Chapter 36: Taking care of business
For the next week, Glenn and I basically did nothing but fuck, screw make love, whatever you wanna call it, we had sex. A LOT! He called my doctor the day after the wedding and asked if anything would hurt the baby at this stage. Apparently Lucky confirmed that so long as we weren’t trying to kill each other while we were going at it and weren’t overly rough, then it would be fine.
“Regular, you be ok. No fancy things, eh Mister Glenn. No try to poke a hole in Missus.”
So from Wednesday to the next Monday, Glenn and I went at it, not constantly, but a lot. At one point, Sunday morning I think, Glenn ended up throwing the phone across the room because it kept ringing. Turned out to be his dad, who came over later that day with Catherine. They came over to check on us because we were out of contact for so long, they were worried. We didn’t hear them, we were in bed going at it, thankfully with the covers partially on for once.
Unfortunately, I was on top when David decided to walk in and find out what was going on. He kinda yelped and ran out of the room as Glenn and I looked to see him leave, Gator right on his heels. Kinda killed the mood, so Glenn and I got a shower and went to be social for a while. David felt really bad and highly embarrased about the whole thing. Glenn figured he’s better get used to it and start locking the door. “Because, eventually we’ll have a little one walking in on us if we don’t. Dad, at least I don’t have to explain it to you.”
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
On Tuesday, about seven in the morning, Glenn got me up out of bed and told me to get ready, that we had appointments. I looked at him sideways as he set down a glass of orange juice and some bread.
“What kind of appointments?”
“We’ve got an appointment with Lucky at three for your first prenatal. And one with the lawyer at nine.”
I blinked as I bit into the muffin, giving him half. “Lawyer?”
He kissed me and took a bite of muffin, and smiled. “Gotta amend my will and get one for you. Dangerous Jobs, remember?”
I nodded remembering a talk we had a month or so ago, just before we found out about the baby. We were going to get Glenn’s lawyer to write up a will for me and amend his, so if something happened to us after the baby was born, Catherine, David and Dad would have custody of the baby. That and I had to get papers filed, finally, on the land Glenn had gotten for Gypsy and Bumblebee. Dad was bringing the both of them up this weekend, so everything had to be set so they could move into their new home.
We got to the lawyer’s office around 8:45. We were early but he didn’t have another appointment so his secretary led us in.
“Mr. Hewitt will in in a few minutes, Mr. and Mrs. Jacobs. Please make yourself comfortable.”
I took a seat next to the huge oak desk in front of me, smiling at Glenn as he looked over at me. “Hey Susnshine, what are you smiling at?”
“I like being called Mrs. Jacobs.”
“Get used to it baby, ‘cause your stuck with me.”
“I can live with that.”
I leaned over to kiss him, but stopped as I heard the door behind us open. Glenn stood up and smiled, shaking the hand of a handsome young man with medium dark skin and light green eyes. He looked at me as they greeted each other like old friends, putting a hand out to me.
“And this must be Mrs. Jacobs.”
Glenn nodded as I shook his hand. “Yeah. Faith, this is Darby Hewitt. I graduated from Truman State with him.”
“Pleasure to meet you Mr. Hewitt.”
He shook his head. “Please, call me Darby. If you don’t mind can I call you, Faith? I’ve been on a first name basis with most of my clients for so long that its very strange for anyone to call me Mr. Hewitt.” I nodded, saying that was fine. He went on, addressing Glenn.
“Ok Jacobs, what do we need today, other than the wills?”
Glenn pulled out the folder with the land deed for the farmhouse and land for the horses. “I need this filed as soon as ya can. I finally got the seller to close about a month ago. I wanted to house fixed up and Fay’s dad is bringing down her horses on Friday. I need a deed by then.”
He nodded, taking the paperwork. “Eh, this is easy. Should have it by tommorrow. What else?”
I swear we went through a whole list of stuff Glenn wanted Darby to work on for him. Some of it was for the Myra thing, like getting a restraining order on her for me and the baby, as well as his parents. He got the house changed to have my name put on it as well as his. He wanted to get two five million dollar life insurance policies on each of us. Darby said he could take care of that, then looked at his notes looking confused. “What about the trust fund? Do you want a name on it yet?”
I looked at him confused. He smiled, explaining it to me. “Myra did have a pregnancy scare when we had been married for about a year. I set up a trust fund in my name and the name of ‘Baby Jacobs’. I never told her about it and never put her name on it. She turned out to not be pregnant and then she started cheating on me shortly thereafter. She knows nothing about it. Thing has probably grown a good amount since I made the account.”
