Everlasting Love(Pt40)
Turning to his side, a soft groan rumbled in his chest. Joe rolled to his back and rubbed his temples against the ache in is head. Cracking his eyelid, he glanced toward the window the see that the sun had yet to set. Another groan passed his lips, turning back to his side. Joe stretched his arm out to the other side of the bed, to find it empty.
‘Ok, I know Sav was in this bed. I wasn’t that drunk.’ Joe told himself, rolling over to search the other side. Instead of finding more of the mattress, Joe landed with a hard thud on the floor.
“Fuck!” he growled between clenched teeth. Laying there a moment waiting for the pounding in his head to ease up some. “How the hell did I get so close to the edge? I need to stop drinking…that….blood wi…” his voice trailed off as he remembered the empty side of the bed. Raising his head, his eyes met the dim light from the window, his mind racing. Joe quickly pushed himself to his knees and looked at his bed. The ache in is head momentarily forgotten when he didn’t see Sav there, where he was supposed to be, panic and fear gripped his insides. Joe quickly crawled across the bed, in a blur he was at the door. Slamming it shut when he realized he was nude.
Spinning around to find his clothes, he didn’t see them draped across the chair or on the floor. Sav’s robe was on the foot of the bed, he raced over and grabbed it, slipping his arms in the holes and flying at the door. Joe threw it open and on the way out, he plowed right into Linsey, who was coming down the hall from her room, knocking her to the floor.
Both of them let out a startled yell. Linsey glanced up just in time to have a full view of Joe’s nude torso before he pulled the robe together in the front, tying it securely.
“Linsey….I’m so sorry…” Joe started reaching down to pull her to her feet. “Are you alright, I didn’t hurt you did I?”
Linsey was blushing deep pink from the view she had gotten. “I…I’m fine, just scared me.” She answered, looking everywhere, but up at him.
“Are you sure, I did run into you pretty hard.” Joe held her shoulder, bending down a bit to try and catch her roving eyes.
Linsey glanced up at him, then down at her feet. “I…I’m fine really, no harm done.” Taking a step back from him. “Where were you going in such a hurry anyway?”
Joe got his bearings back and flew down the hall without answering her question. Linsey watched his blurred form, frowning, then heard Joe call out Rick’s name, she ran downstairs after him. Joe was coming from the studio downstairs when Linsey stopped in the large airy foyer.
Joe ran by her. “Where is….Rick!” he called out again heading for the living room.
Linsey heard the panic in his voice. “Joe, its alright.” following him into the room. She saw Joe’s tall frame relax upon finding Sav asleep on the couch. “When I figured out what got you in such a panic. I was going to tell you he was in here asleep, but you wouldn’t stop long enough.”
Joe ignored her and dropped to his knees, gently running his fingers through Sav’s hair.
Sav’s eyes fluttered open a few minutes later. Waiting for them to focus and found Joe’s green eyes staring right at him. “Hi.” he pushed himself to his elbow. Seconds later Joe dragged him from the couch, crushing him to his chest. “Wha….ow, lighten up Joe…”
Joe loosened his grip a bit. “You scared the hell out of me. I…I thought you left.”
“Why would I do that?” Sav asked, trying to pull away from him.
“You threatened that you were going back an…and after what happened, what I did, last night..I…I thought you left.”
“I didn’t think you would remember that, because you were drunk.”
“I wasn’t that drunk.” Joe replied and finally let him go. “I didn’t mean for that to happen, I’m sor…” Joe grabbed his chin, forcing his head slightly sideways when he noticed the small bandage on his forehead, . “Who did that…did Nick do that?…” anger touching his voice. “..I’ll kill the bastard for hurting you.”
“What…no…!” Sav jerked his head from Joe’s tight grip. “I did this to myself when I fell down the stairs. You should be the one to talk about hurting me.”
Joe’s anger vanished as quickly as it came. Images of forcing Sav the pervious day assaulted his mind. Hanging his head, he starred at the floor. “I’m sorry, …that happened. I wanted you so much, to have what we had before you got sick.”
