Part Four – Masks and Shadows
Kyo blinks up at the man, feeling cool fingers brush over the two wounds. His breath catches, and he tries to pull away once more. His cheeks are on fire, his eyes are cast down, the thick lashes lowered over pale amber oculars.
“And if no is the answer you get?” He asks, struggling in the other’s arms. Kyo doesn’t see the smile cross the vampire’s face. But, he does feel the lips brush the wounds, forcing a soft moan to escape his own lush mouth. He struggles more, but puts little force into his fight.
“Something tells me I won’t be told no.” Die whispers against the wounds. He kisses over them once more, then he nips the boy gently with his own fangs. His prey tenses in his arms, gasping out another of those pretty little cries of his. He laughs gently, moving his lips to the youth’s ear. “How can you say no?”
“By opening my mouth and saying it, so fuck off.” Kyo almost growls, though his own voice is husky. Again, he struggles against the vampire, but in seconds he is almost crushed to the hard body of the arms holding him.
“Sit with me, Kyo.” Die purrs, amused and aroused by the young man’s spirit. He feels the youth move, he feels the pushes against his chest, the wriggling of the toned little body. He can almost hear more ugly words passing through such beautiful, succulent lips. And then, the youth goes still.
“How . . . how do you know my name?” Kyo asks, his hands flat on Die’s chest, palms in mid push to dislodge him from the strong embrace. He feels the deep chuckle as it vibrates softly against his hands, and then the red head’s lips are next to his ear once more.
“You leave little guarded, beautiful.” The red head whispers, then dips his face a tiny bit lower and kisses the wounds again. “So very little.” Kyo pushes harshly, and as he does so, Die feels as the youth’s mind all but shuts him out. So, he thinks to himself, this on is a quick learner. Good.
“You have no right!” Kyo’s voice is rough and throaty. Though his arousal is still apparent, his anger is also just as obvious. The flow of his blood was like music to Die’s ear, a siren’s call. . Telling him to come and feed. The vampire struggles to ignore the offering made by Kyo’s beautiful, fast pulse.
“How is one supposed to avoid such interesting things when they are all but flung at one’s feet?” Die purrs the question, fingers ghosting over the wounds. They pulse gently under his digits, and it’s all he can do to keep himself from placing his own fangs inside of them, hearing the call of Kyo’s blood once more. He leans in closely, and he scents the youth, smelling Toshiya all over the one in his arms. The twin marks the younger vampire had made were a brand on the youth, claiming him as his own. It was unlawful, it was vulgar. Kyo lived in Die’s territory. His hunting grounds. Toshiya, that fool, was daring him to take action. Being completely stupid! The red head holds back a low growl and his tongue washes over the marks, tasting them. The boy’s blood teased him once more, sounding it’s pulsing call loudly in his mind. As this happened, Die saw Toshiya’s damnable little grin in his mind’s eye.
“I’m not flinging anything at anyone.” Kyo growls, forcefully trying to get away from Die. This brings the vampire’s attention back to the situation at hand. He laughs softly at the boy, the chuckle was a cold vibration against hot skin.
“If only you knew, beautiful.” Still, he let the youth go, and as soon as he did, Kyo all but jumped back. The boy was glaring at the vampire - and if looks were able to hold the strength of the sun, Die would have been burned into nothing on the spot. It only made him want Kyo more, that angry, heart stopping glare. It made the redhead smile. Kyo snarled at him, his mind searching out words to counter him. . .
“Kyo-kun?” The voice was low, full of curiosity. Die whipped around to see another youth that was looking over his shoulder at the blonde with great concern. This one was tall, very thin. Gentle, graceful features, but strong eyes which showed the iron soul beneath. He had a highly feminine appearance, but his deep voice betrayed his gender. Die gives him a once over, and then turns his attention back to Kyo, who was then moving past him. “Is everything alright?” The new comer is looking at the vampire with great suspicion. Die can feel the protective instinct all but radiating from Kyo’s friend. And, there was something else. Something that makes Die’s eyes narrow.
“Yeah, Shin-kun, I’m fine.” Kyo replies, looking at Die in a way which was unreadable. Full of emotions, his eyes could never be blank. They were too deep. But just like an ocean, they held mysteries, which could take centuries to unravel. Die found himself wanting to solve every little thing the boy could hold. He watches the youth in return over his shoulder, and then he slowly turns so he could face them both.
“Who is this?” The tall youth asks, studying Die as Kyo leans against another nearby table. The blonde has a sudden aura around him, untouchable, tough as nails. It makes Die smirk. Mask wearers had always intrigued him, and infuriated him.
“Nobody.” Kyo lies, soft smirk on his delicious lips. “We just bumped into each other.” He shrugged to emphasis the point of carelessness in his statement, but his eyes shifted to Die. The oculars went down cast, then looked back to his tall friend, who was giving the short blonde a look that read ‘don’t try to shit me, shorty’. Of course, the tall femme just nodded.
