It hasn't been a week :) Bad news though, this is the end of the story. I don't have any more ideas for the story at the moment, and I like where it ends. I hope you guys like it too. I do want to take a moment and say thanks to kindlyunspoken, violence, greens, sugar, classic06, between.the.lines and storyteller999 for commenting. Writing a Kelly/Carrie pairing is new for me, and all of your comments mean a lot because you guys love KC so much, so I'm glad you liked her character/the story.
Ch 3 pt 2
Kelly walked to the back of the shop and changed out the CD that her coworker had setup to play. She was tired of hearing Tori Amos on repeat. She hadn’t talked to Carrie since their fight, and the blonde hadn’t called her, so she couldn’t listen to one more song about pain. Kelly looked through the stacks of music they kept to play over the loudspeakers until she found the group she had wanted to hear for the past few days. Kelly briefly smiled when she heard her coworker yell out happily, she knew he was probably playing air guitar and trying to sing the words to the song.
If she were in a better mood she would join Jim in his antics, she would have jumped around and sang the song as loudly as she could; that was the fun thing about not being a part of a music chain. They could play whatever music they wanted, as loud as they wanted, and their customers wouldn’t find it weird if they sang the songs. Kelly frowned as Jim jumped over the counter while playing his air guitar. At least there wasn’t anyone in the store to see her coworker. Kelly started to walk down the aisles and check to see that the discs were in the right spots.
Kelly listened to the music and thought about Carrie as she worked. She was still a little angry with the blonde, and she knew Carrie felt the same way because she hadn’t heard from the other girl in three days. She didn’t want to be the first person to apologize, and for her stubbornness she was stuck listening to one of Carrie’s favorite albums. Kelly smiled sadly because she knew if Carrie were around the younger girl would be rocking out to the music just like Jim.
She made her way back to the register and started to sing along to the music. Carrie had played the CD enough times for Kelly to memorize the words long ago. Kelly still had a couple hours left of her shift; and an hour or so after that, the band would practice. She could kill a little time playing around with Jim. She danced and loudly sang the lyrics to the songs as Jim twirled around and tried to give fierce guitar stances while playing his air guitar.
”Oh, johnny johnny!”
Kelly giggled at Jim’s exclamation. The line was Jim’s favorite, and practically the only words that he knew, from any of the group’s songs. She always laughed when her dowdy coworker shouted the line, and he always laughed at the way she ended up dancing.
”The song you are quoting is actually from one of the tracks off The Clash’s first album.”
Kelly sighed and turned to face the man that had spoken. She struggled not to roll her eyes when she saw that it was Mr. Pompous. “We know that, Dan.” Kelly sat down on a stool and leaned against the counter. Dan came in often, and most times he just wanted to impress them with his knowledge of music.
Jim sat down next to Kelly and drummed his fingers on the counter. “Why couldn’t it have been your blonde chick?” He muttered quietly as Dan walked over and leaned against the counter. He snickered when Kelly sat up straight to put some distance between herself and Dan. “What you need, man?”
Kelly pretended to listen as Dan talked about the CD they were listening to, but her thoughts were focused on Carrie thanks to her coworker’s comment. She wished the blonde was around. She was sure that Carrie could shut Dan up when it came to music knowledge, and Carrie would have been much more fun to watch dance than Jim. She missed Carrie.
Kelly couldn’t help but stare at the clock as Dan went on and on about one of Carrie’s favorite bands, it wasn’t even that she missed Carrie after awhile, it was that Dan was wrong about half the stuff that came out of his mouth. She sighed when the CD finished playing and Jim ran off to get away from the customer. “Name the original members of The Clash.” Normally, Kelly would have let Dan talk until he finished, but she didn’t want to deal with the guy.
"Strummer, Jones, Simonon and Chimes.”
The smug look on Dan’s face was irritating, and Kelly seriously had to stop herself from leaning back when the man checked her out. “You forgot Keith Levene.”
Jim came back to the register when he saw that Dan was startled by something Kelly had said. It was rare for Kelly to lose her temper. He started to chuckle though when he heard Dan trying to argue about members of The Clash. “Dude, I wouldn’t argue with her, her girlfriend loves them. If Kelly says something about them, it’s right.” He didn’t even know what exactly had Dan so blustered, but he liked that the guy wasn’t blathering arrogantly any longer.
Kelly bit her lip so that she didn’t grin at Jim’s comment, although she did get up from her seat. “Will you be okay if I leave early?”
