Chapter 38
After a day of rest, Gerry and Ann flew back to New York. Ann made sure to call when they were on their way back to the apartment as she did not want to walk in on Lynn and Brendan going at it on the couch. Gerry laughed when she explained all of this, but was glad because he didn’t really want to see that either.
When Ann and Gerry walked in the door, there were lots of “welcome back” hugs. Lynn had even gone to the trouble of cooking dinner. Gerry looked at the pasta Lynn served with mild disgust. “Oh grow a pair,” Lynn said with a slap to his back. “It’s good, I promise.”
“What is it?” he asked.
“Only the greatest pasta for those on a budget,” Lynn replied. “Now I realize that I are no longer on the tiny budget that I was when I came up with this, but it is soo good that I wanted to have some.”
“It smells funny.”
“Just try a bite,” Ann said in a motherly voice. “I will agree that it smells a little strange, but it’s just the beans. Lynn and I used to eat it all the time.”
“Seriously dude,” Brendan chimed in, “it is horribly addictive.”
Everyone watched as Gerry put his fork to his mouth. The reaction was almost instant. It was obvious Gerry loved it. By the end of the evening Brendan and Gerry left the girls on the as the rehashed old times. That always happened after they finished two bottles of wine.
Long after the boys went to bed, Ann told Lynn all about what happened in Toronto. Lynn was very surprised at some of the activities but ended the night by congratulating Ann on growing balls and having sex in a public place just before tripping over the rug in the hall and slamming into her bedroom door. Needless to say, Brenda was not too pleased when he had to carry Lynn to bed.

Gerry woke up early the next morning. After an hour or so of reading fan mail and checking email, he noticed that Brendan was up.
“Morning,” Brendan called.
“Morning,” Gerry replied.
“So, how did shooting go?”
“Good, really good. You and Lynn do anything fun while Ann was gone?”
“The usual,” Brendan said with a smirk.
“You didn’t?”
“Not in the bed, just on the floor.”
“Good Lord! Why?”
“We ran out of condoms, so Lynn ran into you guys’ room to get one and I got a little impatient.”
“Well,” Gerry said with a smile, “I hope Ann never finds out.”
“I second that.”
“Oh, before I forget, what was that big crash last night?”
“That was Lynn running into our door.”
“I was hoping it wasn’t Ann.”
“Speaking of the girls, when should we expect them up?”
“Give me about forty five minuets in the kitchen and by the time I am done, they’ll be up.”
“What?”
“Don’t laugh at me, but when I wasn’t on set, I got addicted to watching The Food Network.”
“Don’t worry. When Lynn isn’t home, that is the first channel I go to.”
“Well anyway, I was watching Paula Dean one day I she made this French toast casserole that looked really easy. So I thought I would try it.”
“I think I might have seen that one. Would you like any help?”
“Sure.” While they cooked, Gerry and Brenda talked about their upcoming jobs and other work related things. At one point Gerry told Brendan that he and Ann were point to move back to his apartment next door.
“It isn’t me you have to worry about, it’s Lynn,” Brendan said in response to Gerry's “need of approval look”.
“Do you think she is going to be upset?”
“Well now that you mention it, no I don’t think she will. It isn’t like you two are moving to another country.”
“True. Well it looks like breakfast is done. Should we go wake the girls up?”
“I guess so. I thought you said the smell would wake them.”
“I thought so.”
Neither Ann nor Lynn wanted to get up, but after Gerry and Brendan left to doors to the bedrooms open, they couldn’t take much more. Both girls walked into the living room to see the table set and ready for breakfast.
“You two are so sweet,” Ann said with a yawn.
As they ate, the girls couldn’t stop talking about how good the food was. “Brendan,” Lynn said, “I didn’t know you could cook.”
“Well now you know,” he said with a smirk.
“Are you sure you're not gay?” Ann asked with a smile.
“He better not be,” Lynn replied as she smacked Ann on the arm.
After breakfast was over, Ann pulled Lynn aside. “I need to tell you something.”
“This is when I get concerned,” Lynn said as she followed Ann into the hall. “Nothing you say that comes after that statement can be good.”
“Well I don’t really know how to put this and I don’t want you to get upset.”
“Just spit it out already.”
“Gerry asked me to move in with him.” Ann said it so fast that Lynn wasn’t sure what she had said.
Lynn burst out laughing. Ann looked like Lynn was going to punch her after she told her the news. Lynn had never seen anything so funny. “It’s okay sweetie,” she said still laughing. “How could you think I would get mad?”
Ann looked confused when Lynn pulled her into a hug. “But I just thought…”
“It isn’t lie you are moving that far away. Besides, you can't get rid of me that easily.”
“So we have to completely redecorate.”
“You know I don’t think I have ever been over there.”
“Not much to it,” Gerry interjected as he strode up behind Ann. “A bed and a chair that we both fit on is really all I need.”
“Yes well, I need more closet space, a working kitchen and a decent looking bathroom,” Ann said.
“I didn’t know you were doing a complete overhaul?”
“I told you a few days ago. Remember, the night before we went to the symphony.”
