Kelly rang the doorbell as she stood beside Ashley outside Jill and Kate's front door.
Kate opened the door, offering a smile, "Hey."
"I brought some wine," Ashley held out the bottle.
Kate took it appreciatively, "Thanks."
"And in case, we're already past the wine stage, I also brought some liquor," she held out the bottle of whiskey.
Kate giggled, motioning for them to come in, "I think wine's gonna be fine for now."
"Hi," Kelly smiled as she followed Ashley in.
"Hi," Kate smiled back, blushing as Kelly reached up, kissing her cheek. "Sorry I left in such a hurry this morning."
"It's ok," Kelly assured, unable to fight back a grin as Kate's blush deepened when she slid their hands together. They made their way to the living room where Ashley had already pulled out the wine glasses. "So how's it going, girl?" Kelly asked Jill who was curled up in the corner of the sofa.
"I'm so stupid," Jill shook her head.
"That's pretty much all she says," Kate whispered, leaning down to Kelly's ear. "That and 'What the hell was I thinking?'."
"Everybody makes mistakes, hun," Ashley replied as she took the wine bottle back from Kate and uncorked it, pouring Jill a glass.
Jill took it, taking a sip.
"It happens, you know? But if this is meant to be, then you just gotta believe that Meghan is gonna find it in her heart to forgive you."
"And what if she doesn't?" Jill looked up at her worriedly.
"Then it's gonna be hard, but you're gonna have to move on and mark this as a lesson learned."
"But I can't move on...she's the one," Jill confided, her eyes welling up.
"Has she already had something to drink?" Ashley asked softly as she turned to Kate.
Kate shook her head, "No, but she ate the entire thing of brownies."
Ashley nodded, turning back to Jill, "Well, if she's...the one...then you just have to have some faith in her that she's a big enough person to get past this and give you a second chance."
"Have you talked to her today?" Kelly asked curiously.
Jill shook her head, "She said she didn't want to speak to me again."
"She was just upset," Kelly assured. "Why don't you give her some time this morning to cool off a bit, and try giving her a call later this afternoon so y'all can talk on a calmer level, ok?"
Jill nodded.
"How about we play a couple games or something to get our minds off this for now?" she suggested.
"Good idea," Ashley agreed, making her way to the game cabinet.
Kate squeezed Kelly's hand, getting the Texan to turn to her, "Thanks for this."
"Jill's our friend too, you know? We hate seeing her like this just as much as you."
Kate smiled, kissing her forehead.
Kelly stroked her thumb over the taller girl's as she turned back to the others, "So what's first?"
"Candyland," Ashley declared. "I think you have a little revenge coming your way after last time we played."
"Oh...game on, bitch," Kelly grinned, tugging Kate with her as she sat on the floor in front of the coffee table.
Kate giggled, keeping her hand intertwined with Kelly's as Ashley started to set up the game, loving the thought that now when she held it, it meant something. She wasn't just holding it just to hold it, she was holding it because they were together now, they were connected, linked. She felt herself blushing at her own corniness.
"What's going on in the crazy mind of yours?" Kelly questioned.
"I'll tell you later," she smiled softly.
Kelly brought her hand up to her lips, kissing her fingers as Ashley rolled the dice to see who would go first.

Kelly walked along the dresser, trailing her finger along the edging as she looked over the pictures that stood in the frames on top of it.
"So this is where you disappeared to..."
Kelly smiled softly, hearing Kate close the bedroom door before walking over to join her."Your family is adorable," she noted, picking up one of the pictures to take a closer look.
"Yea, they're pretty great," Kate agreed, enjoying the peaceful mood the Texan seemed to be in.
"You miss them?"
"Yea, but I'm used to it. I haven't actually lived there in a few years."
Kelly nodded, putting the picture back on the dresser.
"So...this is an awfully long bathroom break you're taking."
She laughed softly, "Yea, I needed to stretch my legs for a bit."
"Jill passed out on the sofa."
"Not surprising. She nearly cleaned off that entire bottle by herself."
Kate smiled, "Thanks again for coming over."
"It's no big deal," she shrugged.
"Yes it is, and it was really sweet of you two."