He looked at Darby, who pulled out a bunch of bank statements from a file next to his desk. “Started with one million dollars, at 10 percent interest a year. Been about 6 years now. Probably worth a million and a half or more now.”
I looked at Glenn, mouth gaping. “What are you looking at me like that for Fay?”
“Now I know how you could afford that wedding.”
He smiled at me, taking my hand in his and kissing it. “Like I told my grandmother, I am a wrestler because I can take care of my family the way I want to. I don’t want you to go without.”
I looked at Darby, pointing to Glenn. “Humble, aint he?”
He laughed as he pulled out papers from Glenn’s files. “If ya think he’s a good wrestler, watch him play ball. Son of a snake can play.”
“Bull shit Darby, you beat me everytime.”
He laughed as he finally set out the paperson his desk. “You and me Jacobs, we’ll play one day. Alright. Now. How do we want to fix this will?”
For the next hour we went over Glenn’s will, then mine. In short, if something happened to the other, the survivor would get everything and take care of the baby and any other children we had. If something happened to both of us, Catherine and David would get custody along with my dad, residential would be with Catherine and David, Dad being allowed to see them anytime he wanted.
We finally got everything hashed out. Glenn was satisfied with every thing and I was just tired. We left with Darby, who was headed to the courthouse to file all our papers and get the deed to the houses registered.
It was about one in the afternoon when we left and I begged Glenn to take me out to eat. “Food, hungry mother.”
“Ok ya savage. Where do you want to eat?”
“Show me a Wendy’s drive-thru!” He started laughing at me for being a cheap date, untilI jumped on his back, demanding I wanted Wendy’s. “I want a triple cheeseburger with everything, fries and a Frosty.”
Finally, he conceeded, taking me to the nearest Wendy’s so I could eat before my doctor’s appointment. I sat down and practically inhaled the cheeseburger.
“Who’s got a tapeworm now?” He laughed at me as I flipped him the bird.
“Blow me. I got a baby.”
“Oh Excuses, Excuses.” I gave him an ugly look as I grabbed a good amount of fries and put them in my Frosty. “You aren’t.”
I ignored him as I ate the concoction. I swear he turned green as I literally kept eating fries covered in chocolate milkshake. I looked over to him and asked if he was gonna eat his. He shook his head.
“I got a question to ask the doctor while were there. Don’t let me forget.”
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Two hours later, I was sitting in in exam room with Glenn, filling out family history and freezing my ass off, literally. The back of the hospital gown didn’t want to stay closed and the air-conditioner was on. T’was Cold!
“Ok anything run in your family?” He looked up at me for a minute while I thought, trying to keep my backside from freezing off.
“Mom’s side is cancer, Dad’s is diabetes and heart disease. Mostly in the men. You?”
He nodded. “Cancer, It’s how my grandpa died.” He looked down at the paper, thinking. I wondered if I shoulld have kept my mouth shut about his Mom, but I just blurted it out.
“What about your siblings? And your Mom?”
He looked up at me, a definate look of alarm on his face. “Mom tell you about that?” I nodded. He shook his head. “I should have told you, shouldn’t I?”
“Why did she lose them? Do you know?”
He nodded. “She told me right before we got engaged. Goes back to cancer, she had like precancerous fibroids or something. She had to be laying down ninety nine percent of the time to keep me.”
“So it’s nothing I have to worry about, nothing genetic.”
He smiled at me, taking my hand and rubbing my knuckles. “Not unless it runs in your family. Let’s hope we don’t have to worry about it from your side. Probably should ask the Doc to be safe.”
We sat in silence for a minute, just looking at each other. Finally Glenn stood up and wrapped his arms around me, burying his face in my shoulder and holding me tight. “We won’t lose our baby. If it kills me, we won’t. Nothing will happen to our baby.”
I kissed him, knowing he was reassured at least by that. He stood up straight and grabbed the cllipboard to finish filling out the forms. We went over everything we could think of, from thinking about every minute medical problem anyone we are related to had, to him telling me that Matt and Jeff were not genetic abnormalities.
About twenty minutes later, Lucky walked in with a young brunette. Her nametag read Dr. Moreno. Lucky shook our hands and introduced the young doctor to the both of us.
