Back in the Ghost Adventures’ hotel room with Billy, their EVP guy, and a lot of complicated looking equipment Johnny stayed glued to Matt’s side. His nose had stopped bleeding in the car and the cuts on his cheek weren’t deep enough to warrant a hospital visit, just scratches. His breath came and went easily despite his bruised torso, he had drifted into sleep not long after curling up on the bed next to Matt. The Ghost Adventures crew were going over every second of Johnny’s time in the house. Any particularly loud sounds made him flinch but even that was growing less as he fell deeper into sleep. Matt’s eyes were shutting more and more often as well and Brian watched him struggle to stay awake. A particularly high scream from Johnny’s tape jerked him to full wakefulness and Vengeance flinched next to Brian. Johnny woke up as well breathing hard and trembling.
Zak and Nick looked over their shoulders, “sorry guys,” Nick whispered. Matt relaxed again and tightened his hold on Johnny. Zak turned down the volume a little more and the room lapsed into relative silence. “Dude, you guys have got to see this.” Aaron whispered staring into the viewfinder of Johnny’s camera. Matt stayed where he was next to Johnny while Vengeance and Brian got up to join the other three crowded around the camera. “Dude, we can’t see anything, put it on the TV.” Nick said stepping back. Aaron hooked the camera up in record time and started playing the footage again. The greenish tint of night vision filled the screen, bright flecks of dust swirled around the screen and past that was a table stacked with mason jars. “Root cellar.” Zak murmured. A rumbling growl, distorted by the TV’s speakers, filled the room. Matt’s answering growl made everyone turn around. Johnny was awake again looking around the room, his face deathly white and the cuts standing out in crimson lines against the pale backdrop. Vengeance got up and sat down next to him again, “just the TV.” he murmured digging into a pocket. He pulled out his Ipod a second later. “Here, go back to sleep.” he said. Johnny stuck the ear buds in and closed his eyes again, Zack stayed with him running his fingers up and down his arm until his breath evened and he was asleep again. Aaron resumed the video when the bassist was asleep, “here’s the freaky part.” he whispered. From the darkness under the table two reflective eyes appeared and jars rattled. Johnny’s voice broke in, “hello? Dead soldier?” The eyes disappeared and a shadow darker than the rest detached and darted to the other side of the room. “Hi, I’m not going to hurt you.” his voice wasn’t as confident, it sounded like he was a little winded. Johnny Brian jumped when the mechanical voice interrupted the tense silence. The camera jerked around the room erratically, a flashlight lighting the darkness under the tables. John-ny The voice again and this time Brian recognized it as the same one he’d heard on the porch. The PX Device. On screen Johnny yelped, “go away” he whispered his voice tight and raspy. A little louder, “what do you want?” the camera panned around the room again and landed on a shadow slinking across the wall, vaguely humanoid and Brian’s stomach twisted. Run The camera jumped again, “who are you?” he snapped, the camera stayed on the place where the shadow had disappeared. Brian unclenched his hands when his fingers started to ache. Why wasn’t he running out of the basement? Johnny, run “Run from what, what the fuck are you?” his voice was high and shaking. In the greenish light of night vision mist rose in front of the camera, solidified, darkened and became a grayish outline of long arms and longer legs, mussed hair that would be a soft brown in color. Wide bright eyes that reflected cat-like in the camera, not the narrowed slits that had been watching the bassist from under the table. Jimmy reached out to what was probably Johnny’s face, the soft sound of wind brushed the camera’s microphone. Johnny yelped and whipped around and his camera landed on the door. Jimmy appeared at the door again and then whirled around like someone had attacked him. The shadow flitted across the screen. Jimmy’s eyes narrowed and he lunged for it, grabbing an arm and shoulder and dragging the shadow down. Flaring out behind him were streaks of white light that bore a strong resemblance to smoke-made bird wings. They rolled off screen and Brian forced himself to take a breath. Aaron paused the video, “it continues from there, can’t see anything but you can hear it.” he said quietly. Zak stared slack jawed, “that…that…” he stopped and continued to stare. Shivers ran up and down Brian’s arms, “Jimmy.” he whispered. The after image of the wispy wings still burned his eyes. He turned around and found Matt and Zack staring at the screen. Johnny was still asleep, his face untroubled. Zack’s eyes focused on Brian and the lead guitarist got up to sit on the bed with them. “I saw him, on the porch.” he whispered when he was comfortable against Zack’s chest. Zack shivered and didn’t say anything but nuzzled the side of his head. Matt looked down at the top of Johnny’s head, “I’m glad he’s still hanging around.” he said, he brushed his hand down Johnny’s arm and the bassist sighed in his sleep. A cold hand ran down Brian’s cheek and Zack gasped tightening his arms on him. Forever A walkie talkie whispered. Brian and Zack both jerked their heads around at the sound. The walkie talkies lay scattered on the table, battery packs charging.A/N: Happy Halloween!
