Summary: Three witches are celebrating midsummer and then they receive a gift from the Goddess.
The heat from the last few days have died down and Orlando was sitting in his house with the slide doors wide open. A cool breeze was blowing in through the doors and he had his feet up on the coffee table, reading a book. He loved Sunday afternoons like these and enjoyed the peace and quiet. Usually he was out with friends on Saturday night, partying and drinking beer, but he declined the offer this weekend though. He was still wearing a smile on his face after Friday night’s encounter with the Witches. Mmm…The Witches.
He put his book down and made his way to the kitchen for a drink. Because he was finding it hard to concentrate on his murder mystery. When he got back into the living room, Sidi had jumped up and was running outside making soft barking noises. It was the kind of noises he made when he saw someone and tried to scare them away.
“A visitor?” He wondered to himself and place his drink down on the table. He leaned against the sliding door and stared outside to see if he could spot someone. Chantel was coming up the path, wearing a floral print dress and a white sweater.
Orlando felt annoyed. He didn’t like co-worker showing up at his house on weekends, but then in a split second he remembered her, naked, begging him for more. It seemed that his mind was having a hard time separating the two images because he was not use to seeing her naked, in the forest.
“Hi” She greeted him with some trepidation.
“Hi” He greeted back, not sure really what to expect.
“I looked through the office’s records and found your home address, I hope you don’t mind.” She said as she stopped in front of the doors. Sidi was happy to see her and trying to get her attention.
“You better greet the boss of the house first.” Laughed Orlando.
When Sidi was calmed down he invited her inside.
“Can I get you anything? A Coke, beer? Tea?” He gestured to the couch for her to sit down.
Chantel declined politely and got straight to the point.
“Listen, I came here to tell you that this stays between us. What happened Friday night…what you saw, what we did…Don’t tell anyone or I will seriously .. I will, I will…”
“Curse me?” Smirked Orlando.
“See, that is exactly why I don’t want people to know that I am a witch!” She crossed her arms and blew her fringe out of her eyes.
She looked adorable when she was angry, Orlando decided.
“Was that the only reason you came all the way down here? To tell me not to tell?” He asked.
Her expression softened and the corners of her lips curled into a smile even though it was obvious that she was trying to hide it from him.
“I also came over to tell you that umm…”She hesitated for a moment. “That we will be celebrating the Full moon on Tuesday, so if you want to come…?”
Orlando burst out laughing.
She scowled at him.
“Sorry, sorry!” He put his hands up in a ‘I surrender’ pose. “I just didn’t expect that you would invite me.”
“I wasn’t planning on, it just slipped out.” She was trying to backtrack herself.
“I’ll be there.” Orlando said seriously.
“But I don’t know anything about Witches, or about full moon spells and voo-doo.”
“You’ll learn.” She said over her shoulder as she turned around to leave.
“Wait! Don’t leave.”
“I’ll see you at work tomorrow.” She waved over he shoulder and left through the open doors.
Orlando smiled to himself and picked up his drink and took a big gulp. He picked up his book and tried to read again.
* * *
It was early Monday evening, when Orlando entered the book store near his office. The girl behind the counter greeted him friendly and he smiled back. Orlando was a great reader, ever since his break up with his last girlfriend 9 months ago he spent pretty much all his time reading. He stood around for a moment, looking around. What was he looking for? Usually he headed straight to the second hand section but tonight he was interested in something else but he wasn’t exactly sure what it is.
He went up to the counter.
“Excuse me, but I am looking for a book on…” He lowered his voice. “Witchcraft.”
“You can find it in the Spirituality section, under occult.” She smiled back, not looking surprised at all. “We also have some in the second hand section in the back.”
“Thanks.” Orlando ran his hand through his hair and turned to go in the spirituality section. Who would have though.
The store was rather busy but this section was rather quiet, only one mysterious looking man was standing by the shelf, leaving through a book with odd looking symbols.
Orlando glanced at him sideways and then started looking at the titles of books.
