Gal dropped by the studio one day to hang out with Taylor and Tori. Gal could sing decently enough, but she preferred not to unless the people who sang for a living explicitly asked her to do so. Gal and Taylor sat in chairs while Tori sat on the piano bench. Taylor had her guitar in her lap and started tuning it from the top string down.
“Give me an E,” she said to Tori.
Tori spoke hesitantly, “My voice doesn’t go that low.”
“I meant on the piano.”
“Oh right, sorry.”
Each time Tori played the E2 note on the piano, the string on Taylor’s guitar got a little bit closer to the correct note. Once she got it, they repeated the process for the A string.
“Alright,” Taylor smiled at Tori, “I think you can sing the rest of these.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
Tori sang the remaining four notes. Gal quietly watched the whole thing. She could almost describe it as mesmerizing the way Tori’s voice and Taylor’s guitar worked together. Gal gave Tori and Taylor a golf clap when they finished tuning the last string, eliciting a flattered smirk from each of them.
“You must be very easily impressed,” Tori remarked.
“Well, yeah,” Taylor retorted. “Didn’t you see how amazed she was by ice cream?”
Gal laughed at that one. Taylor and Tori couldn’t help but chuckle with her. Ultimately, they all composed themselves (pun maybe intended) and Tori spoke to Taylor.
“What did you want to play this time?”
Taylor thought for a moment, then had what she clearly considered to be a great idea.
“I’d been working on an acoustic version of Goin’ Down.”
Goin’ Down is a song about a young woman confessing to a priest what she did to her cheating boyfriend. Knowing that, Gal had a sudden realization and apologetically excused herself. She rushed over to Madalina’s office and asked where Captain was. Madalina said he was probably still in Raven’s room. Gal thanked her and took the elevator up to Raven’s room. Having caught her breath in the elevator, she quickly walked over to Raven’s room and knocked on the door. Raven answered the door with wet hair, a towel draped over her shoulder, and absolutely nothing else on.
“Is Captain in there?” asked Gal.
“Yeah, he is.”
Captain waved at Gal from the foot of Raven’s bed, where he was putting on clean sheets. Gal asked if Raven could wait by the window for a moment as she needed to talk to Captain about something; Raven agreed. Captain then walked over to the door, and Gal addressed him at a low volume.
“Sir,” she began, “remember that man with the account?”
“Unfortunately, yes,” Captain spoke at the same low volume despite not being entirely sure why she was talking like that. “What about him?”
“I have a great idea for what we could do.”
Captain was immediately intrigued, “Go ahead.”
“We set up a confession booth and I talk to him that way.”
Captain’s bottom lip stuck out as he considered her idea. It didn’t take more than a few seconds before he started nodding his head.
“That is a pretty great idea. Did you get it from Tori?”
“Taylor, actually.”
Captain chuckled, “She was my second guess. In any case, I’ll set something up with Gordon and we’ll go from there.”
Gal hugged Captain, “Thank you, sir.”
“Thank you for the great idea. Now, if you don’t mind...”
He tilted his head back towards Raven.
“Of course.”
Gal gave Captain a courteous nod before heading off. Raven walked back up to Captain and placed her hand on his upper left arm.
“You know I’m not done with you yet.”
Captain smiled at her and closed the door, “Neither am I.”
