Disclaimer: This is purely a work of fiction. I do not know Kelly Clarkson, and I am not profiting from this story. |
lol, let it be known, that i wrote these first few chapters a good while back, before kelly's new album came out so the 'i do not hook up' line in here was not intended to be a joke, although it totally turned out to be one, lol

Kelly sat patiently as Ashley rummaged through her suitcase for her, looking for a shirt.
"So, how you feeling, champ?"
"Good," Kelly laughed. "I only had one drink at the race. I was totally professional."
"More than I can say for some of your band."
"Ah, well, they're just having fun. Not often we get to all unwind together."
"True," she nodded.
"You're smiling again," Kelly pointed out.
"It's a crime to smile all of a sudden?"
"That smile? Yes," she teased. "Cause I never know what's going on in that crazy mind of yours when you have that smile."
"Ok, ok, no more smiling," Ashley sat up, holding out a shirt.
"Yes," Kelly approved, catching it as she tossed it to her.
"So, seriousness for a moment."
"Ok."
"Your new backup singers...do they know?"
"Know what?"
"You know what," Ashley laughed softly.
Kelly shrugged as she stood, "I'm going take a shower."
"You're gonna have to tell them if you plan on keeping them around," Ashley pointed out.
"I wasn't planning on not telling them."
"She's cute..."
"Ash..." Kelly warned. "You know how much I love how supportive you are, but I do not mix business with pleasure."
"Pleasure?" Ashley laughed. "Please. When's the last time you actually hooked up with someone?"
"I do not 'hook up'," Kelly rolled her eyes.
"Maybe you should."
"Ash..."
"What? I'm just saying. You haven't had a serious relationship since...ever. They last like what? Weeks if you're lucky? If your relationships are that meaningless, you should at least be getting sex out of them."
"I get sex out of them," Kelly frowned.
"It must not be very good sex if you dump them as soon as you can find a reason to."
"I'm still kinda new to this, you know."
"New?" Ashley raised her eyebrow. "It's been nearly two years."
"That's new."
"No, Kell, it's not. You're past the new stage. You should be in the having fun stage."
"How would you know?" Kelly crossed her arms.
"I looked it up," she shrugged.
Kelly laughed, "The sad thing is, I know you're not joking."
"Just looking out for my best friend."
"I'm doing perfectly fine on my own."
"Oh yea? How long it's been?" Ashley smiled.
"I'm not discussing my sex life with you right now, Ash."
"So, the new backup singer..."
"Ashley, no."
"What? I'm just saying she's cute."
Kelly sighed, shaking her head as she walked into the bathroom.