“What am I doing?”, he thought to himself. “Am I going to let Chantel’s invitation enchant me to buy books about Witches?”
He picked up a book randomly and there was a moon and a tree on the cover. He flipped it open randomly and then shut it and returned it to the shelf. He did the same again with another book, and yet another.
The other man standing a few feet away from him looked up and the met eyes.
He was at least 15 years older than Orlando, with dark hair and eyes with a pair of dark framed glasses.
“Is there anything specific you are looking for?” The older man asked. “Maybe I can help you.”
He was dressed in a simple white shirt and jeans but there was a slight scent of musk and incense about him.
“Well umm.. I don’t really know what I am looking for. I am just trying to understand a situation I in was in, a little better.” Orlando shrugged and looked at the shelves again.
“So you are pretty new to the occult then?” asked the dark man.
Orlando nodded embarrassed.
The stranger pulled out a book from the shelf and handed it to Orlando.
“I am not sure if this will be sufficient enough for your needs but it has a lot of the basics, if you need to know.”
“Thanks.” Orlando took the book and looked down at it.
“I hope it helps you with your questions, but if it doesn’t, just ask me if you see me hanging around here again. I am always happy to help.”
He turned to leave and patted Orlando on the back.
That was friendly, thought Orlando. He looked through the book and a few minutes later he had paid for it and was on his way home. He couldn’t wait to go and lie in his bed and read about full moons.

Tuesday passed in a blur and Orlando was kept very busy with his work all afternoon. He hardly spoke to Chantel at all and was actually rather glad about it, because he still felt a bit weird around her. He never thought much about her before the past weekend, but what happened played over and over in his mind.. What she said was playing through his mind too.
“I have wanted this for such a long time. You are all I can think about.”
What did she mean by this? Had she hidden feelings for him and he was so blind never to have noticed before.
He had to admit, she was funny, witty and smart, not at all bad to look at, but he never thought of her in that way before.
He looked over to her desk. She was in deep concentration, looking at her computer screen, chewing on a pencil. She was wearing a light pink blouse with the top two buttons undone. Orlando leaned forward in his chair ever so slightly and he could see the white lace of her bra. He looked away again feeling guilty.
She slammed the pencil down and started typing furiously with a pout on her lips. She looked so cute.
“It’s 5:15 already, we should be shutting down.” Said Carl, one of Orlando’s co-workers.
“I’ll be done in a second, one second.” Grumble Chantel. “I just need to fix this one little problem.”
“Stop being so dedicated to your job, you make the rest of us look bad.” Said Carl again.
“She has no life.” Joked Peter.
“Ok ok, I am done!” she said and grabbed her stuff. “Let’s get out of here.”
Carl held open the door and everyone slipped out, and as they did, Chantel linked her arm though Orlando’s and whispered in his ear:
“Coming tonight?”
It startled him a bit and he looked at her in surprise. He wasn’t even sure he if he was going yet or not.
“Vanessa’s is bringing her husband.” Said Chantel.
“Who is Vanessa?” asked Orlando, puzzled.
“Moonblossom.” Whispered Chantel though her teeth.
“What?!” Orlando let go of Chantel’s arm suddenly. “She is married?!”
“What are you to talking about?” asked Peter.
Chantel pulled Orlando to a halt and gestured for the others to leave with out them.
“Married?” He repeated. “Her husband is going to kill me if I show up there and if he finds out-“
“No, he won’t. It’s all part of the Great Rite of Midsummer, and he was absent for that.” She interrupted him.
“What the fuck is the Great Rite? Anyway, that is not the point!”
“It didn’t mean anything with Vanessa, he knows that. Plus …oh never mind. It’s all to hard to explain right now. Just come tonight? Please?”
She looked at him with such a sweet, pleading look on her face that he gave in.
“Ok, I’ll be there, but if he kicks my ass you are going do my work while I am in hospital.” He laughed.
“Deal.” She agreed.
Things are going to get interesting from here on so stick around.