"It's...with my job, it's hard to be a good friend. I'm not able to be there for my friends back home when I need to be. So for once, it's nice to be able to be there."
Kate wrapped her arm around Kelly's back, pulling the shorter girl to her.
Kelly took a releaxed breath as she rested her head in the crook of Kate's neck.
"This is nice."
"Very."
Kate tilted her head down, kissing the top of her forehead softly.
"I know I didn't give you a proper answer last night...about the girlfriend question," Kelly began thoughtfully.
"It's ok. I rushed things. I just...old habits die hard," she bit her bottom lip at the nervous giggle that escaped.
"I just wanted to explain," Kelly replied. "I've liked you for so long, and then now all of a sudden...I just need some time to wrap my head around it, and--"
"You didn't think this would ever happen?" Kate asked curiously.
"I didn't let myself think that this would ever happen."
"Why not?"
"Because it would hurt too much when it didn't."
Kate brushed her lips lightly across her forehead again, "Then why didn't you try dating someone else?"
"Because every girl I saw, I compared to you...none of them came close."
"You're too sweet, sometimes," Kate wrapped her other arm around her, hugging her.
"It's the truth," Kelly replied honestly.
Kate shook her head, "I just don't understand how someone with the attention span of a two year old--especially when it comes to dating--managed to stay..."
"Enthralled?"
"Ok..." Kate nodded at Kelly's soft giggle. "How someone like that managed to stay enthralled for so long."
"Well, it's not by choice," Kelly teased.
Kate laughed, kissing the top of her head. "Why me?" she asked softly into her hair after a moment of easy silence.
"You have no idea how many nights I spent lying awake, asking myself that same question," Kelly admitted.
Kate pulled back just enough to be able to look down at her.
"Why you?" Kelly's eyebrows furrowed in thought as she stared at Kate's t-shirt. "Why did it have to be you? Why couldn't it be somebody I didn't work with? Why couldn't it be somebody that wasn't straight? Why did it have to be someone that was clearly so far out of my league? Why did it have to be the one girl that I could never have?"
"But you can have me," Kate pointed out gently. "You do...you do have me."
"That's the other reason," Kelly looked up at her with a soft smile.
"Other reason for what?"
"The other reason why I didn't give you a real answer yesterday. I don't want you to rush things. This is a big deal. It is a huge deal, and I wish it weren't...God, I wish it weren't," Kelly shook her head, reaching up to cradle Kate's cheek with her hand. "It sure as hell shouldn't be, but that's nothing we can change right now, so the fact remains that it is. So, you need to think hard about this and make sure that this is something you want because it is so not worth it if you realize otherwise later on down the road."
"But I have thought about it," Kate protested.
Kelly moved her hand, placing her fingers over Kate's lips to silence her, "I am willing to do anything you need. I will gladly take you out to let you see what it's like. It would be my honor to just casually date you to give you more time to think. It's just that before you go asking for a real, full-on relationship, I want you to be one hundred percent sure, ok?"
Kate nodded.
"I just..." Kelly glanced to the side at the picture of Kate's family on the dresser. "There's a lot that goes with it. It isn't as simple as dating a guy, you know? And I just don't want you to go through any unnecessary pain if this isn't what you truly want."
"I understand," she nodded again.
"And is that ok?" Kelly looked back up at her, her thumb brushing back and forth over the blonde's bottom lip.
"Of course," Kate replied sincerely.
"Good."
"Thanks for caring enough about me to look out for me," she smiled sweetly. "I doubt most people would do that."
"That smile," Kelly shook her head. "Man, it kills me."
Kate giggled, blushing as Kelly's fingers slid back along her jawline.
"You're so cute," Kelly's voice was barely above a whisper as she drew her closer.
"You need a new pick-up line," Kate tried to tease as her cheeks turned a deeper shade of red.
"Ok..." Kelly took a deep breath as she looked her in the eyes. "You are so beautiful."
"That'll work," Kate's heart raced as Kelly reached up on her toes. "I don't think I realized until now how long I wanted you to do this..."
"I, um...I swore I wouldn't make the first move with you," she admitted.
"What if I want you to?"
Kelly hesitated, one hand cradling the taller girl's face, the other resting lightly on her hip, her legs starting to shake slightly from reaching up on her toes too long.