“Mister Glenn, Missus Faith, this Dr. Lori Moreno. She will be taking over for me for you. She is very good, yes.”
Glenn scowled. “Lucky, Why is Dr. Moreno taking over? I thought you were going to go through with Faith…”
Lucky shook his head. “I cannot. I liked to yes, but I am retiring. Dr. Lori. She be better I think. Missus Faith would rather have woman who knows what’s doing. Yes?”
I was just kinda shocked, but said that was fine, I understood Lucky wouldn’t make it all the way. He left, leaving Glenn, Dr. Moreno and I in the room to get acquainted.
“Mr. and Mrs. Jacobs, I am sorry for Lucky being so abrupt about all this. He was diagnosed with cancer and decided to retire about a week ago. I told him I would take over a few of his patients for him.”
She went on to tell us about her background, that she had three kids of her own and know how it felt to be in my position. I liked her the minute she told me she knew how nervous I was. She asked us just to call her Dr. Lori and that she wanted us to all be a team for this. “I call myself a birth assistant rather than a OBGYN. I just help you out and get you through everything. You and Glenn will be doing the majority of the work. I’ll be there to make sure nothing happens. You two get the credit of delivering your own child. I find many fathers recently have expressed wanting to deliver their own children. I see nothing wrong with it.” Glenn apparently was very intrigued by this and asked how he would go about it. She told him they woud figure it out closer to the time for the delivery, probably around the six month mark.
She took the clipboard and went over all of our genetic factors, all the diseases our family members had and asked if we have any questions. “You both have an increased cancer risk, but other than that youre good. Anything else?”
Glenn held my hand as he asked about whether or not we should be worried about the fact his mom had lost so many pregnancies. She shook her head and said no. “Unless your Mom had any problems with it Faith.”
“No, she had Matt and Jeff and me. No problems as far as I know.”
Lori nodded, looking at the papers again. “I’d be more worried If she had. Now any daughters you have might have a risk, but it’s a slim one. Precancerous fibroids are not really common. Very random, not really genetic. You two should be fine. Anything else?”
Glenn smirked and said he had a question about what I was eating. “How long is she going to have these weird cravings?” Lori asked what he meant by weird carvings and he told her about fries and Frosty earlier. “I know she’ll have them, but for how long?”
“Probably until the end of the pregnancy. And I have seen some men have them right along side their partners. There is such a thing as sympathy pregnancy, you might go through some of the same things at the end of all of this. Might as well get used to it, Glenn. For the next year or so, she’s going to want to eat things that don’t exactly fit together in your mind. And Faith, You’ll do it because youll be trying to fulfill something lacking in your diet. Most likely a vitamin or nutrient. It might continue into the nursing stage. So long as it isn’t harmful or anything then you can have it. Anything else?”
Since we had no more questions, she went for the kits to take blood and the pelvic exam. I knew about the exam and the blood test and was not looking forward to either. Glenn knew I was freaking out a bit, but kept his mouth shut. By the time Lori came back with the nurse for the blood draws I was shaking pretty bad. Lori thought I was having a fit or something, and asked Glenn what was wrong.
“She hates needles.”
I nodded, backing away from the nurse who now held a very small butterfly needle in her hands, as well as a tourniquet and three vials.
Big ass vials….
Lori looked down at my ankle where my black and red roses were and smiled. “Needed a needle to do those and your ears, Faith. Come on.”
I backed up into the wall, shaking my head. “Hell No!”
Glenn grabbed my arm, tight enough to get my attention. “Hey. Calm down okay. It will not hurt. It didn’t hurt when Petit got your leg remember? Come on. I had to give blood at my last screening and you did too.”
Lori looked at me and Glenn confused. “Drug Screening?”
Glenn smirked as I breathed trying to calm down. “We both work for the WWE. Drug screenings are random. Hey. Sunshine. Come here. Let’s get this over with.” He pulled me over and sat me on his lap, holding my head. “If ya cant see it, ya wont flip out on me huh?” I nodded and felt Lori and the nurse take my arm, the tourniquet strap going around my upper arm.
Glenn held my head and talked to me, keeping my head from moving as the needle hit my arm. I almost moved it up, until I felt his hand grab my wrist and hold it still. “Don’t move Faith.” I bit the inside of my cheek to keep from moving until they were done. Even though I was pretty hydrated, they couldn’t find a vein. When they finally did, Lori took off the tourniquet and let the blood flow. All three Vials were filled, Lori telling Glenn what each was for and trying to talk to me to keep me from losing it.
