The next night, after filming was done, Lex sat alone in her trailer, contemplating and dreading how she would tell Orlando how she felt. She had no idea how he would react. She di kno know if he would still return her feelings, or tell her he hates her and to go to hell for using him. She couldn’t blame him if he did. She’d probably do the same thing if she was him. But how would she have known? He never told her how he felt. And it was only after she hurt him that she realized she felt the same way.
A flash of lightning lit up the sky and rain pounded down on the roof of her trailer. She turned on the radio to drown out the noise. Looking at the clock, she realized it was 10 o’clock. “I can’t go now,” she said aloud, laying down on the floor.
She listened as the song ‘Don’t Want You Back,’ ended and the announcer’s voice took over the radio, “And that was the latest from Eamon, Don’t Want You Back,”
Lex snorted, “That’s probabhat hat Orli would say if I told him.”
She closed her eyes as another song began, the familiar tune echoing in her ears;
I’m so tired of being here.
Suppressed by all my childish fears.
And if you have to leave, I wish that you would just leave,
Cuz you’re presence still lingers here,
And it won’t leave me alone.
These wounds won’t seem to heal,
This pain is just too real,
There’s just too much that time cannot erase.
Lexy’s eyes flew open, “Oh my God.” She turned up the radio full blast.
When you cried I’d wipe away all of your tears,
When you screamed I’d fight away all of your fears,
I held your hand through all of these years, and you still have all of me.
“Orlando!” Without thinking, she ran out into the rain towards Orlando’s trailer. She stopped when she realized he was walking towards her. He stopped too and turned around and started to walk away.
“Orlando wait!” she called, running after him.
He stopped, but didn’t turn around. “Orlando I’m sorry I hurt you. I promise to God I would never use you.”
He snorted and started to walk away.
“Wait!”
“No! don’t try to tell me that. I know you only used me to keep your secret from Johnny. I know you love him.”
He started to walk away again but Lex started to run after him, “No Orlando! Please wait! There’s something you have to know…I don’t love Johnny.” The rain was pounding down on them, soaking them to the bone. Thunder cracked against the faint sound of Evanescence in the background. “…I love you.”
When he still didn’t turn around, Lex thought all hope was lost. Then, a familiar beat reached her ears.
She took a deep breath and started singing, “You used to captivate me, by your resonating light, but now I’m bound by the life you left behind.”
Orlando slowly turned around and walked towards her, as she continued singing, “Your face it haunts my once pleasant dreams. Your voice it chased away all the sanity in me.”
He brought his hand to her face and brushed his thumb across her face.
“These wounds won’t seem to heal. This pain is just too real. There’s just too much that time cannot erase.”
The rain mixed with tears that streamed down her face as she sang to him. When he noticed her crying, Orlando smiled, and picked up where she left off, “When you cried I’d wipe away all of your tears. When you’d scream I’d fight away all of your fears. I held your hand through all of these years,” He leaned into hear until their lips were nearly touching “An “And you still have…all of me,” Lex finished the verse as the space between their lips closed, locking them in a passionate kiss.
The rain was drenching them, but they didn’t care. The kiss was unforgettable, like the ones you read about in fairy tales, or see in the movies, but never expect to feel. A low rumble of thunder echoed throughout the valley as the song came to an end.