Jim had to look at Kelly because he could see Dan just staring at them out of the corner of his eye. “Sure, but could you wait a few minutes?” He tilted his head in Dan’s direction. Jim didn’t want to be left alone with the other guy.
"Sorry.” Kelly remorsefully smiled at Jim. “I’ve got to go see my favorite drummer.” As she walked to the back to gather her belongings, Kelly could hear Dan ask Jim whom she was leaving to see, which made her and her coworker laugh. Kelly knew she had issues, but not being around Carrie wasn’t worth it to her at the moment. She hoped Carrie would want to talk when she got to the blonde’s apartment.

Carrie laughed as she threw her cards down on the living room table. “Don’t touch the cards while I’m gone. I’m shuffling this time.”
Robbie chuckled and gathered the cards as Carrie took her glass and left the room. “I can’t help it that I’m having a good run of luck.” He had come over to Carrie’s place to talk to her, and now they were playing cards before everyone showed up for practice.
"No one wins that many hands with luck alone.” Carrie wasn’t the best poker player, but she was having fun. She poured herself another drink and then walked back to the living room so that they could begin another game. She missed hanging out with Kelly, but she was happy that Robbie had been around the past few days since it kept her mind off of her problems with their lead singer.
Robbie shuffled the deck as Carrie sat back down. “I told you math isn’t the key to this game.” He laughed when Carrie arched an eyebrow at him.
Carrie placed her drink on the table and waited for Robbie to deal. “Just because I know the probability of a card being played doesn’t mean that I rely on mathematics.” Carrie picked up her cards as Robbie dealt for each of them. So maybe she was relying on math, but it hadn’t hurt her. She still had most of the candy they had decided to use as betting chips.
Robbie chuckled again as Carrie picked up a piece of the candy. He looked at his cards, and then set them down as he waited for Carrie to decide whether she wanted to play her cards. He was glad that he had decided to come over before practice because now he didn’t feel as nervous as he had before. “You gonna play?”
Carrie ate the piece of candy she had picked up, and then grabbed a couple more to put in the ‘pot’. “Are you?” She smirked and put her cards facedown on the table as Robbie tried to figure out what kind of hand she had. Before the guitarist could joke, there was a knock on the door. “Don’t peek.” Carrie playful gave Robbie a stern look before she got up to answer the door.
"Not a problem.” Robbie laughed as he put his cards in the deck. He knew Carrie had some kind of pair; she only ate the candy when she was confident that she was going to win a hand.
Carrie opened the door once she had unlocked it, however she didn’t speak right away when she saw that it was Kelly on her doorstep. She had hoped that Kelly would arrive before everyone, although she knew they couldn’t talk now because of Robbie. “Hey.” She moved out of Kelly’s way when the brunette walked into her apartment. “I didn’t think you were going to come over.”
Kelly waited to talk until Carrie had shut the door. She spent the moment looking the blonde over. She didn’t know what the hell had been wrong with her when she had walked off during their fight. “I missed you.” Kelly took a step towards Carrie, to hug the younger girl, but Carrie backed away from her. “Come on, Care.”
Carrie spoke quietly since she could see Robbie looking in their direction. “Robbie’s here. Give me a second to-" Carrie didn’t bother to finish her sentence because Kelly had already taken a huge step away from her and turned to look for Robbie.
Robbie stared down at the table when Kelly spotted him. “Hey, Kelly.” He had a feeling that the game was officially over. He started to clean up the mess as he avoided looking in the direction of the door.
Kelly remotely called out a greeting to Robbie, but she wasn’t happy to see their friend. She glanced at Carrie, and then headed for the bedroom. She didn’t know why Robbie wouldn’t look at her. She muttered quietly to herself once she reached the hallway. “I can’t believe she told him.” Kelly sighed when she heard footsteps behind her. Just when she was past their fight, Carrie had to go and do something dumb like tell Robbie about them.
Carrie had told Robbie that they would be right back before she had hurried after Kelly. She shut the door to her bedroom and leaned against it as Kelly paced around her room. She had hoped Kelly was early because the other girl wanted to make up, but now she wasn’t so sure. “I missed you too.” She pushed herself off the door and walked over to Kelly when the shorter girl quit pacing. “I wanted to give you space, but I’ve missed you so much, Kel.”
