"Okay guys, lets move! We've got to get these bags down to the van!"
Kai yelled from the middle of the lounge area, clapping his hands loudly. It was the big day - the first day of the 'Decomposition Tour'. It was exactly five minutes past six in the morning and the guys had already been up since five - the sun was only just starting to come up. Bags had been packed the night before but they still had to get an early start - their first stop was their management building. Ruki came striding out of the bedroom, closely followed by Uruha and Aoi. While the three of them took their bags - two in each hand - Kai put his hands on his hips and called for Reita.
"Reita come on, we are supposed to leave ..."
He looked at his watch and frowned.
"Five minutes ago?!"
Kai shook his watch and listened to it to make sure it was working and at the right time - it was. Kai cursed under his breath and grabbed his bags just as Reita came running out of the bedroom. Reita snatched his bags as he followed Kai to the front door.
"Sorry I was just packing the futon away".
"People are coming in to clear this place while we're gone anyway. We won't be coming back once we come home, Reita. When this is over we just go back to our own places".
"... oh right ..."
Reita said sheepishly, now remembering. That's what all the bags were for - it was all of the stuff they'd brought into the shared apartment from their own places. A black mini-van was waiting outside for them, ready to take their bags. Of the two bags the guys carried, one bag would be going back to their other places. While the other was for the Tour - holding accessories, clothing, bathroom items and the like. There was nothing left of them in the apartment now ... apart from the smell of Aoi's 'BVLGARI' cologne. Once Kai was out on the walkway, he stepped aside as Reita went past.
"Wait with the others down there, I've just got to lock this place up".
Reita nodded and made for the spiral steps. Kai set his bags down and quickly shut the door - no time to worry about what was left inside; the people coming to clean the place would let them know if anything was left behind. Once the door was locked, Kai gripped the key ring with his teeth and hoisted his bags up before striding to the steps.
On the car park level, the black mini-van was pointing in the direction of the exit with the engine running. An official in jeans, a thick white jacket and baseball cap working for Gazette's management spotted Kai sprinting towards him and he jumped out of the way just as Kai skidded to a stop by the side door of the van.
"Okay that's the last of our bags. So they'll be taken back to our apartments?"
Kai asked, still with the keys in his mouth, as he handed his 'home bag' to the official. The guy promptly set it inside the van and shut the door. He then took the apartment keys carefully from Kai's teeth.
"Yes don't worry, I've been told to stop by all of your houses to drop your bags off and make sure everything is still okay. Geez you'd think your International spies or something".
Kai laughed nervously and stepped back as the official climbed into his van. With one last salute to the band, he slowly coasted out of the car park and most likely in the direction of the Highway - he had at least a good half hour drive to get to his first stop on the 'Tour of Gazette's Apartments'. When the guy was out of sight, Kai turned to his band mates and sighed with a smile - all of them looked exhausted already. They were all dressed very casually - Kai in black pants and hip length grey blazer. Reita in black cargos, black leather jacket and black Fedora hat. Aoi just had simple grey jeans and a think black knitted hoodie. Uruha had his bluish-grey jeans and his big thick white coat with the fur around the hood. Ruki had his favourites - black skinny jeans, his think waist length black jacket with hood and his black beanie ... basically what he wore to the café last week. All of them were also wearing their newly printed shirts for the 'Decomp' Tour. Ruki, Aoi and Uruha had their sunglasses on already even though the sun wasn't fully up yet.
"Well it seems we can make a move now. Ruki can you open the boot of your car so we can get these bags in? Then we'd better get going, it's a quarter past six now. We're late".
"Chill out, we won't be leaving until eight. First thing I'm worried about is getting some coffee and food".
Reita said as he watched Ruki walked around to the back of his car to open the boot. He let the door of the boot slowly rise before hoisting his bag into the corner of the compartment. While he then went to get into the driver's side, the others set their bags in the boot as well. Ruki reached behind and pulled his cell-phone from his back pocket to flip it open - it was still way too early to call Mika. She'd asked if he could call her that morning at eighty-thirty, then she'd be at work and away from her parents hearing range.