“Ok, first one. Blood type, Rh factor, and antibody screen. Glenn you probably need to get a blood type and Rh screening performed at your doctor. Done. Hand me the next one Nancy. Ok you two. Second one I’m taking is for the complete Blood count. Ok. Next one. This one is the last I promise.”
“What’s it for?” Glenn looked over while she finished up, putting a cotton ball on my arm and telling me to hold it.
“STD test. HIV, Syphillis, All forms of Hepatitis. We need to make sure she’s got an immunity to Rubella and Toxoplasmosis.” Glenn looked alarmed as I looked up at him, until Lori put her hands up. “It’s all completely routine. Everyone gets checked. I’m pretty sure She’ll be fine. Faith, I’ve looked at your shot record. Youre caught up on everything, so you should be good. I’ll give you a minute to recover from the blood test, get ya some juice or something and come back. When I do, be forewarned, the pelvic exam isnt great either. No needles, I assure you though. Give me five minutes.”
She left, leaving me to look at my arm, which was bruising from he search for a vein. The nurse put a cotton ball and bandaid on my arm before she took the vials to be sent off. I went over and sat on the exam table, not looking at Glenn. I kinda rocked back and forth as we waited, watching from the corner of my eye to see my husband walk over and stand in front of me. I felt his arms go around me as I sat there, feeling stupid for being scared of a needle.
“I have to do that again don’t I?”
“Probably.”
“I looked like an idiot.”
“You looked like you wanted to kick her. What is the needle thing for?”
“Feels like a beesting.”
“Yeah….”
I looked up at him, swinging my feet between his legs. “When I was little, there was a beehive next to the door at my Dad’s house. I walked straight into it when I was about three. I have a fear of anything that stings and bees especially since then.”
He looked confused. “Tattoos and ears?”
“Jeff got me drunk before the one on my leg, same with my ears. Twenty-first birthday present. Mark let me take a couple of whiskey shots before he did my back. I was pretty gone for all of em.”
He smiled at me as he looked down at my ankle. “Woman, you are insane.”
I smirked and play nipped at him. “You knew that when you asked me to marry you.”
His lips met mine as he spoke. “Damn right. Wouldn’t trade ya for anything.”
“Ahem.”
Glenn turned to see Lori standing in the doorway, beaming at the both of us. “Lucky was right. You two are totally devoted.” I smirked as she grabbed a pair of gloves and the speculum. I groaned, knowing what was coming next. “Glenn. You might want to go and stand by Faith’s head. Here comes the other not-so-fun part.”
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
When we got home around five, I was walking funny and Glenn had a new respect for what a woman had to go through. Something about a prostate exam being a whole new different ballgame. He was kinda ecstatic though, since he got to feel the newly forming bump. Lori showed him exactly where the baby was at, letting him feel from the top of my pelvic bone where it was. He said couldn’t really feel it, and it was barely there. Lori explained it was only about an inch long right now, but would be growing by leaps and bounds in the coming weeks.
She had asked a few more questions and gave us an exact due date, December 1st. “You will probably go a bit before that or a day or two afterward. For a month before you’ll be here every week to three days so we can watch your progress.”
She had given us a list of things I needed to eat and told Glenn to get me a lot of prenatal vitamins. “Take them even after you’ve given birth. Until youre done nursing.” That, along with all the other things we needed to do, filled a folder Glenn was keeping for each of my prenatal visits, which were already scheduled up until I was seven months. I was going to be there every three weeks from now until I was 30 weeks along. For almost the next eight months I would be going to the doctor a lot, and Glenn would be going right along with me. He promised he would go, and not just so I wouldn’t kick the nurse when I had to ‘donate’ blood.
He would also be there when I had my first ‘real’ sonogram at 20 weeks. He inisited he wanted to know what we were having. He was anxious to wait the eleven weeks until then. I had to keep reminding him I was only about nine weeks along and that this was going to be an ultimate test of his patience.
I went upstairs to take a bath and relax, calming down finally from the trauma of dealing with needles. I was going to have to get over it, but didn’t have to deal with it right now. I was just diggin’ my nice warm lavender bath, when I heard a knock on the bathroom door.
“Glenn?”
“No, it’s me.”
