She pushed her way through the packed crowd. She couldn’t believe they were back in Boston, and worse his wife was here. She could be civilized she told herself as she cleared past the bouncers. Well she wouldn’t start a fight in the parking lot, she thought as she smiled to herself. She still couldn’t believe that he hadn’t left his wife. She sighed. She couldn’t go through that again. She turned the corner and saw him standing there. He was fidgeting with his shirt. She walked up to him smiling.
“Hey you” He said grinning back at her.
“Hey yourself, are you nervous?” she asked as she grabbed his hand
“Hell yeah I am” he said with a small laugh “and I don’t really want to be here” he added as his face dropped. He reached up and brushed her face gently and she closed her eyes.
She knew what he was feeling because she felt it too.
"Good luck tonight" she said with a flirty smile and she had to fight back the urge to kiss his full mouth
"Thanks" he said with a grin to match his shrug "I will probably need all I can get"
"Don't be silly" she said grabbing his arm "You could go up there and just take your clothes off and people will loose their minds" she finished with a laugh
"well...I am willing to bet that some people who are around tonight will not agree with that" he finished covering her hand.
The electricity they still had together amazed her. After everything they had been through in the past few weeks she still was amazed that they had even grown stronger. She was still worried along the edges though. Michael still wasn’t taking the thought of divorce well, he hadn’t even signed the papers and Jordan, well Jordan showed no signs of severing his relationship with his wife.
Standing there looking at her, her smile, the way she shifted to fidget with her hair simply mesmerized him. Her shiny brown hair caught the light and it shimmered. He smiled. Man did he have it so bad. It was taking every ounce of his strength not to just sweep her up into his arms and carry her off and never return.
He was glad that his conviction had held up as Evelyn walked up behind her.
Kristy noticed the change in his face immediately as she registered the clicking of heels on the hard concrete. She felt it was time she got out of there.
"Well good luck with the show" she said with a smile as she turned to walk off. She eyed Evelyn coolly and didn't even warrant a return glance.
"Who the hell was that" she heard Evelyn rage at him the minute she had turned around the corner in exit. She paused to ease drop on his response.
"No one" he said in a defensive tone "it was just a random fan, you know how they are" he finished absently and she could hear them walk off.
Just a random fan? the thought sent waves of ice through her. Was that all she really was to him just a random fan. The sensible side of her tried to rationalize her stupid thoughts but she shut it up immediately. She pressed her back against the wall. What in the hell was she doing? She had put her life aside, no, no made her life hell for him to just call her a random fan. Who in the hell did he think he was. It was the last straw for her and she felt it break into a million pieces. The tears welled up in her eyes and she angrily fought them back she was not going to cry, not over him. He had denied that she had even existed last week too. When all the rumors started flying about them he had denied it and then gave her a load of bull shit about his marriage and image to cover it up and she, like the naive girl she was, had fucking believed him. He had been playing her for a fool and she had let him. She began to shake now she couldn't control it. What the hell was she going to do? Her marriage was practically in shambles and she thought that Jordan was the one true person in her life, man she was a complete idiot.
She practically ran through the corridor and back into the bar. The place was wall to wall people. She looked around quickly for the way out. She had to get out of there, she needed to just get out of there now. She pushed through some chattering girls and had to suck in a breath when someone hastily caught her around the middle.
"Just where do you think you are going missy" Bubba said through the noise
"I am leaving, so take your fucking hands off of me" she screamed
Jerking back with her shocking response Bubba furrowed his brows.
"What in the hell is going on" he said placing a hand tenderly on her shoulders
Kristy burst out into hysterical sobs and could feel Bubba lead her out side of the noisy club.
"He called me just a random fan" she said through heaving breaths.
"what?" Bubba said completely confused
"He told Evelyn that I was just a random fan" she finished with a sniffle and a swipe at her now raw eyes.
Bubba couldn't contain his relieved laughter. He stopped abruptly at the angry glance she shot him.
"Sorry but what can you expect honey. For him just to say oh by the way this is Kristy the girl that I really love" he said with an are you an idiot tone to his voice.
She narrowed her eyes in pure hatred. "He doesn't even acknowledge that I fucking exist so how can he love me" she finished with a dangerous hiss.
"Kristy, listen" Bubba began
"No you listen, I am threw, I am just fucking threw with all of this shit" she said throwing out her arms and stomping her feet child like
The tears began again. She felt like her heart was torn into. "I can't be in his shadow any more, I can't stand knowing that he can't even say that he loves me in public. We can't hold hands, kiss nothing with out someone having a damn picture of it and I am so fucking tired of it all" she said through streaming tears and gripping her fists in anger.
