Everlasting Love(Pt4)
Several months later, Sav skipped down the stairs and into the living room where Joe and Evelyn sat cuddled on the couch. Leaning over the back he kissed Joe’s neck. "I’m going out." He told them.
"mmm…you smell good. Hot date?" Joe looked up at him.
"You could say that." Sav bent down and kissed Evelyn’s cheek, copping a feel of her breast. "Oh no bra." He smiled wickedly.
"Rick." Evelyn squealed and slapped his hand.
Joe glared at him.
"What?" Sav glanced at him. "Can’t blame a man for trying."
"Yeah right." Joe said softly.
"Oh did I forget you baby?" Sav grabbed Joe’s chin and pushed his head back on the couch. Covering his mouth, pushing his tongue against Joe’s lips, while his hand ran down his chest to rub over the front of his jeans. Sav pulled back and met his eyes. "Don’t wait..."
Joe quickly covered his lips with his fingers. "Don’t say that."
"Why?"
"The last time you said that, I didn’t see you for the almost three years."
"Not gonna happen babe." Sav kissed him again. "Later."
Joe watched him walk out of the room and heard the door shut.
"He’s a bit frisky tonight." Evelyn commented.
Turning to Evelyn he smiled wickedly at her. "He’s always like that." Joe said and pulled her over his legs so that she was straddling him. He scooted down a bit and thrust his hips upward. "We’re alone tonight, everybody has gone out…won’t be home for hours." Joe lifted her shirt off, exposing her bare breast. "We can make the most of it." Joe growled and latched his mouth on her nipple. Unsnapping the button on her jeans and pushing is hands down inside to grip her ass.
Evelyn ran her hands across his broad shoulders. "Joe."
"hum." He moved to the other side, flicking his tongue over the hard nub before closing his lips around it.
"I want to talk to you about something."
He kissed and licked a path up to her neck. "Can’t it wait?"
"I have been waiting."
Joe looked up at her and leaned back against the couch, pulling his hand from her jeans, using his finger to trace light circles over her skin.
"Ok, I’m listening."
"I know we’ve talked about this before, but...I’m not getting any younger and I need some kind of commitment from you."
"We’ve been together for almost twenty years Evelyn. That isn’t commitment enough for you?"
"No."
Joe dropped his hand to the cushion. He knew where this was leading. "Back to marriage again I see."
"What’s so wrong about us getting married?"
"Every time we have this discussion, I always tell you I don’t want to get married. What’s the big deal about having our names on paper saying that we are husband and wife."
"It’s a big deal to me Joe."
"My answer is still no."
Evelyn grabbed her shirt and put it back on. "If Rick wasn’t in the picture, it would be different."
"Rick was there long before I met you. You knew all about that in the beginning."
"Well maybe its time I tell you that I’m tired of sharing you with him."
"Your kidding right?"
Evelyn stood up. "I love you very much Joe. I wouldn’t still be with you if I didn’t. I don’t want to be second anymore and I know you will not give up your relationship with Rick."
"Your right about that." Joe said evenly. "It took you long enough to say your leaving me."
"I’m sorry, but I want more than you’re willing to offer."
"I’ve given you everything you’ve asked…"
Evelyn looked at the floor, slowly shaking her head.
"Except a ring on your finger and marriage."
Raising her eyes back up to meet his, tears that she had been holding back slipped down her cheeks.
"You know I can’t marry you."
"Can’t or won’t?" Evelyn quickly asked.
"Both." Joe replied. "Getting married is not going to change anything we have now. I love you Evelyn and I don’t want you to leave."
"I just can’t do this anymore." Evelyn turned away and went upstairs.
Joe stared at the empty space where she had been standing, stunned that she was leaving him after all the years they were together. He slumped back on the couch, taking a deep breath and dropped his head back to stare at the ceiling.

Amber pulled the door open and went inside the loud, smoke filled pub. Many faces she recognized as she scanned the crowd, a few of them waved to her. Craning her head more she found him sitting at one of the side tables with some friends, he tossed back a drink and followed it with blood wine.
Amber went down the steps and made her way through the crowd toward his table. Getting stopped several times to say hello to the people she knew. Some ones arm went around her waist from behind, pulling her against his lean body.
"Hello sweet Amber." He whispered.
Amber smiled and turned around in his arm. "Hello Scott."
Scott leaned down and kissed her full on the lips. Holding her tight around the waist with both arms, he picked her up and waded through the crowd.
"Hey Savage." Scott called out, as he got closer to the table. "I found something that belongs to you."
Sav tossed back the next round of drinks and turned around in his seat just as Scott put Amber down. He smiled and stood up, pulling Amber against him. "Hi." Soft whispers of breathe across her lips before he took her mouth in a deep kiss.
Hoots and yells around the table urged them on.
Sav pulled away and saw the flush of her cheeks.