"What if I need you to?" Kate swallowed hard.
Kelly nodded, drawing her even closer as she leaned forward, watching Kate's eyes close just before she pressed their lips together lightly. She pulled back, barely an inch, and studied Kate carefully.
Her eyes were still closed and she wasn't backing away, which Kelly took as a good sign, so she leaned in again, kissing her once more. She parted her lips slightly, taking Kate's bottom lip in between both of her own, kissing her gently. Slowly, she felt Kate start to kiss her back, causing her blood to rush. She pulled back carefully, once again gauging the blonde's reaction.
Kate let out a slow breath.
"How...was that...how do I ask if that was ok without making it sound like I'm looking for a compliment?" Kelly laughed softly.
"That was better than I even imagined," she traced her fingers over Kelly's lips.
"Yea?"
"Yea," Kate smiled, kissing her quickly.
Kelly grinned.
"I like this," Kate nodded.
"Me too."
"A lot."
"Me too."
Kate's smile grew, "So, was it ok for you too?"
"It was very, very ok," Kelly's eyes sparked as she kissed her lightly before pulling her into a tight hug.
Kate wrapped her arms around her waist, picking her up off the ground for a second before putting her back down and letting her go.
"We should probably go check on Jill," Kelly noted regretfully as Kate's thumbs stroked her cheeks.
Kate nodded, "Can we just try...one more?"
"One more," Kelly smiled as this time Kate drew her in and immediately started to return the kiss. She slowed the kiss down a little before eventually pulling back, slightly breathless.
"Your lips are so soft," Kate observed in amazement.
"I believe I warned you about that already," Kelly laughed lightly.
"It feels good..."
Kelly licked her lips, "I...we really should go check on Jill..."
"Huh?"
Kelly forced herself to take a step back, "Jill...we need to go check on Jill."
"Oh, yea," Kate shook her head, finding her focus. "Yea, duh, come on," she took Kelly's hand, tugging her out of the room and back to the front of the apartment, making the short Texan giggle.

"That was some bathroom break you took earlier," Ashley commented as she busied around Jill and Kate's small kitchen, making dinner.
"When you gotta go, you gotta go," Kelly grinned as she sat on the counter, far away from the stove.
"Mmhmm," Ashley pursed her lips unbelievingly as she stirred the pasta sauce.
"You know...maybe you should hold off on making Jill pay up. I mean, she's going through a lot right now..."
"What?" Ashley spun around quickly, alfredo sauce dripping from the wooden spoon in her hand.
Kelly shrugged, "I just don't think you rubbing it in her face about Kate and I right now would be very nice."
Ashley's jaw dropped, "Oh my God..."
Kelly looked down at her nails, studying them curiously.
"Y'all kissed?" Ashley crossed the small kitchen in one step.
"Shh..." Kelly replied. "Did you not hear what I just said?"
"Y'all kissed?" Ashley whispered, shaking her slightly to get an answer out of her.
"Ok, ok, we kissed," Kelly smiled.
"And?"
"I don't like to kiss and tell," Kelly shrugged.
Ashley glared at her threateningly.
"Alright," Kelly held her hands up in surrender. "It was great."
"Yea?"
Kelly nodded, biting her bottom lip as she thought back to earlier.
"And how was Kate?"
"She was great," Kelly replied blissfully.
"No, not like that," Ashley slapped her arm. "I meant after the kiss. How was she after the kiss? Did she freak out or anything?"
"No," Kelly laughed softly. "She actually wanted to keep kissing."
"And you stopped her?" Ashley's eyes widened in surprise.
"Well...she's a really good kisser..."
"And you stopped her?" Ashley repeated.
Kelly looked at her pointedly.
"Oh..." Ashley chuckled. "Didn't trust yourself to keep kissing her without throwing her on the bed and having your way with her?"
Kelly blushed softly, "Actually...yea."
Ashley laughed, clapping her shoulder, "No worries, it happens to the best of us, kiddo. Throw in the fact that y'all have been building up this ridiculous amount of tension for how long now? I have to say, I wouldn't have been surprised if you'd have thrown her on the bed after the very first kiss."
"Ash..." Kelly fussed.
