Chapter 4
The next morning Justin woke up alone to the alarm clock blaring. He rolled over and turned off the alarm and got out of bed. After brushing his teeth he dressed and headed to the kitchen for something to eat. He opened the pantry and nearly fainted at all the cereal he found there. He settled on Cap-N-Crunch. After breakfast he took out his cell phone and called the compound.
“Hello” Johnny said
“Hey Johnny, it’s Justin. I was just checking in.” Justin said
“How did things go last night?” Johnny asked
“Fine.”
“Good. Look, since you’re going to be there for three days how bout you just check in on Sunday.” Johnny said
“Ok. I’ll talk to you again Sunday.” Justin said
“Alright kid. Call if you need anything.” Johnny said
“I will. Bye.” Justin said
The day at school went by in a blur for Justin. When he was done with his last class he made his way back to Josh’s house. He noticed that the older mans car was in the driveway and so was another car he didn’t know. He found Josh in the living room talking to a familiar looking woman.
“Hey Justin, come here. I want you to meet someone.” Josh said when he saw Justin.
Justin walked slowly into the room. He wasn’t sure how he was supposed to act. He didn’t know if he was supposed to pretend to be a friend or what. He figured he’d just follow Josh’s lead.
“Justin, this is Bobbie.” Josh said
Justin was temporarily unable to speak. He never expected to meet the fiancé. He came to his senses when she put her hand out for him to shake.
“Hi. It’s nice to meet you.” she said
“You too.” Justin said
“I should have warned you Bobbie would be here. We have to go to a small dinner party tonight.” Josh said
“No problem. I understand. I have a little homework so I’ll be in the library” Justin said.
“He’s cute.” Justin heard Bobbie say as he left the room.
Justin didn’t realize how late it was until Josh came into the library. He’d changed into a dark suit and was looking rather nice.
“I just wanted to let you know that we’re leaving.” Josh said
“Oh...ok.” Justin said
“I’m sorry about just springing Bobbie on you like this.” Josh said
“You don’t have to apologize to me. I work for you remember.” Justin said with a smile.
“Yeah, whatever.” Josh said looking a little sad.
“You ok?” Justin asked
“I’m fine. I have to go. I should be back by ten, no later than eleven. You’re free to do what you want until then.” Josh said leaving the room.
When Josh and Bobbie got into the car she was silent for a while. Then she realized Josh wasn’t going to talk.
“What’s wrong?” Bobbie asked
“Noth” Jo” Josh said
“Don’t lie to me Joshua. I know something’s wrong.”
“I just...I don’t understand him.” He said
“Who? Justin?”
“Yes.”
“What did he do?” Bobbie asked
“It’s what he said. I apologized for not letting him know you were going to be there and do you know what he said?” he asked
“What?”
“He said it was ok because he worked for me. Can you bee the that?”
“It’s true. He does work for you.” she said
“I know that, but that’s not supposed to be his attitude. When he’s with me for the three days we’re supposed to be a couple. He’s not supposed to treat me like a trick.” Josh said
“Josh, I know that you want to have this fantasy that Justin is your boyfriend and he’s madly in love with you, but it’s not going to happen. You are his trick Josh. No matter how you want it to be, that’s the way it is. You can’t expect him to change the way he views you because you’re nice to him.” she said
“Why can’t I? He knows that I don’t think of him that way.”
“It doesn’t matter what you think. It matters what he thinks. I can’t imagine that this is good for him.”
“Of course it’s good for him. It keeps him from having to sleep with all of those different men. At least for a few days. I can’t let him be used so often. It’ll just make him bitter in the end.” Josh said sadly.
“What’s this really about? Why are you so determined to save him?”
“I don’t know...It was supposed to be one night. I was going to fuck him and send him home.” Josh said
“But.” Bobbie prompted.
“But we talked over dinner. He told me why he was doing this and in the same conversation told me how much he missed his younger brothers. He told me about his dream to one day be back with them. Maybe even to have made something of himself so that his parents would respect him, even if they didn’t love him. I don’t know...I just knew he was better than this. Thats all.” He said as they pulled up to the house for dinner.
Bobbie turned to look at Josh. She could see that he was sincere and that his reasons were pure. She also knew that Josh was going to be hurt really bad if he didn’t step away from the situation.
“I think you should stop seeing him.” she said
“What?”
“I think you should stop seeing him. Josh, you want to save him from the choices he’s made and you can’t. You’re going to end up getting hurt in this. You need to accept that this is just a job for him and nothing else.”
“I know that Bobbie. I do. I just can’t do it. My heart is already involved and nothing I do now is going to stop that. As long as he continues to come, I’ll be there waiting and when he stops, I’ll just have to deal with it.”
Josh didn’t say anything else. He just got out of the car and went to dinner.
The dinner party ran long and Josh didn’t arrive home until after one. Justin was in bed asleep with the bedside lamp on. Josh looked as his innocent face and knew he was doing the right thing. He carefully sat beside Justin on the bed. He ran his fingers through the curls and whispered to Justin.
“I know you’re asleep and you can’t hear me. It’s probably just as well. I don’t know what it’s going to take for you to trust me, but I’ll keep trying until you do. I just wish you could understand that I’m really just trying to help. I don’t want to own you Justin, hell if you said you wanted to quit what you’re doing I’d give you all the money you needed. We wouldn’t even need to share a bed. I never meant for this to happen. It was just supposed to be a simple fuck. But from the moment you told me about your brothers and dreams, I...I...I couldn’t stand the idea of you sleeping with all those men. I knew I had to try and give you other options.”
Josh stood from the bed and went to take a shower. As soon as the door closed Justin opened his eyes.
