Chapter 4: Preparations, A Story, An Ex
Andy woke up and looked at her watch, it was five in the morning. She set an alarm for five forty five. She didn't wake up because of her dream, she just woke up. She swung her legs off of the couch and sat up. She stayed in the living room since the rooms were taken up. Ethan and Alex in his room. Shey, Wendy, Lynn, and Kayla in her room. The four of them went to sleep an hour before Andy woke up. Addy, and Justin in the spare room. Brandon stayed in his room.
She rubbed her face and started her morning routine. Push ups, brushing her teeth, getting dressed for the day, and making coffee. She went to the back deck and sat down to watch the sunrise. She smiled and took in a deep breath. It was good to be home. Home. Sure she didn't know where that was but Georgia would always be some sort of home to her. She took a sip of her coffee and that's when her phone started to ring.
She answered it and it was someone from the store where she was going to pick up the grill. They told her that it was damaged in transit, so they had to place an order for a new one. They said she didn't have to pay for the extra shipping. She wanted to yell into her phone, but she kept her voice calm asking them how long would it take. They told her it would be a good twenty four to forty eight hours. They were rushing it but that's all they could do.
She understood and asked if it could be delivered to her house. They said it could and she gave them all her information. They told her they would give her a call if anything else were to happen. She thanked them and hung up. She closed her eyes and took in a deep breath. She let it out and opened her eyes. She walked back inside and made herself another cup of coffee. She knew she wasn't going to hear the end of it from her dad.
She wanted to put the grill together before her dad showed up, but since he came in early, she knew he would be asking her about it. He would insist on putting it together. She was trying to avoid that all together. Sure he was good at putting things together and stuff. But her and mom were better at it. Of course a lot of it happened when Andy had to take over doing minor repairs to their old house in Virginia when her dad was deployed.
She checked her watch when she heard vehicles pull up. She walked to her front door and opened it. She smiled seeing the roof guys, foundation guys, and the pool guys. She went out to greet them and shook all their hands. She talked to each lead guy and when they were all done they said everything should be done a little after lunch. She thanked them and shook their hands again.
She hurried back into the house. She finished her coffee, then grabbed her keys and wallet. She rushed out the door and to the van. She quickly started it up and drove away. She smiled at herself when she thought about everyone waking up hungover from the night before. They were about be super grumpy in the next twenty minutes.
Forty five minutes later Andy called to the workers telling them she picked them up some coffee and bagels for breakfast. She wanted to do donuts, but figured bagels would be a better bet. They all thanked when she handed them cups of coffee and they got to pick which kind of bagel they wanted.
She smiled and went into the house and saw everyone seemed to have made their way downstairs. Now they were all sleeping in the living room. She shook her head and answered her phone.
"Hey. Okay, yeah, I just bought the workers some breakfast. I got everyone else some too. Yeah let me set this down and I'll be there to pick you up." She walked over to the dining room table and put down the bag of bagels and trays of to go coffee cups. Each having a name on them.
"I'm headed out now. I'll see you in a bit." She walked out of the house again and her phone rang again.
"Hey dad. Yeah I just got off the phone with Tim. Yeah, I'll pick you up first. I'll call them back and let them know. Okay see you soon. Love you too. Bye."
Andy started up the van and she was off again. She started to chuckle at the thought of everyone waking up to her mom's loudness. She had to get that on video. She turned down the road and drove towards her Uncle's house. This morning would be an interesting one.
It didn't take long for her to pick up her parents and Lynn's parents. Andy told them that the house was being worked on, so everyone somehow ended up downstairs sleeping.
"Why didn't you wake them up?" Her mom asked.
"Well, Tim called saying they were ready. Then dad called right after saying you were ready. So I came to get y'all."
"How did we not see them at the airport?" Kevin asked.
"Different airport maybe?" Andy said with a shrug and she pulled into the driveway. She parked the van and turned it off. She took out her phone and hit record on her camera. She talked to it for a few moments and then walked into her house.
Her mom walked in and Andy chuckled because even just her mom taking off her sweater caused a loud noise. She watched as Wendy's eyes opened but she closed them back up. Susan and Cathy made a beeline to Andy's kitchen. Just as Andy thought, loud noises were coming from the kitchen. Kevin and Tim were walking around the outside of the house checking on the work in progress.
Andy could hear some groans coming from the living room. She kept recording what was going on. She spoke saying that when she was growing up she wasn't able to sleep in because of all the noise her mom would make. Wendy was the first one to wake up.
So now not only were there noises coming from outside the house because of the roof being worked on as well as the foundation. Plus the pool guys were making some noise too. Add on the noise coming from the kitchen that wasn't too far from the living room.
Wendy stood up and wrapped a blanket around her. She stumbled up to Andy and with tired eyes she squinted at her, "I hate you so much right now."
"Good morning to you too." She said with a laugh. A few minutes later Kayla and Addy woke up. They grumbled as well.
"Aunt Susan's here," Addy said with a moan and got up. The two walked passed Andy as she said good morning. Brandon came down the stairs dressed for the day and he smiled at Andy.
"Hey how long have you been awake?" He asked her.
"About five. You?"
"Around the same time, but I was playing on my phone for a while. Brittany's on her way. Why is everyone downstairs?" He asked coming back with a bagel and cup of coffee.
"Guess they got a rude wake up call when the guys started to work on the roof. Thought you would be down here too."
He shook his head, "Naw, I knew the guys were coming so I just set an alarm. Is your mom here?" He asked and she pointed to the kitchen. He poked his head in and waved at Susan and Cathy. The two women smiled. He went into the kitchen and gave Susan a hug and she introduced Cathy to Brandon. They both said that he was too skinny and he needed to eat something. He chuckled then heard his name being called. He looked towards the backyard and saw Kevin waving at him. He excused himself and walked outside.
Andy watched as Shey, Lynn, Ethan, Alex, and Justin slowly started to get up.
"Stop with the noise!" Ethan groaned throwing a pillow over his face. Susan came right out of the kitchen.
"Ethan James Chandler! You get your ass up and clean this place up!" She said and Ethan jumped up from the floor Andy couldn't believe it.