“Well, in that case, let’s go. I got the two of us a table upstairs. You’ll like it.” ‘Shin-kun’ reached out and all but grabbed Kyo’s arm, nodding his parting to Die as he dragged the smaller man along with him. Kyo just shrugged at the vampire and went with his friend, leaving Die alone next to the reserved booth in the shadows. The redhead smirked as the two left.
“I’ll see you later, beautiful.” Die states softly, going to take a seat in the shadows.
--
Kyo moves away from Shinya’s hand as soon as they are out of Die’s viewing range. He glares daggers at his friend.
“What the hell took you so long?” He rubs his arm where it had been gripped. Shinya was a lot stronger than he looked or let on. The taller one stops and rolls his eyes at Kyo as he does so. He places a hand on one hip.
“Getting ready.” Shinya states. “And seriously, just –who- was that? And,” he gestures with his free hand, pointing his finger at Kyo, “don’t tell me you ‘just bumped into him’ again!”
“I did!” Kyo bursts then he glowers and crosses his arms, pouting at the other man. The two resume walking after a moment of silence. “You really didn’t get one of the tables upstairs, did you?”
“No.” Shinya smirks. “That’s the VIP area, only the ‘special patrons’ get that privilege.”
“Dirty liar.” Kyo smirks in return, and Shinya cast a gaze at him, eyebrow raised.
“Look whose talking.”
“Seriously, I just bumped into him!” Kyo’d stopped again, fists at his sides, indignation burning in his eyes and a blush blooming across his cheeks. As he stood there, glaring, he thinks of the redhead, and it makes the blush ten times worse.
“Sure . . . “ Shinya smirks once more, stopping as well. “That looked like a really comfortable ‘bump’ to me.”
“What?!” Kyo snapped. “How much did you . . . HEY!” He knew he’d been tricked into saying more than he should. Shinya had a way with unraveling his lies.
“Ha! I knew it!” The tall feminine youth pointed at the shorter one once more. “I knew you were trying to shit your way out of it! Who is he?”
“What the hell is it to you?” Kyo growls, walking away quickly. This puzzled him, puzzled him immensely. He usually could tell Shinya anything and everything. Why not this?
“I’m your friend, baka, that’s what the hell it is to me.” Shinya was right at his heels. Unsurprising. Worry was apparent in his voice. Once more, that was no surprise to the short blonde youth that was still stomping his way along. “Who was he Kyo?” They were outside then, heading towards the parking lot of the club.
“I don’t know!” Kyo turns to Shinya then, yelling. He hangs his head at the look on his friend’s face. Then he sighs and calms. “Just some guy.” He mumbles, whipping his hand down his face and sighing once more, his other hand curled as a fist on his hip.
“That’s never a really good situation.” Shinya states as he places a gentle hand on his friend’s shoulder. “The way he was looking at you . . . and you not knowing a thing about him.“
“His name is Die.” Kyo shrugs slightly. “So, see, I do know –something-.” He looks up at the other man, defiantly. Shinya smirks lightly, his lip quirking at the other youth’s stance.
“That is the most unpromising name ever. Especially for a situation like this.”
“I like it.” Kyo looks away again, rubbing the back of his neck. Embarrassed, blushing once more.
“You would.” Shinya’s smirk grows.
“What the fuck is –that- suppose to mean?”
“Perfect name for a serial killer or a rapist. Of course –you’d- like it, you twisted weirdo.” Shinya was teasing, of course, but the look on Kyo’s face would have seemed like rage to an outsider.
“You think I’d let him –rape- me?”
“That’s why they call it ‘rape’, Kyo. Most people don’t want it to happen.”
“Are you saying I would want it?”
“No!” Shinya rolls his eyes, taking his turn to wipe his hand down his face in annoyance.
“Then what the hell?”
“That’s your short blonde ass putting words into my mouth, you damn moron!”
“Shin-kun. . .” Kyo’s voice was full of awe. “Did you just. . . ?” He covers his mouth, a smile reaching his eyes.
“Did I just –what-?” Shinya growls, not getting where Kyo was going with this, and not getting why he had that manic look of pure amusement in his eyes.
“You did!” Kyo’s hand uncovers his mouth, and he breaks out into cackles that echo off the walls of the club. “You cursed without my help!”
“I hate you sometimes.” Shinya rolled his eyes and rubbed his temples in annoyance, glaring at Kyo as he did so.
“Well, if you hate me so much, next time just leave me to the rapist/serial killer . . .” The short blonde smirked, walking a little faster than his friend.
“Deal.” Shinya all but hissed.
“HEY!”
“What, it was your idea!”
“Fuck you!”
--
Their fuss as they walked away from the club is observed from the shadows high above the street. A cruel smile crosses the hawk like countenance of yet another vampire, hidden deep in those shadows.
“Die-chan . . .” The shadow vampire asks no one, voice low and deep and almost cooing. “Do you have a pretty little blonde toy?” He chuckles deeply, then moves through the shadows swiftly, vanishing from the rooftop in no more than a blink of an eye.