During the week Mika mentioned applying for a Uni course in Publicity - she had applied about a month ago but the results were today. Ruki was happy for her and hoping that she got the course, but hoped that it wouldn't prevent them from seeing each other. While Ruki was staring at his phone and thinking, he felt a numbed thud as the boot was closed. Soon after, he felt the car move as his band mates were now getting into the car ... you can guess who was in the front and back, I'm sure.
"Come on lets get moving! I'm starving!"
Aoi complained from the left side of the back seat as he fastened his seat belt. Kai, Reita and Uruha quickly did the same. Ruki snapped his cell phone shut, slipped it into his jacket pocket this time, and turned the ignition. Kai checked his watch again and then nestled into his seat, yawning widely - tiredness was starting to set in now and coffee sounded good. Ruki effortlessly backed out of the car space he was in and then turned towards the exit.
"I wish we could stop by Obaa-san's café for coffee. I've gotta go how long without any of her coffee?"
Reita whinged, slouching in his spot from the middle back seat. Uruha answered him.
"Three months".
"... Shut up".
Was all Reita said in his pouty mood. Kai smiled to himself, made a quick glance back at Reita and then looked again out to the road in front. Their big Tour hadn't started yet and already the guys were getting antsy ... it was definitely a sign they needed food and coffee - fast!
* * *
Barely five minutes later, Ruki was pulling up to the side gate beside their management building. A guard, at least fifty years of age, wearing a large heavy looking black jacket with 'Security' splashed across the back in big yellow letters came up to the drivers side door. He motioned for the driver to wind the window down and soon Ruki's face came into view behind the half open window. The guard looked surprised but them smiled.
"Hey you guys are early. Big day huh?"
"Yeah and there had better be lots of coffee inside".
The guard chuckled and he turned away to do something in his little hut beside the gate - it must have been to open it because the heavy iron bars started to move aside. Ruki saluted to the guard with two fingers and then drove forward towards the back car park. As Ruki slowly drove around to park at the back door, the guys could see things were actually going smoothly. Already there was a truck and a couple of vans ready to go - the truck, excluding the cabin, was about seven to eight meters long and was in the middle of being loaded with equipment. They noticed one of the vans had seats and the other didn't - so one was to transport the band and staff, while the other would carry smaller items like bags, make-up cases, etc.
Once Ruki's car was parked, all of them marvelled at the loading vehicles as they got out. Reita walked straight over to the back of the truck to look inside.
"Hoooollyyy fuck! You know it doesn't matter how many times we Tour, I'll never get over how much friggen crap we take with us".
All the while Reita spoke his words echoed through the truck and actually startled the people who were loading it. Then Uruha and Aoi came up beside him and stared open-mouthed at the equipment - Kai's drums were in pieces and very carefully packed. Aoi and Uruha's numerous guitars were stored away in crates, as well as Reita's numerous bass's. The crates were bolted tightly against the walls of the truck. Then everything else was sound equipment, specialised amps for the guitars and bass, and computerised Metronomes for Kai, tuning extension tables for Aoi and Uruha ... the list went on. While they were watching the packing, Kai and Ruki came up behind them to have a quick look.
"Lets go inside to leave the packing to those who know what they're doing, ne? Besides, didn't you guys want coffee and food? We don't eat now, we'll have to wait until we get to our first stop".
Kai warned them as he turned towards the backdoor of the building. Soon he felt a breeze as Aoi, Reita and Uruha rushed past him and Ruki to get to the door first. Luckily, being a double door, there was no jamming in the doorframe as the three of them went through at the same time. Kai looked at Ruki when they got to the door and they both opened it together as well.
"When are you going to call Mika-chan? It's around six-thirty now, would she be awake yet?"
"No, she asked if I could call when she got to work. Just so her parents can't hear us talking, cause they don't know we're seeing each other yet".
"Is she going to tell them?"