"Yes ma'am!" He said and went straight to work picking up the blankets and pillows. He nudged Alex and Justin telling them to get up or Andy's mom would have their heads. They're eyes shot open and they stood up. They started to help Ethan with the living room.
Lynn and Shey woke up confused and Susan saw them both. She smiled, "Girls! Shey I didn't know you were going to be here! Cathy! Lynn's out here!"
She walked up to them and hugged them both. She touched their cheeks saying that it was so good to see them. Cathy came out of the kitchen and went up to her daughter.
Andy stopped recording and she couldn't wait to post it later. She walked through the kitchen and went outside. She walked up to her dad and smiled.
"Brandon told us what the damage was. Are you getting a good price?" He asked her and she nodded.
"Yeah, I called the company that Uncle Chris uses, they're giving me a pretty decent discount. The guys that Brandon had come take a look were charging too much. The damage isn't as bad as he made it out to be. Apparently those guys came highly recommended according to him." And said with a chuckle looking at Brandon.
"Hey I'm not gonna lie. I kind of freaked out and couldn't get a hold of Andrea or Ethan for a while. So I just did some research and those guys just popped up."
They all chuckled and Andy's phone started to ring, "It's Uncle Chris. Hey." She answered.
"Hey, so the bonfire can't happen. Someone destroyed my fire pit. Damn teenagers."
Andy chuckled, "Well just come over here. Everyone's over here already. Mom and Cathy are in the kitchen no doubt making food. Everyone's here. Except one person my mom wants to be."
She heard her Uncle sigh over the phone. She bit down on her lip hoping and praying that he would change his mind.
"I know who you're talking about. I don't know how Veronica is gonna feel about it."
"Oh come on Uncle Chris this is my mom and dad's anniversary! Please! Just let them have this. Please. Wendy and I grew up with her. WE even miss her. We rarely see her. It would mean the world to my mom if she could come."
There was silence on the phone and Andy sent up another prayer. She heard him sigh.
"Okay, okay. Because I love my nieces and your mom and my knuckle headed twin brother. I'll let Veronica know."
Andy jumped up, "YES! Thank you Uncle Chris! I'll go see her today! Does she live at the same address?"
"Yeah, she does. I'll tell Veronica the change of plans and then we'll head over. Do you want us to bring anything?"
"Yeah, uh, can you bring your grill?"
******************************************************************************
"You ready?" Andy asked Wendy as they walked up the steps to the small house. Wendy smiled and nodded.
"I've missed her."
"So have I." Andy rang the doorbell and they waited. They heard some rustling and then the turn of the lock. When the door opened there stood a woman in her late forties, long light brown hair, her brown eyes behind her glasses, and she took in the two women in standing in front of her.
She gave them a teary smile and pulled them in both for a tight hug. She let out a soft sob and Andy couldn't stop her own tears. It's been a long time since they've seen each other and the older woman couldn't believe the two of them were here.
She let go of them both and wiped her tears away just as they did. The three of them laughed and she invited them in. She led them to her living room and gestured for them to sit down on her couch and she sat across from them in her arm chair.
"I can't believe you both are here!" She said with a big smile.
"We've missed you Aunt Leslie it's been too long." Wendy said smiling back.
"That it has. Andrea, I've been following your career. Your photographs are beautiful."
"Thank you. It's so good to see you! It's been what? Eight years since we've seen you last."
Leslie nodded, "Eight years too long. What brings you to Georgia?"
"Mom and dad's anniversary. Andy's throwing them a party at her house." Wendy said.
"Kayla mentioned Chris bought a house for you."
Andy nodded, "This is my present to them, since I missed the last couple of their anniversaries. This one my mom really wants you to be there. She's misses you. You two were so close once and it would be amazing if you could come."
"I don't know girls. What about Veronica?"
"Oh screw Veronica! She's not my Aunt!" Andy said and Wendy touched her arm. "I'm sorry, but I don't have that connection with her that we have with you. We grew up with you and we still say 'Aunt Leslie' in any conversation. We did get close to Veronica's kids, but not her. Sure she's married to Uncle Chris, and I may be acting childish, but we miss you and this would mean the world to us if you could come. We were actually hoping if you could come with us today."
"Does Chris know about this?"
They both nodded and waited for her to answer. Leslie was deep in thought. She really did miss their mom and she missed them. When her kids would tell her that the came to visit she was upset that the didn't come to see her. But they would say that they asked about her all the time. That always brought a smile to her face. She looked at the two girls sitting in front of her and she saw the two little girls in the pretty little dresses at her wedding to Chris years ago. She sighed and nodded her head.
The sisters jumped off the couch and rushed over to Leslie wrapping their arms around her. She laughed and pulled them in close. They let go of each other and she mentioned that she should freshen up and they would leave as soon as she was done. They nodded and Andy took out her phone.
"I feel like you've been on your phone all day." Wendy said as Andy smiled and walked out. She closed the door behind her and answered the call.
"Hey. Yeah, I know. I guess we'll figure it out when it gets closer. No, I've talked to them, it's gonna be ready. Just have to make the final decisions." Andy started to pace back and forth on the front lawn.
"So they did tell you? I wasn't expecting it either. I'll talk to my Uncle and explain everything. Apparently she's gonna be at the party. Right. When's the next one? Uh huh. Okay. This will determine? I can't wait." Andy stopped pacing when she heard the door open, "I gotta go. I love you." She finished quietly and hung up her phone.
"Who was that?" Wendy asked.
"One of the guys working on the house. They're just about done." She smiled and unlocked the van. They got in and when they were all settled Andy turned on the van and started to drive away.
Meanwhile back at Andy's house Susan was showing Cathy how to make lumpia. They were lost in conversation when Lynn joined them. Susan smiled and told her to sit down and she started to show Lynn what to do. After showing her a few times, Lynn tried and Susan smiled telling her she got it right.
"How's everything with you?" Susan asked with a smile.
"Couldn't be better. Just have to make some final arrangements and everything will be set." She smiled and took Lynn's hand in hers.
