Madison could feel her blood beginning to boil as she felt anger surge through her body.
“I told Mark about us. I just couldn’t keep hiding it from everyone any longer.”, Justin cunningly explained.
Maddie was speechless even when Mark said, “Okay...I think this is a little too much excitement for you, kiddo. Why don’t you and Justin get some rest and something to eat and we’ll meet up later..?”.
However, before she could protest, Justin spoke up and said, “Great idea! Come on honey!”, and before she knew it, she was being swept away into Justin’s room. After locking the door to her new room, Justin smugly stared at Maddie.
Unclenching her fists, Maddie took slow strides to reach Justin before extending her hand and slapping the cocky smile off of his face.
“You jerk! What, in God’s name, do you think you’re doing?”, she demanded loudly but not loud enough for others to hear in the neighboring bedrooms.
“You like playing games with people’s emotions don’t you? Well guess what...two can play and the rules have just changed.”, Justin hissed as he stepped closer towards Maddie.
He was towering over her and she could feel his heat radiating from his body. This man in front of her wasn’t the same Justin that had once begged her to love him. He now appeared demanding. Something in his sapphire blue eyes told her that he was in this to win and her heart was the unfortunate prize.
Tears formed behind her eyes as she slowly backed away. She weakly fell onto a nearby couch and held her head in the palms of her hands.
Suddenly, she felt a hand lifting her chin up and she saw Justin, “You need some sleep...let’s go to bed. We can fight later.”. He then guided her to her room. Carefully, he tucked her into the bed. Madison began to drift away and into a sleep that she desperately needed. Then her body tensed up as she felt Justin ease under the covers beside her.
Maddie then felt him whisper, “Relax, we’re just gonna sleep. I promise.”. Too exhausted to protest, Maddie sealed her eyes and allowed herself to unwind. When Justin felt her relax, he slid his arm around her waist and pulled her against his chest.
Silently he smiled and thought to himself, This is how it’s supposed to be.
A few hours passed. Justin lay silently, studying Maddie’s face. He loved the way she would sigh ever-so-often with an almost smile creeping to the corners of her mouth.
Realizing, he wished to stay in the position for as long as he could.
Suddenly, Madison’s eye lids began to flutter open. Quickly, Justin shut his own. Now fully awake, Maddie gazed up to see the man lying next to her. She studied him carefully and came to a conclusion. He was like water and oil within himself. Currently, he looked like a sleeping angel but inside he was something different. Madison couldn’t avoid the warmth of his body. He was so warm and inviting. She soon realized that his arm was around her and their legs were entangled together.
Gently, Maddie brushed her fingers along his jaw line. How could someone so beautiful, be so angelic and loving one moment and be so cruel and demanding the next? Madison furrowed her brow and decided she would rather not know the answer to that question.
Quietly, she began to get up from the bed when Justin grabbed her wrist and asked gently, “Where are you going?”.
Maddie couldn’t look at his eyes, “To the bathroom. I need to freshen up.”, she felt guilty for her thoughts of him.
Releasing her, Maddie found her luggage and got all the things she needed for a shower. Entering the bathroom, she closed the door and locked it. She still couldn’t trust Justin.
Putting down her things, Madison glanced into the mirror and looked at herself. She was so confused. She knew she hated Justin...she had to. He ruined her friendship with Michelle, a girl who was like a sister. He almost raped her...that was something that Maddie couldn’t easily forget...it was the reason why she was so afraid of him. He’d lost control with her and she never wanted to see that side of him again. Justin made her lie to her new friends and she had to continue to lie to them as long as they thought she and Justin were together. Madison wondered how her life had gotten so complicated. Stepping into the shower, she decided to concentrate on staying away from Justin as much as possible. That was the only way that she could get through the next couple of months.
After finishing with her shower and dressed in fresh clothes, Maddie made her way to the kitchenette in the suite only to find Justin standing in front of the stove cooking something, minus his shirt.
“Hungry?” he asked without turning to look in her direction.
Eyeing him suspiciously, Maddie replied, “I was just going to get a snack.” and quickly reached for the handle of the fridge.
Only, she was deterred by Justin grabbing her wrist. “Uh Uh, I’m making you something. So you can wait five minutes until I’m done and then we’ll eat together.”.
Wrenching her hand back towards her, “No thanks. I don’t think I’d be able to keep any food down…not with you sitting across from me.”. She was being bratty. She knew it but he didn’t get to dictate anything to her. He had no right.
Just as she was about to turn away, she felt Justin grab her around the waist and haul her up until she was no longer touching the ground. Maddie began kicking and shouting at him, calling him everything from ‘disgusting’ to a ‘caveman with no scruples’.
The feel of his naked chest covering her body was a little too disturbing for Maddie to even acknowledge. His arms, unyielding, wrapped around her waist made her want to scream. She didn’t want him touching her but that wasn’t the way things were going.
Justin dumped her onto a dining room seat and leaned in close so that she was clear that he meant business, “Sit down, shut up and let me get you something to eat.”.
Sitting in a huff, Maddie fiddled with the fork that was laying on place setting at the table. How dare he tell her what to do? Why did he presume that he could just touch her without her giving him permission? One night, that’s all they shared. One night that left her feeling dirty and used. He wasn’t entitled to anything where she was concerned. Not after the way he had treated her.