Ruki laughed and pushed his glasses further up his nose when he heard how concerned Kai sounded. After walking the two meter length of short hallway from the door, Kai and Ruki came into what looked like the 'lunch-room' - just an average sized room with round tables, chairs around them, a buffet table against the opposite wall and it was full of steaming food. Noodles, fried vegetables, different soups, small cakes ... and beside the buffet was a table that had a coffee machine and tins of tea on it. No one else was in the room except the five guys ... and Aoi, Reita and Uruha were already seated with a mountain of food on their plates. Ruki then looked at Kai once he was finishing staring at his band mates eating habits.
"Yeah we agreed she'd tell them when I got back from Touring. We don't think they'd like the idea of me taking off for a Tour when we've just got together ... you know ..."
Kai nodded with a smile - he wasn't surprised if Mika was a little afraid to tell her parents about Ruki ... after all, it's not every day a girl goes home and says she's dating a Rock-star. Then both of them weaved around the tables to approach the buffet and get something to eat. After taking a small portion from each tray, Kai took their plates back to the group's table while Ruki made them some coffee. Kai had to smile as he set the plates down - Aoi, Reita and Uruha were eating so much, you'd think they'd never been fed. Uruha noticed Kai smiling to himself when he sat down.
"What are you smirking at? We're hungry".
"Nothing, it just never gets boring watching you three eat".
"Well we burn up a lot of energy performing. But we haven't even done our first performance and I'm already starving".
Aoi said with a mouth half full of food. Then he swallowed before going back to shovelling bundles of noodles into his mouth with his chopsticks. Then Ruki finally made it to the table with his and Kai's coffee, large size. Before Ruki started eating he set his cell phone on the table so he could keep an eye on the time for Mika ... even though it was still only a quarter to seven. Reita noticed the phone being set down and looked at Ruki.
"Anxious, are we?"
"Yeah, I have to call Mika at eighty-thirty when she's at work so her parents don't hear us having phone sex".
"Ruki!"
Kai barked, giving the singer a sharp look and a kick in the ankle. Ruki looked at Kai as if to say 'It was only a joke'. Either side of Reita, Aoi and Uruha were trying not to laugh as the bass player blinked and wondered where that came from. Finally he couldn't not laugh and did just that - how Ruki had managed to say something like that with a straight face just goes to show how good at acting he was. Kai wasn't as amused as the others, but Ruki was now smiling himself while he pushed his food around the plate with a fork. Then an aged man about mid fifties with thin black hair and square glasses came into the lunchroom - he was wearing black suit pants, a white business shirt and a black long tie.
"Ohayou, I see all of you are here and ready to go. You'd better eat up big because you'll be on the move all day. Everyone has nearly finished packing the truck so now all we need are you five".
"Ohayou, yourself, sir. You look exceptionally chipper today ... would it have anything to do with us being gone for three months?"
Reita asked their manager, who was grinning from ear-to-ear like he'd just won the lottery. The man chuckled heartily and pushed his hands into his pockets.
"No of course not ... in fact, I'm dreading you leaving. I'll be spending the next two months preparing from your new single coming out - bloody commercials, advertisements in stores and interviews. Then after that another month of finalising your big Finale ... what you bastards put me through is just murder".
"Aww we love you too, sir".
Aoi said with a half amused, half forced grin to their manager. The man raised his eyebrows and made a short 'Hmm' sound before turning and sauntering out of the room - he was having a joke with the guys but they did appreciate what he did for them. While they were away, the single release was being controlled by him so all the guys had to worry about was mentioning it to the fans during their Tour. So with that they went back to finishing their much needed breakfast and coffee. The next chance they'd get to have a decent meal would probably be after their first performance that evening.
