Life Goes On(Pt42)
The night was crisp and clear, the sky full of twinkling stars overhead. The moon a sliver of light making its way slowly across to the west. The streets of the small town were virtually empty this time of night. Dark shop windows dotted the main road, the street lamps reflecting in the glass panes. A few cars ambled down the road, their passengers on the way home from work or last minute trips to the grocer. A light breeze blew down the valley, carrying with it the sweet smells of the nearby forest.
The three men land smoothly half a block from the club, in a dark alleyway, their hair wind blown from the flight.
"Not bad Phil." Joe chuckled. "I don’t think you need any more lessons in flying." He watched Phil smile and straightened his attire. He turned to see Sav doing the same. "It wouldn’t matter how you dressed baby. You would still look good enough eat."
"Isn’t that what you do anyway Joe?" Phil snickered.
"In more ways than one." Joe growled and pulled Sav hard against his chest. Then spent the next few seconds chasing his mouth. Phil groaned and grabbed Sav’s arm, dragging him away from Joe.
"Enough already. Don’t you guys ever get enough of each other?"
"No." Joe and Sav said in unison.
"So I noticed." Phil huffed and pushed Sav down the alley ahead of him. Joe followed close behind...too close. Phil smacked his arm as Joe reached for Sav again. "Cut it out will ya."
"Ok...sorry can’t help it." Joe smiled.
"That ‘can’t help it’ line, is your may stay for the last 30 years Joe."
"Mine too." Sav piped in.
Phil rolled his eyes and checked his clothes again as they walked towards the club, he unbuttoned the top two buttons of his shirt and adjusted the collar. He smiled to himself as his two ‘daddies’ turned around.
"So how do I look?" Phil had a nervous smile on his lips.
Joe and Sav smiled their approval at him. "Smashing!" Joe adjusted the back of Phil’s collar.
"Your sure?"
Sav nodded. "Yes...you look great."
Phil beamed under their approval. He wanted to look good on his first real ‘public’ outing since he crossed over. Other times it was just with a few ‘friends’ of Joe and Sav’s that they had passed on the streets. Phil had settled on the simple but elegant black suit with the open white shirt. Ladies loved that look and Phil intended to give the ladies something tonight.
"I wish I could see myself." Phil said.
"Trust us, you look great." Sav patted him on the shoulder.
Joe and Sav looked at each other, Phil was nervous tonight, the party animal himself, but this was a big deal for him. They remembered their own first nights out amongst mortals and Phil wanted to make an impression on them that he could handle his new life. The valuable lesson tonight was for Phil to work on how to pick up woman or men if the need should arise for him to do so, in order to quench the constant hungry for blood.
Joe opened the door of the club for them and they went inside. The noise and the smells wafted from every direction. Alcohol, sweat, the pungent smell of blood all mixed together. And something else was in the air.
"The place is packed tonight, guys." Sav smiled. "Phil, you should have no problem working on that seduction lesson.
"This is a lesson in seducing them...nothing more." Joe chimed in.
"But what if I find one that I really like and want to take home?"
Sav and Joe looked at each other then to Phil. "Maybe." They both said to him with a knowing smile.
Phil returned a smile of his own. His senses keen to the fresh blood packed in the club, distinguishing mortal from vampire. The sweet aroma of fresh blood begging for him to taste...mortals, their blood will tempt him as his heightened sensory organs detected the warmth of it. Phil was ready, but something pulled at his senses, something that he had never smelled before and it puzzled him.
"What’s that smell...I mean, I can distinguish everything else but not that?" his eyes roved across the patrons, trying to pinpoint the smell.
"Decay." Sav finally said a touch of sadness in his voice. "Someone here tonight is dying. For them it wont be long, that’s why the smell is so strong." Sav spotted the lone woman sitting at the bar, slowly sipping her drink. Not only could he smell the decay of her body, but the sadness that draped over her like a veil. His view was suddenly blocked.
"Oh Sav...baby." A familiar face comes into focus.
"Tiny!" Sav crocked out when Tiny crushed him to his chest.
"How ya been?"
"Can’t complain."
"Good." Tiny turned his attention to Joe. "Ah sweet heaven...it’s been a long time Joseph." Tiny gave Joe a bear hug.
"Tiny...yo...you’re smothering me." Joe laughed as Tiny released him.
Tiny noticed Phil and pulled him into his arms. "I hear congrats are in order." He crushed Phil to his chest. "Welcome to the Community." Phil’s smashed face looked at Sav and Joe in helplessness; he couldn’t breath.
"Uh, Tiny, I think you’re crushing Phil." Sav said laughing.
"Huh? Oh!...sorry Phil." Tiny released him. Phil straightened up and ran back over to Joe and Sav.
"It’s alright Tiny and thanks. I’ve been wanting to do this for a long time."
Tiny nodded. "Yeah, I remember when I first crossed over." Tiny shook his head. "It seems like yesterday sometimes, hard to believe it’s been 486 years."
"Wow! That long ago." Phil exclaimed.
"Uh huh, did a lot of living, seen a lot, can’t complain." Tiny shrugged and smiled at Sav. "Except maybe about one thing." he leered at Sav.
Joe burst out laughing. "I’ll say one thing for you Tiny, you are consistent."
Tiny smiled sheepishly. "You’re a lucky bloke Joe, but you can’t knock a guy for trying. Who knows, one day Sav may take me up on my offer."
Sav smiled at Tiny and was suddenly yanked to his hard muscled chest.
Before Sav realized what was happening, Tiny locked his mouth over his and was probing his tongue on Sav’s lips for access. Sav gave into him for just a moment. Tiny took it a step further and dove his fingers in the hair he had long to run his them through.