"I'm just saying," Ashley shrugged. "I wouldn't have held it against you if you had."
Kelly shook her head as she hopped off the counter.
"Where are you going?"
"To the living room to check on Jill."
"Ok, well, Kate's in there too. Try not to jump her in front of Jill. It wouldn't be very polite, all things considered..."
Kelly narrowed her eyes at Ashley's cheeky grin.
"You love me," Ashley responded to the glare.
"Yea, I'm just trying to figure out why, though."
Ashley laughed, waving her out of the kitchen with the wooden spoon in her hand, "Go check on Jill. And bring her some water and some asprin while you're at it. Oh, and dinner's almost ready."
Kelly nodded, following Ashley's instructions before making her way to the living room. "How's it going?" she asked as she sat down on the couch with Jill.
"I think I feel worse than before," she replied. "Remind me, why am I friends with y'all?"
Kelly laughed softly as she handed her the bottles of water and advil she had in her hand. "Here, this should help." Her gaze shifted to Kate, who was sitting on the recliner, as Jill drank the water. She gave a small smile, earning a blush from the tall blonde. "So," Kelly turned her attention back to Jill. "Where's your head at?"
"Trying to figure out how to fix my stupidity."
"You just have to tell Meghan how you feel, and hope that she forgives you."
"And if she doesn't?"
"Then you won't be the only one that's made a huge mistake."
Jill gave a slight smile, "Thanks."
Kelly nodded as she stood, "Come on. Dinner's almost ready, and you'll feel better with some food in you. And maybe after you can even think about maybe giving Meghan a call."
"Yea, maybe so," Jill agreed, leading the way to the kitchen.
"That was really sweet what you said," Kate noted, her hand sliding down Kelly's arm before molding their fingers together.
"It's the truth," Kelly shrugged. "Jill's so great, and she really, truly cares about Meghan, so--"
She was cut off by Kate's lips pressing softly agianst her own.
"What..." Kelly's head spun as Kate pulled back, biting on her bottom lip cutely. "What was that for?"
"For you being sweet," she replied simply.
"So I get a kiss everytime I'm sweet?" Kelly questioned with a grin.
"Well, you can't be sweet just so you'll get a kiss."
"But how will you know the difference?"
"You forget...I can see right through you."
"This sucks," Kelly pouted.
Kate giggled, giving her hand a gentle squeeze as they walked into the kitchen, leaving a soft kiss on her temple.

Kelly drew in a deep breath as she snuggled closer to Kate, burying her face in the crook of her neck as they lay together under a blanket on the sofa. The dvd's menu track played over and over again, and she figured the four of them must've fallen asleep while watching the movie. She could feel Kate's hand rubbing slow circles into her back through her t-shirt. She carefully scooted herself up the sofa just enough to arrange Kate's hand on her lower back.
"Shh..." Kate whispered softly, feeling a soft nose nuzzling the side of her neck.
Kelly bit her bottom lip as a couple of Kate's fingers slid over the inch or two of skin that was exposed of her back due to her shirt riding up. She was trying to think of a way to get Kate's hand to slide all the way under her shirt because she was craving closer contact with the girl. She pressed herself against the blonde and felt her hand pause on her back. She quickly started to back away, thinking she had messed up, but Kate wrapped her arm around her and held her tight against her body.
"Be still," Kate instructed, her lips on Kelly's ear. "Listen..."
Kelly's brow furrowed as she tried to concentrate on something other than the fact that Kate's grip wasn't lessening, so their bodies were still flush against one another. She finally caught sound of a voice--Jill's voice.
"Meg, please...please don't cry, come on, please don't," Jill pleaded into the phone, her own voice thick with sadness.
Kelly finally realized why Kate didn't want her to move: she didn't want Jill knowing that they were awake.
"I-I'm sorry," Jill stuttered. "I don't know what else to say. I don't know how to fix this, you have to help me. Tell me what I need to do to fix this......" She let out a deep sigh, "I already told you, I don't know why I did it. I guess I'm just stupid, ok?......Please, Meg, stop crying. You have no idea how much it hurts me to hear you crying......Ok, I guess I deserved that, but you have to believe me when I say that I never wanted to hurt you. You just mean so much to me, and I..." Jill's voice trailed off as she sniffed.
