The chaos that ensued after Ivy’s initial comment about getting to the hospital was almost deafening. And the chief panicking person was not the mother, but instead Pete. He started running about as if he were a chicken with its head cut off. And that was something, given the mass of people. Patrick finally managed to catch him before giving him a firm slap across the face. “Pete, you gotta get Ivy to the hospital now. You can’t afford to be panicking now. You’re going to be a father soon. So just chill out and get Ivy into the car and head to the hospital. If you want, I’ll even come along and drive you guys.”
Pete merely nodded before heading back out into the crowd, to get Ivy to the car. However instead of getting her to the car, Pete merely went to the car himself, as Ivy was in the coat room gathering her coat.
Patrick went back to where Becca and Cat were standing together talking very animatedly over the hubbub of commotion going on throughout the room, and leaned over to talk in Becca’s ear so that she could hear him. “I’m going to take Pete and Ivy to the hospital. You can come along after me to meet your new niece or nephew. I just don’t want Pete to get into an accident while trying to get to the hospital because of his nerves or anything. Love you.” He pulled away and left a kiss on Becca’s cheek before heading back out to the car.
Becca merely smiled and nodded to Patrick, knowing that if it were left up to Pete, then either he would leave without Ivy in a frantic rush to the hospital, or he would end up driving completely into the ER. Becca turned back to Cat with a laugh. “Yep, good thing Patrick’s driving. Otherwise Pete might end up in some serious trouble.”
The music and party started back up after the commotion over the impending birth of the babies and the panic of Pete, which was a source of amusement. At least until a still very pregnant and in labor Ivy stormed up to Becca, frown on her face. “Your dimwitted brother and husband just drove off and left me, the woman in labor, here! Becca, you gotta drive me to the hospital. Because as many great people as we have here, I don’t think we have a certified doctor here. And Cat, I don’t even want to hear you talk about your cousin either. She might be my doctor, but she’s drunk! And there’s not going to be any drunk people handling my babies! So hospital now!”
Becca turned to Cat with an apologetic shrug. Of course there wasn’t much that either of them could do about Pete and Patrick having left without her. But of course Ivy was never much for rational thought. And being in labor wasn’t helping that little fact either. And given that lately Ivy had been rather hard to get along with in general, there wasn’t much that Becca or Cat could do about that. So Cat merely shook her head before motioning off towards the exit. “Go ahead, Becs. I’ll follow shortly. After I get some of these guys settled down and such. And don’t worry, Ivy, Sophie is not drunk. She doesn’t drink when she’s on call. Let me find Soph then we’ll head over to follow you guys. Be safe, Becs.”
Ivy was impatiently tapping her foot as Becca went to the coatroom to get her own coat before heading to the garage. And soon enough they made it to the ER, no help to Ivy’s frustrated screaming and backseat driving, which very quickly wore on Becca’s nerves. Once parked she managed to get her very pregnant and in labor sister-in-law into the ER, where Pete and Patrick were both standing around looking very much embarrassed. Although of course Ivy was not in a forgiving mood and instantly started screaming at Pete, while they nurse wheeled her back into the delivery room.
Becca and Patrick followed, stopping in the maternity waiting room. Becca was supposed to be one of the people in the delivery room with Ivy, but at the moment, she didn’t want to be anywhere near the screaming woman who reminded Becca of a banshee more than a human. So instead Becca and Patrick sat in the waiting room with his arm around his wife’s shoulders. Pete somehow managed to escape the fury of his wife and was sent back out to the waiting room to merely give the family the news, the twins were definitely coming.
After having delivered the initial news, Pete started to pace. Of course that was nothing terribly different from normal, as he was always a bit of a pacer when nervous. But this time, nothing that either Becca or Patrick could say would help him. The doctor came out shortly after this and asked for the father to please follow him back. This of course caused Pete to panic, thus resulting in him passing out from the shock of it all.
Becca laughed at Pete’s panic, while Patrick grabbed a bottle of water that was sitting on the table nearest to him before dumping the entire bottle’s contents on Pete. This of course caused Becca to laugh while shaking her head at her husband’s tactics. “Honestly Patrick. Water?”
Patrick merely shrugged with a bright grin. “Hey, it worked, didn’t it?” And it did, Pete hopped up, looking around confused before his eyes landed on the doctor, who was trying to contain the smirk on his face. Then soon enough the two went back into the delivery room again, leaving Becca and Patrick merely looking at each other before bursting into laughter for a bit.
Things quickly settled down, and Becca did her best to contain the slight panic over being stuck in a hospital, as she wasn’t the fondest of them in general. So she merely sat back in one of the chairs trying to keep her mind off the setting in general. She pulled out her phone and called her parents to let them both know what was going on, in case they hadn’t been told yet. Although apparently Mickey had called Mama Wentz and she was heading over to the party to pick her up with Jon. A few more calls around, and Becca was beginning to be able to ignore the panic swelling in her chest at being in the hospital, even merely to visit.
Suddenly the doctor walked back around the corner with a smile on his face. “Would the family of the Wentz babies come with me please?” Just having the doctor asking for the family sent Becca into a minor panic attack. Patrick quickly wrapped his arms around his wife, reassuring her that it was likely nothing harmful, but merely just to see the babies. Of course everything would be perfectly alright for everyone involved. And sure enough when they made it to the large window where all the babies were situated, there was one baby with the nametag ‘Wentz’ on the small card at the baby’s head. Becca smiled at the tiny baby girl who was her niece. Patrick wrapped his arms around Becca’s waist with a smile on his face at the baby sleeping peacefully already.
The intercom interrupted the sweet moment with a page for the doctor with an emergency. He quickly disappeared back behind the doors to the delivery room. This was the last thing that Becca’s mind could handle and the panic took over, leaving her almost catatonic. Patrick quickly noticed the difference and tried to shake her into coming back to reality, but that didn’t seem to work too well. Even though he assured her that things were going to be perfectly fine, he had the sneaking suspicion that things were going to go south rather quickly.
Just as Patrick was about to go ask what the status on Ivy and the other baby were, Pete walked through the door in scrubs that were covered in blood. He walked up to where Becca and Patrick were standing with a blank look on his face and just stood there for a moment without saying anything. That was the first sign that they noticed telling them that things were not good for Ivy and the missing baby. Then after heaving a sigh that made Becca instantly turn and look at her brother anxiously, he finally spoke in a dead voice with no inflection.
“She’s dead.”