* * *
Meanwhile across town, Mika was just waking up to get ready for work. She sat up in her bed and turned her bedside lamp on, then just sitting up to give herself time for her eyes to adjust. While she did that Mika just lazily looked around her room. It was a typical girls room - she had a regular single bed on a frame instead of a futon on the floor, a white bedside table and a modern looking lamp with bead trimming along the bottom of the lampshade. The wall at the end of her bed held the in-built cupboard with mirrors for the doors. Across from the bed was her desk, where a set of shelves held her books and little nick-knacks. Her laptop sat in the middle of the desk - she'd stuck heaps of small pictures of Ruki all of the cover years ago. Now she felt a bit embarrassed about it seeing she was now his girlfriend ... hard to believe, really. Also she had a little TV perched on top of the desk in the left corner beside the little shelves. To finish off the room, a fluffy pink rug with black zebra stripes adorned the floor. Despite the fact Mika liked to dress more punk rock, her room was surprisingly girly.
As Mika was about to get out of her bed, a knock came from her door.
"Mika ... are you awake?"
It was her mother.
"Haaai ... I'm just getting up now. I will get dressed and come down to breakfast".
"Okay sweetie. And hurry, something just arrived for you".
Mika stood up and went to walk to the cupboard when she paused - something arrived for her? To be honest the first thing she thought of was 'Has Ruki sent me something?" but she quickly dismissed it. For starters, he didn't know her address and secondly, they promised to keep the relationship a secret until he got back. So with that last thought Mika went about picking her clothes for the day - black knee-high boots, black knee-length full-circled skirt, white long sleeve blouse, a figure-hugging red knitted vest and a black hip-length coat to go over that. The snow was really staring to fall now, so it was warm clothes all the way.
* * *
Once Mika was finished getting dressed and had brushed her hair into a neat ponytail with a few strands still framing her face, she quickly walked down the stairs with boots and shoulder bag in hand. At the bottom she gripped the railing tightly and as she made a sharp turn to the right, carefully threw her boots and bag near the door for when she was ready to leave, then walked past the stairs and into the kitchen. Her father was sitting at the table, hidden by the newspaper as he was reading it. Her mother was at the bench making scrambled eggs. When her mother heard Mika enter the kitchen, she turned around and smiled. Mika and her mother looked exactly alike - they were the same height, only her mother didn't have red streaks through her hair. She could have easily passed for Mika's older sister. She was wearing a knee length white dress with a pattern of sunflowers along the hem and V-neck collar, with her shoulder length hair pulled back into a low ponytail.
"Ohayou, Mika. Sit down and eat, then you can see what came in the mail for you".
"What is it that it's arrived this early in the morning?"
Mika asked as her mother set the plate of scrambled eggs in front of her. Mika's fathered lowered the paper and took his mug of coffee - he was a very handsome man at five-foot-seven. His thick black hair was slicked back with oil and he wore a very smart black suit, though the tie wasn't done yet and just loosely hung around his neck.
"Well for it to arrive at six-thirty in the bloody morning, it had better be important".
Mika's father said gruffly before taking a mouthful of coffee and hiding behind his paper again. Mika's mother slapped her husband's shoulder.
"Jin, don't be so mean. Since your being such a grump this morning, you can give the letter to Mika".
Mika looked confused from her mother to her father ... or at least the paper he was hiding behind. Finally there was a little sigh as Jin dropped his paper and held an envelope out to her across the table. Mika hesitantly reached to take it, bowing her head in thanks to her father before looking at the front. It had 'The University of Tokyo' logo printed in the top right hand corner. Mika make a short squealing sound and dropped the envelope. Her father scrunched up his face at the sound and took another sip of his coffee. Her mother giggled and sat down beside her husband.
"Well go on and open it. I want to see if my baby is a Uni student".
Mika laughed nervously and shakily took the envelope again, turning it so she could rip open the top. Her parents watched as she pulled the letter out and started reading. Jin just sat calmly but Rina, her mother, was anxious watching her daughters face for it to either turn excited or crushed. Jin set his mug down again and went back to reading his paper.
"I don't know why she has to take 'Publicity' as a subject. There's enough of that as it is".
