"Are you just going to stare at it all day?" Kate teased, walking into the Texan's dressing room.
"Probably," Kelly nodded, looking down at the copy of her newly released album she was holding in her hands.
"Finding it hard to believe it's actually out there?" Kate asked as she sat down beside her.
"It's just been a long time coming."
"But all your albums are like that, aren't they?"
"They're kind of the opposite," Kelly admitted as she turned, stretching out on the small couch so that her legs were resting across the blonde's lap.
"They come out too soon?" Kate's forehead scrunched in confusion.
Kelly nodded, "Yea, and that's something you have to watch out for when you and Jill hit it big, don't you roll your eyes at me."
Kate giggled, squeezing her leg gently.
"Y'all are gonna make it. You just need patience. And once you do make it, you have to remember to keep that patience. They are going to try to capitalize on your eagerness, and they are going to try to push you into the studio to hurry up and make an album because the sooner you release an album, the sooner they can make money off of you."
"That's how your first two albums were?"
"Yea, especially Thankful. I mean, I won in like September, I think, and they wanted an album out in November. There was just no way I could put an album out that I would be proud of that quickly, especially with all of the promo and stuff we were doing. It was impossible."
"So, then, how did you get them to push the album back?" Kate asked curiously.
"I just didn't go into the studio until I found a song I wanted to record. They can't force you to sing. Remember that. I mean, compromise is, unfortunately necessary, especially when you're just starting out, but they can never force you to sing."
Kate nodded.
Kelly smiled, reaching out for her, "Come here."
Kate took her hand, allowing her to pull her so that she was laying down beside her.
"I am so happy right now," Kelly admitted, drawing Kate's arm over her stomach as she looked back at her album.
"Yea?"
"Yea," she nodded, kissing her softly.
"Good," Kate wrapped her arm tighter around her, pulling her close. "You're welcome."
Kelly laughed, shaking her head as she kissed her again, "You're crazy."

"It's a party," Kelly smiled, reaching out and placing a hand on Kate's hip as the taller girl approached her.
"It is," Kate laughed, looking around the bar that was filled with its usual patrons as well as Kelly's band and crew that traveled with her for promo tours. "How does it feel?"
"I think it's finally sunk in," Kelly nodded. "My December has actually been released. I don't think I've ever been this excited for the fans to be able to hear an album."
"For them to be able to listen and decide for themselves about whether or not it's crap?" Kate smiled playfully.
"Yea," Kelly laughed, tugging her closer.
"You look exhausted," Kate noted, rubbing her arm softly.
"It's just been a long time coming," Kelly shrugged. "With everything with the label and my management...but hey, a couple more days of promo, and then we have a break...a very much needed break where I don't have to worry about the album anymore and will it be released or won't it cause it finally was, so..."
"I'm so excited for you," Kate let her nails trail down her arm.
Kelly bit her lip, "What I wouldn't give for this bar to have a vip room right about now."
Kate giggled, "Come on. Come do a shot with me."
"A woman after my own heart," Kelly grinned, following her to the bar.
"So would it totally kill your buzz if I asked whether or not you talked to your mom?" Kate asked after ordering them each a shot.
The bartender placed the two full shot glasses on the bar before them, and both singers downed them quickly.
Kelly's nose scrunched as she fought down a cough, "No, no it's ok. She said of course she wants a chance to really meet you and get to know you, so we fly out Friday. How's that sound?"
Kate nodded, "Thanks for doing this."
"You do realize that I'd do anything you asked, right? I believe the term most people would use is 'whipped'."
"You know, most people would never admit to that."
"I trust you enough not to take advantage. I mean...unless it's a good taking advantage," Kelly smirked.
Kate blushed.
Kelly beamed, ordering them each another shot, "Yep...I still got it."

"Are you sure this is a good idea?" Ashley asked as she helped Kelly pack. "I mean, you've never brought a girl home to meet your mother before."
"Michelle met my mom," Kelly reminded.
"Yea, but you never actually brought her home. They met at one of your concerts."
"I've already brought Kate home. I live in Texas, remember?"
"You know what I mean."
"Well, I've already brought Kate to that home too. For the Daytona thing, remember?"
"That's not the same thing and you know it," Ashley sighed.
"Why are you against me bringing her to my mom's?" Kelly asked as she zipped up the suitcase.
"Why are you bringing her?"