"I just don't like this agreement you two came up with." Susan said with a small sigh and Cathy agreed.
"I know, but it's been working out, to be honest."
"Can you two really go a whole another month? I would have announced it by now." Cathy said.
"Mom, we went this long, another month is a piece of cake." She smiled looking at Cathy.
"Okay, well, when you come back to Virginia, I'm gonna show how to make the mix. It's really easy. Andrea and Wendy love lumpia."
"I've always wanted to ask this," Lynn started rolling up the mix in the wrapper. Susan smiled and looked at her.
"Andrea told us that her sister gave their dad a Confederate flag and it hangs in your house. With everything that's going on in the world, how does it make you feel? Like with the world associating that flag with something horrible."
Susan sighed and looked out the window and saw her husband laughing with Brandon and his brother. She smiled remembering their first date, their wedding day, and just everything they've been through together.
"I'm gonna tell you a story about when I came here." She said looking back at Lynn. Ethan just joined them and started to help. Shey joined them too. Ethan started to show Shey what to do. Susan took in a deep breath and started to tell her tale of her moving to the States.
"When I first came here we came to Georgia to meet Kevin's family. Now, Kevin is the youngest. Andrew was the oldest, Zane the second oldest, then Chris, then Kevin. Chris and Kevin are fraternal twins. So Andrew was married first. But that's another story. Anyway, imagine coming home to your traditional Southern family, with a wife of a foreign country and an almost two year old. His father didn't take me too well. But his mother, she was overjoyed.
Sure she was upset that she didn't get to see her youngest get married, but she had granddaughter to spoil. My English is good, I don't have a heavy accent like my friends do. But I still have a hard time pronouncing things."
"I was told to ask her how to say October. Trust me I was confused when I heard the V sound." Ethan said with a small laugh and Susan gave him a look. He gave her an apologetic smile and Susan continued to tell her story.
"Kevin came to me one morning saying that his dad wanted to talk to us. I was scared, but determined. I didn't care what his father thought. Kevin and I were young and in love and we had our future planned out. We were on the porch and we sat across from his dad. Kevin took my hand and his dad looked at us. He told us that he lost a son already and he couldn't stand to lose another one. He stood up and took my hand. I stood up and his dad wrapped his arms around me and told me that I was always welcome. I was welcomed in the family."
"Keep in mind, Kevin and I were really young when we married. I was twenty three and he was twenty one, we were parents at twenty two and twenty. But here we are going on thirty three years of marriage. So to answer your question about the flag. I love my husband and I love my children. But I've always told people that it's not about what the flag represents. It's about the heritage behind it. My girls grew up learning my culture, and also learning their dad's.
We've taught them that no matter someone's background there's a history behind it somewhere. Don't judge just because of a flag they fly outside of their house. When people wanted to take down the statues the girls got upset. So did I, because it was a part of the history that built this country. We also keep politics out of the house. The girls and their dad sometimes don't see eye to eye. But we all make sure not to bring up politics.
All in all he understands my traditions and I understand his. We keep both and we raised our girls to know both. To the point where they always ask us where a certain dish is, when we tell them we didn't make it; they tell us 'But mom, it's tradition.'" She finished with a laugh looking at Ethan and he nodded,
"It's true. Andrea went on and on about how there were always three pies at Thanksgiving. Apple, pumpkin, and pecan. Well I was over one year and there wasn't pecan pie. Wendy and Andrea asked about it. Susan said they didn't have it since they tripled up on the other two. You should have seen their faces. I don't think I've ever seen Andrea look as sad as she did. Next thing I know Kevin grabbed his car keys and walked out of the house. Four hours later he comes back with three pecan pies. After that, he sat down on the couch and said that he was going to watch football before dinner." He explained and everyone laughed.
They heard the door open and Susan looked up seeing Andy and Wendy walk in with a big smiles on their faces, "Hey mom, someone wants to see you." Andy said.
Aunt Leslie turned the corner. Susan put her hand to her mouth and stood up from her chair. She slowly walked up to her, "Hey Susan," Leslie said with a teary smile. Susan didn't say a word she just brought the other woman into a hug.
Wendy and Andy took out their phones and started to take pictures of the two women. They had tears in their eyes and so did their mom and Aunt. Addy and Kayla rushed in and saw the exchange. They smiled and went over to Andy and Wendy. Andy smiled and put her arm around Kayla as Addy did the same with Wendy.
"It's good to see them together. I've missed it." Kayla said and Andy nodded giving her cousin a kiss on her forehead. She pulled her close and then cleared her throat. She gave Kayla one more squeeze and walked out to the backyard. She saw Veronica with a wine glass in her hand and she tried not to roll her eyes.
She came up to her dad and smiled, "Hey the workers just left. The house looks good. Brandon put the invoices in the kitchen drawer."
She nodded, "Okay great, I'll take care of it after this weekend. Leslie's inside if you wanna see her." Kevin smiled and put a hand on her shoulder giving her a gentle squeeze.
"I've missed her." He said and started to walk into the house. She smiled and watched as her dad and her Aunt hugged. Tonight was going to be a good night.
"Hey Andrea, I need to talk to you." Chris said coming up to her.
"What's up?"
"Well, Kayla kinda told me that you and our new district manager have a past. I didn't know that at the time when I hired her. Well, I kinda invited her tonight."
Andy's eyes went wide and Chris quickly began to explain, "Look, I'm sorry! I didn't know until AFTER I invited her! I didn't know she was the one from Michigan. Our last name is pretty common. Plus, you weren't around when I needed some help."
"You do realize that she knows my parents right?"
Now it was time for Chris's eyes to go wide. Andy sighed and shook her head. She rubbed her face in her hands and looked back at her Uncle, "What did you tell her?"
"I just said that my brother and sister in law were coming into town because their daughter was throwing them an anniversary party. I didn't name any names. She's gonna be here around six with her wife."
"Wife?" She asked quietly and Chris nodded.
"She's bringing her daughter to the actual party."
At this point Andy started to really shake her head. This couldn't be happening. Chris looked at her confused.
"What?"
"Her daughter is the reason I left Michigan."