Sav took a deep breath, ran his fingers through his hair. “Bullshit….”
Joe snapped his head up, watching Sav shift around to pull himself up on the couch. “Yeah, you were drunk…but how stupid do you think I am?”
”I don’t think that.”
“You must…I know what you were doing before you came to me, I saw how Nick was dressed when he picked me up off the floor. I may have lost the bond we shared, but I didn’t lose my sense of smell.”
”Nothing happened between us, it didn’t get far. Nick had more to drink than I did and passed out.”
“Nick passed out?” Sav broke out in laughter, but soon died on his lips. “That is a lame excuse for forcing me Joe!”
Joe cringed from his yell and waited for more.
“I told you it has been awhile since I had been with anyone...male or female…did you listen?...NO!....you just come in my room…you didn’t even hear me beg you to stop did you?”
Joe looked up at him. “Oh...so it’s ok for Nick to force you. How many times? But not me.” His voice dripped with sarcasm and regretted the words as soon as they left his mouth. Joe saw the anger deepen in his eyes, then felt Sav’s fist connect with his jaw. Catching himself with his hand while the other rubbed his jaw, he glanced back at Sav to see him shaking the pain from his hand.
“Are you alright?” Joe asked softly.
“Fine.” Sav hissed.
Joe stood from the floor and sat beside him on the couch, taking his hand, gently rubbing it between his. He brought it up to his mouth, placing soft kisses in several places.
“That didn’t help.” Sav told him.
“I deserved that punch.”
“I should do it again for leaving me empty bottles, making me go down those blasted stairs to get one, because you wouldn’t wake up, being a jerk since I got here and anything else I can’t think of at the moment.”
“I guess I have.” Joe replied softly.
“You guess?” Sav quickly shot back. “Linsey will confirm that.” He told him and looked to where she was still standing.
“Oh no, don’t get me involved in this.” Linsey held up her hands and particularly ran from the room. “But you have been a jerk Joe.” they heard her yell from the kitchen.
“Ok I have been.” Joe admitted.
“Have you heard from Evelyn?” Sav asked after a few minutes of silence.
“She called a few days ago, talked long enough to let me know that we’re not married anymore and to send the rest of her stuff to her new address.”
“You weren’t really married to begin with, not in the normal since anyway.”
”We aren’t normal. We are supposed to be dead. We can’t have a normal divorce, because we can’t leave behind anything that will indicate we are still alive. I still love her though and will make sure she is never in need of anything.”
“You’re not going to even try to get her back?”
“No, Evelyn has made it perfectly clear that I would be wasting my time.”
“What are you going to do, look for another soft, warm womanly body to snuggle up with?”
”Nope.” Joe stood up and faced him. Holding out his hand, he waited for Sav to take it, then pulled him to his feet. Joe slipped his arm around Sav’s waist. “I’m going to concentrate all my time and effort in getting you completely well. No more distractions, no more trying to divide my time between you and Evelyn.” Joe leaned in and kissed him. “Starting tonight you’ll have all of my attention, starting with your bath.”
“How about something to eat first?”
“If that’s what you want first, then that’s what you will get.” Joe led him to the kitchen and snagged a bottle and two glasses. Taking his arm again, the two of them made their way upstairs to the master bathroom.

A few days after Nick left, he was settling himself in the uncomfortable chair the best he could, then taking the glass of blood wine that Gabriel offered him.
“Your unexpected visit has me a little concerned Nick. Is everything alright with Rick?”
”Rick is doing exceptional well, he’s settled in home life with Joe once again. All of his needs are being taken care of.”
“That’s nice to hear.” Gabriel forced a smile. “I have you know, I was against his leaving so soon, the trip alone could have set him back weeks.”
“From what Joseph has told me, Rick didn’t suffer any ill effects from the trip, although he did complain about the stairs in the house. That was taken care of.” Nick lied.
“I see.” Gabriel sipped his drink and sat the glass on the table. “I haven’t received any notice that his medicine is getting low. I didn’t send enough with him to last this long. Rick should return so that we can continue to watch his progress.”
“Rick isn’t in need of your medicine any longer Gabriel.”
