"So I said, 'Well if you didn't want me to answer the question then why the did you ask it?'" Kelly finished her explanation of how she ended up in detention for the second half of the day as they walked to the parking lot.
"Um, Baby," Carrie laughed softly. "Usually when a teacher says 'Do you think you could do a better job?' it's a rhetorical question."
"Well, I think I could. I also happen to think a monkey could do a better job."
"That doesn't mean you had to say that outloud...especially the monkey part," she giggled.
Kelly laughed, "Yea, you're probably right. My mom's gonna be so pissed."
"See, I wish I could laugh when I say my mom's gonna be pissed."
Kelly stopped in her tracks, causing Carrie to have to back pedal a couple steps.
"Why'd you stop?"
"Your dad's here," Kelly nodded to the familiar car where Stephen sat behind the wheel.
"What do you think he wants?"
"Probably to talk. You should go."
"But I'm supposed to bring you to work," Carrie reminded.
"Lyndsey can bring me--her car's still here," Kelly motioned to the car in the corner of the parking lot.
"Are you sure?"
"If you want to talk to him, then yes, I'm sure."
"Ok," Carrie nodded, giving her a quick hug. "I'll see you later this afternoon."
"Good luck," Kelly smiled.
+++++++
"You had a good day today?" Stephen asked as they drove around town.
"Yea, Kelly got detention today which was pretty funny. She seriously needs to learn to think before she speaks sometimes," Carrie laughed softly.
"Yea, I can see where she has a problem with too much honesty sometimes," he smiled. "So, um, look, Care Bear, I wanted to apologize."
"It's ok, Dad. From the looks of it, you didn't want Mom at the game, either."
"Well, not just that...I wanted to apologize for the way I acted last week. I should've never tried to forbid you from seeing Kelly. She's a great kid, and I think she's really good for you."
Carrie nodded, her voice softening," Then why'd you do it?"
"Parents...we do stupid things sometimes. We get caught up in the whole parent aspect of it and forget what it's like to be a kid."
"I'm not a kid."
"I know," he nodded. "And I know you may not believe it, but your mom just wants what's best for you."
"Dad, she has her own personal agenda against Kelly, you know that."
"You know how she gets once something's set in her mind...there's no changing her after that."
"I just wish you would've stood up for me," Carrie looked down at her hands that were folded neatly in her lap.
"Me too," he agreed. "I'm sorry I hurt you, Care Bear, and I'm even sorrier that I broke your trust."
"I miss you, Dad," she sniffed.
"I miss you too," he reached over, squeezing her shoulder affectionately. "I wish you'd come home."
"I don't know..."
"It is your home, Care Bear, and I have to admit it's pretty lonely there without you."
"What about Mom?"
"I'm going to have a talk with her," Stephen assured. "Things will change."
"Promise?"
"I promise," he replied.

"Hey," Kelly smiled, looking up from where she sat on her bed with her keyboard on her lap as Carrie walked in. "I thought I was gonna have to send out a search party for a second there."
"Sorry," Carrie replied. "My dad took me out for dinner."
"Oh, no, that's fine. I'm glad the talk went well," she nodded, playing a couple chords as Carrie sat beside her.
"I need to talk to you about something."
"Ok, what's up?" she looked up at her.
"How would you feel about me going back home?"
Kelly studied her face carefully, "Is that what you want?"
"My dad said things are gonna change...plus I hate the fact that he's been stuck in the house by himself with Mom."
"Is that a yes?"
"Yea," Carrie nodded.
"Then I'm happy for you," she smiled. "A little heartbroken that I'm losing you, but happy that you get to go back home. I don't know what I'd do if I felt like I couldn't go home."
"Yea, I think the thing that sucks the most is having to leave you, though."
"There's always the weekends," Kelly assured. "So when am I losing you?"
"Tomorrow."
"So I get one more night with you all to myself?"
Carrie laughed softly, "There's always the weekends, like you said."
"Yea, but that's different."
"Yea," she agreed.
"So what do you want to do?"
"Listen to you play?" she looked at her hopefully.
"Alright," Kelly nodded with a soft laugh. "I still don't understand why you get such a kick out of it, though."
"That's because you're so clueless," Carrie teased, scooting closer, resting her head on the shorter girl's shoulder as she began to play a soft melody on the keyboard.

Kelly found herself wide awake as she and Carrie lay, facing each other. Carrie had fallen asleep about an hour before and had an arm draped around the shorter girl. Kelly slowly brought a hand up, brushing Carrie's bangs out of her eyes. She smiled as the other girl wrinkled her nose cutely. Her fingers shakily grazed across her jawline. She felt her heart racing nervously as she drew her fingers along her cheek, reveling in the softeness of it. She bit her bottom lip as she traced down her neck.
There was something about the Oklahoma native's neck that always seemed to call the Texan's attention to it lately. Kelly swallowed hard, resisting the urge to lean forward and kiss her there, afraid to wake the other girl and have it seem like she was taking advantage of her, but she was also too afraid to ask when they were both awake and have Carrie think she were crazy. Her fingers brushed along the taller girl's collarbone as Carrie tightened her grip around her.
"Baby..."
Kelly looked up to find the other blond looking back at her. She wasn't sure how long she had been watching her, "I woke you?"