I grabbed my robe and let Catherine in. She sat down in the chair Glenn had next to the vanity and smiled. I asked what was going on as she put down a bag from Borders.
“David and I wanted to get something to help you two out. We know you are going to travel just until you can announce it to the world on RAW so we got something for you to read.” She handed me the bag and wiped a tear from her eye. “I’m sorry I’m crying, I’m just so happy about the whole thing.”
I opened it up and pulled out a copy of ‘What to Expect When You’re Expecting’, the book Glenn had talked about getting ever since we found out. I thanked her for it, giving her a hug and then sitting down and thumbing through it.
She was glad I liked it since I just sat down and started reading. She asked how I was doing, knowing that about a week ago I had really bad morning sickness and Glenn had apparently told her about the Frosty ordeal.
“I’m fine, Glenn learned if he gave me something as soon as I woke up, I don’t get sick. Every morning for the last few days he has brought me something to eat before I get out of bed. He’s been really sweet about it. I feel bad for him though. He’s in honeymoon mode, with me and with the pregnancy. He hasn’t seen all the mood swings yet, or the crankiness….”
“I don’t think it’ll bother him. He’s probably expecting it. He’ll be understanding. He wants this baby as much as you do. If not, he’ll get over it. Men do, once they see that little baby of theirs.”
I nodded, still wondering about some things. Catherine left me to finish my bath, saying Glenn had dinner almost ready. I could smell the spagetti, meatballs and garlic bread he was making downstairs, getting hungry. I said I’d be right down. Knowing I was going to have to fight Glenn over a good portion of that meal.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Later that night, Glenn and I were actually just sitting on the couch, vegging out. Neither of us felt like doing anything for once. The whole pelvic exam thing still apparently still bothering him more than me. I didn’t want it because I was just tired. So instead we chilled out, eating popcorn and orange juice and watching a DVD. He had his hand on my stomach, munching on some cheese popcorn. I looked up him, laying my head on his shoulder as I spoke to him.
“You wont be disappointed will you?”
“Huh?”
He looked down at me as I turned around to look him in the eye. I straddled his legs and held his hands as I asked the question again, making myself more clear.
“You wont disappointed if the baby is a girl will you?” I looked him right in the eye, letting him know I was dead serious.
“Why would I be disappointed in my own child?” He moved his hands down and held onto my hips as I sat there, him looking at me like I was crazy. “Why would you even ask?”
“Because your family is going to be if I don’t have a boy.”
He shook his head and moved his hands up to my shoulders. “Ok. I will only say this once Faith. I do not give a shit what my family thinks. If they don’t like it they can kiss my ass. We could have fifteen girls and I would be just as happy. In fact if you want the truth…” He pulled me down to him, making me yelp as he kissed me hard on the lips. He pulled away smiling and leaving me breathless. “I want a baby girl.”
I leaned into him, smiling. “I still get to give her my mom’s name?”
He nodded. “I was thinking Catherine for my Mom, Ruby for yours. Catherine Ruby Jacobs. If it is a girl.”
I layed on my side next to him on the couch, thinking about how it sounded. “Cat. Or Kitty when she’s younger. Deal. I already know the name if it’s a boy then.”
“And what is that? David Gilbert, just to make it even?”
“Nope.” I looked up at him, tapping him on the nose and giving him a light kiss in the same spot. “Glenn Thomas Jacobs Jr.”
“Oh Hell No youre not!” He gave me a mean look, sitting up to scowl at me. “I am not saddling a child with the name Glenn. Too much heartache and a headache. Besides, I don’t want my son thinking you are calling for him to do something, when you are in the throes of passion with me. No Dice Sunshine.”
I sat up, putting my hands on my hips and making myself look as angry as possible. “I like the name Glenn.”
“I said no, Faith. Unless he’s got a completely different Nickname I will not name my son after me.”
I turned back away from him, sulking, looking up at the fireplace where Glenn’s silver stein was, with our last name.
“Jacobs… Wait. Jake. I want to name him Glenn Thomas, but we’ll call him Jake. Fair enough? That way there is no confusion, he’ll know what his given name is but well just insist everyone call him by his nickname. Is that alright with you?”
He had to think about it for a minute. He finally agreed to it though.
“Fine. If it’s a girl Catherine Ruby. If it’s a boy Glenn Thomas.” He rolled me over, playfighting me for a minute. “But I don’t care whether or not it a girl or a boy. I want a healthy happy baby. That’s all that matters.”