”If he doesn’t get it, then everything we’ve worked for over the years would be pointless. Rick could suffer a relapse and end up back where he was in the beginning.”
“So you say.” Nick too sat his glass on the table, never taking his penetrating blue eyes from Gabriel. “I was told otherwise.”
Gabriel tried not to let on that he was getting intimated by Nick’s cold hard gaze. He had heard all the stories and rumors that have been told over the years of his furious protection for the group of men that once rocked the world with their music, their families and especially Rick Savage. Rick himself, told him many stories about Nick, and his overbearing ways. How Nick had killed anyone that dared to threaten or cause harm to any of them. All of that didn’t stop him for wanting to keep Rick in the Underground with him and he did everything in his power to do just that, but in the end it failed.
Gathering his wits Gabriel sat straighter in his chair. “What were you told about his recovery Nick?”
“Why don’t you tell me about it?”
“I’ve told you everything there is to know. Kept you updated monthly on his progress, his setbacks, new treatments that we’ve tried, the ones that failed. You know as much as I do.”
“You always seemed to leave out one very important element in your reports.”
”And that would be?”
Nick leaned forward in his chair, an arrogant smirk on his face. “The desire to keep Rick for yourself.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about. Rick is a dear friend and I have deep respect for him. What you’re suggesting is ridicules.”
“Really….then perhaps Jack’s blood wasn’t telling me the truth, but…” Nick scoffed at the idea of it. “…blood doesn’t lie, now does it Gabriel? It’s amazing…this gift we have, to be able to read what the blood has to say. Don’t you think?”
“I’ve heard the stories about you…” Gabriel started. “…about the ones you’ve killed because they got in your way. If you’ve come here to kill any of us…”
”I didn’t say anything about killing anyone.” Nick cut him off. “Unless you are confessing that you deliberately kept Rick from getting well.”
Gabriel detected the threatening tone in his voice, but knowing that he had the upper hand in this, he was going to tell Nick the truth. “Alright, yes I did want him for myself and by keeping him sick with the medicine, while at the same time giving him the drug that will get him well. By doing that, I could have kept Rick here for a very long time.”
Nick chuckled, glancing down at his hands that were clasped tightly in his lap against his rising anger. “You failed miserably in that area, as I have. You could cut both of Rick’s legs off, keep him locked in cage for years, inflict a mortal disease on him that could cost him his life, but one day…one day, he will over come all of that. Time and time again he has returned to Joe. Your quest to keep him was doomed from the first thought of it….” Nick quickly stood up, startling Gabriel. “…but all of that doesn’t matter, what matters is that you betrayed his trust, his friendship that he freely gave you, kept Rick from the family that he needs….” Nick’s blue eyes mixed with amber. “…and that really pisses me off that you or anyone would do such a thing.”
“You should look at your own history with him Nick. You have done far worse than anyone.”
”Funny you should say that Gabriel. I did give him his freedom and he still insists that I stay in his life.”
”Cut the crap Nick. Why are you really here?”
”You should believe all the stories you heard about me and how I protect those that belong to me.”
“You’re very brave to come here alone and toss around such threats, when you are obliviously outnumbered.”
“Who said I was alone.” Nick told him, inching closer. “Outnumbered, you are sadly mistaken on that.” Nick flew at him.
Gabriel didn’t have time to react to his sudden move and found himself pinned to the cold granite walls. “The Elders will not allow you to get away with killing so many of us.”
”The Elders have no jurisdiction here and will not interfere.” His lips curved up slightly. “I believe that Rachel, Ethan and….” He glanced away then back at Gabriel. “ah yes…Vas have accompanied me. You seemed to have forgotten the connection that Rick has with them. They were quite angry to learn of your deception to keep him here.”
Gabriel swung his fist up to slam into the side of Nick’s head, seconds later he crumpled to the floor, his neck twisted at a grotesque angle.
Nick stepped back several feet, brushing the imaginary dirt from the sleeves of his black jacket and tugged at the bottom. Glancing at the still form on the floor, he spun on his heels and calmly left the room.