"I'm not entirely sure. I think she just wants to see that it can be ok, like you know, family wise, to be with a girl. My mom's always been very supportive, so I think that will be good for her to see."
Ashley frowned.
"What?"
"I think you're forgetting about something."
"A-about what?" Kelly feigned innocence.
"You haven't told her yet, have you?"
Kelly's eyes fell under her best friend's stare.
"Kelly, you have to tell her. If you don't, then the whole visit is going to be a lie. You want to show her that things can turn out good? Then that's fine because things with your mother are great, but you have to be completely honest with her. You have to tell her the whole truth."
"I don't see how that will help anything."
"She deserves to know what can happen."
Kelly shook her head.
"What? Are you scared she's going to change her mind because of it?"
"Yea," she replied softly.
"She still deserves to know. And it's wrong of you to keep that from her. And maybe...maybe it will help."
"How?"
"Well, she can see that even though not everything turned out how you wanted, you're still happy, and you still have this incredible relationship with your family."
"With some of my family," Kelly corrected.
"With some of your family," Ashley nodded, squeezing her shoulder gently. "Come on, let's go find y'all some lunch before you leave for your flight."

"Bam!" Kate smiled triumphantly as she marked a capital letter 'K' over the tic-tac-toe game she had just won. "I believe that is three in a row."
"I don't know what you're talking about," Kelly shook her head. "All I see are three tic-tac-toe games, each with the letter 'K' over them, and since my name starts with that letter..."
"Oh shut up," Kate laughed, adding her last intitial to each of the three games that were scribbled on a piece of notebook paper as they sat on an airplane on their way to North Carolina. "There. Now, I am the official tic-tac-toe champion."
"You sure about that?" Kelly asked, using her eraser to change each of the R's into C's.
"You are such a cheater," Kate replied, taking her pencil from her.
"Don't be a poor sport just because you lost."
"I did not lose."
"That's not what the paper says."
Kate narrowed her eyes at her, "You're lucky we're in public right now."
"Why? Cause there are witnesses so you can't kick my ass?"
"No, because there are witnesses so I can't kiss you," she lowered her voice.
"And that makes me lucky how?"
Kate smiled as Kelly gave her knee a gentle squeeze. She turned over to a blank sheet of paper in her notebook. "Ok, new game."
"Why because you were tired of losing?"
"Shut it," Kate replied, laughing softly.
"So what are we playing this time?"
"How about--"
"Excuse me," a confident voice interrupted them.
Kelly turned to find a tall brunette standing next to Kate's aisle seat with a smile, "Hi."
"So it is you," the girl smiled broadly. "I thought it was you when you walked on the plane, but I wasn't sure because you had those sunglasses on, but now you don't, and yea, those eyes...they're definitely one of a kind."
Kate frowned as her eye's passed over the girl's outfit that consisted of a tight tanktop and hip-hugging jeans.
"But, I mean, I guess you didn't write a hit song about them for nothing," the girl giggled loudly.
"I guess not," Kelly smiled politely after noticing Kate roll her eyes. "Is there anything I can do for you?"
"Can I have your autograph?"
"Yea, sure, do you have a piece of paper?"
"Um, no..." she looked down at Kate's notebook, hopefully. "Do you mind?"
Kate handed the notebook over to Kelly wordlessly, smiling as Kelly grazed their hands together and caught her eye.
"So what's your name?" Kelly asked, turning back to the fan.
"Jessica," the girl replied as Kelly started to sign the paper for her. She leaned over Kate's chair, "With a double 's'."
"Um, yea," Kelly's eyes turned to look at her before quickly diverting back to the notebook after catching an eyeful of cleavage. "I have a friend named Jessica. Plus, there's really no other way to spell it, is there?"
"Yea, you're right," the girl giggled again. "I guess I'm just nervous. I'm a big fan."
"Well, it was very nice meeting you, Jessica," Kelly nodded, as she tore out the sheet of notebook paper and handed it to her. "Have a fun flight.
"I'm sure I will," the girl smiled. "I'm seated just a few rows up, by the way...bye now," she wiggled her fingers in a wave before returning to her seat.
"Whore," Kate mumbled, her eyes glued to the girl's retreating form.
"Kate..." Kelly laughed softly.
"Could she have been any more obvious? I mean, she was totally shoving her boobs in your face. Talk about trash."
"Kate, hey..."
