Yay, I've got two chapters today. Mostly because it's my day off and I needed something to do. Well, enjoy.

Carmine pulled away from Gerard, fixing an icy gaze Bert. “Robert… Fuck I didn’t realize you were the singer for The Used.” “Well I’m just full of surprises, but you’d know all about that wouldn’t you?” Bert replied, glaring at Carmine in return. “Uh, do you two know each other?” Gerard asked. “We did, about a million years ago.” Carmine told him. “But not any longer.” Bert added. “No, not any longer.” Bert stepped closer and Carmine flinched, stepping back.
Gerard saw this but didn’t get a chance to comment on it as Bert stood in front of him. “Gee, I wanna talk to you, now.” He said, then looked at Carmine. “Amscray squirt.” “Only if Gerard asks me to leave.” He replied, and Gerard once again was struck by how noble Carmine looked. Gerard looked at him, then Bert, and sighed. “Carmine would you please wait outside?” “Sure.” He said, and left the back room.
“Okay Bert, what’s going on ?” Gerard asked. “Gee… I thought that, y’know, you were straight?” Bert asked, his greasy dark hair hanging in his stubbled face. Gerard blinked, then asked, “Bert is that what this is about? I’ve told you before I’m bisexual.” “I thought you weren’t serious. I mean you say a lot of shit you don’t mean when you’ve been drinking.” Bert said lamely, then turned his back on Gerard. “Are you… Are you mad at me? And how the hell do you know Carmine?” He asked.
“No! God no I’m not mad at you Gerard!” Bert exclaimed, turning around. “I’m just shocked man.” “Oh come ON Bert, I wear a feather boa onstage and tongue wrestle with you and Frankie on a regular basis! And you never thought I might like guys?” Gerard asked, annoyed. “Well, no, ‘cause you always say that you do it for showmanship and that you’re not gay.” “I’m not damn it, I’m bi. So I like boys and girls.” “Well that’s good.” Bert said, looking at the curtain Carmine had left through.
“So how do you two know each other?” Asked Gerard, and Bert’s attention focused back on him. “Who, me and Carmine? We went to high school together. We were friends for a while but we just grew apart and then ended up becoming enemies. But he moved after he graduated and I haven’t seen him until now.” Bert said, then looked at Gerard. “So you two going out?” “Uh, yeah, surprise.” Gerard said and smiled sheepishly. “Yeah… Well before you take any big steps, make sure that Carmine and you nave known each other for a LONG time, and know everything about each other.” Bert suddenly turned and left.
Carmine watched him go, then looked at Gerard. He crooked his finger at Carmine, who got up and went into the back, Gerard closing the curtain after him. “So you and Bert. I gotta ask did you date back in high school? Because I gotta tell you he seems pretty hostile for just a former friend.” “You are remarkably perceptive.” Carmine replied and sat on one of the bunks. Gerard sat next to him as Carmine sighed. “Yeah, we dated for a while. And the break up was… God it was bad. But I put it behind me and I don’t like to talk about it.”
“You’ll tell me though, right?” He asked, taking Carmine’s hand. “If this keeps up and going and I feel I can trust you, you’ll be the first to know.” Gerard nodded, figuring that was the most he could hope for since they’d only known each other for a day. But he already felt himself becoming strongly attached to the boy. “Well, we’re supposed to take stage here pretty soon, you wanna come watch?” Carmine just smirked and said, “Duh.” “Alright, come on, I wanna show you the stage.”
Gerard took Carmine’s hand and they left the bus, amidst greetings and assurances that they would meet up later. They had to weave through roadies and random crew members, and even a few reporters to get there. Once they did it was all silence. It was an indoor venue and no one had come in yet. It was that time after the roadies had set up, after first sound check and before second sound check, before the fans were allowed in.
“Come on.” Gerard said, then pulled Carmine up on the stage with him. “So what’s it like? Playing big stages like this. We only ever play dingy little clubs.” Carmine stated. “It’s… Well it’s fucking nerve wracking which is why I usually have a couple beers before I go on.” Gerard said, running a hand through his hair. “I’ve heard it’s more than that though, do you really pop pills and shit?” Carmine asked, turning to look at him.
“No, I just take my Xanax and stuff so that I don’t go off the deep end.” Gerard replied. It was a lie of course, but he didn’t want to scare Carmine off. He gave Gerard a piercing look, almost like he could smell the lie. But he let it go and turned back to the microphone, testing it. “Hm… You need to have a talk with your roadies.” “What, why?” “Observe.” Carmine replied, then took his walking stick and tossed it at the stand. Sparks flew and exploded at the lightest touch.
“Shit!” Gerard yelled as the stick hit the ground. “The damn thing was live, if you’d touched it you’d have been Kentucky Fried Chicken.” Carmine said, unplugging it with his foot. “God damn… I knew Sadie was inexperienced but I didn’t know she was THAT fucking inept! Damn.” Gerard sighed, then looked at Carmine. “You have experience with this stuff?” “Well yeah, I have a band with a budget of negative 73, also roadie work helps to pay the bills.” He smiled and asked, “Want a job? Sadie will have to go and we’ll need a replacement.”
Carmine looked at him. “You serious?” “Yeah. I mean I’ll have to clear it with Brian and the others, but I think they’ll give the okay.” Carmine was quiet, obviously thinking. “Well I have to make sure it’s okay with my band. I mean we’re not doing anything right now and I’m not working either. But if the guys say yes then I’ve just gotta go back to LA and pack.” “So you’ll do it?” Carmine smiled and said, “Sure.” Gerard grinned and pulled Carmine into a hug, then kissed his lips. Happy as can be.