"Kristy" Bubba started again
"Just stop it" she said throwing up her hand "I knew this was all a joke from the beginning and I let myself actually believe that I was different, I was special, but who was I fucking kidding" she said gesturing around "So what’s the joke about me Bubba, I wanna hear what he really says about me" she said staring at him challengingly
"Kristy he loves you" He said putting a hand on her shoulder
"Bullshit that is just a fucking load of bullshit, and you damn well know it" she said pointing a shaking finger at his face.
At that moment a bouncer dressed in their usual black came out of the club and tentatively walked up to them.
"Uh, Bubba, uh they are ready to start the show" he said looking from Kristy to Bubba in alarm
"Ok I will be right there" he said with a dismissive gesture.
"Look Kristy listen" Bubba tried to begin again
"Stop it, I don't need you or him to stroke my ego at the moment. You are being summoned so go play lap dog" she finished as she walked off.
He only stood there for another moment and then he walked back in to the pounding club with a now heavy heart.
She ran to the curb and ignored the strange looks she got from the still entering girls. Waving her hands in the air she hailed a cab.
"Where to lady" the driver said over his shoulder
"the Sheraton" she snapped
She stared out the window and rode the waves of mixed emotions that flooded through her. What the hell was she going to do now? Jordan was on stage right now shaking his ass for all of his unknowing fans and most important of all his fucking wife. After all that they had said and done to each other he was still with his fucking wife. That was the part that hurt the most. She was still with her husband, well legally anyway but she had not seen or talked to him after the incident at the Plex in Charleston. He was never a thought in her mind. She was jerked out of her silent tirade as the cab made a sudden stop in front of the hotel.
"7.50 lady" The cabby shot back at her
She absently pressed a ten dollar bill in his hand.
She stormed through the lobby and up to the reception desk.
"How can I help you mam" the cheery woman said eyeing her ragged appearance coolly
"Listen, I need to change my airline ticket" Kristy said hastily tapping her fingers on the counter
"Ok mam, what name are they under" the lady replied back
"Z International" Kristy almost snapped at her "I am listed under Kristy"
"Ok and you are no longer flying out to New York tomorrow afternoon with the rest" she said with a raised eyebrow
"Uh no..." Kristy regained some of her professionalism as she calmed "there has been a change in plans for me and I need to go to Charleston immediately" she said fussily checking her watch.
"well mam, it looks like the earliest flight I have for that area would be tomorrow morning at 6:00 am"
"What, that is the quickest" she almost screamed. The thought of staying another night around all of this shit seemed to tear at her insides. Her thoughts racing she thought of another place that she could settle her mind.
"What about flights to London?" she asked
"well, there is one that leaves at 1:30am" the clerk said with a smile
Kristy checked her watch. 9:00, ok so that left her with only about 4 hours to pass the time.
"That would be great can you book it"
"Yes and who will I charge the price difference to?" she said with an absent smile
Kristy almost thought of charging it to the bastards but then thought better of it. No use in stooping to their low level she reminded her self as she hauled out her credit card.
"Ok everything is set and your flight check in time is 1:00am, shall I have a cab for you?"
"yes please and I will be at the bar if you need me" Kristy replied heading for the elevators.
Once inside she laid her now aching head against the shinny wall. She just had to get away from here. She had to go where she knew that no one could find her and that she could think. She wasn't quite sure how they would respond to the news but she knew they would be there for her so she had to go.
She looked at her reflection and had to laugh. Man she looked fucking rough, wonder what that bitch at the desk thought was going on she chuckled.
When the doors opened on her floor she went to her room and packed up everything. She hastily changed into a black jogging suit and tennis shoes, washed her make up streaked face and pulled back her hair. It was getting long she thought absently. Then heaving her bag over her shoulders, she trudged back to the elevators. Man where was Bubba when you needed him she thought with a laugh. She had to stop, she knew that she would have to apologize to him for what she had said. It was not about him and she should not have punished him for it. Letting out an exhausted sigh she finished heaving her bag the rest of the way.
When she reached the bar, the well dressed patrons eyed her curiously.
"You can leave that here" the somewhat cute bartender said to her as he gestured to a luggage bin on the side of the bar.
"Thanks" she said with a gasp as she moved it into position.
"so what will it be" he said with a reassuring smile as he wiped at a place on the bar.
"double vodka and OJ" she said blowing her hair out of her eyes. "and a pack of cigarettes" she planned to be well plastered before she got on that plane. It would quiet all of the raging emotions she felt.
Two drinks and a half a pack of cigarettes later her insides froze again when she looked up and saw Jordan enter the bar.
He walked over to her with a concerned expression.
"Just what do you think you are doing?" he said putting his hand on the back of her chair
"Get away from me" she said pushing past him and almost slamming through the double doors on to the open patio.
