?” Crystal broke in.
Joe looked to Kelsey, she only shrugged her shoulder. “Alright…but..”
“Thanks.” Crystal squealed and jumped in his arms.
“…but I’m going with you just in case.”
Kissing his cheek she spun around, grabbing Sean’s shirt sleeve to drag him to another plane. “We have to get Sav to go. Wait till you see him complain about it, it’s so funny.”
“I have seen him a few times.” Sean pulled his arm free.
“Not like this.” Crystal laughed.

Little over an hour later, Joe was finally able to convince the pilot with enough money…Nick’s money and going with the. Five people clamored on board the smaller plane and waited for the time when the pilot told them they were high enough to get ready.
“I can’t believe I let Sean and Crystal talk me into this.” Sav mumbled as he zipped his suit up to glare at them.
Nick stood in front of him smiling. “Twist your hair up.”
“Why?”
“Tangles, big ones.”
“Oh alright.” Sav grumbled and twisted his hair to secure with a hair pin that Joe held out for him.
“Why are we doing this? We do this sort of thing everyday.”
“This will be a little different.” Joe said.
“How? It’s the same thing as flying.”
“Well…I suppose it is.” Joe patted his cheek.
“I don’t want to go.” Sav moaned.
“Sure you do, it’ll be fun.”
“Fun for whom?” Sav exclaimed.
“Why do you have to whine about everything we do, Sav?” Crystal asked jabbing Sean in the side, as they waited for them to finish getting ready.
Sean dipped his head to hide his smile.
“Because its fun to listen to him.” Nick smiled and released the goggles.
“Ow…are you trying to push my eyes to the back of my head?”
“We wouldn’t want to do that now would we?” Joe leaned in behind him to kiss his exposed neck.
Sav shuddered from his touch and turned to look at him.
“You’re so adorable wearing that.”
“What happened to sexy?”
“I was trying not to think about that.” Joe frowned.
“Why don’t we do that instead of this?”
“Oh come on Sav.” Joe took him in his arms. “Where is your sense of adventure?”
“I can be adventurous in bed.” Sav said with a cheeky grin.
“Oh I know you can.” Joe leaned forward to kiss him again, while maneuvering him toward the door.
Sav pulled back to play with Joe’s zipper. “Let’s stay here and join the mile high club.”
“We are already gold members.” Joe replied and turned him around.
Sav grabbed the sides of the door and peeked out. “Oh no…I don’t want to do this.” He tried backing up, but Joe blocked his way.
“Sure you can. I’ll be right behind you.”
“I can’t even see the ground, it’s too dark!”
“See that little light.” Joe pointed out the door. “That’s where you need to land.”
“Nooo….I’m afraid of heights.” Sav backed up again.
“Oh geez.” Crystal groaned and pushed her way in front of them with Sean. “Sav its easy…watch.”
“Come on Uncle Sav, really it isn’t that hard.” Sean yelled over the noise of the wind. Waving bye, Crystal and Sean fell backward out the door.
Sav and Joe watched them disappear into the dark.
Nick moved in front of them and patted Sav’s cheek. “It’ll be fun and remember…don’t use your abilities.”
“Fuck you, Nick.” Sav growled and shoved him out.
Joe moved up behind him again, snaking his arms around his waist so that his hand landed on Sav’s chest. “Come on baby. I’m right behind you.”
Sav squeezed his eyes tightly shut. “I must be crazy.” He took a small step forward, then another. The last one met with air and they both tumbled from the plane.
‘There went my stomach.’ Sav though, as the rush of falling hit him. Trying to keep in mind what Nick said about his abilities, he clamped his hand tighter over Joe’s that was on his chest. Joe pulled both of their arms out beside them, it slowed their downward fall a little.
Sav looked at the distant lights of Tangier, then toward the dark outline of the mountains. ‘Not so bad.’ He felt Joe start to move away from him.
“I have to move beside you.” Joe yelled above the wind. “Release in ten, pull in twenty seconds, got it.”
Sav nodded his understanding and watched him move beside him, still holding tight to his hand, until he yanked and Sav released him, seconds later he saw Joe be jerked from his view, then counted to twenty and pulled the rip cord……nothing happened.
Sav glanced at the rapidly approaching lights where he was supposed to landed, still yanking on the cord. “Ugg…what’s the matter with this thing?” Another quick glance sent his flying ability into full mode, slowing him down. Still yanking on the cord some twenty seconds longer he slowed his fall even more and stopped ten feet above the ground.
“This…*yank*…thing…damnit…*yank*…isn’t….*yank*…” He felt the jar as the parachute was shot from the pack.