"Hi." Amber replied.
"Any problems getting away?"
"No. Just told them I was going out with some friends."
"Good." Sav kissed her again. He sat down and pulled Amber down on his lap.
She greeted everyone around the table and ordered a drink.
"About time you two came out of the closet and got together." Sashay, a long time friend of Amber’s said and held up her drink.
"You haven’t been around lately Sashay, they’ve been sneaking around for a month." Daniel informed her.
"And we’d like to keep it that way too." Amber reminded everyone.
"Sneaking…so you haven’t slept together yet?" Sashay pointed.
"No we haven’t." Sav replied.
Sashay laughed. "That’s a surprise. As long as you two have pined away for each other...What are you waiting for?"
Sav and Amber looked at each other.
"We have no idea." They both said together.
Daniel fumbled in his back pocket, tossing money on the table. "Here I’ll pay for the room."
"We don’t need your money Daniel." Amber said pushing it back to him.
A slow song started playing over the speakers throughout the club from the live band on the stage.
"Would you like to dance?" Sav whispered.
Amber stood up and took his hand, leading him out to the dance floor amongst the other couples. Sav pulled her slender figure into his arms, staring down into her eyes. That same look of love that he had noticed there when she was little burned brighter. He reached up and softly stroked her cheek, then gently kissed her lips.
"Whenever you’re ready to come to me, I’ll be waiting."
"You would think that would have been the first thing I did." Amber ran her fingers through his silky hair.
Sav closed his eyes at her touch, then kissed the inside of her wrist. He ached to ease his fangs into the vein just millimeters under his lips. Instead he reached up and pulled her hand down, placing a soft kiss in her palm.
"What’s that?" Sav leaned back looking down at her arm.
"What?"
"There, on your arm."
Amber knew what he was asking about. "It’s nothing, just an old age spot I guess."
Sav rubbed his thumb over the quarter size dark brown spot, pushing her sleeve up he saw several smaller ones. "These don’ t look like age spots."
"It’s nothing really."
Sav held her gaze a moment. "You were never good at lying."
"What makes you think I’m lying?"
"I know you better than that. You have a different smell to your blood that has never been there before. Why?"
Amber dropped her head so she didn’t have to look at him. "It’s nothing."
Sav tilted her head back up. "Why?" he had stopped their slow swaying.
Amber stared into his intense blue eyes, getting lost in the depths. "I…I…was tested positive for...HIV."
At her words it felt like someone punched Sav in the stomach. "What?"
"Shortly after I moved in I went to the doctor. It didn’t show up the first time, so I had to wait and go back."
"Who?" Sav gripped her arms.
"Jeremy. I received a letter two months ago from his sister. Jeremy died in his sleep."
Sav pulled her across the floor and out to the patio behind the club. They sat down at a table far enough away from everyone. "What else have you been hiding?"
"Nothing really. I’ve been going to the doctor once a month, taking medicine, changed my diet, but..."
"But what?"
"It’s advancing faster then the doctors have told me."
Sav released her, averting his eyes from her and rubbing the stiffness from his neck. "We knew something was bothering you, felt it, but never this…never this. You haven’t told Joe?" "You can't tell him. I don’t want him to know."
"I can’t do that Amber, he has a right to know."
"Don’t tell him Sav, do it for me...please."
"I can’t promise you that and you know it. I’ll try not to say anything, just yet. I’ll give you time to tell him, if not I will."
Amber drew in a deep breath and leaned back in the chair, a single tear slipped from her eye. "Thank you," she whispered. "You would think that there was a cure for this disease."
"But there isn’t." Sav regarding her wearily.
"The medicines I have are not going to change the outcome. Every day I feel the effects growing stronger. Given my age, it’s only a matter of time before the disease renders me helpless."
Sav gripped the edge of the table, his mind a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions. Amber, the little girl that stole his heart 48 years ago, from the first time he held her when she was a few days old. Those big deep blue eyes staring up at him. Sav had vowed silently to her that he would love and protect her from that day on. He felt those same eyes, only sea green in color now, staring back at him. Would he break that vow, to sit back and watch the woman he loves, waste away to nothing, from this horrible mortal disease?
"Rick..." Amber began, breaking through his hazy thoughts. "...now you know why I’ve wanted to be with you, to stop wasting time that I don’t have. I want to know what’s its like to make love to you. Something I’ve dreamed about for as long as I can remember."
Sav knelt on the floor before her. "You don’t have to die."
"I know." Amber reached up and brushed away the tear that ran down his cheek. "I know."
Sav held her hand, turning his head to place another kiss in the palm of her hand.
Amber scooted forward in the chair, wrapping her arms around his neck. The sounds and people around them forgotten as they held on to each other for a long while. Amber cried softly, finally able to release the anguish that she had held inside, for over a year.