Andy sighed and started to tell her Uncle the full story of why she left Michigan, since she only told him bits and pieces. By the time Andy was done all Chris could do was apologize again. Andy waved him off and said it was too late to do anything at this point. She suggested they get his grill working before her dad comes back out and tries to attempt to put it together. He laughed and agreed. Andy asked if he could keep Ashley away from her during the get together tonight. Chris said he would try his best.
Andy nodded, tonight was going to be interesting.
******************************************************************************
Andy looked in the mirror and adjusted her sliver short sleeve button down. She knew Ethan would say something about her arms again. He's been calling her Hercules all day. She checked her hair and made sure it stayed in place. She really hoped that Ashley wouldn't recognize her tonight. She checked her belt and looked down at her plaid black and white shorts. It's been a while since she wore shorts. She needed to change up her style a little bit.
She did one more check of herself and left the spare room. On her way downstairs she could hear people chatting and light music playing. She put on her black and red checkered VANS, then stopped in the kitchen to make herself a drink. Jack Daniels, Coke, with a splash of cherry flavor. After mixing it all up in her cup of ice she walked outside.
"There she is!" Ethan said raising his cup to her. She smiled and he came up to her and put his arm around her.
"If I could have everyone's attention. Now, I know tonight is like a pre party thing until Saturday, but we all wouldn't be here if it wasn't for this girl right here! Here's to Andrea!" He raised his cup and everyone repeated his last words.
"Thank you everyone. I'll make this short. Thank you all for coming all this way, for my parents. I'll have a bigger speech Saturday night, but for now let's just enjoy family, friends, drinks, food, and good times. Cheers." They raised their cups and agreed.
Andy checked her watch and it was close to six. She really hoped that Ashley wouldn't show up. She let Ethan lead her over to Alex, Justin, and Brandon and they started to talk.
"What's the plan for tomorrow?" Justin asked.
"Well I think my mom wants to come back over and get more food ready. Still have to put up the decorations, and I have to pick up and set up the bounce houses. I'm hoping the new grill comes in tomorrow. They told me it would take twenty four to forty eight hours." She shook her head and took a sip of her drink.
"What happened to it?" Alex asked.
"Apparently it was damaged in transit. That's all they told me." She said and her phone started to ring.
"I swear that you're married to that thing." Ethan joked and she smiled excusing herself. She answered her phone and smiled. She hung up quickly and looked around for Wendy. She found her with Lynn and Kayla.
She walked up to them and tapped Wendy on her shoulder. "They're here, and so is he."
Wendy gave her sister a big smile and she nodded, "I'll be right back." She told the two. Then, she and Andy rushed off to the house. Alex and Ethan came up to Lynn and Kayla asking them what was going on but they shook their heads.
The small party was lively. Some friends came by to celebrate and Andy was able to get ahold of some of her dad's old high school friends. They turned up as well. Everyone was enjoying themselves they didn't see Andy and Wendy return to the backyard with some more people. Andy leaned down and whispered in the little girl's ear, "Go get mom and dad."
Just then five children rushed over to Susan and Kevin, "OH MY GOD!" Susan said with a smile, picking up the little boy that go to her first. Kevin picked up one of the girls and gave her a kiss on her cheek. They looked up at the deck and there stood Andy and Wendy, but they weren't alone.
Susan's mom, brother, sister, her three nieces, her three nephews, and Kevin's dad stood. Andy and Wendy stayed where they were and the rest went over to Kevin and Susan.
"What are y'all doing here?" Kevin asked giving everyone a hug.
"Andrea flew us in for the party." Sherry said with a smile.
Andy cleared her throat, "Surprise! When I was planning this I wanted our family to celebrate. I didn't just mean my dad's side, I also wanted my mom's side of the family. I wanted all of us to be in one place for the first time. Mom, dad happy anniversary. Everyone meet my little brothers and sisters. My three cousins from Seattle. My other cousins, my mom's brother, and sister, my grandma. Finally, we all know my grandpa. I didn't want us to be apart for this. So, once again let's enjoy friends, family, food, drinks, and love." She raised her cup and everyone cheersed.
She stepped off the deck with Wendy and they walked over to their parents. The little ones crowded around them and started to talk all at once. Andy smiled picking up the other little girl and Wendy picked up the youngest boy. Everyone started to talk all at once again and Andy calmed everyone down saying she would hear their stories one by one.
"They missed her huh?" Alex asked Ethan with a smile and he nodded. They watched as Andy and Wendy were introducing their family to everyone.
"When they went to the Philippines they were able to bring the kids that her parents wanted to adopt. Andy helped get them settled and she stayed for a while until they were comfortable. Andy even started to learn Tagalog." He explained with a smile.
Lynn watched Andy interact with her family and smiled. Her heart was warmed at the sight seeing Andy smile. Next month couldn't come soon enough. She thought back to the time when she went to visit her for a while. She finally met her mom and Kevin was right. Susan was a tough cookie to crack but they got along better than she thought.
Kayla saw Lynn standing by herself and walked over to her with a smile, "Penny for your thoughts?"
Lynn smiled, "I'm just glad to be a part of this."
Kayla nodded, "Me too. Family means everything to her. She's always trying to get all of us together, and this weekend seemed like the perfect opportunity."
"Come on, let's go meet them." Kayla took Lynn's hand and they walked over Andy's family. Just as they got there Chris whispered something to Andy and she nodded. She put her little sister down and said she would be right back. She followed her Uncle to the deck and Wendy started to introduce Lynn and Kayla to everyone.
"Ashley's about to pull up, I'm gonna keep her distracted. You keep playing host and let's hope she doesn't recognize you." Chris put a hand on her shoulder and gave her a gentle squeeze.
"Everything's going to be okay. Keep playing the amazing host and I'll do my best to keep Ashley at bay."
Andy nodded, "Before you bring her. I need a drink."
Chris smiled and went inside. She was about to follow him, but she turned back and looked at her family. She smiled when she saw Lynn playing with her little brother. Her heart warmed seeing Lynn interacting with her brother. She knew Lynn would make a great mom someday. Her Uncle called for her and she walked into the house. She just had to stay away from Ashley.