“Nope. I had my mind on other more necked things since then,” Gerry replied as he began to kiss her neck.
“Hello?” Lynn said in disgust. “I’m still here!”
“Gerry stop it,” Ann said nudging him away. “I can't concentrate when you do that.”
“Do you think we should get a decorator?”
“Absolutely not. I have hung out with enough gay men to know how to put a room together.”
“I still think we should talk to someone. I’m not saying you couldn’t pick the right colors or fabrics an other shit like that, but I think it would be easier to hire someone who knows who to hire to do the construction.”
“Listen to him Ann,” Lynn said. “You remember how hard it was to redo that bathroom without any help.”
“Does she remember?” Brendan said as both he and Gerry gave puzzled looks to Lynn. “We were the ones who did all the work.”
“Yeah,” Gerry added. “All you guys did was pick out the tile and tell us what to do.”
“Well you our credit,” Ann said, “picking out everything that went in there was a multi day process. But I do see your point.”
“I’ll call Lisa and have her look for someone,” Gerry said as he walked back to the living room.
“Well you guys,” Brendan said as he began to wash up from breakfast, “it’s Sunday afternoon. What do you want to do?”
“Let’s just watch movies,” Ann said as she curled up next to Gerry on the couch. “And this time we are watching ‘Braveheart.’”
“But why?” Lynn whined.
“Because last time you wouldn’t let us watch it,” Brendan said.
“Fine,” Gerry stated with contempt. “Lynn and I get to choose a movie and you two have to watch it.”
“Though that prospect scared me,” Ann said, “I suppose it is only fair.”
“Ann,” Brendan said, “why don’t you come help me get the popcorn and stuff ready so the two of them have time to conspire against us? Hopefully they wont make us watch anything too bad.”
“Rest assured,” Lynn said with an evil like smirk, “we are going to make you suffer as much as you made us.”
As Ann and Brendan were getting everything ready, Lynn let out a big laugh. All Ann could do was pray that she didn’t have to watch “Pretty Woman” or something like that.
As they all settled in to watch “Braveheart” it was obvious to both Lynn and Gerry that Ann and Brendan were not going to tolerate talking. At one point Gerry asked if Ann had seen the movie enough times when he noticed her mouthing the words. In unison, Ann and Brendan said in rather harsh tones, “Shut up Gerry.” Lynn laughed a bit.
Toward the end of the movie, Ann looked up at Gerry and noticed a tear or two rolling down his cheek. In all fairness to Gerry it was the part when William Wallace sees the ghost of his dead wife and screams “Freedom!” Ann decided not the mention this.
When the move was over, everyone took a bathroom break. Ann was the last to go. When she got back she saw Brendan’s face and knew instantly what movie they were about to watch. “Are you serious Lynn? Do we really have to watch ‘Bridges of Madison County?’?”
“Yes,” Lynn said with a triumphant smile. “Now sit down and shut up.”
As the movie started Ann looked up at Gerry with a piteous look and mouthed “Why?”
“To be completely honest,” Gerry whispered, “I’m not real excited about watching this either. It just made Lynn so happy when I suggested it.”
“I know, sweetheart,” Ann whispered back kissing him on the cheek, “I know.”
As soon as the movie was over Lynn looked over and Brendan. He was asleep. She looked at Ann and Gerry, both asleep. She smiled to herself and said in a loud voice, “So did you all enjoy the movie?”
“What?” Gerry said as he and everyone else jerked out of their sleep. “Oh yeah the movie. It was great.”
“Absolutely wonderful,” Ann said with a yawn.
“Well I am not gonna lie,” Brendan said, “I fell asleep half way into it.”
“I knew it,” Lynn said as she attacked him with tickles and love taps around the face. I knew you couldn’t handle it.”
The rest of the evening was spent watching movies that everyone agreed on; or rather movies the boys said they would watch because the girls wanted to see them.
After everyone had gone to bed, Ann lay next the Gerry, listening to his breathing and couldn’t believe she was really going to move in with him. True, they lived together now, but the fact that they would have the same address and a home that they decorated together was a big deal to her.

The next morning Gerry called Lisa to ask her to get a few interior decorators names and numbers. When he got off the phone, he walked back the bedroom and found Ann looking at catalogues. “Just talked to Lisa,” he said handing a cup of tea to Ann. “She is going to set up a few meeting with decorators tomorrow and Wednesday. All I have to do is fax her the dimensions of the apartment and a general idea of what we want so she can't get them to the people.”
“She better pick good ones cause I don’t want to have to listen to some old lady tell what looks good even though it would only look good if it were the fifties.”
“I told her that. She said she would pick out three or four decorators and then we just pick the one we want.”
“Like those decorating shows?”
“Um, yeah, like those decorating shows. But there is something else that she told me. I have a meeting with Andrew Lloyd Webber this afternoon.”
“Really? I wonder why.”
“I don’t know and she said his assistant would tell her.”
“Maybe he wants you to bin in Phantom on Broadway.”
“I don’t think he would do that.”
“But it would be cool, at least for me and hundreds and thousands of your other fans.”
“Good point.”