“What are you thinking about?” she heard Justin murmur from behind her.
“Contemplating the many ways that I could impale you with this fork.” she stated pleasantly while motioning the object towards the table in a stabbing action.
“I see…well how about you eat first and then let me know which option sounds best. I always find thinking on a full stomach much more productive.” he replied.
Maddie scowled up at him. If he thought this was flirtatious banter then he had another thing coming.
Realizing that he was sitting down beside her, Madison looked towards her plate.
Pancakes. That bastard.
“You can’t expect me to eat pancakes at two o’clock in the afternoon.” she scolded.
“It never stopped us before.” he smiled in a way that was so irritating that she was actually contemplating forking him in the arm.
Suddenly her stomach wrenched and an embarrassingly loud growl was let loose. Maddie turned bright red as she saw Justin quirk an eyebrow upwards and attempt to smother his laughter.
“So I’m hungry! Big deal…I’ll eat your disgusting pancakes and then I’m out of here. Mark probably needs me to take care of some things for him.” she huffed. How dare he laugh at her!
Justin just smiled and silently passed her the maple syrup.
Savouring the sugary taste of warm, fluffy pancakes dripped in syrup, Madison eyed Justin. Shirtless Justin. He looked different than before. Back then, he had always been lean but there was always something tender about him. Now, all of that was gone. His arms were rigid and muscular and there was nothing tender about him at all. He was all male.
Glancing up at his face, she realized that he had been watching her while she analyzed him.
“Are you done? Or do you want me turn to the other side?” he asked cockily. So he was good looking, who cares?
“Of course not. And by the way, all those times we got pancakes together…I was just humouring you. It was never fun for me.” Maddie scoffed.
Justin let out a snort, “Oh sure and all those times that you practically drooled over your Pancake World pancakes were just because you’ve got a glandular problem.”
“Ugh, I didn’t and don’t drool!” she was shocked.
“Fine, I was imagining all of that. But you have to admit that those pancakes at that diner were pretty damned good…” Justin admitted.
Maddie acquiesced, “Yeah…they were. They actually shut that place down about six months ago. Something about not having enough money to keep the place going. It was a sad day…I don’t think I’ve eaten pancakes since then.”.
Maddie noticed that Justin was wearing a dopey smile, “See, that’s how you have a normal conversation! Congratulations!” he praised.
Rolling her eyes, Maddie replied, “And that’s how you RUIN a normal conversation! I’ve lost my appetite again.”. She then dropped her fork on her half eaten pancake, shoved her chair backwards and marched to the foyer closet to retrieve her sweater.
Suddenly she heard Justin call out tauntingly, “You’re acting childish, you know…”.
That was it.
Maddie took a deep breath and whipped her sweater to the floor. The anger surged through her body and she swiftly turned around and stomped back into the dining area.
“Don’t you dare call ME childish! You’re the one acting like a spoiled little brat who hasn’t gotten his way. Get it through your head: I HATE YOU! And just because we seem to not be talking about what happened the first night I met the group does NOT mean I’ve forgotten! Everything is NOT okay with us, Justin! There is NOTHING okay with what happened!” Maddie spewed out and was left standing breathlessly, chest heaving and red faced.
All the while Justin just simply looked at her in a calm, detached way that made her want to slap him. “Alright, you want to talk about that night? Let’s talk.”, he stated in a way irked her. He wasn’t taunting her but there was something in the way that he spoke that made her thing he was somewhat amused by her outburst.
Maddie could feel her blood pumping through her body as she took her time to reply calmly, “You violated me. You hurt me in a way that I didn’t think was possible. I felt dirty, humiliated and used, Justin. How’s that for some truth?”. Tears did not well up in her eyes, her chin did not tremble. She was not sad about what happened. She was angry as hell.
“That wasn’t honesty Madison. That was denial. You can’t admit that you wanted me then and that you still want me right now. Do YOU know how frustrating that is? To watch you be cool and distant with me when I KNOW that you’re feeling anything but? Why don’t you be real for once in your life?” Justin snapped back.
“Be real? You RAPED me! I don’t think there’s anything realer than that!” Madison shouted, her fists clenched and tears crawling down her cheeks.
Justin narrowed his eyes before grabbing her upper arms and in roughened voice said, ‘I didn’t rape you and you know it! I remember everything about that night. Every. Last. Detail. You were telling me not stop! You were moaning! That was ALL you, Maddie! So don’t tell me that I raped you.”
Madison struggled to get free from his grip, “You coerced me into sleeping with you!”.
“I, what?! Maddie, in all your years, has anybody been able to convince you of something you didn’t already believe? You’re the most stubborn, hard headed woman I have ever met!” Justin shouted.
“Wow, Justin, you really know how make a girl feel special! Mix that with sexual coercion and you’re quite a catch!” Maddie bitterly laughed.
“Why are you so hell-bent on thinking the worst of me? For once, could give me some credit for being an actual human being with feelings?” Justin growled.
“Credit? HA! For wha…humph!” Madison scoffed before Justin angrily pressed his lips to hers and slammed both of their bodies into the wall.