****************************************************************************
"Andrea, have you thought about where everyone's gonna stay?" Susan asked taking Andy's arm in hers.
"Way ahead of you mom. I rented the house across the street. I talked to the owners and they agreed to a price for this week. Paid in full."
"Are you sure you can afford all of this? You haven't used of all of your inheritance have you?"
Andy chuckled and took her mom's hands in hers, "Mom, stop worrying. I've put half of it away in a safe place and I just keep adding to it. I'm comfortable. I have some time off and I want to spend this weekend, not having to worry about anything. I'm out of debt, and my career has taken off to the point where I'm living out one of my dreams. Next month all my dreams will come true. Just enjoy this weekend mom. Look around, our entire family is here."
Susan looked around and smiled. Her daughter was right their entire family was around for the first time ever.
"I just wish grandma, Jake, Daniel, and Uncle Andrew were here too." Andy said with a sigh.
"They are here, they're watching over us. Now come on, let's go and enjoy tonight." Susan took her daughter's hand and they rejoined the party.
The lights came on and everyone cheered. Andy looked at Ethan and he came up to her and put his arm around her, "I don't know how you did it but you did it." He pulled her close and kissed her forehead. Andy looked around at her family and friends. She didn't know how she pulled it off either, but she was glad to have everyone here.
"Just need our Ynot family and everything would be complete." She said sighing.
"Yeah, but you know Antony, only closes three times a year." He said with a laugh.
"Well this year he's gonna be closed for an extra day." She said with a knowing smile. Ethan looked at her confused and before he could ask Trevor rushed up to Andy and wanted her to put him on her shoulders. She laughed and picked him up. She put him on his shoulders and he shouted that he was King Arthur. Those around laughed and Andy started to jog around the back yard holding his hands.
Ethan smiled as he watched his best friend was having a good time. Alex came up to him accompanied by two women he never met before.
"Babe, this is Taylor and Ashley. Chris invited them." They all shook hands and said it was nice to meet each other.
"Where are you from?" Ethan asked with a smile.
"Michigan originally. We just moved her because Taylor was offered a position with her job. I'm Chris's district manager." Ashley said.
Ethan smiled at the blonde and the brunette. He excused himself and took Alex by the arm, "You realize who the blonde girl is right?"
Alex shook his head and Ethan began to explain the ex that Andy had back in Michigan. Alex's eyes went slightly wide trying not to give himself away.
"Holy shit! I didn't know! Damn it! But we better go back over there."
"You go, I'm going to find Andy." Alex nodded. They gave each other a kiss and went their separate ways.
As Ethan left he saw Chris hurrying over to Alex. He turned and saw the four of them talking. Hopefully Alex wouldn't give Andy away. He found his best friend now giving piggy backs to the younger kids and he smiled. He also hoped Lynn and Ashley wouldn't cross paths. He didn't know what was going on between Lynn and Andy. He wanted to but he knew Andy would tell him at some point. He just got her back and they did have a lot to catch up on. He hoped this weekend they would be able to.
He smiled when he saw Andy out of breath coming up to him, "Jeez, you would think after a long flight they would be tired out."
"I think it's the fact they're seeing you after a long time. If you need me to pitch in for anything just let me know."
"Well, you are the alcohol expert Mr. Wisconsin." She said with a laugh and playfully punched his arm.
"That I am. So are we going to do any night swimming?" He asked motioning towards the pool.
"Maybe after things calm down. Got a few days of craziness coming our way." She said looking around. He nodded and took out his phone from his pocket and put it down on one of the chairs.
"Hey I noticed you have a new phone. Is it waterproof?" He asked with a twinkle in his eye. He watched her take out her phone and she gave it to him.
"Oh wow latest model huh?"
"Yeah, needed the storage."
"Where's your wallet?"
"In the spare bedroom why?"
Ethan just shrugged and put her phone down next to his, "Just wondering. I remember you said you thought it got stolen once."
"Oh yeah, that was a great day. Ended up being in the hotel room in London. Didn't realize it until I was halfway to the airport."
"Yeah I remember." He said put his arm around her. "It's good to see you smile. It's been a while. You also look a more relaxed." He said and started to lead her a little closer to the pool.
"Noticed the dark circles under my eyes aren't as bad." She told him with a chuckle.
"You know, I know it's close to September, but Georgia heat is like nothing else."
"I know! But you kinda get used to it."
Ethan nodded still having his arm around Andy's shoulders, "Yeah plus the tiki torches just add to the heat. Even if they are just trying to keep the mosquitos away."
"This is true."
"You know what else might."
"What's that?"
The next thing everyone heard was a loud splash. Everyone looked at the pool and saw Andy come up first catching her breath. Ethan came up laughing and she looked at him with a death glare.
"You're so lucky there's kids around. Otherwise I would be calling you so many bad names right now!" She said and pushed him under the water. She released him and they heard another splash. Ethan came up and caught his breath and started laughing. Addy resurfaced with a smile. There was another splash, and Andy shook her head when she saw Kayla come up.
She swam towards the stairs and got out of the pool. Brandon came up to her with a towel and smiled. She thanked him and started to dry off as best as she could. When she thought she was dry enough she started towards the house with the intent on changing.
She saw a person she didn't know by the back door and she just smiled, "Wasn't expecting that huh?" The person said with a smile.
Andy chuckled drying her hair, "Not at all. Leave it to my best friend to do something like this."
"I'm Taylor," she said, holding out her hand for Andy to shake. Andy's hand was dry enough and she shook her hand.
"Andrea, but I go by Andy expect when my parents are around."
"Nice to meet you. So is this your party?"
Andy really wanted to change clothes but she didn't want to be rude either, "Yeah, just a get together with some close friends and family. The big one is happening on Saturday. Parents anniversary and all."
"Gotcha. Nice place you got here. How long have you lived in Georgia?"
Andy smiled, "I would like to continue this conversation, but I really wanna change out of my wet clothes."
"Sure, I'm sorry. I wasn't thinking."
