Chapter 37
The next morning, Ann woke up in a lot of pain. Only this time, when so moved to get out of bed, she didn’t wince, she smiled. She smiled as she remembered why she had bruises on the inside of her thighs. She smirked when the shampoo ran down her back and burned because of the scratches. Sex had never hurt so much in her life, and she was enjoying every pain ridden movement.
Gerry was another story. He woke up early, in pain too. When he went into the bathroom to shower, he saw his reflection in the mirror. He didn’t remember getting punched the night before, but just under his left eye was a small yet painful bruise. Gerry turned this way and that and remembered why he had scratches all over him. There were even a few on his face and neck.
A grin ran across his face as he walked back into the bedroom to see Ann’s necked body lying curled up on the bed. Her makeup from the day before was smeared all over her face. He kissed her shoulder and left her a note.
When he got to the makeup trailer, Gina, his personal makeup artist, gave him a look as he took his hat and coat off and she got a full look at what Ann had done.
“What happened to you last night?” she asked. “Get in a bar fight?”
“Not exactly,” he replied.
“Care to elaborate?”
“Not really.”
“Wait, didn’t your girlfriend get in from New York yesterday? Is that what hap-”
“So change of subject,” Gerry interjected cutting her off and turning a little red in the process.
The rest of the day went on with out any more mention of Gerry and his injuries, although he did see a few of the other makeup people giggling about it and the director of the movie suppressed a laugh when Gerry out of his trailer with out any makeup on.

Ann didn’t really do much all day. She ordered room service and wore not much more than her robe. She couldn’t help looking at her scratches and getting images of the night before. She couldn’t sit or stand without feeling the bruises on her legs ache.
It was like the scene in the movie “Unfaithful” when Dianne Lane’s character is riding on a train getting flashes of the crazy sex she just had with her new lover. Ann could almost feel Gerry touching her. She hurt all over, but she didn’t care. At least her friend Maria would be proud that she had let her inner sex demon out.

Gerry got home that night just in time for dinner. They both decided that they would stay in and get room service. While eating, Gerry told Ann that he only had two more days of shooting, and then he would have a month or two off.
“Well good cause we need to get your apartment decorated,” Ann said. “We got all those paintings in London and they have just been sitting there.”
“What’s all this ‘we’ stuff,” Gerry said with his mouth full of meatball. “I never remember asking you for your help.”
Realizing that Gerry was just joking, Ann said, “You know, sarcasm isn’t your strong suit. But because I know you are just kidding and that you have no taste when it comes to decorating, I will strike that comment from the record and help you anyway.”
“Well how generous of you,” he retorted with a smirk. “I am so glad that you have decided to bestow your talents on me, a lowly individual with to hope of decorating a paper lunch bag, let alone an apartment.” He pretended to bow to her as though she were a queen.
“Now that was sarcasm,” she said with a smile. I knew you could be taught if only I tried with all my might.”
After dinner, Gerry ran a bath for them both. They were still too tired and sore from the night before to do much. Ann almost fell asleep when Gerry gave her a facial massage. They both could have stayed there all night, but the water was getting cold. When they got into bed, the bath had really tired them out and they fell asleep spooning, Ann using Gerry's arm like a teddy bear.

Gerry didn’t have to be on set until noon, so he stayed in bed and watched as Ann woke up. He loved the way she looked when the light touched her skin and she slowly opened her eyes.
“I missed waking up next to you,” she said with sleep still in her voice. “It just isn’t right to expect a love sick girl like me to wake up to a cold and empty other half of the bed.” Ann snuggled up to his chest and he kissed her on the forehead. “It just inst right.”
“I second that,” he replied with a smile.