"We're late," Kelly pointed out.
"Well, if you wouldn't have taken so long in the shower," Ashley replied.
"I took fifteen minutes. You were the one in there for nearly an hour."
"Girl's gotta look good," Ashley shrugged as they cut across the parking lot. "Partying it up in North Carolina. Bring on the rednecks and cheap beer."
Kelly laughed, nudging her playfully as they walked into the bar, "I'm sure it's not bad."
"I spot a mullet," Ashley shook her head in horror.
"Are you sure this is the right place?" Kelly asked, looking around. "I thought Jay said he rented out a place just for us."
"Well, everybody's over there," she pointed to a huge curved booth in the back corner of the bar. "Come on."
"Hey," they were greeted by a chorus of slurs.
"Hey y'all," Kelly laughed. "What happened to renting out the bar, Jay?"
Her brother shrugged, "You try telling rednecks they can't drink beer for the night and see how fast they turn on you."
"This is way more fun anyway," Jimmy patted the spot beside him at the edge of the booth.
Kelly slid next to him while Ashley sat on the other side next to Kate, "Angela already left?"
"Yea, she had to be home for tomorrow."
Kelly nodded.
"See that guy," Jimmy pointed to an older guy in a sleeveless t-shirt and tight blue jeans. "He's married to that lady," he pointed to a lady at the bar holding her drink closely as she watched her husband dance all over a twenty-something. "Thing is...the girl he's dancing with...totally has an adam's apple."
"Does not," Kelly hit him jokingly.
"Oh, no, totally does, ask Einar."
Kelly raised an eyebrow at her bass player as he downed a shot.
"So not cool," he shook his head.
The whole group laughed, and Kelly stood, "Ok, I'm buying, who wants?"
Everybody raised their hands except for the two new backup singers.
"Guys, come on," she smiled sweetly. "My treat. I always do this when we go out after a show."
"Alright," Kate nodded with Jill. "Just nothing too strong."
"Scared of embarrassing yourself on a night out with the boss?" Cory teased.
"Cory, leave them alone," Kelly laughed before turning back to the duo. "No worries, y'all. I got it," she assured before walking away.
Ashley noticed Kate watching Kelly as the short Texan waited for the drinks. She was reaching up on her toes to be able to lean on the bar, joking with the girl mixing the drinks. She smiled as she saw her best friend tug on a curl absentmindedly, always a sure sign she was nervous about something. The bartender laughed at whatever Kelly had said.
"Is she always like this?" Kate asked curiously.
"Like what?" Ashley questioned.
"So friendly."
"Friendly?"
"Yea, I don't think I've seen her be anything that could even be mistaken for mean or rude since I met her."
"She's a sweet kid," Ashley nodded, smiling as Kelly walked back, balancing a tray full of drinks.
"Still got it," Kelly grinned, setting the tray down on the table without spilling.
The band gave her mock applause as she passed around their drinks.
"Oh shut it," she laughed, sitting back down next to Jimmy.
He laughed as he saw her wiping off the number on the palm of her hand.
"Not your type?" he questioned playfully.
Kelly scrunched her nose as she shook her head.
"You were flirt--"
"Was not."
"Ok, ok," he held his hands up in surrender. He looked across the table at Ashley who was trying her best to hold the two backup singers' attentions. "Ah, sorry. Forgot," he lowered his voice to a whisper. "But you do realize how many people would kill to be with someone who looked like that?" he asked, nodding to the bar.
"The only reason they flirt is so I'll spend more money. I was a cocktail waitress, trust me, I know how these things work."
"And if that wasn't the only reason?"
"I don't do sleaze."
Jimmy smiled, shaking his head, "I knew I raised you right."
"Raised me?"
"You'd be so lost without me," he teased. "You'd totally be passed out in some corner on drugs or something if it weren't for me keeping you in a straight line these past few years."
"So, the fact that I was a good kid growing up, that I have a strong faith, that I'm grounded...that has nothing to do with it?"
"Nope...all me..."
Kelly laughed as they tapped their glasses together before taking a sip.

Kelly watched as her band and backup singers danced with the local natives on the dance floor. Her chin rested in her hands as she watched Aben and Jason move closer to Kate as a rather round man tried to slide in behind her. She smiled, she'd raised her boys right.
Her eyes fell to Kate's hips, and the way they moved from side to side, flowing with the rhythm perfectly. Kelly stood up, deciding to join them. She felt a hand on the back of her shirt pulling her down as she passed the other side of the both. "What?"
"Kelly," Ashley shook her head.
"What are you doing?" she asked confusedly.
"Keeping you from doing something you'll regret."
"I was just going dance," she pointed out.
"Sure you were..." Ashley patted her knee. "Look, Jay's getting some more drinks. Sit with us for a bit. We haven't gone over what we're doing tomorrow, yet."
Kelly nodded, as her brother rejoined them "We're staying up here one more day, right?"
"Yep," Jason nodded, handing her a drink. "Lunch at Mom's?"
"Yea," Kelly agreed. "Totally craving a good home cooked meal."
"Last ones then," Jason raised up his beer. "So not going to Mom's house with a hangover ever again."
"Agreed," she laughed. She looked to the dance floor, "What about the guys?"
"They'll be fine. None of them have really drank anything since the race. Plus we had a huge round of wings before you got here."
"Why do I have the feeling it's on my tab?"
"Because you know us well," her brother grinned.