"It's alright. I'll be back down in a few and I'll come find ya." Andy was about to go into the house when she heard a young voice called her name. She smiled and saw her little sister holding her phone. She kissed her cheek and thanked her. She asked if she could go swimming and Andy said it was up to mom and to go ask her. She ran off with a smile. Andy watched as she went up to her mom.
After a few moments of watching them she went into the house. She took off her wet shoes and socks and put them by the back door. Still drying her hair she couldn't really seen anything and she bumped into someone. She said a quick apology and kept walking. She didn't hear the person's response. She grabbed her bag by the couch. Then, she just rushed up the stairs to change her clothes. She was pissed yet happy that Ethan pulled her into the pool.
Pissed because her watch wasn't waterproof, yet happy because she was glad he still had his goofy side. She reached the spare bedroom and started to take off her wet clothes. She sighed and started to dry herself off again.
She started to quickly go through her bag. She heard a knock on the door and she quickly put on her boxer briefs and sports bra, "Come in." She said and started to put on her pair of jeans when she heard the door open and saw Brittany walk in with Trevor.
"See buddy she's right here." She said with a smile. Andy quickly put on her TRAPT shirt and smiled.
"What's wrong bud?" She asked as she sat on the bed and put on a fresh pair of socks.
"I thought you left again." He said in a sad voice.
She stood up and walked over to them and Trevor went into her arms. She held in her arms, "I'll be around for a while little guy. I promise."
Brittany rubbed his back and smiled at Andy, "Are you okay? Ethan kinda pulled you in hard."
Andy nodded, "Yeah got some water up my nose. But other than that I'm good."
"Now all the kids wanna go in the pool."
"Oh, I'm sure. Come on let's get back out there." Andy started to leave the room with Brittany behind her.
"Hey question, why does your mom keep asking me if we're going to be in Virginia next month?"
Before Andy could answer Shey came up to them, "Andy! Ashley just came up to me asking me why I'm here!"
"We'll talk later. Hey little man, go to mama, I'll see you in second okay?"
Trevor nodded and Andy let Brittany take him. She took Trevor outside, Andy took Shey gently by the arm until they were in the living room.
"Did she see mom and dad yet?"
Shey shook her head, "No, every time they got close Chris would guide them away. But she's talked to Ethan, Alex, Kayla, Addy, Justin, and Brandon. I almost saw her go to Wendy."
"She hasn't gotten to Lynn yet has she?"
She shook her head again, "Not that I know of." Andy nodded and ran her hand through her hair. She started to pace back and forth.
"What do you want to do?"
"I don't know. My memories are still blurry, Can you get Chris? Keep Ashley distracted."
Shey nodded and rushed out. Andy rubbed her face trying to figure out what to do. If Ashley got to Lynn she would start asking questions. Lynn would recognize Ashley from her social media. Those were the last pictures she took down. Lynn was really patient with her with those pictures. After Ireland Andy slowly started to delete pictures of her exes.
Just last month she deleted the final one. She did warn Lynn that it would take a while and Lynn understood. She thought after Nicole and Vicki she wouldn't run into any more of her exes. But having Ashley here just proved to her how small the world is.
"Hey you okay?" She heard and turned around and saw her Uncle.
"Ashley knows Shey. She knows who she is. Lynn is going to recognize Ashley from the pictures I had on my social media. Now, a few years ago I hit my head and lost some of my memory."
"Yeah, I remember that, you had a headache for a while."
"I'm thinking about playing that card. Uncle Chris she's going to recognize my parents, and Wendy! This is a small party! I could have handled Saturday, but this is getting a little too close for comfort. And by the way who the fuck is Taylor?!"
"Ashley's wife. Did she talk to you?"
"I'm sorry what?" Andy put her hands on her hips and leaned in closer.
"Taylor is Ashley's wife. When did she talk to you?"
"When I was coming inside to change. She caught me at the backdoor." Andy put her hands on her face and sighed.
"Andrea, calm down, I'm taking care of everything." Not as soon as he said that Wendy came rushing in.
"Ashley just came up to me! The fuck?! She's asking about you!"
"FUCK!"
"Andrea! calm down! I got this! I got this!" Chris ran outside and Andy grabbed her chest.
"Shit. Do you need your medicine?"
"I can't I have alcohol in my system."
"Okay, remember last time. Just breathe. Take a deep breath."
"Wendy I can't with this. Not after everything with Nicole and Vicki."
Wendy put her hand over Andy's hand that was on her chest, "I know, I know, but Andy you need to breathe. Remember what Dr. Samson showed us. Just breathe."
Andy nodded and started to try and take deep breaths with her sister. When she was able to calm down Shey came back in and asked if she was okay. Andy nodded and asked what was going on outside. She told her that she saw Taylor talking to Lynn.
"Wendy I need to tell you something and you can't get mad. Because what I'm about to do I just need you to go along with it. We'll talk about it later. But I need you to trust me." Andy said looking at her sister.
"Okay, what is it?"
Shey and Andy looked at each other, "I'm gonna get us a shot." Shey said and walked into the kitchen. She found a bottle a Vodka and three shot glasses. She started to pour the liquid when she heard.
"ARE YOU SERIOUS?!"
"And there it is." She said taking the three shot glasses. She thought she was going to see an upset Wendy but when she returned the two sisters were hugging. Wendy pulled away and smiled at her big sister. Shey came up to them and gave them a shot glass.
"Okay are you ready for this?" Shey asked and they both nodded. They clinked their glasses together and took their shots. After downing them Shey took their shot glasses and went to make them some drinks. They all went into the kitchen as Shey went to work on their drinks.
"I think we're gonna need this." She said give the two sisters a cup each and they nodded.
They walked back outside and Andy saw Ashley talking to Ethan and Taylor talking to Lynn. Andy whispered something in Wendy's ear and she nodded. Wendy made a beeline for Lynn and Andy watched her whisper in Lynn's ear.
She looked up at Andy and just nodded. Then she turned her attention back at Taylor. Shey put her arm around Andy, "This is gonna be fun."
"Just gotta get through the weekend."