After they pealed themselves out of bed, Gerry told Ann that she could come to the set that day if she wanted as he only had one scene to film. She said that she would love to. “It isn’t often that I get to see you working,” she said as they got into the car the movies production company had for Gerry.
“Maybe after I finish, we could go shopping or something,” Gerry said as they walked into his trailer. “There is a nice shopping area downtown. I heard a few people talking about it.”
Ann was a little confused. “Ger, I know you don’t like shopping. We doing have to go if you don’t want to.”
“Well really I said that ‘cause I know you have a vision for what you want our apartment to look like. I am sure that you could find a few things down there for it.”
Ann stopped dead in her tracks. “Did you just say our apartment?”
“Well yes, I did,” he replies a little confused.
“So you're saying that you want me to move in?”
“That would be the obvious course of action.” He looked at her as if to say, “Well, duh.”
“Don’t be a smart ass,” she said smacking him on the arm while moving to sit on the couch. “You really want me to move in?”
“Yes! How many times to I have to say it? Ann I love you and want to live with you. Even if that means that I will have to pull glob of your wet hair out of the drain. The apartment you share with Lynn is nice, but it is too small for the four of us. Also they are way too loud and the walls are much, much, much too thin for that.”
Ann had the biggest smile on her face. She leapt off the couch and kissed him long and hard.
Before they broke their lip lock, Lisa, Gerry's assistant walked in. “Whoa,” she said covering her eyes and turning around. “Didn’t mean to interrupt anything.”
“Can't you knock,” Gerry laughed at the look of complete embarrassment on her face.
“He just asked me to move in with him,” Ann said, still smiling like an idiot.
“Finally,” Lisa replied with a smile. “I thought he would never ask you. I mean you two practically live together already, it was only a matter of time before he learned to use his brain.”
“Keep talking like that,” Gerry said with a smile, “and there will be no Jelly of the Month Club gift for you this Christmas.”
Lisa walked out a few minuets later, fighting back tears. She laughed so hard she almost peed herself when she saw Ann's face after she let it slip that Gerry really did get her a Jelly of the Month Club gift one year for Christmas.
“Why would you do that?” Ann asked after she had hit Gerry up side the head.
“I am a guy, I didn’t know any better.”
“Well then you should have asked you mother.”
It only took Gerry two hours to film the scene that he was scheduled for, which made Ann happy. “This means we have more time to shop,” she said taking his arm as they set off down a street lined with artisan shops for several blocks.
Ann decided, and Gerry agreed, to keep the apartment in muted earth and sky tones; rich dark browns with hints of camel, soft greens, and ocean blues. “That way we don’t have to redo the floors,” Ann said, “because they are already a deep brown.”
“Well that certainly puts some of my fears to rest,” Gerry replied as they walked. “So all that really leaves is…”
“…Living room, dinning room, bedroom, and study furniture; paint in all the rooms; and the master bathroom,” Ann finished for him. “That needs a complete overhaul.”
“Wait,” he exclaimed, “the bathroom needs an overhaul? Why?”
“Well first, it is far too bland. Second, that is my favorite room to decorate. And third, the tub is much too small. The two of us can't fit in there.”
“Good point.”
As the day went on, they didn’t really get all that much; a few vases, a hand sculpted fireplace screen, and a set of hand blown glasses. The last shop they stopped in was an antique store. Ann practically ran in after they passed the window and she saw a hand carved Teak canopy bed. It was what she had always wanted. Ann was so excited that Gerry couldn’t resist buying it for her. He looked at the bill as they walked out and gave a little shudder.
“It wasn’t too expensive, was it?” Ann asked still grinning over her new treasure.
“It was to be honest,” Gerry replied, “but seeing you that happy is worth more.”
They had dinner in a small Italian restaurant that Gerry had been to a few times before. As they were walking around a bit before going back to the hotel, they saw that and old movie house was showing “Funny Girl.”
“Come on Ger,” Ann whined. “I promise it is better than you think. I don’t really like Barbara Streisand movies, but this one is really good.”
“Fine, fine, I will see it. But I promise that I will not like it.”
Well that was a complete lie. Gerry didn’t want to admit it, but he did like the movie. He had heard a lot of the songs before; he just didn’t know that they came from this movie. Then there was the look on Ann’s face every time Omar Sharif came on screen. He leaned over to her at one point and said, “I see you have a thing for him.”
“Shhhhhh,” she whispered. “He was sexy then and he is sexy now. He might be a wee bit crazy now, but still a looker.”
When they left the movie, they saw an old couple walking along the sidewalk, hand in hand. As the couple approached, Ann noticed that the woman was smiling at her. “I don’t mean to bother you two, I just noticed the look on your face young lady that reminded me of one I made long ago. You must be in love.”
“Yes mam, I am,” Ann replied with a smile.
The old woman turned to Gerry and said, “You keep a tight hold on her and with any luck, you will make her smile like that for the rest of your lives, just as my husband has done for me.” She leaned over to her husband and kissed him on the cheek.
“I will do my best,” Gerry said with a grin as the old couple walked off.
“I hope we end up like them,” Ann said as she brushed her hair later that night.
“Ditto.”
“Again with the movie quoting.”
“Well it’s true.”
“Alright I will allow it.”

The next day was the last day of shooting. Ann went to the set and stayed for the wrap party. It was obvious to her that when people were with each other everyday on a movie set that they really formed a family. Ann laughed a bit when the little girl playing the politician’s daughter gave Gerry a big hug and he got all misty eyed.
“You really are great with kids,” Ann said as they got ready for bed that night.
“I hope you aren’t getting any ideas,” Gerry said, pulling on his pajama bottoms.
“No ideas here. I want a ring on my finger before that.” When Gerry didn’t respond, Ann continued. “Yep a big one. With a Garnet cushion center stone, no smaller than 3 karats, and diamonds all around.”
“You’ve thought that one out, haven’t you?”
“Absolutely. I’m a girl. I have had my wedding planned since I was about 7.”
“Now that is just strange.”
“But true.”
