They did an encore as they usually do – they could never say “no” to the audience.
By the end of it, when they got back to the locker room, they barely had any energy left as they collapsed all over the room, some on the cold floor, some on the couch.
When Rei got to the locker room, she was slightly surprised to find them scattered around the room with the staff member handing them towels.
Kai was curled up on the ground, panting, gasping for air. His hair was soaking wet from his own sweat, his body shaking and sore.
‘Kai…’ Rei, who just got down from the roof to the locker room saw Kai, immediately went to attend to his needs. ‘My goodness.’ It hurt her a little to see her friends like this. ‘This is called overworked guys…’ She smiled sadly, pushing Kai’s hair away from his face in a motherly manner.
‘It’s… never… over… work…’ Kai said, gasping for air.
‘Kai, shut your mouth, you can barely breathe.’ Rei said as one of the staff handed her a towel. ‘You big baby.’ She put the towel under his head.
Kai smiled gratefully up at her before she got up to take a look at the others.
‘Ey.’ Ruki could hardly speak as he was lying on the couch near Reita who had his eyes closed.
Rei only smiled at the two before attending to Aoi, who lied on the floor on his back. He was looking straight up at the ceiling, his hands on his chest.
‘Hey.’ She smiled as she went to lie down next to him.
‘Hey.’ His voice was a little shaken from all the screaming. ‘How were we?’ He asked.
‘Amazing. You brought down the roof.’ She smiled up at the ceiling. She was now lying next to him, her hands on her side, feeling the warmth of his body.
He smiled to the ceiling as he put his hands to his sides, only to have one hand come into contact with Rei’s.
She jerked for a second, though she made no move to pull her hand away.
He slid his hand under hers, sliding his fingers between hers, holding her hand in a relaxed manner in his.
They lied there for what seemed like forever, when the staff told them they had to go.
All but Kai had regained a little strength back to at least get onto their feet and walk, whilst Kai needed help to get up.
‘I’ll take him, it’s fine.’ Rei said to the staff, who went to help Kai.
‘Rei, you don’t have to…’ Kai said, sounding a little better than the last time he tried to speak.
‘I want to.’ She smiled to the man as she put his arm over her shoulders, helping him stand. ‘Can you walk with me?’
Kai nodded.
‘It’s okay, put your weight on me, I may be small but I’m not weak…’ She chuckled.
Kai did as told, he was in no condition to refuse.
Back at the boys’ hotel suite…
‘Where’s his room?’ Rei, still supporting Kai, whose eyes are barely open anymore – he was so exhausted he wished he could’ve stayed on stage and just sleep with those damned drums he loves so much.
‘Here.’ Uruha lead Rei to Kai’s room, where she helped him onto his bed, took off his shoes and took off his wet shirt before tucking him in. ‘Night, Kai-kun.’ She kissed his cold forehead before leaving the room.
Ruki was already in the shower when Rei got back to the living room, to find Reita asleep on the couch, Aoi sitting sleepily on the armchair and Uruha lying on the couch, though his eyes were wide open.
‘I should go home.’ Rei said.
‘How?’ Uruha asked. ‘We drove you home this afternoon and took you to the venue, how do you think you’ll get home?’
‘Bus?’ Rei winced.
‘No way.’ Uruha chuckled. ‘Not at this hour, it’s past midnight and you’re tired. Not the best time to go home with public transport.’
‘He’s right.’ Aoi managed sleepily.
‘I’m not tire-‘ Rei’s words were cut off by her yawning, ‘d’
‘Right. Very convincing princess.’ Reita said, watching her through his half-closed eyelids as he sat slouched on the couch – he wasn’t asleep after all.
‘Come on, it’s not like you’ve anything to go home to.’ Aoi said honestly.
It was like a giant slap to her face.
She slowly turned to him and looked at him with questioning eyes.
‘I… I’m sorry.’ Aoi realised he’d said the wrong thing.
‘I think I’ll be okay.’ She took a few steps towards the door to go, when Aoi got up off the armchair before stopping her, grabbing her by the wrist.
‘Rei, I’m sorry.’ He said.
Reita saw that they needed to be left alone. ‘Uruha,’ he whispered to Uruha, who only looked at him in return. Reita gestured that they should leave the room.
Uruha mouthed “why” to Reita, who glared at him before the both of them left the room quietly, retreating into their own bedrooms.
‘Rei, I’m sorry.’ Aoi repeated.
‘No, Aoi, “I” am sorry.’ Rei said, looking away from his searching eyes.
‘No, stop it!’ Aoi let go of her wrist, his hands now clenched on his sides. ‘This… this is silly!’
‘I… I know…’ She felt the tears coming back. ‘I know, I’m sorry. You were right. About everything… I know that now, and I’m sorry…’
Aoi seemed a little struck by her admitting she was wrong – for once there was nothing that needed to be said. After a long minute of silence, he wrapped his arms around her and pulled her close to him, enveloping her like he was never going to let go.
She began to cry, wetting the fabric of his top, smudging the material with her make-up.
‘I love you.’ Aoi whispered to her ear before planting a kiss on the top of her head.
‘I… love you too…’ She managed between the sobs, with her face buried in his chest.
‘Will you let me stay?’ Aoi asked, smiling to himself.
Rei pushed him away a little before looking him in the eye.
‘Do you trust me now?’ He asked, taking hold of her hands.
‘I never distrusted you, I just… it was me I couldn’t trust… I couldn’t trust myself that I’m never going to get jealous… but that doesn’t matter, I know now… all that matters is I trust you.’ She managed a smile as her crying ceased.
‘Well, it’s better late than never I supposed…’ He let out a small laugh as he bent down a little to level his face with hers. ‘Can I stay?’
She nodded before she closed her eyes as he leaned closer, pressing his lips gently against hers.
She wrapped her arms around his neck as she felt the cold metal of his lip ring on her lips for the second time that night. She felt her whole body tingle as she was properly relieved of that longing that had been a burden for years.
She opened her mouth a little to let his wandering tongue access to her mouth.
There was no rush. They couldn’t care less if any of the other boys entered the living room now. He placed his hands on her back as if supporting her as his tongue continued to dance with hers. He pulled her closer to him, pressing her body against his own, just as Ruki stepped out of the bathroom, wrapped only in his towel.
His jaw dropped at the sight before him as he tried to close the bathroom door without making a noise.
Rei gasped and pulled away as she heard the bathroom door slam close, with Ruki standing outside of it, watching them with his mouth open.
‘Sorry.’ Ruki blushed.
Aoi only smiled as he straightened up – he’d had to bend down a little when he kissed her, she was a little shorter than Ruki.
‘What…’ Ruki began. ‘Should I ask?’ He asked first.
‘Nope.’ Rei shook her head immediately.
Aoi glanced at her for a second before agreeing. ‘Yeah, no, just go to sleep Ruki.’ Aoi let out a small laugh.
‘Alright.’ Ruki smiled uncomfortably before walking rather too quickly towards his own room, glancing quickly back at the two of them just standing there before he disappeared into his room.
‘You going to tell them?’ Rei asked.
‘What of?’ Aoi asked back, still smiling.
‘That I take the job?’ Rei smiled slyly.
‘So you’ll be co-lyricist with Ruki?’ Aoi asked, wrapping his arms around her again, looking down at her.
She nodded, looking up at him.
‘What about me?’ Aoi asked.
‘I am yours for the taking…’ she replied, her eyes glowing.
Aoi smiled before he leaned in once more to kiss her again, taking back what had always belonged to him.
She was his once more.