He glanced over his shoulder at the red material. “Ah…there it is.” Landing softly on the ground, he was promptly yanked backwards to land on his rump when the chute halfway filled in the gentle breeze.
He quickly reached up to unlatch the buckle, releasing the parachute. Sav stood up and brushed the dirt from his jumpsuit hearing the laughter on all sides. Spinning around he unbuckled his helmet and threw that down, followed by his goggles. He stalked right up to Nick and punched him the jaw.
“What was that for?” Nick called after him, rubbing his jaw.
Sav was shaking the pain from his hand as he walked off. “For laughing at me….asshole!”
“Joe laughed too, you should punch him.”
“You were closer to me, but Joe will get his.” Sav called back.
“Looks like you’re sleeping alone tonight.” Joe yelled across the field as he rolled up his chute. Crystal was off to the side laughing with Sean.
“You both are.” Sav yelled back from somewhere in the darkness.
“I can only imagine the fun you had with them on the yacht.” Sean commented as they made their back to the hanger.
“Most of the time it was fun, but there was some tense moments.”
“Yeah.” Sean glanced sideways at her. Gathering the courage he needed, he took a shallow breath.
“So…um…would you…are you looking forward to you birthday party?” He could have beaten himself up when the question came out wrong.
“Yes and turning eighteen…finally.”
Sean chuckled. “I can remember turning eighteen. Just watch out for grandfather and his birthday spanking.”
“I’m not worried about that. I’ll just hide behind Nick, he can protect me from big bad mean Joe.”
Sean laughed with her as they stopped just inside the hanger and handed over their parachute to the attendant.
“That was great…thank you.” Crystal beamed at him.
Sean shoved his hand deep in his pocket as they headed back to the planes. “Are you looking forward to getting back home?”
“Oh yes…I loved the cruise. Gave me a chance to see things I could only dream about or see on TV.”
“I’ve never been on a cruise like that, guess I will have to try it now.”
“You should, its really fun.”
“Yeah maybe.” Sean replied softly stopping beside her plane, he glanced up the stairs. “This is you.”
“Thanks for walking back with me.”
“Your welcome.” Sean whispered taking her hand.
“Thank you for sky diving with me. That was a lot of fun, something we will have to do again.”
“I would like that.” Sean smiled.
Sav came upon them, slowing his steps when he noticed that Sean was holding Crystal’s hand. Trying not to give it a second thought he cleared his throat saying as he went up the steps. “Crystal, gather your things and go with Sean on his plane.”
“Why?”“Don’t ask why, just do it.” Sav snapped.
Crystal was taken back by his rudeness. “You don’t have be a shit about it Sav…geez.”
“I wasn’t!” Sav exclaimed.
“Whatever.” Crystal shot back holding his gaze until he spun around and disappeared inside the plane. “What is the matter with him?”
“I guess he is a little upset about the skydiving incident.” Sean answered.
Crystal rolled her eyes. “He takes thing way to seriously, same as Nick and Phil pay’s close attention to everything.”
“Yeah, I know what you mean.” He looked back at her and without thinking he blurted out. “May I have the first dance with you at your party?”
Crystal smiled up at him. “If there is any dancing, yes you can.”
“Great.” Sean beamed.
“Well, I guess I better get my stuff before he throws it off.”
“He wouldn’t do that.” Sean laughed. “I’ll see you in a few minutes.”
“OK.” Crystal called out as he jogged over to his plane. Bounding up the steps she stopped to grab a bottle of water. Sav was sitting on the small sofa drinking from one of his bottles.
“Are you mad about the skydiving?”
“No.”
“The way you asked me to go with Sean gave me that impression.”
“I’m not mad about the skydiving, it’s…..something else.”
“Want to talk about it?”
“Not with you.” Sav glared at her.
“Fine.” Crystal snatched up her bag and gathered her things. She heard Sav sigh heavily and glanced at him, he was staring down at the floor, seemingly deep in thought. Swinging the strap over her shoulder she headed for the door and down the stairs.
Joe was standing at the bottom and reached out to stop her. “Crystal, where are you going?”
“Sav asked me to travel with Sean.”
“Did he?” Joe raised his brow.
“Yeeess. Why else would I have my carry on bag?”
“uh...good point, but why would he ask you to leave?”
“I have no idea Joe, but he wasn’t very nice about asking.”
“You know how his mood swings are, so don’t think too much of it.”
“I know.” Crystal replied softly.
Joe leaned down and kissed her cheek. “Don’t worry about it.”
“I…I better get over there.”
Joe watched her walk to the other plane and go on board, then turned his gaze to the open door of his plane. A smile slowly spread across his mouth as an idea sprang to life in his mind.