Suddenly Mika 'Woo Hoo'ed at the top of her lungs, throwing the letter up into the air and stamping her feet widely. Both of her parents jumped at the sound.
"Oh my god, they've accepted me! I'm going to take 'Publication & Journalism' next year!"
Rina and Mika jumped up from the table to hug each other fiercely, while also jumping up and down. Jin just rolled his eyes and went back to reading. Then he felt a weight on his back as Mika ran over to give her father a big hug as well.
"Aww I love you, Chichi! Just wait, I'll be the best Publicist Japan has ever seen!"
"Hmm well you can start with telling Japan about how useless it's Stock exchange is. These figures are damn ridiculous. Rina can I have another coffee please?"
Mika laughed and let her father go so she could go back around to sit and finish her breakfast. While Rina poured another coffee for Jin, Mika grinned widely and forked some eggs into her mouth.
"Actually ... I want to be involved with the music scene. There's some awesome bands showing up recently and it'd be great to tell people about them".
Jin and Rina stopped what they were doing and stared at their daughters grinning face - what scared them the most was she looked very serious even though she was still on a high from finding out her results. Jin was the bass player in a band himself back when he was nineteen, which was how he met Rina because she met him at one of the Live houses. Long story short they fell in love, Jin stopped playing music and got into the Stock Exchange while Rina started work at the local flower shop. The last thing they expected was for their daughter to get involved with the music scene in anyway ... next thing they know she'll come home and introduce them to her Rock-star boyfriend. Jin cleared his throat and stared at Mika over his newly filled coffee mug.
"Well, we can't stop you from doing that but no coming home and introducing us to some would-be musician with no future and say he's your boyfriend".
"Jin!"
"Well I don't want some looser dragging my daughter down from a fruitful career. If she wants to be in Publicity, then fine, but no dead-beats".
Rina looked apologetically at Mika, but Mika smiled and shook her head - she was used to it. Though she had to give her father credit for that because he'd managed to save her from bad relationships ... and send her into a much better one. Of course she wouldn't date 'dead-beats' as her father called them, because she was smart enough to know who they were. But there was only one loophole to her father's request about dating a musician - Ruki wasn't a 'would-be' ... he is a musician, and with a very successful future to boot. Mika wasn't scared anymore because she couldn't wait to see the look on her father's face when Ruki tells him he's in a Major label band with already five years of success under his belt. And with rapidly growing popularity ... they were only going to get bigger.
* * *
By seven thirty Mika was finished with her breakfast, during which she'd talked about how much she was looking forward to next year. Her parents, mainly Rina, were trying to keep an open mind about Mika wanted to tell people about the new bands showing up. They especially went silent when Mika hinted at wanting to cover mostly the Visual Kei side of music. Rina and Jin looked nervously at each other - they of course knew what Visual Kei was since it was the only style of music/fashion Mika liked. They tried not to notice the numerous posters of costume-clad bands up on Mika's walls ... mostly of one particular band that Jin kept calling 'the Gazer' or 'Casette' because he was just not interested.
"Well sweetie ... if your really interested in focusing on this 'Visual Kei' thing, just please be careful. You don't know what these people could be like".
Rina urged her daughter to be wary as she took Mika's empty plate and set it into the sink full of hot soapy water. Mika had to smile to herself when her mother warned her - yes some bands may look like they're trouble behind closed doors but it's not like she'd be on her own. She'd be working with other people as well and when it came to interviewing bands, it wouldn't be when they were in the middle of a performance. Jin cleared his throat again and folded his paper up since he was finished.
"As your mother says, just be careful, focus on what your doing, and no looser boyfriends".
On that last comment Jin pointed at her and raised his eyebrows before going to finish the last of his breakfast. Mika giggled to herself and stood up to give her father a kiss on the cheek, then jumping over to her mother to give her a big hug again.
"I'll see you when I get home from work".
