Chapter 34
Gerry didn’t know what to do. He knew Ann saw him kissing Liana. She had to have. Why else would she have run? He just stood there for a few seconds. Should he run after her? Would she even listen to him? He was suddenly brought out of his thoughts by Lynn saying very sternly, “If you aren’t going after her, I will.” Lynn got up and rushed out of the restaurant closely followed by Gerry. Brendan was left at the table, suddenly aware that the entire restaurant was staring at him.
When Lynn got outside, Ann was no where to be found. “Where is she?” Gerry said with desperation in his voice.
“How the hell should I know?”
“I fucked up real bad didn’t I?”
“Yes. I am gonna have a look around. She doesn’t have any money, so she can't have gone far. You stay here.”
“Good idea.” Gerry saw a bench across the street and sat down. All he could think about was how mad at Liana he was. He was afraid that Ann wouldn’t listen to him. A few minuets later Brendan came out and sat next to him.
“Who was that?” he asked.
“Long story.”
“I think we have time.” Gerry preceded to tell Brendan the whole story including what had happened at the museum that day. “That chick is fucking nuts.”
“I know.” They sat in silence for a minuet. Brendan kept stealing glances at Gerry, who looked as thought the world was crashing in on him.
“I’m sure she will understand once you explain all that.”
“You think? I mean look what happened to me after I saw her kissing Adam in the paper, and that was the paper. ”
“I see your point.”
Brendan would have said more, but Gerry's phone rang. It was Lynn. She found Ann about a block away in a bar. Lynn told them to go back to the hotel and that she would be back with Ann later.

When Lynn found Ann, she was on her second jack and coke. She was still crying. “Ann?”
“What is going on?”
“”I wish I could tell you.”
“Who was that?”
Lynn thought about telling Ann the whole story, but she thought Gerry should tell her, so she lied. “I don’t know.”
Ann began to cry even harder. Lynn wanted to tell it was going to be okay, but she couldn’t. so Lynn just held her. “I need another drink,” Ann said when she had stopped crying.
“No you do not. You need to come with me.”
“No. I am gonna stay here a get drunk.”
“Fine. I guess I will just have to drink with you.”
For the next few hours Lynn watched Ann drink herself into a stupor. Eventually Ann forgot that she was mad and let loose. Finally around 3AM, Lynn pulled Ann out of the bar and shoved her into a cab. When they got back to the hotel, Lynn told Brendan to sleep on the couch. She left Ann on the bed and went into Gerry's room. He was wide awake. “Ger I need something to put Ann in to sleep.”
“Is she okay?”
“Yeah, just a little drunk. She will be fine in the morning.”
“Was she mad?”
“You were when it happened to you.”
“Good point. Did you tell her?”
“No, I thought I would leave that up to you.”
“Oh.”
“Just give her some time. She will understand, I hope.” Lynn went back into the living room, kissed Brendan goodnight and went into to change Ann.
“I hate him,” Ann said in a drunken whisper.
“I know. Just try to get some sleep.”

The morning came and Gerry woke up from the worst night’s sleep he had ever had. He kept tossing and turning all night. He walked into the living room to find that Lynn and Brendan were gone. They left a note saying they would be back later. Gerry sat down and turned on the TV. To be completely honest he wasn’t really paying attention. He just needed something to do to keep his mind off of Ann.
A few hours later, as Gerry sat staring out of the window, the door to Lynn’s room opened. Gerry whipped his head around to see Ann standing in the doorway. She looked as thought she was going to cry. With a broken voice, Gerry began to speak. “Ann please let me ex…”
“I don’t want to hear anything from you!” Ann screamed as she ran across the room, through her and Gerry's room and into the bathroom.
“Please just listen to me.” Gerry was now on the other side of the bathroom door.
“No! How could you? How could you do that in front of me?”
“I didn’t want to kiss her.”
“But you did. You kissed her.” Ann began crying.
It broke Gerry's heart to hear her crying like that. He finally knew how she felt a few months before when she came to LA. “Please Ann, just lis…”
“Listen to what? To you making excuses like ‘I didn’t want to kiss her,’ and that your sorry. Just leave me alone.”
Gerry listened to her crying for a minuet. “Ann you can't keep doing this. I made a mistake. I know I did. But you have to just listen to me.”
“Why?”
“Ann, just shut up and listen to me!” Gerry yelled at her through the door. Ann was a little frightened by this. She stopped crying. She wanted to say something, but something inside told her to just listen. She sat with her back on the edge of the tub.
Gerry didn’t know where to begin. He wanted to tell her, but he didn’t know how. He slid his back down the door to the bathroom, coming to a rest on the floor. He put his head in his hands, took a deep breath, and told Ann everything.
When he got to the part about last night, when Liana walked away and he looked up to see Ann, he broke down into tears. “I saw the look on your face, and, and I thought you would never speak to me again. I thought when you ran out of the restaurant that you were running out of my life.”
By this time, Ann realized that it was all a big mistake and that she had overreacted yet again. She knew now who the woman was and forgiven him for kissing her. But now she was crying too. “I thought I was going to loose you,” she heard Gerry sob through the door. “I don’t know who I would be with out you.”
At that moment, Ann pulled the door open and Gerry fell backwards. Ann was standing above him with tears on her cheek and a smile on her face. Gerry sat up and turned around and Ann fell into his arms. As Gerry clung to her, she kissed him on the forehead and said, “It is gonna take a lot more than ex-lovers to break us up.”
They spent the rest of the afternoon making love to each other. It was some of the most peaceful sex either of them had ever had. When they collapsed in one another’s arms, a tear ran down Gerry's cheek. “Why you cryin’?” Ann asked.
“Because you’re beautiful.”
“I know,” she replied with a smirk. That smirk incited a serious tickling war. When Lynn and Brendan got back to the hotel, all they could hear from the other room was a mass of giggling.
“Thank God,” Lynn said. “She listened to him.”