Carrie nodded, "Is everything ok?"
"Yea, I just couldn't sleep, and you...I couldn't help it," she looked at her sheepishly.
"It's ok," Carrie smiled. "Anything you want to talk about?"
"I believe I already told you I liked the way you feel, so nothing new there," Kelly was thankful for the dark as she felt her cheeks burn.
"So just curiosity?"
"Yea, kinda."
"Kinda?"
"I guess I'm still kinda worried about the where to put my hands thing."
"Ah...so you figure the more you touched me, the more comfortable you'd be with it."
Kelly nodded.
"You can continue if you want."
"You don't mind?"
Carrie shook her head, "Just give me your hands first."
Kelly offered both her hands to her, and Carrie held them in her own, bringing them to her lips, blowing warm air against them.
"They were freezing," Carrie explained with a light laugh, letting her go.
Kelly gave her a nervous smile.
"It's ok," she assured.
Kelly took a deep breath as she reached out again, slowly tracing along Carrie's collar bone. Carrie lay as perfectly still as she could, watching the Texan's eyes follow her shaking fingers. She brushed them over her shoulder before slowly smoothing her whole hand down her arm. She met Carrie's hand, briefly linking their fingers together, making them both smile.
She moved to her hip, moving up her side over her tanktop and going back down. Her fingers danced along her stomach, feeling Carrie tremble slightly with each breath she took. They moved down, dancing along her waistband, but she immediately pulled her hand back at the feeling of skin, "Sorry."
Carrie reached out, holding onto her hand tightly, bringing it back. She turned onto her back, lifting her tank top several inches, revealing her stomach. Kelly's eyes were wide as she stared at her openly. Carrie held her hand against her stomach, holding her there to make sure she wouldn't pull away.
"It's ok," she said gently.
Kelly nodded, biting her bottom lip nervously again. She felt Carrie let her go, and she continued to stare where her hand was pressed against the other girl's stomach. The skin was so soft. She carefully moved her hand, her fingertips just barely grazing her. It was smooth, too.
She allowed her fingers to press a little harder as they moved up her stomach, tracing along where her tanktop was bunched up before moving back down. She could feel the muscles twitching beneath her fingers as Carrie continued to lay as still as she could. Her hand paused in the middle of her stomach, her thumb moving back and forth over it as she looked back up to meet Carrie's eyes. She could see her struggling with herself over something
"Come here," Carrie whispered.
Kelly leaned to her, starting to pull her hand away again, but Carrie placed her own hand over it, gently keeping it there.
"It's ok."
Kelly subconciously licked her lips at the feeling Carrie cradling her face.
"Are you ok?" she asked softly.
Kelly nodded.
Carrie reached up, pressing their lips together softly, one hand on the Texan's cheek, the other over her hand on her stomach. She kissed her slowly, laying back down and taking her with her. She removed her hand from on top of Kelly's, now holding her face with both hands, drawing her closer as she deepened the kiss. Carrie brushed her tongue against her bottom lip, feeling Kelly's fingers scratch down her stomach softly. She fought with herself to keep her hands on the other girl's face as she felt her open her mouth wider. Kelly's hand burned against her skin as it slowly smoothed over her stomach.
Carrie heard her quiet moan as she pressed their tongues together, Kelly's hand now gripping her bare side. She felt Kelly's tongue moving against hers, and her blood rushed south. She pulled back.
Kelly looked down at her, breathless, "What did I do?"
"Nothing, I just..." Carrie looked at her with a mixture of nerves and fear.
"What's wrong?" Kelly asked, concerned. "I didn't hurt you or anything, did I?"
"No, you were...you were great..."
"Then what's wrong?"
"Would you believe it if I said you were too great?"
Kelly looked at her, confused.
"Maybe we're going too fast," Carrie frowned.
"Why do you say that?"
"I don't know. I just want to make sure you're comfortable."
"I am comfortable."
"There's nothing that we've skipped or done that maybe you'd like to go back to, practice wise?"
"Huh? No...well, there is one thing..."
"Ok, good, let's hear it."
"Um, well, all the stuff we've done, it's been like kissing, but I mean there's different types of kissing, right?"
"Yea, of course," Carrie nodded. "Like friendly kisses, pecks, french kisses--which you've already mastered, so we can move on--hello kisses, goodbye kisses--"
"Do they all have to be on the lips?"
"No, not at all. They can be on your forehead, your cheek, your nose, your eyelids--"
"Your neck?"
Carrie fought back the moan that she felt rising in the back of her throat at the sound of the Texan's thick drawl saying those words, "Y-yea."
"Can we practice that?"
"Um, sure, just maybe, not now."
"You're tired?"
"Yea," she gave a short laugh.
"So another time?"
"Another time," Carrie assured. "It's just tonight, I'm really tired and a little emotional cause I'm gonna miss hanging out with you every night," she explained more to herself than to Kelly.
"You're gonna miss me," Kelly teased.
"Yea, yea," she rolled her eyes, relaxing as the talk turned to something other than kissing. "Come here, crazy."
Kelly smiled as she laid down, snuggling into her.
Carrie wrapped her arms around her, holding her close.
"So you promise everything's ok?"
"I promise," Carrie placed a cautious kiss on her forehead, pleased that she was able to do so without her hormones running rampade. "I'm just tired."