Mika said cheerfully and waved to her parents as she ran out of the kitchen, also receiving a wave from them. Mika skidded to a halt at the door and quickly slipped her feet into her boots, pulling up the inside zip. Once finished Mika grabbed her shoulder bag from the floor and pulled her car keys from the small front pocket as she went out the door. After shutting the door and walking briskly to her little silver Mazda Demio that Jin had bought for her 21st birthday, she jumped from one foot to the other because it was so cold while trying to unlock the door. Once in her seat, Mika turned the ignition to get the heater going and to warm the car up before leaving.
Back inside, Jin and Rina had left the kitchen and approached the front door to hide while watching their daughter make ready to leave for work. Rina stood behind her husband and rubbed his arm firmly.
"Honey, she'll be okay. It's the modern world; things have changed since we were Mika's age. I don't think she'd stray from what she really wants to do with her career".
"She's turning out exactly like us ... I can see it coming, she'll meet someone in the music industry and then that'll be it. Look at you, you wanted to be a painter but because of me getting you pregnant, you had to stop ... I'm only trying to protect Mika from loosing her career".
"Jin, my wanting to be a painter changed when I found I was pregnant with Mika. I'm happy working at the flower shop because if I were a painter, I'd probably be famous and have no time for both of you. Just please trust Mika ... let her make the decisions while we just guide her".
Jin nodded softly and gripped Rina's hand on his arm firmly as they now watched Mika slowly pulling out of the driveway. That's something Mika's father was most afraid of ... that she would be happy and going smoothly with her Publications career and then for her to meet a rock-star. She could accidentally fall pregnant and then either the guy would leave, not be able to support her or she'd loose her job. Jin had blamed himself when Rina stopped painting but he never left her alone ... but he'd heard about so many couples split up when a baby was involved and it scared him to think that could happen to Mika. Hence why he stressed the no intimate involvement with guys before marriage - "That way, if anything does happen when a baby is involved and your married, he's more than half responsible", Jin always said with an evil tone to his voice. Rina just thought her husband was barking crazy whenever he said that and told him he just had a negative outlook on modern society, before telling Mika to ignore his last remark. Finally Rina pat her husband's arm and he looked at her.
"Come on you'll be late for work. You'll get stuck in traffic if you don't leave now".
"Right ..."
Jin said as he slipped into his shinny black shoes and took his briefcase from the corner near the door. As he turned to give Rina a kiss goodbye, Rina returned it and then looked seriously at him.
"And no more negative thoughts about Mika and her choice of boyfriends. If she wants to date someone within the music industry, I'm sure she'd pick a nice handsome and successful one".
"Oh yeah? He's not successful until he passes my test".
Rina sighed and shook her head as Jin spun around and left the front door - she didn't know what to do about Jin's attitude towards Mika dating ... because if Jin had his way, Mika would remain a celibate all her life. But Rina had so far managed to give Mika's previous boyfriends a chance until finally Jin convinced Mika they weren't good enough. Secretly Rina hoped one day that her daughter would really ignore her father's repeated put-downs of her boyfriends, because then he might actually grow-up and let Mika decide for herself.

NOTES:
1) Leaving the apartment: I'm really not sure how the boys would go about leaving for their big Tour's so I just imagined what it might be like
2) 'Tour of Gazette's Apartments': I doubt they'd have someone delivering their bags around to they're places but in my story it saves them time lol
3) University of Tokyo: You may remember a while ago Mika wanted to be in 'Publicity' but I don't know if this Uni does teach 'Publications' ... lets just say it does
4) Packing vehicles: As most Gazette fans probably know by now, they've actually got huge trucks now with their image printed on the sides (you'll certainly know when they're coming) so this is leading up to it
5) Eating habits: I could imagine the boys being like this between each performance. With using up so much energy on the stage, I can see them eating mountains of food to keep their strength up lol
6) Gazette's manager: I don't think this guy would actually do all of the work with CD releases because then we'd never see the guys, but just this once lets say he does
7) Hayashi Jin: Mika's father is pretty strict when it comes to Mika dating but for good reason ...
8) Chichi: This is another term for 'daddy', apart from 'Otou-san'
