TABULA RASA: Chapter Four
Announcement: Yes, I know I haven’t written. This will probably suck too. For some reason my muse just hasn’t been working properly and hardly at all on RP sites. Grrr…. And I’m still not sure about what to do about Tuesday and Patrick. Yay for making up B.S.
Tuesday looked around cautiously. They had been away for the RV for some time but she certainly didn’t mind being there with Patrick at her side, holding hands simply as they normally did. It was nice out there at least and not too far away from the place at all. The trees were beautiful and the sky was slowly beginning to darken. But she was still wary. Somehow she felt like they were both being watched no matter where they went. And it bothered her, more than usual.
She frowned and looked again, swearing she had seen something bright. She wasn’t sure what it was but she knew it had to be there. She squinted into the light and looked to Patrick who was looking around as well. Though he didn’t seem as worried as she was. He rarely ever was.
“Patrick… did you see something? I could have sworn I saw something just there. Did you?” She asked, nudging him lightly with her right elbow and she looked around. But the light was gone again just like that. Now she was beginning to think she might be going mad. And that was never a pleasant thought.
“What?” He asked, looking up finally and shook his head with a little shrug. “I don’t think so but maybe we should be getting back. I mean we’ve already well…” He teased, remembering their recent make out session in the woods away from everyone else. He had been curious and decided to wander a little bit before going back to the others.
She blushed and smiled a little. He always managed to make her do that no matter what they were in for. It was just something about him that thrilled her. That and something about the woods made it even more exciting.
“Shhh…. I might have been seeing things. Who knows…. I hate seeing things. Let’s just keep looking, shall we? For safety’s sake, anyway. Or should we go back to the RV? The boys might have found dinner for us.” She shrugged, trying to make the decision but unsure of it.
Patrick smirked a little but looked around anyway just to appease her. He wasn’t sure what to think either. Normally he did trust Tuesday of course but the woods might have been playing tricks on her. After all it was getting dark. Reflections and the like might have played a hand in it. “I dunno, we can look a little bit if you want and then go back to the van. How’s that? That we can appease the curious beast within AND get dinner.” He said, his stomach rumbling as if on cue, and shrugged again. He was always there to please so it seemed.
Tuesday nodded. It couldn’t hurt. After all, she had something of a guardian with her in case anything happened. Sure she could take care of herself but it was nice to know Patrick was there too in case anything went askew. She was sure that wouldn’t happen. They were just woods, weren’t they?
Just woods, she assured herself. In the middle of nowhere… She felt like she needed a flashlight to run around and scream witch. “All right then, brave explorer, which way to turn now?”
“I say just up ahead in the direction where you saw that weird light of yours. It can’t be all that dangerous, lights anyway. I never met one that hurt a fellow.” He said, moving forward and continued to hold her hand gently.
She smiled back at him and pushed her hair out of her face before wandering further towards the light. Then she caught a glimpse of something else and a rushing sound. “What was that? Come on, tell me you heard that this time. Or I’m really going crazy.”
But Patrick was looking just as curious as she was. He had heard it too and was moving towards the same spot where Tuesday had heard it. “Hey…. Is anyone there? Anyone at all? Come on out, if you are.” He said, protectively standing in front of Tuesday. “Don’t worry. You’re not going crazy on my watch. Either that or I just imagined it at the same time as you. I hope to God it’s a squirrel.”
Tuesday shook her head. She knew squirrels didn’t make that much noise but it didn’t hurt to think it anyway. “Yeah, come out, we promise we won’t hurt you.” She looked to Patrick whose eyebrows raised curiously. He hoped they wouldn’t have to.
Then out of the near darkness of the sheltered woods came a little boy who was munching on something with a big plastered grin on his face. He was holding something as well, the something that might have been what reflected from the sunlight. It was a locket, some small piece of the mystery that the two had no way of knowing was going on. Or of the strangers with the boys who were helping them eat.
Before they could say anything at all, the boy flashed the same big smile again and giggled. Then into almost thin air he vanished completely. Shell shocked, the two just stared. What had just happened? Tuesday and Patrick just finally looked at each other in confusion. Had he really just laughed at them then disappeared?
“Maybe we should… get back to the RV.” Patrick said finally, his throat a little tight with shock.
“Yeah, and we… food. Yeah, good thing. Food is good.” Tuesday agreed with a fierce nod before they both dashed back in the regular direction of the RV. Hopefully, there would be safety there and food. Anything but weird disappearing strangers.
(random brain farts, yay! What could have possibly just happened? What will the others discover in Eden? Will I actually have plot bunnies? Tune in next time for my sucky fan fic! Yay!)