****************************************************************************
Later in the night the kids were getting tired so her cousins from Seattle, Sherry, Krista, and Rose helped her with the little ones. They brought them to the house across the street and got them ready for bed. Her mom and dad came over and took over for them. She gave her dad the keys to the van and the house so he could get their things from Chris's house. He offered to take Leslie home as well.
Andy talked to Chris about having her other cousins stay with him so her parents could be with the younger kids. Chris smiled and said that it would be okay with him.
When everything was settled she went back to her house and heard splashing coming from the pool. She shook her head when she walked out and saw Ethan, Kayla, Addy, Alex, and Justin back in the pool. She walked back into the kitchen and grabbed a roll of trash bags.
She went outside and started to clean up the backyard. People were coming up to her and thanking her for having them over. She smiled and shook their hands thanking them for coming. She told them she would see them on Saturday. Wendy came up next to her and started to help her out.
"What time is it?" Andy asked.
"Where's your watch?"
"Well DICKHEAD threw me in the pool and ruined it." She said out loud but Ethan didn't hear her.
"It was a nice watch too. Serenity got it for me when I got signed. She's gonna be so pissed that it got water logged. It was engraved and everything." She said putting picking up empty cups and putting them in trash bag. Shey and Lynn started to clean up on the other side of the backyard. Andy's phone rang and Wendy gave her a look.
"I swear, if that thing goes off on Saturday I'm tossing it in the pool!"
Andy smiled and shook her head. She answered, "Hello?"
"Andy, it's Serenity."
"Where are you calling from?"
"My hotel room in L.A. I'm just wanted to check up on you. How are you doing?"
"Oh, you know me always busy. In Georgia throwing my parents a party for their anniversary on Saturday."
"When do I get to meet them?"
"Uh, my birthday. I remembered you saying you wanted to come to the party."
Serenity chuckled, "That's right. I did. But I also wanted to tell you that we got the green light for your gallery in Seattle. I'm going to fly there next week and start looking for a place. I'll send you pictures. You tell me which location you want. We also have the green light for one in Roswell. I know you've been wanting to visit that place too."
"Oh my God! That's amazing!"
"Don't worry about a thing, I'll take care of it. Erika is meeting me in Seattle and from there we're going to Roswell. Also Hayley's been trying to get a hold of you. She's been asking about you and Lynn. She saw the interview and just wants to know what's going on."
"I think I stopped listening after you said Roswell."
They both laughed and Serenity cleared her throat, "But seriously call Hayley, she's worried."
"Will do. Oh by the way. That watch you gave me. Well, it got water logged. Do you know where I can get it repaired?"
"That was a really expensive watch Andy."
She could hear the sternness in her agent's voice.
"I know, I'm sorry, Ethan pulled me into the pool while I had it on. I'm just as upset as you are."
Serenity sighed, "I'll look up places close to you and I'll send you an address. I think Marco is in Atlanta. If he is I'll send you his way."
"Thank you. Thank you for everything."
"No problem. Oh, one more thing. There's a film crew in Atlanta as well. If you can make time we need a music video for your new single."
Andy nodded, "Okay, I'll let you know when it calms down after this weekend. I'll be free then."
"Sounds good. I know I told you to have time off, but how about inviting your friends to the video shoot?"
"I just might do that."
"Alright I have to catch this meeting. We'll talk soon have a good weekend and RELAX!" They hung up and Andy smiled. She looked around and found herself in the kitchen. She couldn't wait to tell her friends about Seattle and Roswell.
She walked back outside and saw all her friends and even some of the guests started cleaning up. She looked confused and Brandon came up to her and smiled, "Everyone started to pitch in. Wendy actually yelled at everyone in the pool to start cleaning up. Then she yelled at Ethan for ruining your watch. Was it really that special?"
Andy nodded, "Yeah, Serenity got it for me when I was signed to her agency. She had the date on it engraved and saying, 'Never Give Up.' I still have the watch Brian gave me. But I keep that one for very special occasions."
"Are you able to get that one fixed?"
"Serenity said she may have a friend in Atlanta. I'm thinking we all could take a day trip after this weekend."
"Could see if the Braves are playing. I know you've been wanting to see them."
Andy quickly pulled out her phone and started to look up her favorite baseball team's schedule. She didn't say a word to Brandon and she walked back inside. Shey came up to him with a confused look.
"What's she doing?" She asked tying up a trash bag.
Brandon chuckled, "She mentioned us taking a day trip to Atlanta and I mentioned maybe we could see her favorite baseball team play."
"You just had to bring up sports to Andy didn't you." Wendy said with a shake of her head. "Now we're gonna get dragged to a baseball game. Not just you or me but ALL of us. Don't get me wrong I love me some sports too. But Andy, she has to make sure she watches SportsCenter every day, or even goes on ESPN.com for hours checking her college fantasy. Yes, she found out that there is one and she sighed. Next thing you're gonna tell me is that she's gonna get us tickets to a Bulldawgs game."
"Oh fuck! I didn't think of that!" Andy said as she stepped out of the house then she went back in to look up her favorite college football team's schedule.
Brandon laughed and pointed at Wendy, "That was all you."
Andy came rushing out, "BRAVES AND DAWGS HERE WE COME!"
Justin came up on the deck and leaned over to Wendy, "How much can we sell our tickets for?"
Shey, Ethan, and Alex heard him and they started to chuckle. What they didn't see was a sad Andy walk back into the house. Brandon watched her walk in and he marched over to them. He was really angry at them. Andy went out of her way to make this weekend happen and then went out of her way to get them tickets to spend time with them. Before he spoke he saw Brittany with Trevor, Addy, and Kayla rush into the house to check on Andy.
"Okay, you know what, Andy's back. I may not like baseball, but I'm going to go with her because I haven't seen her in like three years. Minus the couple of times she came through. Most of you haven't seen her in a year and a half. I can't tell you how many times I've heard Ethan complain about it. Now that she's back and she wants to do stuff with us, you're wanting to sell tickets that she's bought for us!
