Rebecca smiled as they had finished with the first street set and were now working on the second part of the streets, which they had transformed to look like the front portion of a school from the sixties. The extras had been through costume and makeup again and were now all decked out in their sixties apparel. Rebecca had even grabbed a headband and pair of colored sunglasses from the costumes trailer for laughs. She smiled seeing the others who had cameos for this part in their costumes. She had been rather crunched with ideas and timing, so she had been forced to fall back on mostly typecasting and rather obvious cameo castings. So she giggled at the sight of Bill in his hippie clothing, hair hanging around his face, while Ryland looked like a popular jock type person.
“Right boss, I’m all done in makeup for now. Care if I come watch for a bit?”
“Of course, and Sisky is over by the refreshments table, Amanda.”
Rebecca laughed at her friend’s antics before turning her attention back to the boys in front of her. This shot was with Bill, Ryland, and Travis, who had just shown up a little while ago, not to mention Pete. She giggled seeing Pete with his hair slicked back and in a geeky costume again. She had teased him about the “Dance, Dance” video shoot for months afterwards, and now she was given even more fodder with having him look geeky again.
“Beckanne, enough giggling. Let’s get the shots over so I can get out of this costume that you find so amusing. I know that you probably were the one who suggested this, so let’s get it out of the way.”
“I did no such thing, Petey. Besides, I could always give your lovely little cameo to one of the other boys. And you would just be out of the video.” She smirked seeing him roll his eyes at her. “Okay, so here’s the deal with this part. Ryland, you’re the school jock, typical sixties male who thinks they own the world, you’re the king of the school and you know it. Bill, you get to be our resident hippie, obviously. We’ve got a couple of signs for you to use and some fellow hippie extras. Travis, you’re the typecast in this part, sorry darling. The school is being integrated, and you’re getting jeered at. And Petey is our resident geek who Ryland and some of the others get to beat up on. Got it?”
Rebecca laughed as Ryland quickly threw his arm around Pete’s shoulders, which seemed to look even more odd given the height difference between the two. She gave Travis a quick hug at the mention of typecasting, despite the fact that all the boys seemed to be okay with it, it was still a bit of a stickler for her. She smirked at the groan from her brother at the mention of being the geek getting beat up on. She had plotted the cameo before she had gotten upset with him earlier, but now it made it an even better decision, as she was still a little upset with him for his suspicions.
“Well, I’m back to the command center to fight with the MTV cameras. Don’t wander too far because I’m going to shoot as soon as the vultures will pull off.”
Rebecca laughed and started back over to the command center when she felt a hand on her arm. She turned to see that Pete had grabbed her arm. She raised an eyebrow, wondering what he wanted.
“Yes, Petey?”
“Listen, Beckanne, I’m sorry about earlier. I had no right to do such a thing.”
“You can say that again. Listen, Petey, I’m tired of having to apologize because I fucked up a few years ago. I know that you worry that I’m going to fall back into the trap and such, but you have to trust me. I’m not doing drugs any more. God, I’m barely drinking. And certainly not going to the Cabana again! So you have to trust me and know that if I have problems again, I’ll come to you. Now I have to go answer some questions from the MTV people.”
“Okay, Beckanne.”
Rebecca quickly hugged her brother before walking back over to the command center where the MTV people were questioning April. She put on her best fake smile and sat down, fielding questions for a good fifteen minutes before they finally let her get back to the actual video shoot.
Finally when she was able to turn her attention back to the video, she managed to get a couple of runs before she needed to grab something to eat. So she called a cut and let April take over for a few more runs while walking over to the refreshments table to grab a bagel or such.
“Hey, Reby, are you taking a break?”
“Sadly no, just grabbing a bite of food before rushing back over.”
“You know you don’t have to be running every shot, right?”
“I know, but I suppose I’m just a little paranoid that the shoot is going to fall apart. This is also my final grade, so I’m a little antsy about it.”
“You’re just going to make yourself sick if you keep rushing about like this.”
“I know, Patrick. I’m just trying to get everything smooth.”
“Well, I’m just saying this because I’m trying to watch out for you.”
“And that makes you an even better boyfriend. But I’m used to the rushing around. If I wasn’t right there involved with everything I think I might be even more likely to get sick and upset. At least this way, if something happens, I’ll know I was there to fix it or fuck it up.”
Rebecca smiled and leaned a little closer into Patrick’s hug. She knew that she would have to get back over to the command center soon enough or she would probably start panicking over not being around while the shoot was filming. Also what she didn’t know was that April had planned her own little surprise for Becca.
“Becca, can you come over to costume? We’re having a bit of a mix up with some of the extras costumes.”
“Sure thing, be right there.” She turned to Patrick with a small shrug. It was in the job after all. “Well, gotta run over to costume for something.”
“Of course.”
Rebecca turned and headed over to the costume trailer, narrowly missing the smirk that spread across Patrick’s face at the plot April had told him about earlier.