Kelly stared at Carrie as she tried to figure out if she was angry or happy now that she was at Carrie’s apartment. She had felt bad for the way she had treated Carrie, though her anger was back because she thought Carrie had told Robbie. Maybe it was her fault though; she had been the one to run away. “You know I missed you. Mr. Pompous came in and all I could think about was you.”
Carrie smiled at the comment and hugged Kelly loosely. “Yeah?” Her smile changed to a grin when Kelly nodded. “I’m sorry we fought. I know you were upset about the things you remembered. It just felt like you were using it as an excuse to be mad at me and push me away. I didn’t lie and I didn’t push you, but I could have told you the truth. I’m sorry.”
Kelly swallowed nervously as she brought her arms up and held onto Carrie. She was relieved to hear that Carrie wasn’t angry with her, that they were both over the fight. “I’m sorry too, but what’s Robbie doing here? Did you tell him about us?” Kelly didn’t know what to think when Carrie looked away from her gaze. “Say you didn’t tell him.”
Carrie tried to think of a good excuse, but she wasn’t a very good liar, and she didn’t want to lie to Kelly. “I didn’t tell him anything. He just came over to hang out. Did you know he was so good at poker?” Carrie wasn’t surprised when Kelly pulled away from her. “Kelly, I didn’t tell him anything about us. Can we go back to talking about our problems?”
Kelly knew Carrie was lying, and she wasn’t going to talk about them if Carrie was forcing it so that their friends’ reactions weren’t an issue. “The you lying thing? Yeah, let’s talk about that. How about the lie you told just now? Why are you doing this? It wasn’t enough that you lied about how far we went, Underwood?”
Carrie sighed at the abrupt change in Kelly’s tone and the use of her last name. “I don’t need this. I told you I was sorry. I had a split second to make the decision that morning, and what I told you wasn’t a lie.” Carrie backed away when Kelly just stared at her. “I’m going back out to the living room because Robbie doesn’t know.” She gave Kelly a pointed look before she turned around and left.
****
Kelly rolled her eyes as she faced forward and tightened her grip on the mic. She sang the lyrics louder and tried to ignore the fact that Carrie was staring at her. She wanted to turn around and sing the angry lyrics right at Carrie, but she held back. The time before practice had been strained at best because of all the silence on her, Robbie and Carrie’s parts. Add in that Carrie had ignored her since their conversation in the bedroom, and Kelly’s anger had steadily continued to grow since the first time she had caught the blonde looking at her.
Carrie shook her head as she tapped out the beat on her snare and worked the bass. Every time she looked at Kelly, the other girl was staring. The hurt looks made her want to take Kelly to another room so that they could work their issues out, but of course each time she made eye contact with Kelly, the brunette turned away. Kelly was frustrating, but Kelly was her girl, so she would get through practice for both of their sakes before she put an end to their fight. Carrie could never be upset with Kelly for too long.
Kelly silently listened to the music and subconsciously bopped her head to Carrie’s beat during Robbie’s solo. She turned and looked at Carrie before she could stop herself. Sometimes she hated that Carrie looked so hot playing the drums. Kelly stared as the rest of the band started playing again, and at the last second she grabbed her mic and started to sing the lyrics once more. She momentarily lost herself in Carrie’s playing as they reached the crescendo of the song.
Carrie stared back at Kelly as she kept the beat with the bass pedal. If they weren’t in the middle of a fight she would have found a reason to drag Kelly away from everyone, the brunette sounded good, it always got her when Kelly held out high notes. Carrie didn’t look away as she started in on the ending to the song. She easily switched between the snare, toms and her crash cymbal while Kelly repeated the refrain of the song. She smirked when Kelly messed up a couple words.
Kelly briefly glanced around to see if anyone else had noticed her slip before she looked back to see Carrie do some very complicated looking drumming while staring at her. She held her last note for as long as she could when she saw the desire in Carrie’s eyes. She had to mentally remind herself that they weren’t alone when Carrie let loose on the drums. Kelly didn’t notice when the rest of the band quit playing, she just continued to stare at Carrie. She wanted to curse Carrie for being sexy when she was pissed at the other girl. Although she was mildly comforted by the fact that she knew Carrie felt the same.