I may not be close to Andy like the rest of you. But think of all the fucking times she's been there for us. All the times she went OUT OF HER WAY to make all of us happy! She puts everyone before her. For once guys for FUCKING once put her first!" He sighed and looked at all the shocked expressions.
"You know what, you guys clean this up. Andy put it together. She's cleaned up our messes, think it's time someone else cleans up for Andy. You guys are ridiculous I can't believe all of you!" Brandon walked into the house, leaving a bewildered group.
Lynn walked up to the deck and looked at them, "Guys, Brandon's right. Andy's been there for us. She took a trip to Boston and was put through a lot. She rushed to Angel and Brian's wedding. After being on five different planes. She was without us for a year because of her job. But she never forgot to call us on our birthdays. Or even check in once in a while. We barely heard from her and now she's back. She wants to make up for lost time.
Let's not take this for granted. I know she's missed a lot, but she wants to spend time with us. We should make the most of it, because we don't know if she's gonna take off again. Sure she has all this time off, but we all know her. Once Serenity says that she has to get to a shoot, you know she's gonna pack up and go. I know you all want to know what's going on with her and I. I promise you we will tell you, but right now let's help her with this weekend."
When she finished her speech she started to clean up the deck. She looked into the house and could see Brittany hugging Andy on the couch. Everyone was quiet part from those that stuck around to help out. She wanted nothing more than to rush in the house to comfort Andy. But her cousins and Brandon were there calming her down.
She was collecting the full trash bags when Kayla came outside and walked up to her.
"How is she?"
Kayla sighed and started to help Lynn with the trash bags, "She wanted to pack up and leave, if that tells you anything." They both started to walk to the side of the house to throw the trash bags into the trash can.
"It's been on Andy's bucket list to see the Braves and the Bulldawgs play. Now that both are in season, I was actually gonna surprise her with tickets for her birthday. But she went ahead and bought tickets for all of us. Not only that, she got us a private box for both games."
"Wow," Lynn said when Kayla opened the lid and they threw away the bags. They both crossed their arms walking back around the house. When they came back around the rest of the guests started to leave. But Kayla noticed Taylor and Ashley sitting by the pool talking to Shey.
"So apparently Shey and Ashley know each other." Kayla said and Lynn looked at her.
"Yup, Ashley recognized her and asked what she was doing here. Shey told her that she was hired for a photography job by Chris. Then she saw Wendy and she asked what she was doing here. Wendy said it was a family get together. I think she's starting to put two and two together." They walked back up to the deck and Andy came outside holding a sleeping Trevor.
Lynn could tell from Andy's eyes that she had been crying. They went over to her and could hear everyone saying how sorry they were. She waved them off like she always did. She could see Brandon starting to look upset again. But Brittany put a hand on his shoulder and he calmed down. Brittany said that she had to get Trevor to bed. Brandon offered for her to stay over.
She smiled and said she would be right back to help with the kitchen. They all began to clean up again but they also told Andy to just relax. She told them that she had an announcement tomorrow and it's good news. Wendy asked if she was going to take off again. She told her no, it's something that she would have to get to work on soon, but not now.
Shey was still talking to Ashley and Taylor. Ashley was asking Shey how she came into photography, and how was it working for her. Shey explained it was all Andy. Taylor excused herself when she saw Andy on the deck. She wanted to continue their conversation. She gave Ashley a small kiss and walked away.
Andy was talking to Justin when she felt some one pat her back. She turned around and smiled, "Taylor right?" She said shaking her hand again.
"Yup, see you got to dry." She said with a smile.
Andy chuckled and nodded, "Yeah, just gotta take a shower tonight to wash the pool water off." She really took in Taylor. She was good looking, green eyes, black short hair, average build. She couldn't help but notice she kinda had the same style as her as well.
"I hear ya on that. So the real party is on Saturday?"
"Yeah, that's the date my parents got married thirty three years ago. I wanted to give them a party. Haven't seen them in a while so just wanted to do something special for them. Bringing both of their families together."
"How long have you lived here in Georgia?"
"Oh, well my dad's from Georgia, Wendy and I moved around a lot. Dad was in the Navy so, we moved every three years until we settled in Virginia."
"Must have been rough. Always moving, making new friends, new places."
Andy shrugged, "It was alright. We got used to it. But we got to explore new places. Even after we settled I still kinda ventured out of Virginia. My new career kind of takes me all over too. But I just got some vacation time. Trying to make up for what I missed."
Taylor nodded, "You said you ventured out. Whereabouts did you?"
"Well, Vermont for a few months just to get away. There was another place but my memory is still kind of hazy. I hit my head a few years back and I can't really remember that place. Hey Wendy, where did I live that one time like almost ten years ago or so?"
Her sister walked up to them and looked deep in thought, "You mean the first time you left?"
"I guess."
"I think it was Michigan. It was so long ago. But I think that was it." She said and went back to cleaning up.
"Oh really?! My wife's from Michigan. Maybe you might have crossed paths! Hold on let me go grab her!" Taylor left and Andy watched as she went over to Ashley and Shey. Andy looked around for Lynn and found her by the table on the deck. She walked up to her and took her hand.
"I know we had an agreement, but just go along." She whispered and Lynn nodded looking at her with a smile. Andy started to help Lynn when she felt a pat on her back. She turned around and saw Ashley's eyes widened. Lynn turned around and smiled taking Andy's hand in hers.
"Andy this is my wife Ashley. Ashley this is Andy, she's the host of this weekend."
Andy held out her hand and smiled, "Hey, nice to meet you." Ashley smile and slowly shook Andy's hand.
When they let go, Andy let go of Lynn's hand and put her arm around her waist pulling her close, "This is my wife Lynn."
Ethan and Alex stopped what they were doing because they overheard how Andy introduce Lynn. Their eyes went wide and Ethan started to move towards them. Before he could reach them he felt hands on his arms pulling him away "WHAT THE FU-"
He couldn't get what he wanted to say out because someone's hand covered his mouth and he was pulled away until he was inside the house.
When he was inside he saw Wendy and Shey looking at him. Alex rushed in and closed the sliding door.
"What fuck is going on?!" Ethan yelled.