"What a slut."
"Baby," Kelly smiled, finally getting her attention. "You can't let that bother you. Stuff like that happens all the time, but it doesn't mean anything, ok? First off, I would never go for someone like that. Second, I'm with you, right? I wouldn't even dream of wanting to be with someone else."
Kate could feel herself relaxing at Kelly's assurances, "I know. It's not you I'm upset with. I just can't stand girls like that."
"Well, that's just one more thing we can agree on."
Kate smiled, resting her head on Kelly's shoulder, "I'm sorry."
"It's ok. You haven't really had a chance to see--in your words--the sluttier side of things yet."
Kate giggled.
"Those types usually only come up to me if I'm by myself, or with at the most one or two other people, and lately, I've just been really surrounded with people because of work and stuff, and even when we went to Texas there were like four of us."
"So they come up to you like that a lot?"
"I get my fair share, yea. It's really funny when it's a guy that's doing it because poor things have no clue they have even less of a chance than the girls."
Kate forced a soft laugh.
"Kate, seriously, even if I were single and had been for years and years, and I was completely desperate, I still wouldn't go for that."
"I know," Kate relaxed again, nuzzling her neck lightly. "I guess I just wasn't expecting it."
"It's ok," Kelly rubbed her arm soothingly. "But like I said, stuff like that happens. You've got to just blow it off, ok? You can't let it bother you or else this will never work."
Kate nodded, "Yea, I know. I'm sorry."
"No worries," Kelly reassured. "I know this can be a lot to deal with at times."
"I'm willing to," Kate replied, sitting up straighter to look her in the eyes. "I really am."
Kelly smiled, tugging her back down so her head was resting on her shoulder again. She rested her cheek against her hair, "I have to admit though...it was pretty hot to see you getting all jealous and protective like that."
Kate felt her cheeks blushing, and she wrapped her arm tightly around the Texan's.
Kelly laughed, looking around quickly before tilting her head just enough to let her lips pass across the blonde's hair in a soft kiss.

"Here we are," Kelly smiled as she parked the rental car in her mother's driveway.
"This is a really nice house," Kate commented as they got out of the car.
"You've been here before."
"Yea, but I didn't really get a chance to take everything in that time."
"Well, feel free to take it all in now. My mom is very proud of this house, and she more than welcomes compliments," Kelly laughed as she pulled their bags out of the trunk of the car.
"I think her pride has more to do with the daughter that bought it for her than it does with the house itself," Kate replied as she took her suitcase from her.
"No, I'm pretty sure it's the house," Kelly joked, bumping her with her hip.
Kate giggled.
"So...nervous about meeting the parental?" Kelly asked as she closed the trunk and started to make her way up the driveway with Kate by her side.
"Should I be?"
"Nah...I mean my mom has run off several people my siblings and I have dated...but I'm sure she'll like you."
"Funny."
Kelly shrugged. "Fine, don't believe me..."
Kate stopped, "Seriously?"
Kelly started to hum softly as she continued walking.
"Wait, Kelly, you're joking, right?" Kate jogged to catch up with her.
"Mom," Kelly smiled, and Kate quickly looked up to find Kelly's mother coming out of the house.
"Wait, Kelly, what do I call her? What's your mom's last name? You never said," Kate whispered hurriedly.
"It's so good to have you home," Jeanne greeted as she pulled her daughter into a tight hug. "How was the flight? Did everything go ok?"
"Everything went fine," Kelly assured, pulling back from the hug. "Mom, you remember Kate, right?"
"Of course I do."
"It's nice to see you again Mrs...Mrs...um..." Kate shoved her hand out, "Hi."
Jeanne looked back at Kelly knowingly, "What did you tell the poor girl?"
Kelly scoffed, "Why, only that you're the most amazing mom ever, duh."
Jeanne swatted her arm before turning to Kate, "Don't worry about her. She knows better than to misbehave when she's in my house. And just call me Jeanne, sweetie."
Kate felt herself relaxing as Jeanne pulled her into a warm hug.
"Now y'all come on in," Jeanne instructed as she gave Kate's arm a reassuring squeeze. "Dinner's just about ready."
Kate narrowed her eyes at Kelly as Jeanne led the way to the front door.
"What?" Kelly asked innocently.
"I hate you."
"Yea, well, you're gonna have to take a number like everybody else," Kelly grinned as she held the door open for her.