Carrie held onto her drumsticks tightly as she waited for Kelly to look away. She wasn’t going to back down, just like she hadn’t backed down during their fights. If it were anyone but Kelly, she would have gotten away from a girl who couldn’t stop picking fights. She mouthed that she didn’t lie to Kelly, and in return she got a smartass grin. Carrie dropped her drumsticks and stood. She ignored the sound of a telephone ringing as she tried to decide if she wanted to drag Kelly off to kiss the other girl or continue their fight. She still hadn’t made a decision when Robbie broke the stare off between her and Kelly by stepping into her line of vision.
Kelly put her mic back in the mic stand and glared at the ground as Robbie gave some excuse about needing to leave because of the phone call, but she knew the truth. He didn’t know what to do any longer because of her relationship with Carrie. Kelly walked towards Carrie, angry that the band was being effected already, and glared at the blonde once she was at the edge of Carrie’s drum set. “You had to say something, didn’t you?”
Carrie frowned as Robbie grabbed his stuff while Emily and Mike stood by confused. “This is not the time.” She looked at Kelly so that the brunette would drop the issue. She was concerned with Robbie’s quick mood change, though he was out of the apartment before she could get past Emily’s bass to ask her friend about the call. Carrie ran a hand through her hair and looked at Kelly. “Let’s just end practice?” It was the only solution she could come up with to satisfy everyone. Emily and Mike would want to talk about why Robbie left, and Kelly was still angry.
Kelly shook her head as Mike and Emily started to pack their stuff and talk about how weird it was that Robbie had left so fast. “You want to know what’s wrong with Robbie?” Kelly was tired of the fighting, and she couldn’t take one more second of waiting for the fallout from her decision to be with Carrie. If Carrie wanted the rest of the band to know, she would tell them. “I’ll tell you what’s wrong, Carrie and I-"
Carrie interrupted before Kelly could finish. “Kelly and I got into a small argument about our favorite bands.” She grabbed Kelly by the hand and pulled the brunette towards the hallway. “You guys can leave your gear if you want, just lock the door on your way out.” Carrie gently, but firmly, pushed Kelly down the hallway. She didn’t say a word until they were in her bedroom and she had shut the door. She stared at Kelly as she tried to process what had happened in the living room. “You’re lucky I love you so much, Clarkson. What were you thinking?”
Kelly disbelievingly stared at Carrie. “What was I thinking? You told Robbie! I was just doing what you wanted. You’re the one who stopped me from telling them that you’re my girlfriend. What kind of lame lie was that anyway? We got into a fight over a band?” Kelly was so confused by Carrie’s behavior, she didn’t know what was going on with them at the moment.
"I didn’t tell Robbie!” Carrie grabbed Kelly’s hands and moved so that Kelly had to look at her. “I didn’t say anything to him about us or our fight. He was here because he hooked up with his ex that night we all got drunk. He needed advice but didn’t want to tell you guys because you all hate the girl so much.” She hoped Kelly would let their stupid fight go now that the brunette knew the truth.
"What?” Kelly was beyond shocked at the news. “I almost told them because you lied to me about Robbie’s ex?” Kelly freed one of her hands and smacked Carrie’s shoulder. “Do you know how much I was-" She froze when Carrie kissed her and pulled her into an embrace, but after a moment she returned the hold. Kelly didn’t hold back as Carrie kissed her. Her passion matched Carrie’s in each consuming kiss until she couldn’t breathe. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have jumped to any conclusions, but you’re a horrible liar and I was scared that Robbie wasn’t talking to me because you had told him. I’m so sorry, Care.”
Carrie licked her lips as she slipped her hands down to Kelly hips. She wished she had thought of kissing the singer during their first fight, Kelly always reacted ardently to her when she took some initiative. “Me too. He made me promise though, and I wanted to tell you when you got upset before practice, but I didn’t want to go back on my promise to him.” Carrie rubbed her hands along Kelly’s hips. She was tempted to forget that they needed to talk, so she could go back to kissing Kelly, but she controlled herself. “What’s with you guys and not wanting to tell each other about the people you’re dating?”
Kelly sighed at the joke and tightened her grip on Carrie. “I was such a jerk, and worse a coward.” She looked down at Carrie’s necklace because she should have trusted Carrie instead of starting another fight. She knew she had over reacted, but she was relieved that Carrie wasn’t angry with her. “I’m so sorry I didn’t believe you when you said you hadn’t told him. I just… I don’t know what I would do without them or the band. I’ve known them for so long, but I shouldn’t have acted like a jerk to you. I really hope you can forgive me.”
