"Cause someday maybe
Somebody will love me like I need,
And someday I won't have to prove
'Cause somebody will see
all my worth, but until then
I'll do just fine on my own."

"Party time," Kelly smiled as she got into Carrie's car which was parked in front of her house.
"Not yet," Carrie smiled back. "Just a meeting for the party."
"What do you think it'll be like?"
"The meeting? Probably just as awkward and uncomfortable as the last," Carrie replied, pulling onto the road.
"No," Kelly laughed. "The thing this weekend. I mean, how formal is it? Is it like a dinner or a party?"
"Those are probably questions you should've asked a couple weeks ago."
"And you did?"
"It's a semi-formal dinner," Carrie smirked. "My manager found out for me. Don't you need an outfit?"
"I still have like what? Four days? Besides, obviously I'm not that picky."
"True," Carrie nodded, thinking of some of Kelly's rather...brave fashion choices.
"So, still feeling the tension?" Kelly grinned.
"Who said tension? I think I said awkward."
"Trust me, I know tension when I see it, and you two...I swear I'm waiting for the two of you to just start going at it in a meeting while I'm sitting right there."
"I'd be you'd get a kick out of watching," Carrie teased.
"Sorry, I'm more of a hands on type of person."
Carrie laughed, "Good to know."

"So, I thought we could just go over some of the basics for the party this weekend," Michael explained as they sat around his desk. "First, we were able to get this really great up and coming artist that agreed to do the show for free. They thought it would be great publicity."
"If you needed a singer, we would've been glad to--" Kelly began.
"Wouldn't that defeat the purpose of the concert?"
"Oh yea," she smiled. "You're good."
He laughed, "Well, I'm kinda making this up as we go. But also, we were talking, and we have a small request for the two of you..."
"Ok?" Carrie asked.
"There is gonna be a red carpet before the event as there will be other stars and such there. And as you two are the main focus of the campaign, we were wondering if it would be too much hassle for you two to go dateless?"
"Dateless?"
"It's just that you two are both highly publisized artists, and we're afraid that if you show up with someone on your arm, the focus might turn to that instead of what the night is really about. Instead, maybe you two could arrive together?" he suggested hesitantly.
Kelly frowned, "I already promised my brother and a couple of our friends they could come. You said we were welcome to invite whomever."
"You are, you are," Michael replied, quickly. "We just want the main focus on the two of you and the campaign, that's all. But don't worry, whoever you invite is free to go."
"We?" Carrie asked curiously.
"Um, yea, me and the other members on the board for this event," he said, fidgeting with his tie.
"Alright," she shrugged. "It's no big deal."
"Good," he smiled.

"You know," Carrie said as they walked down the hall together. "You didn't have to seem so excited about the idea of us going together."
"Sorry," Kelly smiled apologetically. "I've just been in that situation before where I thought I could bring somebody, but turns out they weren't famous enough or whatever to get in."
"Ouch," Carrie scrunched her nose.
"It's whatever," she shrugged. "I just didn't go at all. Their loss."
"So, it's not the thought of me being your date that pissed you off?"
Kelly laughed, "Definitely not. I would be honored to be your date."
"Good, cause people would die for that job, you know?"
"I'm sure they would," Kelly soothed, patting her arm. "Besides, it's not like I had an actual date anyway. Like I said, I'm going with my brother. Plus, I'm sure I'd have more fun with you than some stinky boy anyway."
Carrie laughed, "Does this mean I have to get you flowers or something?"
"No, but you're taking care of the limo."
"Uh," Carrie scoffed. "This coming from the girl who's sold over ten million more albums than me."
"Yea, cause we get so much money off of albums," Kelly rolled her eyes.
"Ok, this coming from the girl who does absolutely nothing but tour three hundred sixty two out of three hundred sixty five days a year."
"Pretty much," Kelly grinned.
"And I know how much money you make a tour. You forget I do this too."
"It's not the money, you nerd. Trust me, I'll gladly pay for everything that night if you want. I just don't want to deal with those people. They're always so rude."
"Are you insinuating that I can't pay for myself?" Carrie raised an eyebrow.
Kelly pushed her playfully, "You are so...ugh!"
Carrie laughed again, wrapping an arm around her shoulders, "No, I just like messing with you."
"How about we don't do a limo at all?"
"And what? Walk?"
"No, I mean, they want the focus to be on us and the campaign, so why not make a grand entrance?"
"Helicopter?" Carrie suggested.
"Yes, Carrie, we're going to land a helicopter on the red carpet."
"It's just a suggestion," she blushed.
"And it was a good one," Kelly assured her, sorry for hurting her feelings. "And if we ever attend an event that we can pull it off, we're so gonna arrive in a helicopter."
"Cool," she smiled.
"By the way, was I the only one getting the feeling that this wasn't really about keeping the attention on us, so much as--"
"Michael not wanting to see me with another date?" Carrie finished her thought. "Yea, I got that too."
"Poor guy," Kelly shook her head, grinning. "You so broke his heart."
"Did not," Carrie argued.
"I mean, what does he have to live for now that his soul mate completely crushed him like a semi running over some poor baby bunny in the middle of the road."
Carrie's mouth fell, "I did not, and I am not his soul mate."
"He's gonna be in therapy till he's like fifty," Kelly said in mock sadness. "Such a shame. He was such a sweet guy when we met him."
"Shut up," Carrie fussed, hitting her arm. "Take it back."
"Alright, alright," Kelly rubbed her arm, still smiling broadly. "I take it back. But I do have an idea for our ride."
"Really? What is it?"
"A surprise," Kelly shrugged, pulling out her phone as it started to vibrate. She looked to find a new text from Graham. She felt Carrie's hand brush hers as they walked side by side, and she deleted the message without even reading it.
Carrie smiled, wrapping her arms around the Texan's shoulders once more, "Just a hint?"
"Nope," Kelly laughed, pretending to zip her mouth closed.