Joe’s mouth dropped open at Tiny’s bold move. Clearing his throat, Joe smacked him on his arm to try and get his attention. Tiny pulled away and sat Sav away from him, his golden eyes danced with desire.
"Been wanting to do that for a long time." Tiny said a little out of breath.
Sav darted his eyes to Joe, then back to Tiny. "Yes...well...um...ok, no harm done." Sav reached out blindly to grab at Joe’s shirt, keeping his eyes on Tiny. "It...it was great to see you again Tiny."
Joe stumbled against him and reached out for Phil. Tiny smiled brightly and winked at Sav before they all turned to enter the interior room of the club. Joe and Phil waved bye to Tiny, but Joe knew that he would be staying at the club and would meet up them with later in the night.
"Later guys." Tiny watched as the three men disappeared into the inviting darkness of the club.
Joe whispered in Sav’s ear. "You were blushing by what Tiny did."
Sav turned to him and scoffed. "I was not."
"Yes you did....I saw it."
"Don’t be absurd Joe...I wasn’t blushing."
"It looked like to me you did." Phil put in.
"See, even Phil noticed."
Sav slid onto a bar stool and motioned for the bartender, held up his fingers for three drinks.
"You must have liked it."
Sav sipped his drink, then faced Joe. "I’m not going to get in an argument over this Joe. It’s Phil’s night remember, let’s concentrate on him ok. Leave it for later."
"Fine." Joe huffed, grabbed his drink and stalked away from them.
"I don’t think Joe was thrilled about what Tiny did." Phil said.
"He’ll get over it and I’m not going to worry about it." Sav finished his drink and ordered another. "So how you doing? Any problems with your....alter ego?"
"Um...not really. Just other parts."
"See anyone you like?" Sav asked taking a sip of his blood wine.
"Yeah all of them!" Phil said and scanned the room again. His eyes landed on the woman at the end of the bar.
Leaning closer so that he could whisper in his ear, Sav kept his eyes trained on the beautiful woman at the end of the bar. "If you choose her, her blood while taste a little different than it does for health people."
"Because of her illness?" "Yes. Most vampires, even ones that are very old can't stomach the taste."
Phil glanced at him out of the corner of his eye. "I'm not going to let that stop me. Not yet anyway, not until I have a taste for myself." Phil took his drink and moved the barstool beside her.
"Hi." Phil smiled when she looked at him. It quickly faded when his senses picked up that smell of decay again. It was coming from the woman sitting beside him. When she looked up at Phil he was struck by her beauty and the deep green of her eyes and full lips. Her chestnut colored hair framed the soft features of her face.
"Hi." She answered in return.
Phil found his voice after a long pause. "Can I buy you a drink?"
"No thank you, I probably won’t even finish this one."
"Names Phil."
"I’m sorry...Phil, but I would really like the be left alone."
"You shouldn’t be alone tonight. Let me buy you a drink."
She looked at him again and saw the sincerity in his eyes and something else that she couldn’t place. "Ok. Michelle."
"Nice to meet you Michelle, lovely name. Would you like to dance?"
"Ok." She answered and slipped her hand into Phil’s. He led them out on the dance floor and slipped his arm around her waist. They began to slowly move to the music.
"You’re very beautiful Michelle."
"Than...thank you." She glanced up at his eyes, her heart pounded in her chest from his look and his voice whenever he asked her a question.
What was it that pulled at her to move closer to him? The feel of his body against hers, to lean into his soft touch, as he caressed her cheek. His soft sensual voice, as he continued to talk to her.
Phil knew he had her and lowered his head to brush her lips. Her soft intake of breath urged him on. He pressed his lips to hers briefly before he pulled away.
"No...I don’t think you should be alone." Phil whispered.
***
Sav watched him from where he was still sitting at the bar. "Well that didn’t take long." He mumbled to himself. Phil led her out of the room down a dark hallway. Minutes later he felt Phil’s increasing desire and stirred his own.
"I’m sorry." Joe voice pulled him back into focus.
"For what?" Sav looked at him.
"For the way I acted earlier. I guess that jealousy streak reared again."
"Don’t worry about it Joe." Sav tilted his glass to his lips and looked over the rim at him, then moved to stare past Joe. "Phil has already taken his first one for the night."
"That was fast."
"Hum....yes it was. He’s quick...has been since he came across."
Joe noticed that he wasn’t looking at him but at something behind him. 'Maybe he’s watching for Phil to come out of the back.'
"Is he coming back?"
Sav shook his head and followed the figure heading for the door. Joe finally followed his line of vision and saw whom Sav was staring at. A dark haired young man stood at the door, his gaze locked on Sav. Joe placed his finger on Sav’s chin to turn his head back to look at him.
"So you think it’ll be ok to just leave him back there with her?"
"Yes." Sav told him and turned to look at the guy again.
His actions irritated Joe, he grabbed his chin and had to practically force Sav to look away. Sav jerked away from him and immediately stared at the guy again. Joe repeated what he did before.
Sav snatched his hand away. "Will you stop?"
"Want to dance?" Joe asked.
"No I..." his gaze once again returned the guy who jerked his head toward the door and left. "Don’t want to dance....now."
"Where are you going?" Joe asked as Sav slid from his stool.
"I’ll be back in a few minutes."
Joe’s irritation turned to anger. He knew where Sav was going. To tangle somewhere with the vampire that had been staring at him. "You’re a fucking whore Sav."
Sav spun on his heels and got right in Joe’s face. "I’ll ignore that remark. You don’t fucking own me Joe!" he snapped. "This is who I am, so get over it." With that Sav made his way through the crowd and out the door.
Joe gulped down the rest of his drink and rubbed his hand over his face. "And I though this was Phil’s night...yeah right."