Carrie brought one of her hands up to Kelly’s chin and made the shorter girl look up at her. “Only if you’re not mad at me for not telling you stuff when I should have spoken up. Can we please move past this? I didn’t want our relationship to start out like this."
Kelly cut Carrie off with a kiss. “I heard what you said before. You were doing what you thought I wanted, even though it hurt you.” Regardless of her own less than loving actions, Carrie had stopped her from telling the other members about them, even though Carrie hadn’t wanted to keep their relationship a secret. Kelly hated that she had upset Carrie because of her own insecurities. She brought her hands up to Carrie’s shoulders as she looked into the blonde’s eyes. “Maybe you can tell me the rest of what we did, later tonight?”
Carrie smiled at Kelly’s teasing tone. She could tell that Kelly was sorry, so she stepped in closer and grinned. “Promise me no more getting drunk, so that we don’t ever have to go through this again.” Carrie pulled Kelly completely against her when the singer laughed and agreed.
****
Kelly played with her glass as she tried not to look at Carrie. They had finished their set about an hour ago, although they hadn’t been able to relax right away because Robbie’s ex had been in the audience. Kelly sighed and moved her free hand under the table. She tried to watch Carrie without being obvious as she grabbed the blonde’s hand and held it steadfastly.
Carrie picked her drink up and quickly took a sip of it before anyone could see her grin. They were all talking about Rachel, Robbie’s ex, and the scene she had caused after the gig. She laughed as Emily got onto Mike for asking if the night with Rachel had been worth all the craziness. “I wouldn’t answer that if I were you, Robbie. The girls at this table might hurt you.”
Kelly leaned close to Carrie and spoke as quietly as she could without being drowned out by the music. “You got somewhat lucky last Friday. Was it worth it, Care?” Kelly giggled when Carrie gave her a look for the comment.
Carrie ignored the conversation going on around Kelly and herself. She tilted her head towards Kelly and grinned. “Be careful, Kel, or the band might get a demonstration of just what I got.” She laughed softly when Kelly’s hand slipped from her hand to her waist. Carrie wanted to put her arm around Kelly or something, but she contented herself with staring at the brunette.
"You wish.” Kelly pulled back a little, though Carrie’s cocky grin made her lean back in and kiss the blonde’s cheek. “Stop it.” She didn’t care if her girlfriend teased her about the band. She just couldn’t be held responsible for her actions if Carrie continued to act so confident about them. Kelly had to bite her lip so that she didn’t laugh because of the way Carrie was staring at her.
Carrie stopped kidding around and let her hand rest on Kelly’s arm that was around her waist. “It was worth it.” Carrie knew Kelly would get what she meant, although the rest of the band wouldn’t understand. She tried to keep herself from returning Kelly’s unwavering gaze by running her thumb against Kelly skin. She automatically grinned when Kelly shyly smiled and kissed her.
Robbie took a gulp of his drink when he saw some guy staring at their table. After the way the club goers had stared earlier because of the scene with his ex, he couldn’t stop looking around every few minutes, though this time he noticed that the stare wasn’t directed at him. He looked to his left and saw Kelly and Carrie kissing. Robbie laughed and wondered how long it would take Mike and Emily to notice. He had known something was going on with the pair for a few months.
Kelly leaned away from Carrie when she realized that the conversation around them had been replaced by laughter. She blushed when she saw that Mike was staring at them. Kelly lightly smacked Carrie’s thigh, even though it had been her who had kissed the blonde. “What part of ‘stop it’, don’t you get?” She was scared that no one was speaking, so she held onto Carrie hands and tried not to panic.
Emily laughed with Mike, though she stopped when Carrie looked worriedly at Kelly. “I thought you two would have hooked up last weekend because of the way you were all over each other when we left.” She turned to Robbie and smirked. “See? How hard is it to find someone new? No more Rachel.”
Kelly stared at her friends, unable to believe that was the reaction to the sight of her and Carrie kissing. She picked up her drink and took a few sips as she tried to process that no one was upset or worried about the band. “Y’all aren’t going to change your minds tomorrow morning after the alcohol’s out of your systems, are you?”
Carrie laughed at Kelly’s question, and then she put her arm around the brunette’s shoulder. “No one’s drunk, Kel.” She smiled at their friends, and that their apparent relationship was a non-factor to the band, before she leaned in close to Kelly and kissed the older girl’s cheek. “I don’t think we were as secretive with all of the looks as we thought.”