Kelly wrapped her arm around Kate, holding her just as closely as she was being held. She couldn't imagine how hard it must've been for her to listen to her best friend hurting so badly.
"I was just gonna say that I, um, that I," Jill struggled with her words. "You're my closest friend besides Katie, you know? And you mean so much to me, and I care about you so much, and I guess maybe I was a little scared of that. I was afraid of getting in too deep with you because if I lost you then I wouldn't be just losing a girlfriend, I'd also be losing one of my best friends......I know, baby, I know we talked about that, but I just, I guess I realized that I was already in too deep with you, and it just happened so fast. Or maybe it didn't happen fast, I mean we've been friends forever, but it was just like we went on a couple dates together, and the next thing I know I'm completely lost in you, and I panicked. I just panicked, and in doing that, I did the one thing I never wanted to do which is hurt you. You mean so much to me," Jill's voice softened so that Kelly had to really strain to be able to continue listening to what she was saying. "You mean everything to me......What am I saying? Um, well, I guess what I'm saying is that I, well, I-I love you Meg......Meghan? Please say something......Y-you do?" Jill's voice rose a little in surprise. "You love me too?"
Kate tightened her hold on Kelly even more, and Kelly's lips brushed against her jaw in reply.
"Wow, I just, I never, man, my heart's racing right now," Jill admitted. "Do you think, I mean, is there still a chance for this? Like, for us?......Yea?......Yea, no, that's totally fair. A couple steps back definitely makes sense. I need to earn your trust again, and I totally understand that......I know, and I promise to come to you if ever I have any worries like that again. And I also promise that I will never do anything that would even come close to hurting you ever again......I seriously don't deserve you......" Jill laughed softly, "That's right, you did warn me that you were way out of my league......I will......Ok......Ok, well, I'm gonna let you go because you sound really tired right now......Yea, you too. And Meg?......Thank you for giving me another chance......Yea......Ok, sleep well......Night, baby......" Jill hung up her phone before standing and making her way to her bedroom in the back of the apartment.
Kelly pulled back to find Kate smiling, "Feel better?"
Kate let out the breath she had been holding, "You have no idea."
Kelly leaned forward, kissing her softly.
Kate's smile grew as she tilted her head a little, kissing her back, "This feels good."
"Mmhmm," Kelly nodded, teasing her by keeping her lips just out of reach.
Kate giggled as she pushed forward quickly, capturing the Texan in another kiss.
Kelly melted as Kate left one last soft kiss on the corner of her mouth before pulling back completely with a lopsided grin. "You're so cute."
Kate giggled again, thankful for the darkness to hide her blush.
"I know you're blushing."
"Cheater," she narrowed her eyes playfully before stealing another kiss.
Kelly beamed in satisfaction.
"Promise me something?"
"I would promise you the world if that's what you wanted," Kelly replied.
Kate was struck by the honesty in her voice. She pressed their lips together in a firm kiss, catching Kelly by surprise. "Promise me you won't get scared like Jill did," she requested breathlessly. "I know you've had a string of crazy relationships, but I don't think I could handle it if you..."
"Kate," Kelly locked eyes with her, her voice steady. "I would never, ever cheat on you. I would never cheat on anyone, you know that, but especially not with you."
"I know, I just..."
"I would never do anything to jepordize this, and I can say that with all the certainty in the world, you have to know that."
Kate nodded.
"Good."
"Sorry for doubting you."
"No, no, no, it's ok. I'm glad you voiced it. If ever you have any questions or concerns or doubts, I want you to let me know, ok? We've always been so honest with each other. Now is definitely not the time to stop, ok?"
"Ok."
"Still feeling better?"
"Yea," she smiled. "I'm on like cloud eleven."
"Cloud eleven?"
"Yea, I'm way past cloud nine."
Kelly laughed, shaking her head.
"I know, I know, I'm cute," Kate rolled her eyes.
"Yea, I guess it's good thing I happen to find cute sexy, then."
"O-oh?" Kate raised an eyebrow.
Kelly shrugged before snuggling back into her with a smirk, "Goodnight."
"N-night," Kate took a steadying breath.
